I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:Media Direct Problem with Dell Inspiron E1405

I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 Laptop which keeps booting in Media Center i.s.o starting Windows XP.  When pressing the startup button, it is always Media direct that startsup.  I can't get into  Windows XP.  When i choose Exit from MediaDirect, i get a screen with exiting Microsoft Windows and a few seconds later the pc reboots and start Media Direct again.    I can't even turn it off,   the only way to shutdown the pc is by removing the battery!
If i browse in the Media Direct tool i can see all dirs, movies and pictures from the C drive so i assume HDD is still ok.
Does anyone have an idea how to solve this ?

A:Inspiron 6400 keeps booting Media Direct, can't start windows XP

Hi there,
I have the same laptop as you and have just been experiencing the same problem! After a few hours of trying to exit the media direct and trying to get into the boot menu somehow, I gave up and took my lappy to a computer shop.
They found that my media direct button was stuck, and that's why all my laptop would do is keep booting into MD. So check yours to see if it's stuck. The guys at the store managed to unstick it and we got into windows ok. Their advice was that is if it keeps happening, was to have that button removed and/or unistall the MD program.
Now, when I just switched my laptop on, it kept booting again into MD, with a few taps on the MD button, it released itself and I have now uninstalled the program via the control panel.
Hope this helps, it is a software problem and everything else is running fine.

If you've got a Dell laptop that is several years old, many of you will be aware of the living hell that is Dell Media Direct (referred to forthwith in this post as DMD). This is a program installed inside a partition on your hard drive, the idea behind which was to be able to access multimedia applications quickly even with the power off simply by pressing the home button on the keyboard.

Fine, good idea in theory. What happens in practice is that if inadvertently pressed, you can be caught in an infinite loop on boot up where the laptop never gets past the DMD screen and therefore you cannot access Windows.

For anyone interested, this excellent post by Dan Goodell explains in much more detail how this partition works:

There is a quick fix which works for many, which is simply to press the Home button again with the power off, and the machine toggles back from the DMD screen to boot straight into Windows. For many others, though, this fix does not work and what ensues is a nightmare trial-and-error process taking several hours or days of pressing random keys, following hunches, researching on internet forums and blindly installing recommended pieces of software in the hope that they might just work and extricate you from Groundhog Day.

Please bear with me here, this is going to be quite a long post. Yes, I have a problem, which will be listed near the end, but I also want to detail my problems and how I went abou... Read more

I have a dell inspiron 15R (5521, late 2012 model)
It was recently dropped, and the HD went bad. At first the screen froze, so I restarted, and Windows 8 went through the diagnostics and attempted repairs. I do not think it actually fixed anything, but I figured something bad was gonna happen so I was able to boot to windows after that, and began moving over files, then halfway through the PC would freeze again, and I repeated the steps about 3-4 times until windows just would not boot and I got the "no boot device found" screen when booting up.
I ran windows diagnostics after, and got the 2000-0151 error.
Then unplugged the HD, plugged it into another laptop with a USB Sata cable, and it would show up in the device manager AND disk management, but not on My Computer. In disk management, it was uninitialized and everytime I tried to initialize it said it could not due to an I/O error.
Next, I tried EaseUS partition manager, and it recognized the drive, but not any partitions on it. So next, again.
I tried the seagate SeaTools to diagnose the drive, and almost all of the tests failed BUT, after the first time I even opened the program, the drive showed up through USB in My Computer!!
I try to navigate through the folders in the drive now, but when I go to C:/Users/NAME file explorer freezes. Same if I just open C:/ and try to cut/copy & paste any folder. So as a last resort, I remembered I had the Windows 8 (not 8.1) Dell Direct USB Key.
I plug the old HD back in... Read more

A:Dell Direct USB Data Recovery / Windows 8 Inspiron 15R 5521 Failing HDD

The drive is too far gone for home recovery.  What you need to realize now is that continued efforts on your part might just render the drive unrecoverable.
You will need to contact a data recovery service if you need the data back - the cost will depend on the difficulty of the recovery -- minimum for a reputable service will run $600-750 or so.

Hi, guys. Last Christmas, I bought each of my twin sons a Dell Inspiron 15R. As teenage boys do, they really mucked them up with every kind of virus and x-ware out there. After not being completely successful cleaning them up with various anti-what-ever programs, I decided to reformat and do a clean install. Problem is, Dell no longer furnishes a hard copy of the OS that was installed at factory. Apparently, they have partitioned the hard drive and installed all original software in that partition, and provided a PC Restore program that will access all software and re-set-up the computer to the state is was when purchased. After doing this, everything worked fine as it claimed it would. Personally, I find it to be the best thing that Dell has done with MS in years.

My question is this...Can I dual boot this set-up with Linux (which I use exclusively, and my son wants to learn), or will this partition that Dell is now using cause me real problems in the case that I may need to perform a future PC Restore? Thanks.

I've a DELL INSPIRON ONE 2020 All-In-One PC (purchased on 15th April, 2013). I installed the Insider's Build of Windows 10 x64 about 2 months ago. I wasn't satisfied with it's performance, so I decided to reinstall Windows 8 in it (which came preinstalled as OEM when I purchased the PC). But unfortunately (for me), the DELL BACKUP AND RECOVERY software which I discretely installed in it failed to apply the factory image with error somewhat stating, "DBAR failed to apply the image". Also, the Dell Backup and Recovery is not even available in the Bootup Recovery mode and not even if I press F8 or other function keys. I googled and found methods to apply the image using ImageX tool in boot mode. I put the hotfix KB2525084 (actually the ImageX tool) in my Pendrive and in the recovery mode, I used Command Prompt and typed the follwing command:
j:\imagex /apply f:\DELL\Image\PART0001\EFI.wim 1 c:\
where j:\ is my pendrive ; f:\ was the partition with .wim image in it ; c:\ was the OS path to be recovered.
It completed in just 4 seconds! But other websites stated that it would take around 15-20 minutes to complete applying the image. I understood that something is fishy, and I was right! The PC didn't boot again. Also the apllied image showed just somewhat 250mb of data, but my hard disk (named PBR Image) was of around 9gb in size. The swm files in it (2 in nos.) were around 4gb each. I looked another forum and that stated to format the C:\ drive. I... Read more

Hello, I own a Dell Optiplex 745, running Windows XP Professional 32-bit. The Dell System Direct isn't launching, even though it will download, it says .APPLICATION, which cannot be opened. Does anyone have a fix?

A:Dell Optiplex 745 - Windows XP Pro 32-bit Dell System direct issue.

The older versions of Dell System Detect are security risks - if you're running an antivirus program, it may be flagging and intercepting the program.  At any rate, you should NOT be using Windows XP online at this point, as it has seen no security updates in almost two years - you really need to upgrade to a supported version of Windows (at this point, that's a minimum of Windows 7).

Hi All,
I received my Inspiron 7567 Laptop yesterday. It has 512 GB Toshiba NVMe SSD. Windows 10 is preloaded on the laptop. SATA is set to RAID 0 in the BIOS.
I downloaded and created a bootable usb drive for Ubuntu 17.04 using Rufus. Tried installing Ubuntu from usb. Laptop didn't detect the usb. Disabled the secure boot and changed the SATA to ACHI in the Bios. After this, I was able to install Ubuntu 17.04 along with Windows 10 in the free space of 30 GB which was created by shrinking the C drive.
But after ubuntu installation was completed, I was able to login into Ubuntu when as SATA is set to ACHI. But Windows 10 failed with error "no bootable device found". I changed the SATA to RAID 0, then Ubuntu 17.04 doesn't load.
I restored the laptop to factory setting. Still the Ubuntu Grub remains in the system. Currently I have changed the boot order to 'Windows boot manager' in boot sequence. I am able to login into Windows 10 successfully.
I would like guidance on setting up Windows 10 and Ubuntu 17.04 in dual boot mode. I already have a working Inspiron 5520 laptop which has Windows 10 and Ubuntu 17.04 in dual boot mode. But it has HDD.
I never knew I will run into issues (dual boot) while ordering NVMe SSD. Any help/guidance in this matter is highly appreciated.

I'm sorry, but I don't understand what you're telling us in the post. Going only from the thread title ...

What is listed under Network Adapters in Device Manager? What, if any, warnings or errors are in Device Manager?

You may want to answer those questions with a screen shot. If you need help with that see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows 7 or Vista I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool.

A couple weeks ago I reinstalled Windows (there was too much on it, viruses, running slow, blah) and it was working fine, but last night I turned it on (in the dark, I may have pressed the Media Direct button, I may have not) and the Dell Media Direct screen loads, I try to exit and the computer turns off. I turned it on again and it happens again. After a couple times of this, rather than turning off, the screen went black, then blue with "CONFIG_LIST_FAILED" STOP: 0x00000073 and something about dumping the physical memory and that I should start in safe mode.

I restarted the computer and went to advanced set up. When I try to start up in Safe mode, however, I get another error code, telling me that I probably have a boot virus!!

I tried booting from the Vista recovery disk but Dell Media Direct continues to boot first even though in BIOS it says it'll try the disk first.
Everything I have read on the internet about these errors has said to boot into safe mode or run repair on the recovery disk but neither of these things are working.

What are my options?!

(I don't mind losing everything that's on the HD because I backup frequently)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If I replace the hard drive will it be fixed?

Ok. I got my inspiron 1525 dell laptop with windows vista home basic. I got it on christmas, so that about 3 weeks ago.

When I first started up the computer it was fine, I downloaded my music from my other computer and my pictures. I then downloaded mozzila firefox and picasa.

everything still worked, widows media player for music. and media direct for dvds and such. EVERYTHING WORKED GREAT.
then things began to stop working, dell media direct wouldn't start at all, and widows media player basically ate my ram

after a week and a half with my brand-new laptop. it crashed, and yes I had virus protection software.

I wiped my computer and a friend had to start me over with the discs they send you for this and plus.

I downloaded my music, deleted a lot too, didn't download my endless files of pictures. Downloaded mozilla, avast virus software thingy and winamp media player(I'm never touching windows media player again, it already ate my computer once).

but NOW, it's four days later and dell media direct won't start. I have version 3. and I just watched a movie with it YESTERDAY.

I don't want to start over again, I don't have time, I leave home in 2 days, and I need this computer. I will be 260 miles away from anyone who can help me for free. I'm a college student who has no money whatsoever and a desperate need for this computer to work. I don't have a seperate hard drive to store my things on again and wipe and start over.

i have a dell e1505 it shipped with dell media direct. which means that when the computer is off and one presses the dell media direct button the computer boots from a different partition on the HD and allows a person to access music and videos. however i formated my entire HD because of all the crap that dell installs. i called dell for help and they said that i would need the dell media direct reinstallation cd to make media direct work after a format. so they sent me one. when i try to install it it says that it was unable to copy some files for the installation. why would it say this? where can i get some info about installing it? i called dell and they did not know how to resolve the issue. wat a surprise.

You need to boot from the Media direct cd and select option1. It will create a 2.01 GB partition (logical) for Media direct and allocate rest to OS. Then you need to reinstall OS and once the installation is complete, install Mediadirect from the cd.

I have upgraded my Dell XPS M1210 from XP to Vista and any connection to Media Direct seems to be lost. I mean, in the laptop there is no sign of that software.
I guess it wasn't installed with Vista because is not part of it but if I start the computer directly into Media Direct, it works fine but to get updates for example it says to go and access Media Direct from Windows.
How do i get Media Direct to "reappear" in Windows?

Other question:
Looking at my Disk Management, my hard drive is divided into 5 partition
1 110 MB EISA Configuration What is it?
2 is the C drive
3 8 MB unallocated
4 2 GB Primary (I think this is media direct)
5 3 GB Primary ( i think this is the Dell Symantc Recovery partition)

How do i get the 8MB unallocated and the 3GB of the dell recovery ( since it seems it doesn't work anymore) to be addedd to the main partition?

I just a bought a new laptop yesterday, DELL Inspiron 15 7000 Series Model 7537, with windows 8 installed, I checked the laptop and surfed the internet a bit, I checked the windows 8.1 in store and it showed me that I have to update my windows first in order to download this 8.1 update, i decided to update the windows.
When i started the windows update, it showed me there were 112 updates there, i clicked on download the updates, but none of them seemed to work, however I searched around and found that I must turn off the metered connections limit download. However, the updates seemed to download and after downloading around 70 updates i decided to restart my laptop.
My laptop restarted with a dell logo, and right after that a blank screen, and after a while a cursor.
I have been restarting my laptop since yesterday and to no aid, a blank screen is showed and nothing else happens. I tried to enter BIOS setup to boot from the other D drive recovery, but I am unable to enter the BIOS setup.
I try to press F8, F12, F2, F10, to enter BIOS or atleast start the automatic windows recovery, but nothing seems to be working.
I spent a lot of my hard earned money to buy a new laptop with a new windows, and this is really frustrating, any help would be highly appreciated.

Try running the Dell Diagnostics Test (the full version) to see if it detects any problems. Here's how: How to Run the Dell. If it does, contact Dell Support for assistance (there's a link near the bottom of the above article).

I hope this helps. If the test comes back completely clean, then post back and we'll try something else (or if your computer is still under warranty, contact Dell Support anyway as they should be happy to assist you and know more about your computer than we do).

Some LOW Profile cards WILL NOT FIT.  The ASUS Silent 5450 and 6450 Definitely will.
The low profile must be REALLY low profile or the cover will not go on or the heatsink will prevent the hard drive bracket from going back in or both.
Get an ASUS SILENT RADEON HD 5450.  THE EAH5450 from ASUS fits in ALL Models of GX280 EXCEPT THE USFF Pictured Below.   THE 5450 Comes with 2 sets of brackets for Low Profile or standard slots.
If you have USFF you cannot install ANY card because there are no slots.

So. The primary power button is non-responsive.

The media direct button works after you hold it for a few seconds.

It also loads into media direct if you put the battery back into the laptop automatically without touching any buttons.

It sometime spontaneously starts into media direct when the screen in closed and turned off.

I cannot gain access to the windows environment or bios, or access the boot Cd's because it won't turn on via the main power button.

I wasn't quite sure where to post this, so I'll try here. I have installed W7 RC and the Dell MD BluRay software and it works except it wraps the video around the screen. IOW the left side of the video starts about 1/3 of the way from the left side of the screen and the right of the video wraps to the left side of the screen.

I have tried Arcsoft TMT3 and PowerDVD and the video is fine, but no sound from TMT3 and PowerDVD spiked my CPU to 100% 5 times watching a movie yesterday. Had to completely shut down the program and restart and then it would run fine for a while.

If anyone has any suggestions or knows of a Dell upadte, I would be gratefull.

My dell inspiron 1720 fails to load operating system. When I boot I get this "dell media direct express cannot access your hard drive. This may be because you have enabled Microsoft Bitlocker(Drive Encryption). MediaDirect Express is not accessible when Microsoft Bitlocker is enabler"message. I have tried to repair operating system from a Vista DVD, but it will go on Startup Repair window then it will search forever. I let it searching for the entire night, but it would not finish. I also tried to run chkdsk /r, fdisk /mbr to repair the boot sector. I then booted up and it bring the Microsoft windows vista window and would not go beyond that. could someone please help. I don't want to format the HDD.

My 16 month old pressed the MediaDirect button on my Dell 1420 laptop and I didn't think anything of it until my computer wouldn't boot! I was originally getting the Dell start screen followed by the message "Invalid partition table." Here is a list of things I have tried so far and the results:

1. Ran fixmbr in XP recovery console - no change

2. Downloaded and ran "Dell Media Direct Repair Utility" - "Invalid partition table message was replaced with "2 active partitions"

3. Ran fixboot c: in recovery console - no change

4. Downloaded and ran Ultimate Boot Disc CD - tried to set one partition as inactive, but it says there is a partition error and won't let me save

5. Downloaded and ran Windows XP Emergency Boot Disc to try and bypass the mbr and boot into windows to get a few unbackedup files off - the Windows loading screen was a welcome vision, but instead of booting into Windows, the laptop booted into MediaDirect.

6. I repeated #5 - got the message "Windows could not start because the following file is missing for corrupt: <windows root> \systemroot32\hal.dll Please reinstall a copy of the above file"

Is there any way to fix this without reformatting?? Others have posted in various places on the web that they have been able to fix it, but it seems I'm running out of options!!

A:Pressed the Dell Media Direct button and laptop won't boot

Alright, it's fixed! I downloaded a Windows XP Emergency Boot CD from AnswersThatWork. I booted from that CD and and got to #6 above.

I did a little research and decided to boot with the Windows XP CD and go into setup. I saw that my partitions were back to the way they were before this whole thing, yay! When I was having issues, it seemed that my C: drive had swapped with my F: drive.

Next I decided to go back into Recovery Console and try bootcfg /rebuild at the prompt again. I did that and this time it added the OS on C: to the boot list, but it was added as partition 3 (it was added as partition 1 previously). Then I typed fixboot c:. I rebooted and everything booted up normally!!

I guess that since it was the first time that the MediaDirect button was pressed, it was trying to do stuff (ie build its new partition, etc) and because I shut down in the middle of everything, it messed up my partitions. Just allowing MediaDirect to finish setting up fixed the partitions.

I have recently upgraded to windows 10 and everything seems file except one problem I am facing which is the wifi card connectivity issues. My connection to router drops very frequently, curently the generic driver which windows think is appropriate is installed. I wanted to undate that with Dell's driver which I can't find on driver download section. 64 bit WiFi driver is NOT there. 32 Bit driver is but that won't install on my machine.
Can someone from Dell help? either to give me the link for correct driver download or confirm driver is not available in which case I would need to downgrade to windwos 8 as the system is unusable in its current state.

A:Dell Inspiron 15R 7520 SE - Windows 10 64 Bit WiFi Driver not available on Dell Site

On the Drivers & Download pages for the Inspiron 15R 7520 there are only 64-bit options for Windows, whether 8.0,8.1, or 10.   So those drivers are the ones for the 64-bit version of Windows 10, as long as you filter the operating system option to Windows 10 64-bit.
The file name may state "Win32" but if you click on the "View Details" link, and then check "Supported Operating Systems" near the bottom of the page you'll find that the driver supports both 32-bit and 64-bit versions.
You don't mention which wireless card you have in that system so I can't link directly to the specific driver.  Which card do you have and what error are you getting when trying to install the drvier?
I would also recommend updating the firmware on your router.  Many routers need an update to be able to handle Windows 10 specific drivers and cards reliably.   What router brand and model are you connecting to?  And do you have problems with all routers or just this one.
Lastly, here is a link to the Dell Networking & Wireless Support Center.  You will find a few support articles in there that may be of help to you.
Let me know which card you have and when the last time you updated your router and, if you can't get the connection to work, I'll see what else I can suggest to help you.

My dell inspiron 530 keeps freezing up when I turn it on, and it won't go anywhere past the screen that reads Dell in blue, says www.dell.com underneath that, says Vista in the bottom right, and says F2= Setup and F12= Boot Menu. It won't respond to any keyboard commands such as F12, F8, or F2. I've tried messing around with the drives and such, but still no luck, I'm sure my video is connected correctly, but still it freeze's at that same mene every time, and that menu loads instantly, usually it takes a few seconds to load. If anyone could help me, that would be great, I would like to have my computer working again soon please. Thanks.

A:Dell Inspiron 530 not booting

Welcome to the community.

The system freezing at startup could be due to software or hardware malfunction. To rule out any hardware failure, please run the diagnostics on the system. To run the diagnostics, please perform the following steps:

1. Restart the system and start tapping F12 at Dell logo. (Please do not hold it down, tap it multiple times when Dell logo is still up on the screen)
2. Once in the Advanced Boot Options Menu, please select the option that says Diagnostics.
3. Let the diagnostics complete and note down any errors that you receive.

In case any hardware component is failing, the tests will indicate the same. If the hardware passes, then we can work on the software part.

Kindly revert with the findings. Glad to help.

Thanks & Regards

Can someone help me. I have a Dell Inspiron 1525. About 2 years old. I use it just for basic stuff. My battery does not work and I am in the process of ordering a new one. So for now, I use it plugged in. It has been working fine until 3 days ago when it said something about a corrupted file on the C drive ( I think). I tried a system restore but it wouldn't do it until it did a chcksc. I did that and then the system restore and it was fine. Everything was fine. I tured it off regularly last night and when I turned it on today it will not boot up to windows. I turn it on, it goes to a black screen (which it often does telling me to press F1 to continue, which i press and it normally works). Today, I went to do that, and it starts loading up but only gets to the black screen where it says "windows corporation" and stays on that. Now, when I turn it on...

The black screen (that occurs when I turn it on) says: The Ac power adapter wattage and type cannot be derermined. The battery my not charge. The system will adjust the performance to match the power available. Please connect a dell 65W AC adapter or greater for best system performance. To resolve this issue, try to reseat the power adapter. WARNING: the battery cannont be identified, this system will be unable to charge this battery. Strike the F3 key if you dont want the power warning messages again. Strike the F1 key to continue. F2 to run setup utility and F5 to run onboard diagnostics.

Hi, I can't seem to get anything higher than 1920x1080 in the list of available resolution options when I connect my Dell U2713HM monitor to my Dell Inspiron 15 laptop. I've run this monitor at 2560x1440 on another laptop over HDMI in the past but that was with Windows 8. The Intel HD Graphics 530 Control Panel doesn't offer any resolutions above 1920x1080 for the external monitor and adding custom resolutions results in the error "the custom resolution exceeds the maximum bandwidth capacity". I'm using the same high speed HDMI cable that worked at 2560x1440 with this monitor on my previous laptop. I'm fully up to date on all of the drivers for the laptop.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm not sure what else to try. Could this be a Windows 10 issue? Should I try the standard Intel HD Graphics 530 drivers from the Intel website?

I have a problem with my new laptop and it happens only sometimes. It is around 1 month old and it had this problem from the beginning . The laptop is a DELL INSPIRON 3552
1. DELL LOGO appears
2. Screen backlight is ok
3. Windows won't start ( window's logo doesn't appear ) and if i plug an external mouse the cursor is on the black screen.
If I shut down the laptop from the power button and the start it again it works. It's very random. Once I had to restart the laptop for 3 times before the windows started.
Any ideas ?

A:DELL Inspiron Windows screen black after DELL logo

Thank you for writing to us!
As we understand that the system doesnt not boot and just goes up to the Dell logo and after multiple restarts the system works fine.
In that case ,Can you boot the system into " Safe mode " and check if the same happens..You can also perform a system restore and also check for updates pending .

Hi all, hope someone out there can help me with this problem.

Last year my girlfriend gave me her old Dell inspiron e1505 laptop to fix. I had my buddy test it and we figured the motherboard was the problem. After a few months (and motherboards....eg: wrong one, sent back original for repair....) I got the correct motherboard from eBay...refurbished from Dell, put it together and it's still not firing up. I get the battery light on and when I hit the power button the other three lights light for a second and then they go out and nothing happens. I don't hear any signs of life either.

Of course, needless to say I could buy another laptop but thats not the point. I need to figure out what's wrong with this one.....its about not letting it win.

Oh, and also my girlfriend came up behind me to console me (an attempt to keep me from crying) and I shot a static arc from somewhere on the computer (after it already wasn't booting up)....doesn't look like there was any damage and it's still behaving the same way with the three lights. I don't think this caused any damage.

Anyone have any ideas?

I am not very familiar with computers so bear with me.

I bought a used Dell Inspiron 7000 laptop that is not supposed to be working. The person I bought it from stated that it's supposed to have Windows 98, a 6.4 GB hard drive, and 192 MB of memory, and the description was that when turned on, the screen shows the Windows 98 startup logo, then does not go any further from there.

Upon receiving the laptop, however, when I turn it on it only displays the Dell logo at first, then goes into this set up where it is a black screen with the following information:

PhoenixBIOS 4.0 Release 6.0

DELL Inspiron 7000 C400LT BIOS Rev A15 (040A)

0128K Cache RAM Passed
System BIOS shadowed
Video BIOS shadowed
UMB upper limit segment address: EB90
Mouse initialized
Fixed Disk 0: FUJITSU MHH2064AT

Press <F2> to enter SETUP

*From here on it just stays on that screen. Nothing happens even if I press F2. What could be the problem and any ideas how to fix this?

A:Dell Inspiron 7000 not booting up

Here's an update.

I've been playing around on this laptop and when I ejected the DVD drive (I inserted a Dell Recovery CD for a Latitude CPi), it proceeded to add the following lines to the screen mentioned above:

0210: Stuck Key 23

Then it proceeded to display the Windows 98 logo (as described by the person I bought it from), accompanied by a fast, non-stop beeping sound. after about 5 minutes of this, it started displaying a black screen again with stuff that's too fast for me to read, then it's asking for me to select an option as to what mode I want it to start on. "Safe mode" is highlighted but the keyboard does not seem to be responding, and I could not go any further. Any thoughts?

Hey guys

First time poster here, but I have used this site many times to find solutions to problems I have.
Ok my Dell Inspiron 530 desktop refuses to boot for me. I switch it on and it does the usual beep once but my screen just remains black. I cant even get to the dell screen(post I think)

I tried taking out the ram and putting it back in as well as the hds. My g15 keyboard turns on as normal and when I try to hold f8 nothing happens.

Any solutions would be great

Thanks guys

You need to replace the hard drive - which, while an inexpensive component to replace, isn't easy to access on this model.  You may want to view the video below before deciding to replace it yourself -- or have a shop do the job for you.
You'll need a new 2.5" 7- or 9.5 mm SATA notebook hard drive (or hybrid or solid state drive).
