Q: Slow Computer/takes Forever To Shutdown/ Computer 2

Hey!My computer is really slow, although it might have to do with extensive memory usage I have a feeling it might be due to spyware and such programs. Can you please help me get my computer back on track? Preferred Solution: Slow Computer/takes Forever To Shutdown/ Computer 2

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Slow Computer/takes Forever To Shutdown/ Computer 2

Hello Diablita, Please perform this online scan: Kaspersky WebscanNote that you need to run this scan with Internet Explorer for it to work correctly. If you have any problem running the scan to completion, disable your Antivirus and/or firewall temporarily, just refrain from surfing around while the scan is running and be sure to re-enable when done.Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble with the accept button of the license, click on the Zoom tool located at the right bottom of the IE window and set the zoom to 75 %. Once the license is accepted, reset to 100%.1. Read the Requirements and Privacy statement, then select "Accept"2. A dialogue box will appear asking "Do you want to install this software?" My computer takes an extremely long time to boot up. I know I may have too many things opening at startup, but when I run msconfig I get an errorbox that says it cannot find the file.

Also it's not just slow on boot up but all the time. Takes forever to open applications and even when typing in word or any application, even techguys.org messages, there is a delay from when I type to when the text appears on the screen. Seems like every click results in an hourglass.

I have Win 2000 with a Pentium III processor. I have a 40 gig hard drive with just under 6 GB's free space.

Any advice would be appreciated.

My computer recently started to take so long to boot up into windows and when it does it takes such a long time to get to the desktop.  For example..when I turn on the computer it goes to the Microsoft Windows Screen and stays there for about2 or 3 minutes...then it goes to a blank black screen for maybe a minute...then finally to the desktop where it still takes another 2 minutes to get things to load and work.  I sure need to know how to solve this problem.  By the way it is a Windows  XP.--

A:Computer is very slow and takes forever to boot up...what is wrong??

Step 1

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.
Close all open programs and internet browsers.
Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
Click on Clean.
Confirm each time with Ok.
Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart.
Please post the content of that logfile with your next answer.
You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner\AdwCleaner[S0].txt as well.
Step 2

Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
The tool will open and start scanning your system.
Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
Post the contents of JRT.txt into your next message.
Step 3.

Please download HitmanPro. to your desktop.
HitmanPro (32bit)
HitmanPro (64bit)
Launch the program by double clicking on HitmanPro.exe. (Windows Vista/7 users right click on the HitmanPro icon and select run as administrator).
Click on the next button. You must agree with the terms of EULA.
Check the box beside "No, I only want to perform a one-time scan to check this computer".

Apologies for the delay. Is this the same computer you are posting about here? http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/122202/computer-gets-boiling-hot-and-screams/If so, your problems are most likely hardware related only and not something that HijackThis or the Malware Removal forum can help you with. Your log also doesn't show any signs of infection but that can be misleading. Even if this is a different computer, it doesn't appear that your problem is malware related. If this is a different computer I will need to see another HijackThis log to see if anything has changed. One thing I can tell you is that a lot of people have been having problems with ZoneAlarm--so let me know what is going on in your next post and we'll see then how to proceed.

Hello sheehka,

If you still require assistance, you currently have 2 Anti Virus programs installed which is never a good idea and could be part of your problem. More than 1 Anti Virus can cause conflicts and confusion between the AV programs as well as system instability. Please choose and run only 1 and uninstall the other via the Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel.

Run a new scan with dds.scr and post the dds.txt and new attach.txt

Hiya

Are you still having this problem? If so, do the following:
Download TFC by OldTimer to your desktop

Please double-click TFC.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
It will close all programs when run, so make sure you have saved all your work before you begin.
Click the Start button to begin the process. Depending on how often you clean temp files, execution time should be anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or two. Let it run uninterrupted to completion.
Once it's finished it should reboot your machine. If it does not, please manually reboot the machine yourself to ensure a complete clean.
Download and scan with SUPERAntiSpyware Free for Home Users
Double-click SUPERAntiSpyware.exe and use the default settings for installation.
An icon will be created on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program.
If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Updates". (If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download and unzip them from here.)
Under "Configuration and Preferences", click the Preferences button.
Click the Scanning Control tab.
Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked (leave all others unchecked):
Close browsers before scanning.
Scan for tracking cookies.
Terminate memory threats before quarantining.

Hello all! I have a little problem and I wonder if anyone here knows what's going on....
When I shutdown my computer it can take anywhere to 2-5 minutes. I used to have startup problems but I cleaned my registry and defragged so it will boot quickly. I have ran Malware Bytes, SuperAntispyware Free Edition, and CCleaner on my system. I deleted all the threats that occured but I'm still having trouble. I recently ran HijackThis and a error message popped up saying the following:
" For some reason your system denied write access to the Hosts file. If any hijacked domains are in this file, HijackThis may NOT be able to fix this.
If that happens, you need to edit the file yourself. To do this, click Start, Run and type:
notepad C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts

and press Enter. Find the line(s) HijackThis reports and delete them. Save the file as 'hosts.' (with quotes), and reboot.
For Vista: simply, exit HijackThis, right click on the HijackThis icon, choose 'Run as administrator'."

After I click 'OK' the HiJackThis log pops up and this is what it says:

Hello everyone,

I own a 2005 Sony Vaio laptop, w/Windows XP. For the longest time, my computer has taken forever to start up. I figured this might be because there are too many programs loading when it starts up. I went to this website http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php to see which applications I could remove. I tried to remove Norton's Anti-Virus, QuickTime, and a few others. I was told to re-start the computer so the changes would take effect. However, that didn't work. When the computer re-booted, I saw a screen that said I could either use the Normal Startup, the Diagnostic Startup, or the Selective Startup. I've chosen the Selective & the Normal Startups on different occasions and nothing happened. I know a few of these programs are Trojans. Are they stuck of my computer forever?

I've also tried a System Restore. Didn't work.

Thank you in advance.

Good day to any readers of this posting,

I received a JAVA error on my desktop and submitted this error information to JAVA; however, the response they e-mailed back to me was that I had contracted a new bug and they gave it a number for its name. Why not my name, who knows. LOL! We have to maintain humor, while dealing with ding-dong dang darn bratty technology, do we not? I did a full scan on my computer with Vipre Anti-Virus (found and cleaned 2 bugs with 8 traces) and Stopzilla (found no infestations). I wiped the empty space 35 times, along with both cleaners with Ccleaner. Additionally, I scanned with Registry Booster, Speed Up My PC and FixCleaner. My computer still takes forever to download an Internet page in pogo.com and game3.pogo.com. If it should happen to load and I get into a room, it freezes up within a few minutes. Does anyone know a good diagnostic tool that could assist me, while on this PC journey or an answer that does not involve more programs that do not seem to have an effect on this problem?

Tomorrow leaves the door wide-open for great potential.

Have a phenomenal day!

A:My Computer Takes Forever To Find Drives

Likely the computer is either indexing the drives or searching for network shares.

Indexing is used for quick searching, but if you don't do a lot of searching, you can turn it off by right-clicking the drive in explorer and undchecking 'Index this drive."

Hello -

As before, you seem well protected, and nothing is apparent in your HJT log. Do you do regular system maintenance, like deleting temp files and cookies, and defrag?

Do other programs access the internet freely? Such as updating your protection tools or using your email program?

Do you use an alternative browser such as Firefox or Opera? (You should, but that's for another tale) If so, do they experience the same slowness?

What sort of internet connection do you have? Broadband, dialup, modem, router, etc....

HJT is only one of several analysis tools at our disposal. Let's see if another one can find something amiss.

Well for one... starting with this typing situation... I could barely get on the computer to type in this forum. Becuase my computer is going crazy. When I start it up the POST takes longer than it usally used to take. It used to take about 3 secs, but now it takes like 30 seconds. and then for windows to load thats a whole other story. That even takes longer. Then when my computer finally boots up... ANYTHING I open takes about 30 seconds to 1 minute to open. It can't be hardware becuase this just started yestarday, and my computer worked perfect before. I even tried formatting my HDD and reinstalling windows xp. I DID THAT 4 TIMES and same thing over and over. I also thought it was my second hard drive (becuase it is 232 GB large and all used) so i unhooked it, and it still hangs. And I also tried AdAware and Spybot and Norton anti virus and nothing works... PLEASE HELP!!!

HERE ARE THE SPECS FOR THE COMPUTER: Asus P4P800 E Deluxe
Pentium 4 2.4Ghz (Overclocked to 2.9)
Western Digital 80GB (Master)
Western Digital 250GB (Slave)
Ati RADEON 9600XT

Adrian - have you looked at msconfig to see what is loading on startup. Perhaps there is an errant program. When you run norton or defrag, does it say your drive is fragmented. Other than that I would have to say virus or spyware proram running rampant.

The problem I am having with XP is that it will, after 1-2 hours, is completely out of memory, and begins to shut down programs because "Virtual memory is too low". Also, when I shut down, it arrives at the "logging off" screen within a few seconds, but will then be "Logging off" for 10-12 minutes before finally shutting down.

It began last week when I installed some drivers from Dell and updates from Windows. Before that time, I could go days without restarting, running Firefox w/8-10 tabs, Outlook w/ Word editor, along with numerous apps running from startup.

When I start in Safe mode, it shuts down fine. I have run AVG full scan, Spybot full scan, Adaware full scan, and evenSDFix suggested in other threads.

Any suggestions and help would be much appreciated. If any more info is needed, please feel free to ask.

TIA

After I reformatted my hard drive, it's been taking longer to copy files. When I transfer music from iTunes to my iPod, it takes longer than it would've before the reformat. Also, when I copy files from and to my external hard drive, that takes longer. For example, it would take about 1 min or less to copy a 700 mb .avi movie file from my computer to the external hdd. But now, it takes about 4~5 min. I never installed or downloaded anything that would purposely expedite the process. Plus, since this hard drive has no viruses (100% sure), and more available memory, I would assume a faster process.
Any suggestions or ideas?
Thanks

If I switch to safe mode it boots the first time. The next try however it goes right back to the failure.

Hey,

My laptop is an Asus G74-SX running Windows 7 Home Premium 64

Specs

12gb Ram
1.5 TB HDD
i7 quad core
Gtx 560m (3gb dedicated)

My computer randomly freezes (even as I was writing this post it froze for a while and i had to wait for it to come back to life). I am not sure why this is happening as it has been great for over a year. Also the when I put it to SLEEP (not hybrid or hibernation) it takes a LONG time (over 2 mins to hours).

I have restarted my computer 5 times yesterday and a couple times today, because it just stops working. If i open Task manager I get (NOT RESPONDING).. which has only happened this week.. not sure why.

Even by right clicking on My Computer to see my specs all I can see is
Installed Memory: Not Available (Should say 12gb)
Processor: Not Available (should say 2.0ghz)

it's happened twice that Windows Explorer is not responding (as in the windows viewer not the browser)

I am running 2013 AVG Free Anit Virus - and it's never been an issue.

Please help!

Hello All-

My Laptop (running XP) will boot up to the login screen (which now takes about 5 minutes when it used to be less than 1 minute). Once I enter my login information and hit enter -- it stalls for about 5 minutes and then returns to the "ctrl-alt-del login screen".

I have 2 "profiles" and can successfully log in to one under the administrator login -- but I don't get a start button and the windows look "different". For example, the expand/minimize/close buttons when I run the task manager look more like how I remember windows screens looking years ago -- if that makes any sense.

Any ideas?

I have just recently installed a printer (BROTHER DCP-145C) and when trying to open 'My Computer' it takes forever ( approximately 2 - 5 minutes) to display anything I've already tried
-stopping the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)
-Unchecking the box 'Automatically search for network folders and printers
-Disconnecting the printer

and none of them have worked, I have had this problem once before but I forget how I solved it that time it would be greatly appreciated if you could help.

EDIT - I managed to fix it myself by fragmenting the hard drive and cleaning the registry, probably should have thought to do that before asking this question but whatever.

Im not even sure if it CAN boot, to be honest. It hasn't done so yet, just stays on the loading screen. I have spent all night trying literally evrything to get rid of this whatever you want to call it. After absolutely nothing else worked, I downloaded TDSSFix and it detected nothing. I turned off the computer and started it up normally, and it told me something about needing a type of boot to work. I have no idea why I decided toturn off my laptop before removing it, but I did and now it won't boot. I am seriously considering giving up and smashing the computer because this is way too stressful for me right now. Can someone please, in a way that's as simple as possible, explain to me what I need to do to get this all to stop?

Hey all,

For some reason, and this just began recently, my computer has begun taking FOREVER when I shutdown/restart it. I shut it down about 30 minutes ago to open it up and clean the dust out and I timed it. I was waiting at the blue "Windows is shutting down" screen for 5 minutes and 15 seconds!

I don't know what is wrong, I haven't changed anything recently that should have cause this, not to my knowledge anyways. The only things that I can think of that I did recently was upgrade my video card to a ATI Radeon 9600XT (install fine, works fine, no shutdown problems for the first 4 days I've had it) and set my page file to be cleared on shutdown.

Now I thought that this last one was the problem for sure, but to test it I shut down the computer, rebooted to log in screen, then shut down again immediately before logging in (so the page file shouldn't have been full) and it still took forever.

Does anyone have any ideas?

For the past month my computer has gone downhill. First of all by having a very inconsistent internet speed. I know that my computer is the problem because my roommate doesn't have any problems with the connection. I also noticed that it has been slower and slower... and today I tried shutting it down and it took about 3 to 4 minutes to complete. Being confused, I opened it up again and shut it down again to see, with the same result.

I'm using an Acer Extensa with a double core (2x 1.8 ghz) and 3 gigs or rams.
