Can I reinstall Windows 10 for free if I roll back to Windows 7?

Q: Can I reinstall Windows 10 for free if I roll back to Windows 7?

Windows 10 upgrade began installing on my Windows 7 computer before I could stop the process. I had planned to have a dual boot system with Windows 7 and Windows 10, but I now have just Windows 10 installed.

If I downgrade back to Windows 7, can I reinstall the Windows 10 update (after preparing a new partition for it)?

Also since I've already activated Windows 10, do I still need to install it before July 29?

Preferred Solution: Can I reinstall Windows 10 for free if I roll back to Windows 7?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Can I reinstall Windows 10 for free if I roll back to Windows 7?

If you have previously installed Windows 10, and received a digital entitlement, then you can rollback to Windows 7, and reinstall Windows 10 later, even after the July free upgrade offer is over.

I installed the free version of Win 10 & ran Win 10 for a few days & could not get my Dell 968 AIO printer to communicate with my computer no matter what I tried. Consequently I rolled back to Win 7. After getting the rolled back Win 7 to run fine, I tried to verify that Win 10 was authenticated to run on my computer, just for future purposes in case I want to go back to Win 10 within a one year time frame. Everywhere I look on Google the instructions are all the same to do this: Click Start, Settings, Update & Security, Activation. There are no such options in Win 7. Any ideas/suggestions on how to verify Win 10 Authentication on my computer using Win 7 would be greatly appreciated? By the way, I do have the folder Windows-old on my computer which I suppose is my copy of Windows 10.

Thanks, Bud Rose

A:How do I verify Windows 10 Authentication after roll back to Windows 7

Hi,
Windows old would most likely the win-7 not 10
You would of been better off creating a system image of 10 then roll back to 7.

It would of been better also to have created a system image of 7 before upgrading so you can get rid of any bugs that may surface
Plus it could of been used if 10's upgrade would of failed or if rolling back to 7 would of failed.

Either way with all of the digital entitlement.... once upgraded you can reinstall 10 or so I've read anyway

So as far as verifying 10 I don't believe there is a way beside reinstalling it

hi all, my friend has just upgraded from windows 7 to windows 8 on his dell latitude st tablet z670, but doesn't like it, can he roll it back to windows 7? if so how would he go about doing this,? and if he cant whats his best options, thanks in advance for any help.

A:windows 8 roll back

No, you can't "uninstall" Windows 8 and return to what was in place before hand.
The options, and only he can pick which is best, are:
1: Keep going and try to get used to the system he has now. It isn't that bad, but it does take some getting used to and some people just don't like it.
2: Apply some of the many tweaks (and there are many indeed!) to return some of the look and functionality of the older version. Be very careful while doing this that he doesn't pick up anything malicious.
3: Back up his files and reinstall Windows 7

My memory is restored but now Security Center says inactive and Windows Service Pack 3 is gone or is there but showe no file size or option to remove in Add Remove programs. Windows Update says it has been successfully downloaded and wont give me prompt to run again. Windows is acting strange and I am getting popups because I have no security center active.

Is it possible to rollback all updates to just before Service Pack 3 and then trick Windows Update to fix a now buggy OS? I am using XP Pro.

A:How roll back windows without reinstalling it.

Windows 7 has it's own built-in imaging tool.

Backup Complete Computer - Create an Image Backup

Some folks find this tool to be very limited in what it can do so they use other free imaging programs like:

Macrium

Paragon

EaseUS Todo

And still others use the paid versions because of even greater versatility.

One scenario is to do a clean install of Windows 7, install an anti-virus suite of choice, and then install all Windows Updates. Once that's been done, make a system image and save it to an external hard drive. Install any other programs, applications, etc that you use and make a second system image. Then, set up a schedule that suits your needs for additional backups of only new user data and a schedule for additional system images.

I think most people recommend saving backups and images to an external hard drive just because they are more reliable than disks, they have a greater storage capacity, and in the long run it's cheaper to buy a 1TB external hard drive that an equal number of DVDs ( about 225 DVDs that are able store about 4.5GB per disk.) Also, if one disk fails to burn properly the entire set of backup or image disks becomes useless.

Updated my windows 10 1511 registered version to insider preview 14376. I know I can rollback to 1511, my question is if I get another fast ring update, will I lose the option to rollback to 1511.

Henry

A:windows 10 roll back option.

Yes, you can only roll back to the previous version.

You best bet would be to roll back now, take an image backup then move on the the latest Insider build (14379). That way you can return to 1511 any time by restoring the image.

Been having issues with the Windows 10 installation on my PC

- Bad Pool Header
- Failure to Load
- Freezing on black screen before log in screen etc.
When I can get back in after several reboots and sometimes the Power off three times before Log in method, The PC boots with no issues and everything appears normal. Therefore I tried to return to Windows 7 using the recovery Section within settings.

Firstly it gave me a "unknown software exception (0x00 etc. ) behind the this will only take a short time to roll back screen
Then it automatically rebooted into repairing windows screen. Then I was back to the Bad Pool Header error, and rebooting multiple times to get it to restart and log in.
Now the error is "Before you can go back to a previous version of windows I have to remove any user accounts added after the most recent update."
There is only one user account, and it was the one that was in use on Windows 7 before the upgrade, there is no way to delete the account, and if you create another account in order to delete the first one, you are still left with another account that cannot
be deleted.
To be clear however, there wasn't a single issue with my window 7 installation, all the errors have only appears in Windows 10, hence the reason for the desire to roll back!
Cheers,

Hello, I have been having odd problems with my computer lately which i think i could because of an infection.
When i turn on my computer, it goes to a black screen telling me that a file is missing and windows must roll back (i can get that file name if needed) this has been going for about a month now.
I have random beeping sounds and other noises that sound similar to an old fashion computer beep. Today i scanned my computer with hijackthis
which showed many system32 files (missing), i do not think that is normal.
What i have done though is scanned my computer with antimalware bytes, My eset antivirus and kaspersky TDS killer. The TDS killer was the only thing that came up with infected files which i told the program to delete. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hello  Please use the following instructions and see if that helps:  http://www.thewindowsclub.com/rollback-from-windows-10 NOTE : MICROSOFT has told that they have only 30 days to GoBack to their previous OS.  This is because the information needed to do that is stored in two different places: Windows.old and a hidden Windows folder in the C: Partition. After 30 days, Windows.old still remains but the hidden Windows folder has often been removed -- by a Windows update. Once that folder is gone, you can not Restore to your previous OS. Also, unfortunately, the GoBack function is unreliable.  There are lots of posts on the Windows 10 forums about folks who performed that function only to end up with a previous OS that didn't work properly. If the restore information is gone, your only recourse is to restore using HP Recovery Media.  Details at the link: HP PCs - Obtaining HP Recovery Discs or an HP USB Recovery Drive | HP® Customer Support   Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again  **Click the White Thumbs Up Button on the right to say Thanks**Make it easier for other people to find solutions by marking a Reply 'Accept as Solution' if it solves your problem. Thank You,GBL84I am not an HP Employee

Hi,

Yes, its easy to do what you want using FREE Macrium imaging software. These tutorials explain exactly what you need to do:

Imaging with free Macrium
MACRIUM REFLECT - Create Bootable Rescue USB Drive

In summary:

1. Create an image of the existing Windows installation (and data if required)
2. Create a bootable DVD/USB to reinstall the image at a later date
3. Format disk and install Linux

If done correctly, the chance of losing data is very slim indeed.

Hi there, A friend recently brought me their Pavilion g6 as it was running very slowly. I can confirm that it runs about as fast as an opiate infused sloth! When I checked the Disk usage via Task Manager I noticed that it rarely falls below 70% and is regularly maxed out at 100% even when the machine is idle and not connected to any network. That problem is something I've seen now on several machines - all running Windows 10. I think that problem is compounded by the fact that the specs of the Pavilion g6 would struggle to keep up, even with a clean and properly functional Windows 10 install. (the machine in question was updated via Microsoft's automated, free upgrade offer). My intention is to reinstall Windows 7 for my friend. That's what the laptop originally shipped with and it ran perfectly well prior to the Windows 10 upgrade. Unfortunately the upgrade renders the recovery partition a moot point. Furthermore, as it has been a lot more than 10 days since the upgrade - rolling back is not an option. When I tried to download an ISO from Microsoft, I was prompted with the following message: "ErrorThe product key you've entered appears to be for software which was pre-installed by the device manufacturer. Please contact the device manufacturer for software recovery options." Hence I am now writing in the HP forum in the hopes of finding an answer to my inherited woes. I did the free upgrade to windows 10 however many months ago on my computer.
I have the oem Windows 7 Pro install dvd that i purchased from newegg.
I plan on gifting my current rig to family and would like to reformat my hard drive and do a clean install of windows.
But I would like windows 10 to be on the computer.
How do I accomplish that having only a windows 7 installation disk where you can no longer do the free online update to 10? thanks.

A:proper way to reinstall having Windows 7 dvd and getting back to 10?

You can prepare a bootable DVD or USB installation drives using the Media Creation Tool. You can use that to do a clean install. Start here:

Windows 10 - Clean Install

(Don't be intimidated by the detail. Scroll down to "Here's How".)

If you upgraded to Win 10, Microsoft's activation servers have retained a "digital entitlement" which will allow you to activate Win 10 online again on the same hardware.

I feel silly but I never have had windows corrupt on me, my printer stopped working with my desktop so I called HP support and they told me after several install attempts that wondows was corrupt so I installed the printer on my laptop and it works fine. So I believe what HP told me regarding the need to reinstall windows on my desktop. I have 100 gigs of data on my hard drive I don't wanna loose. I have never used an external hard drive to backup data and reinstalled it after windows is reinstalled. Can anyone recommend good software for doing this? Can anyone walk me through it so that my system will be like it was before I reinstalled windows?

Error code:0xe0f00013
I have a HP Pavilion laptop (windows 7 Ultimate 64bit system with a 2.3gb AMD Turion 11 Dual-Core with 8gb Ram.
I bought it about two years ago for my daughter. When I bought it I burned DVD's for the Recovery Disks. I have never used them UNTIL now.She was getting a message that it was NOT a Genuine copy, but it is.I figured that if I restored the laptop with the original DVD's that it would fix the problem.
I loaded the recovery Disks On the last Disk it gave me this:Recovery Manager could not restore your computer using the factory image-Please contact HP support,Error Code:0xe0f00013.I tried restarting laptop and it said BOOTMGR is missing .Press ctrl+ALT+DEL to restart. I called HP and ordered the operating system. When it arrived I loaded the DVD's BUT on the last Disk it gave me the same ERROR. Could someone from this wonderful site help me out. Maybe someone else has this same problem.(I did search this site for similar problems but did not come up with anything.)

Is this Recovery disk to reinstall windows from scratch, or is it a custom made disk, if so, do you have any option to format and start from scratch?

Hi all.
When i installed windows my bios was set to AHCI.

I needed to switch to IDE temporarily (had to do some tweaking to my WD green drive).
Booted windows and it installed some drivers etc.

Then i went back to bios and switched back to AHCI.

Any harm done to my system?
Anything i should check or worst case, a reinstall windows?

Thanks.

Hi everyone,

When my laptop was purchased back in 2009, it was given a free upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 because 7 was just about to come out. Now, I have restored my laptop to factory settings, which returned it to Windows Vista. Is there a way I can access the free upgrade again?

Thanks in advance for any help.

When I got my free upgrade, MS actually sent me a physical disk that I installed from. Do you not have a physical DVD somewhere?

how do i get it back? my total disk space in c is 37.28 gb. i had 80% free space in c before i did a clean reinstall as my hubby messed up something. im now down to 69% free space. what happened to it? the computer is working fine and i know windows xp home sp2 uses a lot of space but this is a puzzle to me. any suggestions welcomed. ive cleaned the disk and defragged but it didnt give me back much free space. i thought a clean reinstall is supposed to wipe everything out and put you back to brand new.

I just installed a new mobo and processor. Windows 7 boots up fine but should I reinstall anyway?

furthermore Windows 7 takes up way too much space from my 40 GB HD. Are there methods to free up space? Or should I just reinstall Windows XP?

A:installed new mobo, must I reinstall? and how to free space on Windows 7?

I would suggest that you reinstall Windows 7 given new hardware - your call.

Regardless, validate Windows 7 OS - www.microsoft.com/genuine

RE: Space - adjust system restore
START | type create | "create a restore point" | "configure"

Hi there, as the title says when I boot to windows 8 I get a blinking cursor in the top left corner for about 1 second, then I get sent to the BIOS. If I boot to my Linux hard drive however everything works fine.

I figured I would just install a fresh copy of windows, but when I boot to the install disk (I tried both 64 and 32 bit), the windows 8 icon shows up and I get the spinning dots for maybe 10 seconds or so then I just get a blank back lit screen. Is it just coincidence that my drive failed at the same time as both disks failed or is there maybe something hardware related?
Thanks in advance.

You may have to restore the Windows Boot Loader.
Check out some prospects by Googling "Restore Windows Boot Loader with EasyBCD",
and, check back here often; lots of helpful folks here at W8F.

Hello there

I am asking for a friend who has no net access so any further details required may take some time to get (we are in different time zones).

My friends has a PC that was already installed with Windows 7 and has a sticker on the side with the activation code. Unfortunately there is no recovery or boot disc. His hard drive has failed and he has a new one being delivered, however due to the sudden failure he only had time to make copies of pictures and other important documents and will not be able to clone drive or get any of the software of it.

There is another PC in his house which runs on Windows 8, will he be able to use this PC to download Windows 7 to a CD or usb stick and then install on his PC and new hard drive with the activation key? This would seem to be the simplest solution, but if not possible or there is another way (without waiting for a disc to be delivered) then any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

A:How to reinstall Windows 7 after failed hard drive, no back up etc

Yeah, he can download the correct Win 7 iso on any PC. Then use an application such as Rufus to make a bootable USB stick from the iso. Then use that stick to install and activate with a known good Product Key.

Or you could burn the ISO to a DVD.

Finding the ISO isn't as easy as it once was.

But it's doable. Maybe you already have a source?

If not, someone else will likely come along and post a link to a source. I haven't been paying attention to where that might be lately.

Rufus - Create bootable USB drives the easy way

I have an Acer Aspire 5733z-4851 and it's been nothing but trouble. I was having problems with it booting so I thought I would take it back to factory default levels. Now, it says that it's setting up but then I get an error message saying that there was a problem and Windows has failed to reinstall. It then shuts itself off and comes back on again. Please tell me what to do. I'm so sick of this computer I want to set it on fire!!! A step by step repair answer is earnestly sought and appreciated!

I have an ACER laptop that had windows installed on ti when I got it.  I tried to upgrade from the windows 10 link while it was free.  The install would get to the final stages and then could not continue so it would try to revert back to windows
7.  the computer would run all night and never get back to windows 7. I had to re install from my restore discs.  I put an early version of windows 8  on and now it wants to upgrade to windows8.1 but doesn't complete, so I am running the early
win 8. but would like to try windows 10 again but no longer have the free win 10 link available.  What can I do now?

Last spring, I had Windows 10 downloaded to my computer by one of those popup windows which apparently said do u want to download updates in 10 minutes, 1 hr, or 4 hrs? While I was gone, Windows 10 downloaded to my computer and
when I got home, I had windows 10 on my computer instead of Win 7 Pro.

2 weeks ago, I signed on email one morning and that was all I could do. Outlook would work, but I could not access and
websites; only Outlook. Tried several things but could never get IE, or other browsers to work. I reformatted the computer
which took it back to Win 7 Pro. Since the deadline is past, I don't seem to be able to get win 10 back, without purchasing a DVD? Anyone have any ideas?

A:How do I get the free Windows 10 back after Reformatting Computer?

The install media for windows 10 is freely downloadable from Microsoft. Because you took the free upgrade you now have a digital licence recorded on Microsoft's activation severs, tied to your PC's hardware. You can do a clean install and it will activate automatically. You don't need to enter a product key, just click 'I don't have one' when asked.

Instructions on how to get a bootable USB and how to do the clean install are in this Tutorial.

Hi Guys,  I have a HP Envy M6 Sleekbook. It came with Windows 7, and its warranty expired 2 years ago. I took the offer to get a free Windows 10 upgrade a few months ago. Now I want to swap the hard drive out. I have a system recovery ready to go on a USB stick, but its for the Windows 7 factory setup....   My question: Is there a way I can swap drives and get Windows 10 back without paying? HPO only lets you create a USB system recovery drive once, so I cant seem to make a new recovery drive with windows 10. When i get the factory Windows 7 up and running on the new hard drive, will I be able to upgrade to Windows 10 again since I already had it and just wanted to swap drives?  Thanks!!

This link should get you started: Windows 10 Upgrade   You can either install Windows 7 with your recovery disks and then upgrade to Windows 10 or you can create Windows 10 installation media [USB/DVD/ISO] and use it to do a 'clean' install onto the new hard drive. Notes about activation: If you?ve never installed and activated Windows 10 on this computer before, you?ll see the activation screen. Enter your Windows 10 key here. If you don?t have one, but you have a valid 7, 8, or 8.1 key, enter it here instead. If you?ve ever installed and activated Windows 10 on this computer before, click ?I don?t have a product key?. Windows will automatically activate once it?s installed.  If you found my answer helpful please say thanks by clicking on the Thumb's Up icon.          If my answer solved your problem please mark it as the Accepted Solution.
