I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:L440 graphics card upgrade

Good day and welcome to the community.

As with most every laptop, the graphics subsystem is either integrated with the CPU package, or if it's an actual discrete GPU, soldered to the system board. In some cases a particular machine may have been offered with either integrated or discrete graphics. In that instance, a machine with integrated graphics might be upgraded via a system board swap.

Looking at pg2 of the L440 FRU Parts List: https://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/l440_fru_list_20140825.pdf
you'll see main two types of system boards. One is "Integrated Graphics 4600" and the other is "nVdia N14M-GE with 1GB", so you do have that option, but it could be costly.

You can refer to the hardware manual: https://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/l440_l540_hmm_en_sp40a26004_03.pdf
to get an idea of the physical task.

Hope this helps to clarify.
Regards.

Hi, I am trying to connect a Sony HVR-V1E camera to my PC so I bought a PCI-Express card to add firewire ports to my computer. The device installed ok and the camera shows a little symbol on the screen to confirm that the cable is connected but the PC is not seeing the camera.

I realise this could be a lot of things but I am thinking it might be that the PCI Express card needs to be powered, does anyone know if this is likely to be the case? If it is then what is the name of the connection shown below and where would it be plugged in to?

Thank you

A:Solved: PCI Express firewire card not working

It's a 4 pin Molex connector, you should have several matching connectors coming out of your PSU. Plug one of them into it, they will only go in one way round and can be quite stiff so to avoid damaging the card I would take the card out first, attach the Molex then re-connect the card.

I'm using a Dell Inspiron 1750 bought in 2009 running Windows Vista. I upgraded to Windows 7 OS. I need to find a Fireward card that fits into the port on the side of my laptop so that I can hook a video camera and download movies. When I pop the plastic card out it's NOT 1 straight edge but it's offset - 1 part of the plastic cards goes deeper than the other side. Does anyone know what type of Firewire card I need to buy and will it be compatible with Vista/Windows 7?

Hi all, I have a Thinkpad L440 with 4GB of RAM.I want to upgrade it and I have two questions:1. Is it OK to add 8GB (so I will have 12GB in total) or it would be better to add 4GB in order to have two similar SODIMMs?2. Are there any known incompatibilities for specific brands? I found two SODIMMs from Kingston (part numbers KVR16S11/8 and KVR16LS11/8) and one from Crucial (part number CT102464BF160B). All are clocked at 1600MHz. Thanks in advance,E. PS: I beleive that I can upgrade the RAM without voiding the warranty, can't I?

A:thinkpad l440 cpu upgrade?

If you do it yourself it will certainly be cheaper, but the CPU is not considered customer-replaceable, so it may affect your warranty status. If you can do the replacement in a professional manner, so it doesn't look worked on, probably nobody will complain, as long as you keep the old part and replace it back before getting service. The FRU of the i7-4600m is 04X4049. You do not want to get one marked "ES" (engineering sample). The ES parts may not be final versions

PCI and pciExpress are two different things. But no worries, you have an AGP8x slot and there are still plenty of decent cards for AGP, including that X850XT you are looking at.

Having some trouble putting a PCI Express graphics card into an 8000 Elite CMT.  It's a Radeon HD7950 and I've already noticed a couple of issues: 1) The Power supply isn't large enough. I've read a few issues where the PSU in 8000 CMT's has a different chassis size to standard PSU's. 2) The motherboard doesn't have the required 6-pin PCI Express power connectors. I guess upgrading the PSU to one that has the requried power and has seperate PCI Express power connectors will solve the issue, can anyone confirm that this can be done with an 8000 CMT? ThanksGareth

I've inherited an HP Elitebook, which has beefed-up security features commensurate with a business-class laptop.

I don't have any real secrets to protect other than credit card numbers and such, and I know how to avoid those risks. I've been playing around with this machine's security features just to learn how to use them and to see how well I can button down the machine in case I ever have to do it for real..

I understand the potential problems with a cold boot attack to capture the Bitlocker key, and so am using two-factor authentication -- a fingerprint and a password to open the TPM. Another password to start up Windows and a screensaver password. I understand that the Bitlocker key is still in system memory when the computer is sleeping, so the machine is set up to use hibernation rather than sleep if I don't want to turn it off completely.

All the normal things a prudent user would enable on a less-expensive laptop are in place -- firewall, A/V, etc. No sense worrying about whether the NSA has a backdoor into Bitlocker.

Pause here for the first question -- any gaping security holes so far?

I've also read about the flaw in which system memory can be accessed and the Bitlocker key read through the Firewire port and the PCExpress port, both of which this machine has. That's only when the computer is awake or asleep..

Second question: I use Firewire very rarely and PCExpress cards not at all. Could I block this potential security... Read more

I upgraded to Windows 10 yesterday. Everything seems fine except my Focusrite Saffire Firewire audio interface will no longer work. It worked fine under Windows 7. I've installed the legacy 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller, uninstalled and reinstalled the driver for the device. During the driver installation it prompts me to connect the firewire cable to the device. After that is says waiting for the firmware to boot but it times out. Then says upgrade the firmware which click OK on then it says no device connected. The device is connected and getting power. I've read conflicting reports about Windows 10 firewire support. Any ideas? Thanks.

A:Windows 10 upgrade with Firewire issue

Howdy, I am in the same boat with a Saffire Pro 40.  Did all the steps you mentioned and no joy.  Had to roll back to Win7.  I talked to Focusrite this morning and they don't have any known issues - tech support guy said he had a win 10 machine working with a Pro 26 right next to him. So it seems situational but it feels like a bug.  It may take some time for MS and manufacturers to sort out specific issues.  I signed up here just in case this thread produces some leads.  Cheers.

Hi there.
I'll tell you something right off the bat : Windows do work with Firewire but! It's a hit or miss. I've seen a case where Windows 7 will not recognize a HDV cassette in a firewire device... it would only recognize it as a DV cassette. I suggest you to purchase a capture card for Windows if possible with your device.

Otherwise, if you plan doing a lot of that in the near future, I would go for... *gulp* a Mac. Firewire was born for that platform. Or so it seem. Never worked with a Mac and Firewire.

Otherwise...

Hi, I've just got a firewire card to use with my laptops, its an ST-Lab 1394a 32-bit PCMCIA Type II Carbus Adapter with 3 six pin firewire 400 ports. Ive plugged it into my IBM T41 and it works fine connected to my camcorder, but when I plug it into my HP 530 nothing happens, nothing at all, no beeps, no messages. I've plugged the card in on its own with no cables plugged in to it.

The HP 530 is brand new and both laptops are running XP pro SP3. In the device manager on the HP, the driver for the PCMCIA adapter seems to have no problems, it's Generic CardBus Controller Version 5.1.2600.0 and it says the device is working properly.

I've looked on the HP website for a PCMCIA driver but there's nothing there. On the ST-Lab website the product page for the card CB-FW1394 (VIA 6306L) it says it doesn't require a driver. There is jack on the card for a power adapter, I don't know if this makes any difference.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do next cos I'm completely stumped.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers Mark

A:Firewire card works on T41 but not on HP 530

I think I'm getting there. On the IBM T41 I have a different driver installed for the PCMCIA cardbus.
I've managed to find a VIA OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller driver which should work on the HP 530 but I can't install it because windows says the version I have already is the most up to date. I've tried uninstalling the current driver but then I can't find an option to manually install my driver. If I use the add hardware wizard it just automatically installs its own driver without asking me.

Don't know how the hell to get this old driver installed.

Is there any way to stop windows automatically installing drivers when I scan for new hardware?

Hello all. About 4 or 5 months ago I posted a lot of messages on a thread about Pinnacle Studio 7 not working. The problem was when I went to output the finished project to my camera (Sony DCR-TRV730), the picture would keep freezing and make a blue screen on my camera.

Now, I got Adobe Premier, and it does the same thing. Upon playback of my finshed project, it freezes throughout the project, and makes a blue screen.

Could this be due to a faulty camera or firewire card? Is there software update I would need for my firewire card?

Any help would be much appreciated as I have a project to do on Premier.

Hello,

I recently got a firewire/ieee 1394 card for my PC (to connect a camcorder) and I installed the card without any issues but it didn't come with any driver software. I'm running XP but it was pre-installed so I don't have any of the discs to find a driver on there. I've searched for literally hours online looking for a driver - I've never had a problem finding one before but I can't find anything.

Can anyone help me locate a driver - free or otherwise?

Alternatively does anyone know of a firewire to usb convertor? A quick google search makes this look unlikely but maybe someone here knows better?

Any help is gratefully received - I've been trying to do this as a favour for a friend but it's been going on for weeks and is all going horribly wrong!

Thank you

Edit: As soon as I posted this I realised it should probably be in software, not hardware. Sorry, Mods feel free to move!

I have recently purchased a firewire 3-port PCI Card from Belkin. It's successful installed on my computer, as it appears as "Unibrain 1394 FireNet Adapter" under Device Manager, yet when I attempt to connect my video camera the computer cannot access it. The camera is a Sony DCR-HC85 and says "DC In" on it, implying that it is properly connected to the computer.

What is wrong with my firewire card?

I am technologically challenged and need to install a firewire/ilink pci card in my Dell Dimension 8250 desktop PC. There appears to be two empty PCI slots but I don't know how to remove the metal covers. They seem to be locked in place by a strip of blue plastic. No screws. Am I supposed to snap (or at least try to) off the plastic?

Quite amazngly, you can find the instructions with pretty pictures in your Owner's Manual: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim8250/K0004bk0.pdf

I am looking for a firewire 800 add-on card for my current system. I'm not looking for "budget" or "cheap," I just want something very reliable and robust for Windows 7 x64 (and Vista x64). What firewire 800 cards have you all found to work well in Windows 7 x64 and Vista x64 (both are Home Premium)?

I have a 1 PCI and 1 PCIe(x4) slot open. I don't know if these are 32-bit or 64-bit - if someone can shed light on that, also. Thanks in advance.

Installed a Belkin 3-Port PCI Express card last night. Seems to be working fine. I've got 2 devices hooked to it at the moment and haven't had any problems. Be aware that one of the 3 ports gets closed inside the PC cabinet.

Hello-
I just installed a PCMCIA/IEEE 1394 sub-card from a Thinkpad A31P into my non-firewire equipped A31. Can anyone tell me how to get Windows XP to recognize it? The card slots are working fine, but the firewire port doesn't work.

Thanks

I just installed a new PCI 1394 FireWire card. I followed the instructions given with the card, and had no problems. After I turned on my computer I attempted to use the port and upload video. A program I was using said that there was no sign of a device attached.

I looked at my device manager and saw that there was no sign of a PCI firwire card installed. After not seeing this I reviewed my installation steps and found nothing that I did out of place. Nor did I find that I forgot any steps.

I have tried many different attempts to install the card via the "install new hardware" feature in the control pannel. But I found no luck there or anywhere else.

Can someone please tell me how I can install the card or get it to show up??

Thanks for your time,
kurt

Do any of you have any experience/opinion about these? I have been searching and reading reviews about them. I have come across several bad opinions/comments, but they seem to be configuration issues on the part of the user. I have not had my box open in a while...........no hardware problems. I have USB1.1 now, but I'm looking to upgrade to make the best use of a "thumb-drive" type device. I really don't have an immediate need for Firewire, but I figured it would be helpful some time, so why not?
Or would I be better to add just the USB2.0 now and do the Firewire later if needed. I have the PCI space to do that. I'm somewhat concerned about IRQ issues either way.

Also, should I remove the 1.1 card and "replace" it?
I'm trying to avoid problems.........It seems much easier that way

Hi, my problem is with a firewire card which is failing to work !

I have a Nisis 4 port(one internal) PCI firewire card and for the last month or so it has
stopped working. (it worked for a good few months before this on this computer).
in device manager i see the yellow alert next to the device and the error code :

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

So when cameras are connected etc. there is no response.
In my own attempts to solve the problem i have :

disabled and re-enabled the device
uninstalled and reinstalled the device
physically removed the device and reinstalled it back into the machine
i have searched for drivers but there are none which i can find (either from the
Nisis website or alternative sources)
Does anybody know of any drivers or any advice that might be useful to solve this problem!?
any help is very muhc appreciated and i shall respond quickly to your own queries and
questions about my problem if need be.

Here is some information about the device (as seen in device manager) :

VIA OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller

Device Type: IEEE 1934 Bus Host Controllers
Manufacturer : VIA
Location : PCI Slot 3 (PCI bus 4, device 2, function 0)

( Device Status : This device cannot start. (Code 10) )

Not sure if this is a hardware question, or an OS question... I'll try OS.
I have an older computer P3-600, soyo 6ya (?) motherboard. OS is WIN2K pro, installed cleanly about 2 months ago. At the time I got all the updates/fixes from the MS web site, so I chould be fairly up-to-date.

I bought a combo USB2.0/Firewire card (seems to be simply called an ALI combo card). Has 5 USB2.0 and 3 Firewire ports. When I install the card in certain PCI slots, the PC seems to hang after I log in (as administrator to install the HW). In other slots is comes up OK. It see's the hardware, and "installs" drivers for it. It came with a CD that contains drivers for win95->winXP. I run it, the drivers install, and then I'm told to reboot. I do. When I go into "device manager" under "hardware" there are now a bunch of "problems" with all the new USB objects, and the Firewire one.

The message comes up "Error code 12, not enough resources for this device to operate correctly". I tried running the trouble shooter button, and all it seems to suggest is that I need to re-boot (there are no listed conflicts, or resource issues....). I tried shutting off the on board USB1.1 controller, and I removed the plug in PCI Modem. Even with both of these out of the system, the card still has "no resources to use...."

Sounds like windows can't deal with USB2.0.... or something.

Thanks

Well, some diging around I think it might be a drivers issue. But since I have the driver CD from ALI I'm not sure why I'm having these problems.

Uhg!
