Yoga 720 shuts down while on battery

Q: Yoga 720 shuts down while on battery

Hi, my Yoga 720 decided that it should shut down when in battery mode. According to the windows system logs Kernel-power had a critical error. I tried to update BIOS to the latest version, but that failed as during the installation it stated that the battery is missing. Anyone have any tips, or should I contact the store where I bought it? RegardsAnders

Preferred Solution: Yoga 720 shuts down while on battery

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

hello, Ive had the yoga 900s for over a year, and in the last few weeks, suddenly my battery is acting out. I can charge to 100% and it works fine until around 20% when it suddenly shuts off with no warning. I concect the charger, and turn it on - the battery gauge always states 0%.  why did this start happening - is ther something I can do, or do I need to get it to a lenovo center? thanks,Nir

I'll try and explain this one best i can. User came to me with their Yoga 15 with an issue where it randomly shuts down on battery power, as in completely switches off.  It sometimes displays a message to say the battery cannot be detected, other times just shuts down. The conclusion I've found is that when the bottom panel is off the machine the battery is completely detected in Windows, and the Lenovo Settings app. It runs fine, never cuts off even with lots of IE instances open.As soon as I put the bottom panel back on the battery appears to be disconnected in Windows, and it also shows it not charging. Intermittently it also states the battery power is low or not detected when booting up. Found that there's a battery / system reset button on the underside that may be the cause of the issue. Pressing this button with the underside of the Laptop off resets the machine entirely, I believe it's the battery reset button incase the machine ever gets stuck at any point (as by rights it's a non-removable battery and there's a small pin hole on the case over this button). Works flawlessly without the bottom case in place, as soon as I re-connect it when the unit is on Battery power I loose the battery status in the Lenovo Settings app. The machine will then randomly shut down. Any thoughts on this one, it's the strangest thing. Many thanks all.

A:Lenovo Yoga 15 - shuts down on battery

When you put the panel back, is it touching/blocking any wires?
Have you tried to do a factory reset? If everything works fine then, try updating drivers one by one to see if it comes back.

Recently my Lenovo Yoga 720 15-IKB has started shutting down after a few minutes when on battery. It's fine when I use it plugged in. But once I unplug it and it's using battery (even when fully charged), it will consistently turn off after a few minutes. Nothing has changed that I know of since this started happening. It just seemed to start doing it one day. It hasn't been dropped or anything, it hasn't even left the house. I read around a bit and saw the recommendation to update the BIOS. So I've attempted to update the BIOS via the official Lenovo support page but run into an issue and it can't complete. It has me download 4mcn33ww.exe and kicks off Insyde H20FFT (Flash Firmware Tool). The process appears to run as expected until it turns off the laptop to restart and once it boots back up with the screen black, a red message states "Warning: No Battery Connected, This process requires AC power and a charged battery to avoid accidental power-off during an update". I attached a photo of what I see. I, of course, have the laptop plugged in during this process so I'm not sure why it says that. And prior to starting the BIOS update, Windows states the laptop is, in fact, charging/plugged in.  At this point I'm stuck. The only potential fix I've found online is to update the BIOS, but I can't update the BIOS due to the AC power error it seems. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hello, My yoga 530 is set to hibernate when battery is 5%. The settings are in "advance setting for energy savings"; then you can choose for some particular battery states to start a function. For the state "battery about to die (5%)" (i'm translating from italian, don't know if it's the same) i can choose only from 3 options: 1) shut down 2) hibernate 3) sleep. The problem is that when my PC is at 5% i just want it keep on, i don't want it to shut down or even sleep or hiberante. How can i do that?thanks in advance

My laptop is 2 years old and within the last 2 months, low battery notifications have stopped popping up, and the laptop shuts down without warning. Within the last week it has been shutting off after 10-20 minutes after I take the power chord out, and the battery never goes above 98% juice.  There's no error messages, and when I looked at the power options, it was set to turn off on 7%, as it has been since I bought it. I haven't updated anything on the laptop since then (it's a laptop purely for Word documents but occasionally I used it for streaming TV when my TV broke) and nothing else out of the ordinary has been happening to it.  I'm incredibly bad at figuring this sort of stuff out by myself, and Googlling it only gave me more confusion because it seems there could be a number of things wrong.  No troubleshooting seems to have helped or given an adequate reason for it, so I'm at a loss at the moment.

The battery status toggles between not charging, not used, and unauthorized battery after it was calibrated using one key. Before that, the battery was working perfectly, lasting close to 5 hours. Now the laptop shuts off when unplugged and the battery status is constantly changing. I've had this laptop for approximately a year now and it was unused and left in an unopened box for the first 8 months.

I am struggling with this for a while now. In Hungary we basically have no Lenovo support. My Yoga 2 is considered old but still a very-very good laptop. The Energy Manager complains that the battery is old and I can see it in its performance as well unfortunately. I tried several sellers on Ebay but I keep getting some crappy quality, usually old, refurbished like (but it does not work at all) batteries. I want a real ORIGINAL Lenovo battery that is BRAND NEW (not manufactured in 2014), that is a real stuff, not just a sticker on the outside, crap in the inside. Could you please help me?

2) I already unplugged and reinstalled the battery drives

I am a Yoga 700-14ISK user for 2 years. And I had encounter serveral issues with this laptop before (and the service center helped me to fix them) However, now there is an issue I just have now - my battery is draining fast like 1% lost per 2-3 min for light usage (browsing on Chrome or doing my schoolwork either on Microsoft Office or Google Drive) I suspected it was due to my battery wear level. However, as I monitored it, I realised it keep fluctuating (from 19.64% to 42.02%) until I re-calibrate which gives me 38.51% and then 38.71% after a charge to 60%. Is it possible the battery wear level can cause the quick drain in battery?  Is this battery wear level normal? I would also like to point out that I had the battery changed over a year ago and I normally used my laptop for schoolwork and gaming (occasionally now after realising the issue.) I am also going to have an internship (at least 6 months) from July so I am very worried that my laptop can't last long especially its battery. Hence, should I go to a Lenovo service center and request for a battery replacement? Please give me any possible reasons on why the laptop battery starts to drain fast and its battery wear level sharp increase, and also possible solutions for these issues. I would like to know more about it in order to sustain my laptop at least for a year.

Hi everyone! Is it ppossible to buy NEW battery form my Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro 13 Notebook? It uses the L12M4P21. I looked at many places but all the batteries are made in 2003 or 2004. As I know they loose their performance if they sit on the shelf for many years... Is it possible to find really newly made original Lenovo battery for my laptop?

A:I have a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro 13, I need a new battery... but NEW, not battery that was made in 2004!

Hi Moksa,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

It may be hard to say as because of the age of the model but you can try calling in EMEA parts sales desk for your region (Hungary 30 722-37-91). On the battery sticker is also the battery manufacturer which you can try but I am not as optimistic for newer manufactured battery.

I would say that as long as they provide the standard battery one year warranty, then it would be a good option to go.

I hope this helps answer your query.

Regards

I have brand new lenovo Yoga 15. From the first start up I am getting this error message: Battery Not Detected I don't know what is going on but this is a new machine right? Anyway, the laptop is connected 24/7 to AC, yesterday I needed to unplug it and after 5 minutes the system turned off. After turning it on I got this error screened: Critical low-battery error The thing is after I turned it on for the second time everything was great. The battery said that it's 100% charged. But after another 5 minutes or something the battery turned off again - WTH? Does the laptop's battery is broken and I need to give it for the guarantee?

Hi TomHG Which is the full model number of your machine? What I would try to do first is try to update the BIOS of your computer and the power related drivers just in case. But the message that is showing the problem on the BIOS (before Windows boot) it is not nice. I would try tp update the drivers with the following tools- Windows Update- Lenovo System Update- Install Lenovo Settings and Lenovo Companion.- Check on Lenovo Support site the driver for your model. If after updating the BIOS and power drivers of your computer the problem remains there, I will recommend to contact the Lenovo Support Center. If you are still under warranty Lenovo should fix it by replacing any part. Regards

My Yoga 3 pro is still a nightmare and so far is unusable given onging battery problems. However I digress. The thing wouldn't charge past 72% and took 2 days to get to that from 51%. So yet again I searched the net hoping to find something new and I noted yet another updated battery guage realeased only a few days ago. I also noted that someone had suggested deleting the windows battery drivers in Device Manager after disconnecting the battery which I figured couldn't hurt so went ahead. Once I reconnected the battery, plugged it in and waited for it to download the battery drivers, I noted it didn't install the ACPI component. Now lo and behold, I have no battery guage at all. In fact it says "The battery is not used", but of course it is. I then tried the latest battery guage driver but no improvement. Can anyone help in this age old problem? Cheers

Okay been using a Toshiba M40 laptop for a few years without much fuss, just half an hour ago it shut off unexpectedly when i was moving it from the bed to the table. First time it happened. When I turn it back on, it loads up XP, then when my apps are loading up, and my antivirus is doing a startup scan, it shuts off again, happens 3 times in a row. Looked closely at the lights, there are four blue lights (AC/Power/Battery/HDD), and when it shuts down, all four go out, then 2-3 secs later the AC and Battery come back on (usually when laptop is off, the AC and battery lights always stay on unless i unplug the adaptor or turn off power board). Finally got the shutdowns to stop by taking out battery. Ran MobileMeter and my temps are around 55C which shouldn't be overheating.

Now I admit i do keep the battery in at all times, i realize this might shorten the battery life but one time after a power shortage caused me to lose a document that i hadn't saved, i always keep the battery in as backup protection from when the AC power goes out. But these shutdowns i experienced are like my laptop suddenly passes out. I googed and a thread came up and someone said something about voltage and overloading problems, the mobo couldn't draw enough power or something and that causes shutdowns but i had no problems up until now, could a faulty battery be the cause of this problem? It scared the crap out of me because i thought the CPU was failing. I really hope it's not an ... Read more

A:Laptop shuts off when battery is in bay

Just found it it may not be the battery after all, i have taken the batery out and used only AC power, ran an antivirus scan (Cpu intensive task) to test, and after a minute or so it shut off again. Seems like it shuts down whenever it tries to draw a lot of power.

Could it be a dying motherboard? It's a Toshiba Satellite M40, fairly old laptop, definitely out of warranty but i'm not sure if i can even replace the mobo as its pretty old now (3-4 yrs old).

Hi, 2+ year old Yoga 900 is perfect, except for a recent problem that I just started experiencing a few months ago. Randomly, during the start-up, it will just shut down. This goes on for several hours where when I push the power button, the screen and keyboard backlight will turn on, the black screen with the white Lenovo text is displayed for serveral seconds, then the screen suddenly turns black and the computer turns off. I can keep turning it on and it will keep doing the same thing over and over. I have to let it sit for several hours before I come back to the computer and it "fixes itself". I can't make any corrolation to why or when this problem starts happening, or when it "fixes itself" (as in, it doesn't matter if it's plugged in or or not, or what the charge level is, etc.). I already had my battery replaced once, and I have no idea what might cause this. The computer has never been dropped, and I don't think its a power supply/battery connection internal issue becasue I can leave the computer sitting on my desk and it will start having this problem and "fix itself" without me moving the computer. A:HP 15 Notebook shuts down without warning on battery

Hi: Check the part number on your battery and compare it with the two listed in chapter 3 of the service manual for your notebook. http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04409502 It is probably the 3 cell battery listed in chapter 3 on page 19. HP has that part # in stock --$62.10 https://parts.hp.com/hpparts/Search_Results.aspx?mscssid=FAC0BA9E984748D6B98F3ABC366027D9&SearchIn=P... Why that happens is normally one of the cells is shot, so the notebook is running fine and all of a sudden it shuts down when power is required from the bad cell. You can also do a query by the part number and see if you can get the same battery for less elsewhere but make sure it is a genuine HP battery, or be willing to accept what you pay for if it isn't.

Despite having my system set to give me a warning when the battery is low, if I forget to plug in my laptop and the battery gets low, it just shuts down completely. (I don't even have it set to shut down when it's low...it's supposed to hibernate.) As a result, I've lost work several times. Also, when I plug it in and start it up again, it says I still have 24% battery, which is more than even the first alert or action is supposed to kick in at. I've read a bunch of articles about this and checked all of my Windows notifications and battery action settings and they're correct. (The HP thread I was looking at had a link to some kind of Windows 8 utility to check the battery's health, but, since I'm running Windows 7, that won't help.) I know this battery is rather old, but I usually use my laptop plugged in, so it's not worth spending the money to replace the battery, especially since this laptop is so old. (And, no - I don't want to get a new computer at this time, either). Is there anything I can do to fix this problem? It's happened to me several times -- I don't think I ever see a low-battery warning ever, anymore.  (As noted above, I'm running an HP Pavillion DV6 notebook, with Windows 7 Professional, 64-bit. I use it with wi-fi and haven't made any recent software or driver changes, other than the normal Windows updates, etc.)

My Asus X44H often shuts down (immediately) when unplugged, even though the battery monitor (Battery Bar Pro) I use shows that there is maybe 70%plus battery power left. It will run on battery OK for a while, then sometimes I get an audio warning that power is low, but often, as I say, not, the laptop just goes black.

The battery is now getting old, but before I buy a replacement, is this definitely a problem with the battery itself, or could there be some other issue here?

I don't have any problems when using a/c power..

Thanks

I am having one of my old units do the same and the battery is 2 or 3 percent when I bring the laptop back up on AC. It'll charge to 100% after a couple of hours and repeat the same exact thing 30 minutes after I disconnect the AC.
Let Me know.

I have an HP laptop with core I7 processor 2.4Ghz with 12Gb ram and 1Tb HD. Just purchase a new battery as the old one would no longer charge. Now, when plugged in, and the battery charges to 100%, the laptop shuts down. Any suggestions??

Although I have my notebook plugged in, the battery drains down completely and shuts off. The battery then charges while it's off and I start over again with the same process. I have used the original power supply as well as a working universal power supply. Neither one charges the battery while the unit is on.  I tried finding the Windows 10 battery companion by typing battery in the search bar. It isn't there. I do not have airplane mode turned on. What could be wrong? The battery now seems to drain more rapidly than before.

If my battery level falls below 30% the notebook will power off. I used the HP Battery Check in the Support Assistant which said that the battery is working properly. I unchecked the box on the battery saver and it still shut down.

Hey Im the almost happy owner of and Y700-17ISK, but Im having issues with the battery. If im watching a movie, or playing a game, meaning the laptop is on for ~2h or so with heavy usage, charger is plugged in. At some point it will shutdown unexpected, I can then power it right back up and now it will run on the AC adaptor. It does remember where i was in the game or movie, so its not a complete shutdown. This time however, Im sitting at a battery on 0% power, and it says not charging. Uninstalling the battery drivers from hardware management, have not helped. So im stuck with 2 problems: - Laptop drains battery to 0%, then shuts off -> turn it on, and it runs on battery.- My battery is now at 0% and wont charge. What do I do?

A:Y700 ISK drains battery, then shuts off.

Just a follow up. I tried using the AC adaptor of my friends laptop Lenovo Y70 Touch. It now goes straight to charging no issues. My laptops AC adapator however wont work on his Y70, it doesnt even recognize it as plugged in. This got me wondering....I bought a demo laptop from the store showroom, at a great price though! But it came without the box, only laptop + charger. It came with a 3.25A adaptor, his Y70 came with a 6.75A adaptor.Im sitting here thinking, how can you run an i7 + 960M and charge a battery on ~65W ?

I have a pavillion Dv6, and I'm having a problem with the computer simply shutting off when the battery is running low. It happened today when the battery was at 35%, and it gave no warning of low battery or anything. It didn't even go through the shutdown process... it just shut off immediately. I checked my settings, and the computer is supposed to go to sleep at 10%, and shut down at 5%. I'm running Windows 7 x64. Let me know if you have any advice.

Hi Drummer89,  do you have HP support assistant installed on your laptop? If so, perform the following steps"Open HP Support AssistantClick "Troubleshoot"Click "Power, Thermal and Mechanical"Click the "Power" tabClick "Battery Check" in the Resources section. It may be your battery is out of "sync" with your laptop. If you don't have HP Support assistant installed, click start>help. and type Battery, or calibrate battery. Please let me know if this helps.
