Preferred Solution: Thought I Fixed My Infection But Now Runs Real Real Slow?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Thought I Fixed My Infection But Now Runs Real Real Slow?

Click on start, then control panel, and then double-click on add/remove programs. From within add/remove program uninstall the following if they exist by double-clicking on the following entries:Fix these with HJT ? mark them, close IE, click fix checkedF2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=explorer.exe "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Folders\ibm00001.exe" O20 - Winlogon Notify: msctl32.dll - C:\WINDOWS\System32\msctl32.dllDownLoad http://www.downloads.subratam.org/KillBox.zipRestart your computer into safe mode now. Hi there Guys.
Since some time my system started to run really slow. When i open an internet explorer evrything stops and i cant open anything until the page is completly loaded. Coping things from my external harddrives or camra takes now 10 times longer. Same is if i work with my pictures in photoshop. I use avg ad-aware and xoftspy. Avg after scan shows me that user 32.dll shell32.dll ntoskrnl.exe hosts has been changed but the avg faq says that that is normal. The thing is before it all started to hapening avg didnt show those changes. One more thing System runs normaly in safe mode. I would apriciate any help. Cause i dont have time to format and reinstall system again.

Helping a lady with her computer. It just seems to be running very slow. When you connect to the Internet, then click Explorer it slowly loads as you watch it in the progress bar on the status bar Even when it looks like it is finally there it still won't come up for a long time, however, even tho the home page is not up, if you type an address in the address bar it will take you there, slow but will get you there. If you go back to the desk top and click explorer, It will again look like it is loading but not come up or have to wait for a long, long time. (as in like 4 or 5 min.)

Also if you are loading something like windows updates or a download and close it to the bottom of the page so you can go to another site while that is downloading ,it seems as though it will either freeze up or take an extreme amount of time to get there, you wait and wait and you finally think well its not going to work so you click on something else. Then all of a sudden the page you wanted will come up. Does not matter if it is a web page you are waiting for or to get somewhere like start>settings>control panel still takes a long time.

I ran Adware SE 1.06 ---clean
spybot S&D-------------clean
setup spyblaster
script defender
ie-spyad
spyware guard
Has ZoneAlarm firewall
McAfee ran and it is clean
Redid the host file
Ran regseeker

So I thought maybe there was something in the HJT Log that should come out. I am not at her house now but going back tomorrow so any help... Read more

A:Windows 98-Everything is clean-but runs real slow & weird-Would you look at HJT Log?

Your log appears clean. Not sure what is causing your slow system, but it could be any number of things. Is the RAM maxed out? how about the CPU usage? Not sure what to tell you about the pointer.

To enable the Dial-up Networking Connection icon in the system tray, follow these steps:
1. Open the Dial-up Networking folder. In Windows 98, you can access this folder from My Computer on the desktop. In Windows Millennium Edition (Me), you can access the Dial-up Networking folder from Control Panel.
2. On the Connections menu, click Settings.
3. Click to select the Show an icon on the taskbar after connected check box.
4. Click OK to close the Dial-up Networking Settings window.
To disable the Dial-up Networking Connection icon in the system tray, use the steps in this section, but click to clear the Show an icon on the taskbar after connected check box that is mentioned in step 3.

My university requires Cisco Clean Access Agent, and today the program decided I needed to update Real Player and Quicktime.

The thing is I started this computer from a clean install (DBAN, the whole nine yards), and never installed either program. I did, however install Real and Quicktime Alternative.

The tech support people here looked at my registry (which is scary in and of itself), and said there were traces of the programs there.

Hi,

First, I'm not sure if this kind of discussion is allowed here, so, I'm not sure if I have the right to ask this but if this topic was to be closed, I would like to be informed about where is the right place to post this.

But I wanted to question what are the real threats presented to XP so people "MUST" upgrade as I see many people say. They say it's an obsolete OS (although many applications and plugins still install just fine) and incredibly unsecure.

So, let's say that the user it's not a total beginner on computers (would happily click on the "get your prize" ads and read fake bank emails and get scared) nor a total expert (works with security in an IT sector of a company and already seen enough to be scared of security holes).
It's just a guy who knows how to keep an antivirus updated and to enter only known major sites (facebook, outlook.com, google websites, netflix, amazon, etc.) and not to download software from blogs, and rarely reads email, using social networks to communicate instead.

What kind of threat is this user really exposed to? Like, in detail, what security hole it is and what does it do to the PC, that should urge this user so much to upgrade and get away from XP, a known extremely stable OS?

Really makes me curious to see people recomend so passionately to upgrade just because of the EOL of the OS.

ok so I'm a software junkie,I downloaded Realspy.exe 2 months ago,well its a trial version,and its in stealth mode,
i can see it in the corner, says in order to get it out of safe mode,I have to buy it,which is 50 bucks
anyway it won't run in safe mode with networking, but in Regular mode,my Avast will not run because of this keylogger,
Now I've checked every area of my © program files, looked in windows folder which I quit after a while,
ok People say Antivirus can stop it,Malawarebytes, spybot search and destroy,Anvi smart defender, ewido anti malware,
and i've used r kill and rouge killer anyway none of them helped me,I mean i found Trojans, and all kinds of critters hidden deep in the windows registry,I believe its a .dll it has to be oh and I also used Invisible Stealth Mode key logger Removal tool,by Strong Hold Security, but Everytime I used it,it installed a B.S program in my window's x86 folder under the folder Skill brains
I mean I could delete it and use the software and a different program would be under that folder,I read a txt that was in that folder,it had so much Evil Commands for the Virus to Do it was awful .anyway Running a Acer inspire I think Windws 7 x86
not that that matters, just I see people acting like that's a big deal, also sorry about the bad grammer holding son while he sleeps
anyway thank you for your time

I have run a hijack this log as well as some others. One was a process scanner and it flagged Wininit.exe. Seems like not a good thing. I also have ran several scans to try and find it. Yesterday in Safe Mode---Spybot and SuperAntiSpyware. Nothing was found. My scheduled McAfee scan found nothing. I am running another McAfee scan right now. I have tried to delete this process using hijackthis and a tool found at http://www.pchell.com/virus/wininit.shtml . Still this process seems to remain. It does not show up in my registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Software
Microsoft
Windows
CurrentVersion
Run

A process scanner still shows it however. http://www.processlibrary.com/processscan/

My latest hijackthis log is below. Someone please easy my mind as to if I am really infected and if so how to correct it.

Hi All,

I used this forum a few years ago and a poster was so helpful so I'm turning once again to Tech Support Guy.

I first encountered this problem when I clicked on a link and got infected with security tool virus which kept telling me to go to their site to remove all my viruses. It would prevent me from accessing task manager and my browser. Well, I first renamed my taskmanager to ieexplore and killed the process and then installed malwarebytes to remove secuirty tool (or so I thought). My browser was still hijacked. I can go to google.com on both mozilla and ie explorer but the links redirect to sites like findstuff.com I installed spyware doctor and found:

spyware.possible_Website_hijack 27 infections (all host entry)
application.trackingcookies 40 infections (both browser and flash)
spyware.known_bad_site 1 infection
adware.advertising 8 infections

Only way I have found to stop it, is to power down my system, count to 30 and re-start.

I have scanned my system with Malwarebyter, SuperAntiSypware and GData Antivirus.

Hello all, I have been a long-time reader at this site, and in the IT industry for 15 years myself, and I have for the first time come across a virus (rootkit?bootkit?) that I can not seem to clean myself.

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Dell Inspiron 560

The PC was running a bit slow, but I had noticed any problems. I was using Verizon Internet Security Suite for AV. Now I seem to be able to search google once, but then unable to use any links without randomly being redirected to apparently benign sites. I also got a warning that my bandwidth usage was extremely high, and it could be because of a bot or some such.

So far, I have removed several infections with Super Anti Spyware, run Malwarebytes with no hits, AVG and Verizon Security with no hits. Combofix hung during nearly the last process, TSSDKiller(sp?) was unable to run at all, even when renamed and re-extensioned. I get Error Code 0x80070424 in Microsoft Security Essentials while trying to update. Hitman Pro 64 got no hits... And I believe that is the extent of my current troubleshooting. All scans have been tried in safe and normal modes, though I have not tried creating a new user and scanning from there, or removing the drive and scanning it as an external (I can, but with no luck on every scanner I typically use, I'm not sure what exactly I'd even scan it with...)

Also, I can not boot into the 'repair my computer' console, because it hangs at 'windows is loading files' (with ... Read more

A friend of mine just called. Seems like his puter just slowed to a crawl.
Happened yesterday. Possably lightning. He has cable w/ an external modem set up.
Slow boot, but real problem is extremly slow on internet connection.
he has gone thru all the steps on the help menu for xp but can't find the problem.
His neighbor has the same cable connection and his modem was knocked out by lightning, could this be the same problem?
Where should we proceed from here?

A:Real Slow

There is one sure-fire way to tell if it is his machine or his modem. Take your box over to his house, hook it up and see what happens. If yours behaves the same, you'll know the problem belongs to the cable company.

Slow is how I describe the performance of my SSD. I've had this SSD for about a year and over the course of the last few days I wasn't quite sure what was going with my computer.

At first I was getting these random lockups which the only way to break it was to reset the PC. They first started when I came out of Sleep, then even after the desktop got loaded on a clean bootup, it would freeze too.

Event viewer didn't tell me anything other than I had an unexpected shut down. The latest mini dump is dated last year.

Everything takes so long to load, even booting up to the desktop takes longer. I used the sites Restart-Time utility.

Restart-Time Results October 2010 - 47 seconds
Restart-Time Results November 2011 - 110 seconds

I also had taken similar snap shots from the AS SSD Benchmark tool. I've posted the results which shows October 2010 vs November 2011.

Here are my system specs:
Alienware Aurora
OS - Windows 7 Professional (64bit)
CPU - Core i7 Extreme 975 @ 3.33GHz overclocked to 3.6 GHz
Motherboard - Alienware 0H869M
Memory - 12 GB DDR3 1333MHz
Video - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 295 1.8 GB RAM
Sound - Creative SB X-Fi Titanium
HD - OCZ Vertex 2 100GB SSD - Primary Drive, Western Digital 300GB SATA-II 3GB/X, 10,000 RPM, 16MB Cache - Secondary Drive

I'd appreciate your questions or recommendations what I can do to correct this situation.

Thanks,
Greg

A:SSD Real Slow

I would suggest you make sure you have the latest firmware. Then, from a cold boot, let it idle at the login screen for a few hours. See if that speeds it up a little. I would also run sfc /scannow to make sure the problem isn't system files.

I have a dell computer with windowsxp. It is getting really slow. I don't download alot and I have checked for viruses and done maintenance on it. It still runs slow. I have heard that you can't do a full restore on dells. That you have to send it in and let them do it. Is this true? And if anyone can give me any tips on how to speed my computer up I would really, really appreciate it. Thank you and PLEASE HELP!!!

A:My computer is real slow!!

You heard wrong, Dell makes it easy by shipping an install CD so you can do it

SpywareBlaster http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
AdAware SE http://www.majorgeeks.com/download506.html
SpyBot S&D 1.3 http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/

DL them (they are free), install them, check each for their
definition updates and then run AdAware and Spybot, fixing anything
they say.

In SpywareBlaster - Always enable all protection after updates
SpyBot - After an update run immunize and make sure teatimer is enabled

Do these before the next step.

Then get HiJack This http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html, put
it in a permanent folder (C:\HJT) , run it , DO NOT fix anything, post the log here

Howdy all. In the last few weeks I've noticed a strange new quirk on one of my machines. After I boot up, if I do a right-click on anything (file, folder, etc.) the menu does not appear for at least 20-30 seconds. After that, right-clicks work just fine on all subsequent files or folders as long as I don't reboot. When I do reboot, the slow right-click happens again but just on the first thing that I right-click on. After that, all is well. Weird, huh? Not a real big problem, just annoying. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

Hi, Welcome to TSG!!

Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
Click on Install.
It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

A:Son's PC starts real slow

Everything seems fine, how much space out of the 10.5gb is left? Or is that another PC? cause in order for a computer to run smoothly all window OS's state that 15% of the hardrive be FREE.

If it is not that, I dunno what else it could be so you'll have to scan your RAM for any errors. Cause faulty ram appears often. I recommend 2 tools and I recomment 2 do both incase 1 gives diffrent results.

Memtest86 3.0 Release: http://www.memtest86.com/#download0
Microsoft RAMDiag: http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp

If it finds any errors, I suggest you call the company and explain the scenario and make sure you log which errors have occured. Most RAM has a lifetime warranty so it should get replaced at no cost, except maybe the shipping.

I came across this problem myself about 1 month ago and I used these tools simply returned to my retailer showed them the log and a few pictures off my digital camera and they handed me a new stick of ram...

Cheers
John

Hi,

This is is my first post so try to bear w/me.

I was recently given an LG 52x32x52 cd burner. Everything works fine and all except when buring. I've used a few different media's and it's the same result. With my old burner (LG 12x24x8) it would burn 700mb cd in ~6 1/2 min but w/ the new burner it would take almost 12min.

I've been told to enable DMA mode but was not able to do so either thru Device Manager or BIOS. It is only in PIO mode. One person told me that the new burner might not be able to support DMA but I'm pretty sure that the new burner (which is about 1.5yrs newer than my old one) should be able to.

I've used Nero and Alcohol 120% but both say that I'm only buring at 8x. The media I've used are all rated for 48x and each time I've set the burn speed for 48x.

I contemplating a fireware upgrade but from reading the instructions fear I might seriously mess up my system.

Any help or suggestion is greatly apprecitated.
