Amending Normal HTML template that Access 2003 generates

Q: Amending Normal HTML template that Access 2003 generates

Created an Access 2003 Database 4 years ago, and am now trying to automate saving the indidivual pages of a report to individual schools. Exporting as an HTML document works well as saves each page as an individual file. However, the Normal HTML template that this is based on includes Navigation buttons at the bottom of the page, allowing you to view the next school's invoice!!

Where can I access the Normal template in order to remove these buttons, please.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've customized the blank "Document 1" which auto-opens, and I've customized my toolbars after a new install with W2K. But, one setting won't take: I'd like that blank page to open in the "Fit to Window" view, but that setting doesn't update/save in normal.dot. When I save it with another name as a .dot file, rename normal.dot, and name my new file normal.dot, it preserves the view setting but loses my custom toolbars. How do I preserve my toolbars, document settings, and view setting all at the same time?

Hi,

I want to create an email format on HTML that I can use to email out clients using our corporate image.

here is a sample:

I know it can be done because I receive emails and newsletters from our partners similar to that.

I wish to accomplish that on Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2007 since we have a mix of both in the company

A:Creating an HTML Template on Outlook 2003/2007

Hi SrillAlive,

Outlook was never designed to be anything other than an end user WYSIWYG editor. (What You See Is What You Get) While you can right click on HTML emails you recieve, and View the Source html, there is no "out of the box" way to compose an html email.. Outlook does it automatically for you. There are add ons availabe... but they tend to be overpriced for what you want to accomplish.

It looks like you host through http://www.dynaserve.com ... I'm not familiar with what type of email solution they offer you or if you just resolve your mx records to point to your own server. Regardless IF you use thier email application they probably have a web interface and a way to compose email from it.

I would assume your best bet would be to start there and see if you can copy and paste your code to the web interface.
There will more than likely (hopefully to make it easy for you) a way to select the formatting of your message in thier email solution...e.g. switch from rich text to html < >

....OK now I looked up your MX record and it looks like you would log into https://email.secureserver.net/login.php...
Start there amd see what you can accomplish.

Another option is to use a diffent application to compose and send your email or build a simple vb app and call on outlook ado's

There are a ton of free open source progs that do just this... its a matter of preference and ease.. I would recomend one but I don't use them that offten as I... Read more

Good afternoon all,

I've been tasked to create a DB that will help a local school in managing their School Governor meeting data, all part of a "green" drive.

There are 15 governors on the full board, and they are also spread across 7 sub commitees. They want to capture meeting minutes (by committee) all typed up, with proposers, seconders, etc etc, as well as issues arising, so they always know exactly where they are, what is outstanding, who owns the issues and so on. I guess there's a bunch of other stuff to add in too!

I have a sample current "Minutes" report I could edit and post if it gives clues as to the results which need to be PDF based and which will be "posted" to a secure area on their website.

A very worthy suggestion....

Has anyone ever done one like this?

If so, words of wisdom would be gratefully received!

Cheers!

Hi, I have a .dot template containing vba that i would like to use for new documents. However, as soon as I rename or relocate this template, any document that I have previously created from it loses all inherited vba. I was under the impression all elements of a template (such as vba) were meant to be passed on (embedded into) to the new document at creation, instead of just the template passing its own path/folder reference so that the new document can be directed back to the template to read the vba when required.

As the documents created from this template will be distributed to various computers which may not even have a local copy of the template, this is a big issue. I am using Word 2003.

Thanks for your help.

Hi
I am relatively new to Access. So far I succeeded to complete couple projects, but now I face a real challenge: I need to write Access web application. Unfortunately I have never written any code in HTML, JavaScript or any script at all. I know that by using Page object, Access creates web application, but for my project I would need to modify it.

I have a couple questions.

1. Does anybody know of any good book I can learn writing code in HTML for Access 2003?

2. I have an “EMPLOYEES” table and want to use ComboBox to find the record of the employee by name. How can I do that in HTML?

3. Another ComboBox would display a zip code, and by the Zip Code field, the fields City and Area Code would be populated. ZipCode, City and AreaCcode are the fields in another table, which linked to “EMPLOYEES” table by ZipCode_ID. How it can me done in HTML?

I appreciate any help

Thanks,

Is there a way of attaching each HTML file to a separate email, and even picking up the email address in the To box from the email address on each page of the report?

You can use that in Outlook Express. Either use a stationery. Cloud8 has many free ones for you. Or create your own HTML page and use it as a stationery.

Alternatively, in OE compose window, go to source (View > Source Edit) and write your own HTML there.

I am having a problem lately with Word 2003.

Every time I open Word, the Normal template has changed, and all the Options I have selected are lost. (I have for example: show paragraph marks, tabs, Use the INS key for paste, the measurement units, always create a backup copy, Save auto recovery info every 4 min, prompt for doc properties, in Writing style use grammar & style, etc.) And every time I open Word all my personal changes have been lost.

I have even made the Normal Template Read only, so it cannot be changed, but to no avail.

I have noticed that Normal.dot is very big: 497,152 bytes. None of my other templates is that big. Even if I open one of my personal templates, all my personalization is gone.

When I open Word it asks me that it has saved changes to the Normal Template, and if I want to load it? If I click yes, my changes do not appear, and if I click No, the same thing happens.

This is happening in three of my computers. In one, I have Windows Vista Business, in other Windows XP Professional, and in the other Windows XP Media Center, all with the latest actualizations and patches. Also, Office 2003 is actualized. And it happens both in my User Account (I am the Administrator), and in the Guest Account.

The only thing that I think that has changed since this began to happen is that I installed Windows Office Live Add-In. Even that I have disabled this toolbar, it is still happening. And since I use word in a daily basis, it is very cumbersome to change... Read more

I am new to this forum thing, so hope I am doing it all correctly. What a wealth of information! Hopefully someone can help with this:

I teach Keyboarding and my lab has a computer with MS Word which has the default text set with the sparkle effect. When I tried to change it to Times New Roman, 12, normal text in the Normal template, I could not do so because the Normal template has somehow been changed to read-only. I can't delete the Normal template and create a new one. I can't rename the Normal template.

1. How can I get my default font fixed in the Normal template OR get Word to automatically open up to a different template each time?

2. How do I keep Normal templates on my other computers from getting changed to read-only by students?

Hello all,

For no apparent reason the bullet function in Word is now behaving strangely. When I apply bullets using the Bullets tool, it indents the paragraph three inches in, and uses a checkmark rather than the default bullet. I am able to change the style and make it the default, but I'm wondering how to get the defaults back. I have deleted the Normal.dot template from %user%\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates, and it has created a new one. But the defaults do not seem to be restored.

I'm using Word 2002 (10.6612.6626) SP3, and XP Professional (2002; SP2). Thanks for your help.

We can open an html document in Microsoft word by either specifying Response.ContentType = "Application/msword" or by clicking "Edit in Microsoft word" on the File menu.

However, it always opens with margins set at 1.25in, and I need them to be .5in.

I have tried setting styles in my (asp.net generated) html page, I have modified my normal.dot document template, but nothing seems to affect the margins (as displayed in the "Page Setup" dialog).

I have googled this question for hours (days, really).

Do you have any idea what I could try?

Whenever Word runs and finds no "normal.dot" it creates a new clean one.

From your description you cannot have deleted the active normal.dot as the old one is plainly being used.

Please remember it is marked as a "hidden or system file", so you have to enable the viewing of those files or it will remain invisible.

Hi.
I have customised some of the toolbars in MS Word, to add things such as a Page Setup button, line spacing, WordArt etc, but occasionally it resets itself.
It comes up with a message saying:
"Word has automatically updated the Normal template. Do you want to open it?" or something simmilar. Whether I say Yes or No, it still resets it.

After it happens, I have to go and re-customise my toolbars in a Word file, and also re-enter and save my e-mail signature (MS Outlook is using Word as the e-mail editor).

This is very annoying - can I make Word ask permission to update the Normal template so that I can bypass this? Or does it need to be repaired / reinstalled?

Thanks,
Gram

Hi folks,
I am not sure exactly when this started to occur, as I mostly use Linux on this box, and it's a while since I tried to install from an exe on the XP part.

When I try to run most installers for applications I get this error.
When I try to run SOME already installed applications (most are okay) I also get this error.

I have no idea what is causing it.
I have tested the ram and it came up okay. I tried to run a checkdsk on C: (which set itself to run on next reboot) but windows failed to boot when it came time.

THE ERROR:
"Access violation at address 004096DA. Write of address 00400000"

Any tool I've tried to install to try and fix it simply creates the same error and thus can't be installed. So my computer is a bit stuck!!

Does anyone have any bright ideas? I would really rather not reinstall Windows, which is about the only fix I can think of.

With thanks,

Jonathan

A:XP generates Access violation with most .exe's

Further information:
This error actually prevents quite a few programs from running. Not sure just how many.
I did not occur when XP is in safe mode. I can install and run programs to my hearts content.
In Safe Mode I have run various tools to clean up / fix the registry. I also ran a tool from http://wiki.djlizard.net/Repair_Permissions to repair registry permissions (in case that was the issue). All of these tools made a large number of changes. I also ran lastest Adaware and that cleaned a couple of minor things up.

Once back in normal boot mode, the problem persists.

I would really like to fix this.

With thanks,

Jonathan

I am running Word 2010 on a PC, running Windows 7.

I cannot figure out how to make changes to the "normal" template and have those changes apply to old word files.

In old versions of Windows and Office, I used to be able to make changes to the normal template by going in through the Appdata, and the changes that I made would be reflected in both new documents created, and old documents when selecting "normal" as a text style. However, now I cannot even make changes to the normal template by going through file locations and saving changes.

I can only make changes to the normal quick style icon (by right clicking on "modify" and then applying all changes to "new documents based on this template.") However, this does not alter the "normal" quick style icon in files saved prior to making the changes to the normal template. How can I get my updated normal template to apply to all documents, not just new ones?

OR- maybe there is another solution...

The reason I need the normal template to apply to all documents is that in the new word, I cannot copy and paste and maintain source formatting (even when pasting special and selecting "keep source formatting".) The paste always takes on the destination style, and if the destination style has a "normal" template that is different from the source "normal" style, it automatically selects the destination style and WILL NOT keep source formatting. Hi, I am new to this forum and I am hoping someone can help me (get one over on my boss, as he can't solve the problem either!)

My problem is; at work we run Word 2003 and word 2007 we have created a template which consists of what is basically a table into which we enter names and ages within the table. The text in the fields needs to be updated about 3-4 times a day and is done by many different people, some of whom have managed to change the column widths and heights meaning the table will no longer fit on one page when printed which is absolutely essential.

Is there a way that the table and margains can be locked at all times but he text freely edited by anyone without mucking up the settings? I have had a scan through the forum and can only find advice on how to lock headers/footers.

Any suggestions or solutions would be very much appreciated.

I work in an office containing 80 people. We all use emails that we send on a regular basis, with minor amendments, so I created 5 templates. Each user has the templates added to their toolbar & is not using Word as the email editor. The templates are stored on a common drive, so that changes can be picked up by everyone instantly.

Occasionally, system problems may result in the users Citrix profile being reset by the IT department, which means that the templates are lost & have to be "re-installed", which is fine apart from the fact that I spend more time re-installing them than I did designing them! I've put together a walkthrough so the users can attempt to re-install them, but not everyone is capable.

Is there another way of me allowing everyone to have access, in the same way as they do now, but without the need to individually restore them every couple of weeks?

Thanks in advance

Hey All,

I have a serious exam coming up, and I'm trying to print my study notes onto Avery 5388 index cards. I'm having two huge problems that I THINK are easy to fix, I just don't know how.

1) The cards come three to a page, and that's what the 5388 template has in word. Here's the problem: when you are pasting information into one "card", and it gets to the bottom, the text doesn't wrap to the next card; it just disappears below the line. Is there anyway to the tell the template "when you get to the bottom of this index card, start putting the overflow into the next card?"

2) Even were I able to do this, there's still only one page of cards. How do I tell the template to create more pages when the text gets to the bottom of the last card on the page?

I need to take care of this fairly quickly, so any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

HI guys I need to create a template of our letterhead in office

why do we need to do this?
This is so we can create a PDF invoice or general letter and email it. We are using Flash paper to convert files to PDF

We have 2 letterheaded papers, 1 is the mane letter head and the other is a continuation sheet.

What I want is to create a template in office 2003, when using this temaplet if I write an invoice and go past the first page. Office automatically adds the second page "continuation letter head" and continue to do so for as many pages I add.

So basically the first page should be the Letterhead and every page after should be the continuation sheet.

The letter head and the continuation sheet look very similar except the continuation sheet does not repeat our address phone numbers and so on.

Can you please help.

Please email me at [email protected]

Hello all,

I created a MS word 2003 template with large font (36pt)for grandparent so that they can see clearly what they are typing. Does anyone know how can I then print that template into regular size 12-point font automatically without changing the font size manually? Is there a way to convert one template to another template?

Thanks for the help.
Cheers

What you should be doing, is to create a template that is set with Zoom as 500%

You leave the font size to 12 point.

That way you can open the template and type what you want in 12 point, so no problem printing, but have it large enough to see the words on screen.

Hope that helps

Happy Holidays!

Running Office 2007. Have made a template for a client that features VB (not legacy) CheckBoxes, ComboBoxes, and TextBoxes. The template is a one page document with tables; the client (a dental surgeon) enters patient name and date, checks various boxes about patient condition/recommendations for treatment, selects text from combo boxes. Auto text will also be included.

The problem: The template takes up to 60 seconds to load on his machine (New Dell, 1Gb RAM, NTFS, Office 2003). I save the template in "compatibility mode" on my machine (P4 2.8 Ghz 1Gb FAT32). Also, the template takes about 10-15 seconds to load on my machine.

How can I speed it up? Is it a compatibility issue?

Thanks.
