Deleted window file- now nothing works

Q: Deleted window file- now nothing works

I recently deleted the contents of C:\Window\winsxs\pending.xml (don't ask)and now find that not only can I not access the internet but access to control panel and so many other links like Network, Computer, etc are no longer possible. I keep getting 'This application has failed to start because urlmon.dll was not found....problem'.
My search online lists a number of remedies but the main recommendation involves downloading urlmon but this requires internet.
At the moment I can only access word and excel documents.
Please help

Preferred Solution: Deleted window file- now nothing works

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Deleted window file- now nothing works

Download it on another machine and then transfer it to your troubled one. Another idea is run sfc /scannow from safemode.

Your help with this is *tremendously* appreciated, as I'm dead in the water (stuck on the other side of the world) w/an essentially non-functional laptop trying to work done for a client....

Have run AVG several times with a clean run, as well as Avast!, VundoFix and ATF Cleaner. However, whenever I go to open up a Firefox browser, go to a new url, click on a link, IE launches a pop-up window. Occasionally, it will keep spawning windows.

All I can do is try to kill the process as soon as I see it start up. Strange thing is, however, just a split second before the ie process starts up, I will get the Avast! script blocker (like it's going to kill something) and then it disappears. That's when the IE pop-up window (urging me to buy something). It may be noted that I had "Webbuyer.exe" in my Programs file earlier which was cleared out by AVG, but I keep getting the IE pop-ups anyway.

Hello All,
I've never seen this happen before.
I have a main directory with 80 files in it. I created 8 sub-directories under the main directory and put 10 files in each one. I then went back to the main directory and deleted the 80 files that are there. The files I deleted from the main directory were also deleted from the sub-directories! I had to restore everything from the recycle bin! Why did this happen?

Hi...I have an acer laptop. I was having a problem with my cd rom not working so I went to the microsoft windows site and followed the regedit steps to delete the upperfilters. I think I deleted too many because now my mouse and my keyboard is not working at all. I get a small box that pops up everything I turn my pc on that is labeled

An invalid argument was encountered
I can't find the disc that came with the computer but it wouldn't really matter because the cd rom doesn't work. I pressed F8 while it was turning on and I selected that restore to last known working or whatever and that did nothing. I pressed F8 again and selected reboot. That did nothing as well. I really do not want my whole computer because my most important thing on my computer is all of my pictures. If I loose them I don't have a copy any where else. (I know stupid mistake!) Please help!! Thank you!

A:deleted upperfilters now nothing works!

if i understand this correctly u were in the registry and deleted things u shouldnt have?if thats the case u are lucky the computer is working at all.your cd drive isnt working either?u are going to either have to get a new drive or reinstall the operating system so that the driver for it is reinstalled.if its the drive itself that doesnt work anymore no cd is going to work to reinstall anything.to get your pictures u are going to have to have someone recover them for u by taking the hard drive out and going from there.i hope this helps u.

When trying to Download or Open some PDFs from URLs we are getting "xxxx.pdf might have been moved or deleted" as follows:

If you choose Retry, the PDF then successfully opens.
This happens on some sites where the PDF is forced to open using the Viewer, and doesn't open in a separate Tab in IE.
This has only occurred since upgrading from IE9 to IE11 (running Windows 7).  Have tried changing IE11 to compatibility mode, using different PDF viewers (Acrobat 11 and Foxit), Using Windows 8.1 Client with IE11, and none of these has fixed the problem.
Once the download succeeds it generally succeeds on follow-up attempts as it is in the Clients Cache.
We have identified that the only way to workaround this is to bypass our Proxy server (which has been also updated, unsuccessfully to fix this very problem).  This is not a viable option and googling this very error reveals a similar unresolved result.
Using process explorer shows that the PDF is placed into the clients PC as a xxxx.partial download, and upon renaming it to xxxx.PDF, it opens successfully.  This appears that the download merely fails to validate the download properly, but I cannot
expect users to perform this step.

Hi Stephen,
do you have a reproduction URL?
If it is an internal/intranet site, make sure you are using response.close() and not response.flush in your server code behind.

I have three internal hard drive
C: (Windows 7 x64 & Software)
E: (only photoshop picture)
F: (only music, video, company files based on my years of work)

Since the time I install windows 7,
There was always problem when saving or trying to delete a file.
Like photoshop was saying to me 'can't save the file because of admisnistrator permission'. So i needed to recreate a new files each time.

I tried on hard drive E: folder to right click and remove the 'read only' case and that have helped for the photoshop saving problem.

but all the other mini bug that tell me : can't save file because of admisnistrator permission, kept going...
So i search on google how to become the administrator and have total control over my files. this is the website I follow instruction from :
How to Get Full Administrator Rights in Windows 7 | Web Talk

But I removed some user names in the permission and do not know how to add them or resolve this problem.

Now i can't completely access my E: drive AT ALL, neither C: drive at all
It write : E:/ Is not accessible Access is denied

Here is a picture of my screen and what I see :
Did I lost years of works or just can't access it ??
How do I access it??

A:Hard disk - Admistrator, permission problem??? YEARS OF WORKS DELETED?

Sounds like it would be worth the price of this program:

O&O Software - O&O DiskRecovery 6 Hard Disk Recovery Software

I used it to recover a lot of GBs of video on a defective drive, and was very happy with it.

EDIT: Rereading, I'm not certain that this would solve the permissions problem or not, so wait for someone else to chime in, before shelling out any money.

When one follows the instructions in Microsoft kb924457 (a workaround for a Works 'Entry Point Error') and runs the Works Clean Up Utility followed by the Windows Installer Clean Up Utility, all works files located in Program Files are completely wiped out!! When I upgraded from Works 4.0 to 8.0 I kept all works files in Program Files instead of moving them to My Documents.

The utility(s) wiped out 10 years of works personal data files.

I have tried a variety of recovery programs that all recover about the same but none will recover these files (this was a really thorough utility), .wdb, .wks and .wps files.

I contacted Microsoft and all they did was search C: drive, including temp and hidden, folders via live assist. They would not recommend any third party recovery programs.

Are there any recovery programs that you would recommend that would do the trick? I am dumbfounded at how these various recovery programs I have been using have found deleted files from up to a year ago but not these works files.

So I opened an Office Writer attachment (.odt) from an email and made edits to that document. I hit save but not save as.Tried to open the file the next day but it got deleted. I did some research and realized that was stupid and looked everywhere for advice. So I've gone into temporary internet files folder and I cant find it there. I had deleteted my internet browser history yesterday. Following some random advice on the internet I tried to restore my browsing history by downloading som index.dat reader. Needless to say I am so completely lost. I just need to know if its even possible to recover it. Im willing to goto any computer shop and pay whatever it cost at this point. Oh and the exact message I'm getting is:

C:\Users\Paul\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Window\Temporary Internet Files\Low\Content\poli352a[1].odt does not exist

A:Need a file from temp internet file but I accidently deleted browsing history

First, download the free Process Explorer.

Run Process Explorer.

Open your e-mail program (mine is Outlook Express).

Open your e-mail message.

Open your attachment (Office Writer attachment (.odt)).

Inside Process Explorer, right-click the new process (from the application used to open that attachment).

Select Properties...

Select the Image tab.

Look inside the Command line bar.

You'll see the exact path to the temporary folder created for the attachment.

Make sure to check "Show hidden files and folders" and uncheck "Hide protected system files" in Folder Options.

Only copy the part from C:\Users to Content.IE5.

Note: a new folder number is created each time you open an attachment (e.g. IGSDF94V)

"C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~2\Office10\WINWORD.EXE" "C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\IGSDF94V\Example.docx"

Paste that path inside the My Computer address bar and click OK.

You'll have to look inside each folder manually for the name of your document. The folder number will be different from the one you're seeing inside the Command line bar in Process Explorer.

Do not run a Search. Look very carefully inside each folder. It should be there!

I have opened C:\Users\ but I cant find the folder with the name of my deleted user account.
Can anyone help me?

It's very important yet big file (around 2 GB). Thankss

A:How to restore file in deleted user account (Desktop File)

Hi Blaume, welcome to the Ten Forums.

I am sorry but when you deleted the user account, it's gone, all its files are gone, forever. The only way to get the file back would be to restore a system image made before the account was deleted.

The built-in guest account no longer works in Windows 10. However, you can create a new Guest account by yourself:

I have looked everywhere for a solution for this problem I have. I've even gone to other forums to ask around, and no one knows anything about this issue, or how to fix it.

My system is an HP Pavillion dv5 notebook
Intel(R) core (TM)2 Duo PC p8400 2.26 GHz

As far as my sound goes I have:

IDT High Definition Audio Codec
NVIDIA High Definetion Audio

Here's my issue:

My sound works when I have one browser open at a time. I can watch netflix, hulu, youtube, anything that has sound. For only the first browser I have open. However, when I have multiple browsers open, the sound won't work on the 2nd one.

Here are a few examples:

1) I used to play World of Warcraft. If I logged on ventrilo, and then WoW, I would have sound for vent only. If I logged onto WoW first, and then vent, my vent would have no sound.

2) I currently play league of legends. The interface is in one browser, and when a game starts, it opens in a separate window. Most of the time, I have no sound when I am playing League. I've done almost everything I can think of to try to get sound to work. I've worked with computers for years, and I am currently working on my A+. This seriously has me stumped.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've been reading the many post regarding the problem with opening new windows and nothing seems to work for me. When I open IE and try to click on open new window it just freezes for a minute and then acts as if I didn't do anything.

What I found out today is that when I press ctrl-n to open another window and then close the original window, the "open new window" and pop-ups work in the second window.

Any ideas why it doesn't work in the first

That is a very strange solution. I have this problem currently and the only way I figured out how to fix it was to get a new browser Opera.

I'll have to give that a shot when I get home and see if it fixes anything.

Hi guys.

I posted this on the 'Software and Hardware' forum, but got told to try here.

This evening I went onto my Windows Vista laptop just to browse the internet when I noticed this message pop up straight after I had booted up:

I saw that it had been deleted and I have no idea why. Now, I'm not an expert at computers but I knew this wasn't good, so I clicked 'restore' and I never saw it again. However I restarted and noticed it again, but I didn't click 'restore' this time, and as I went to download a file it wouldn't download (something along the lines of: .exe couldn't be downloaded... please contact administrator)

I don't think it can be serious because as soon as I 'restore' it everything's back to normal, but it is really annoying that after every statup this pops up. Please can you help me rectify this and allow me to have a stressless time whilst browing on my laptop.

Hello, I've upgraded my os to windows10, then found that there is no new hp driver for my Q1859 monitor that works with windows 10.  The resolution is supposed to be 1366 x 768 - 60 Hz according to a little pop up that I get when I try any resolutions larger than 1280 x 1024.  I'm set at 800 x 600 now.  Everything is really huge and stretched out horizontally, and I have to use scroll bars to see the whole screen.  1024 x 768, and 1280 x 1024 make the text really small and I still have to use scroll bars.  Any suggestions?  Thanks in advance. VATrip

Hi: I don't think it is the monitor that has the problem. I think you need to install a compatible graphics driver if one exists for your model PC. What is the full model number or product number of your PC? The product number can be found on the same sticker as the serial number.

After some battling with drivers I was able to get the touchpad gestures to work, which was the last thing left to make all the laptop components work under windows 7 (which is not supported by Acer for this laptop). I could not find the solution anywhere on the internet so I thought I would share my results. First off I installed synaptics drivers v17_0_19_C from synaptis official website. After installation they are not recognized in the system and the touchpad has still the default microsoft mouse driver. I opened the device manager and manually updated the driver using the option "from disk" and pointed to the synaptics driver. Now in the device manager the device name is "Synaptics HID TouchPad" but still it is not functioning and it has a yellow exclamation mark. After reboot I started the "snappy driver" installer software which found an update to the touchpad driver. Voila!I got the synaptics console in the taskbar and all the gesture and scrolling options. Where is the driver from I have no idea though, it has version, date 2015-07-23, Synaptics, not signed.

OK i should admit that this was a slightly dubious file alledgedly proving a certain starlets dislike of underwear..... However the file name is so long that Windows XP will not let me delete it... also the file was corrupted ( no pun intended ) so has a zero file length.. I did virus scan the download and AVG said file was not virus.... anyway i need to get rid of it any ideas....!!!

A big shout out to all replies But the Biggest thanks to Moderator John Will who had the simple idea of shift everything else then delete folder........ Why is it always the simplest ideas that work best... PS I eventually saw evidence of starlets dislike of pants on google images.... Take off safe search and leer away without having to download any suspiscious files.

Thanks Again

I'll get straight to the problem.
I deleted dllhost.exe and dllhst3g.exe from windows/system32/ and also stopped the desktop window manager service.Don't ask me why =)

After a couple of restarts everything was fine. But after the 4th or 5th,i keep getting stuck at my desktop background. No start bar or icons. Can't right click or open the taskmanager.

I got the files i deleted from the same ver. and build from another win7 Ultimate.Replaced them and started the desktop window manager service. All in safe mode. But still i can not start my windows...

If anyone could provide some information other then formatting my pc,which i would like to avoid since i have some important projects on there.

Thank you in advance.

Hi -

Boot into Recovery via the hard drive recovery partition (usually press F10, ALT+F10 or F11 during boot-up) or using your Windows 7 DVD. Once in recovery, select "Windows System Restore" - choose a restore point prior to the deletion of the EXEs.

Hi y'all.

Recently my laptop running on windows 7 home edition started acting up. I boots up fine but once i get to windows then it gets tempremental. Sometimes it works fine until the screen saver comes on, sometimes it does not even open a browser window before it freezes.

I had trend micro titanium antivirus that expired last week, after which i installed avg. I thought it was the culprit which i uninstalled and installed avast and superantispyware. I ran both and they found a few problems that they claim to have resolved. Still the computer was not working well. Again in safe mode i ran kaspersky and it found 3 trojans that it removed but still no improvement.

I would really appreciate your help in resolving this. I have followed the instructions from the sticky and below are hijackthis log, DDS.txt, Attach.txt file and ark.txt file:

Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi and welcome to TSF

Not all "recovery" disks contain a full operating system, they merely access a
hidden partition on the original hard drive.

Go into BIOS by tapping F10 as you power up and run the hard drive diagnostic routine and post back the results. The logical answer is you have a bad hard drive.

I deleted a Windows XP game file using the uninstall function in the control panel. A few days later my grand daughter wanted to play it and when I tried to install it I got a message stating that it was already installed. I did the "search programs and files" and the game does not show up. Is there a better method of deleting a file.
I am running Parallels 8 on my 27" 2011 iMac OS 10.6.8 12GB Ram

A:Deleted file not deleted

Try scanning files and registry with CCleaner, also check %AppData% and ProgramData, Program Files, My Documents for remaining files.
