How do I change size/color of one or two desktop icons?

Q: How do I change size/color of one or two desktop icons?

When I turn on the computer, I want a few shortcut icons to be very prominent with color and size so I can find them easily and poke them with my finger on the touchscreen.

Question 1 (the title^)

Question 2: In general, if you want to save all the windows you are currently using and be able to open them all up within a few clicks later, what are the best options to do this? So say you have an excel file, a word doc, and some internet browser windows all related to one of your projects and you want to access all of those later without having to find them. What are your options to do this?

Preferred Solution: How do I change size/color of one or two desktop icons?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

hack into my own computer

Dear compatriots,

I tried the trick of changing the desktop to black and then orange, but that didn't work. The font is still white. Now, you may be asking yourselves why should I spend so much time on an issue so trivial?

Well, the answer is, I get caught up in details. I have been searching all through the regedit, and can't find where the color for the font is edited. I found a color section, but it doesn't have icon font listed. Does anyone know where I could go to edit the code to change the font? I am a novice code person, and am relatively technologically inept, but I can change some code around if its fairly simple.

Please help me on my quest to change the font.

Thank you for your time,

My words are now written in black and I have a dark desktop, so I word like to change the words to be written in white. Is this possible?

I didn't have a clue where to put this, so please bear with me.
When using Firefox and maybe even in IE, I've observed that
many fonts are a light grey color making it very hard to read.

I have gone into the tools of Firefox and unchecked the
"allow pages to choose their own colors" and that does
give black fonts, but at the cost of losing other colors
on a web page.

How can I get rid of these light grey colored fonts and use
black fonts when on the internet while still maintaining colors ?

I am having real trouble with trying to get it so I am not straining, or squinting my eyes on my new w7. It is not a new screen. I have concluded that I have very sensitive eyes to resolution as my old computer was set on a low resolution and I had no problem with vision.
Now it is at 1280x1024 and I have played with the font sizes etc and tried lowering the brightness etc, and I still am having eye troubles. I can't use a laptop or watch 3D movies for very long as I get that same eye problem.
Also, no matter what I do, the welcome page with the user acct icons are so small! I am sure missing the look of xp now. I never had to do anything for it.
Oh and it is a Dell 17" lcd couple of years old if that makes any difference.

Hi you all:

I got a new HP Workstation with Win-7 Pro and coming from XP I'm in the learning period.

I found it once but now it's lost; the place where in the Advanced Tab, you get to resize and change fonts and personalize colors like in the Menu or Windows Text, Active or Inactive Bars, etc

Also, I am unable to manually make disappear the Taskbar, except if I use the Auto Disappear feature.

My eyes are failing and I need to enhance this PC so as to get the last juice from my eyes...
I already changed elsewhere to a High Contrast (White Text on a Black Background), but it does not work well with all programs, ie "Open Office 4.01)..._

And I've messed around so much trying to fix it myself (before asking for help) 'cuz I'm sure it's simple, that now I'm not sure I can remember what I did just before the problem showed up or what I've done to 'try' to correct it. My 1st shot, even tho' blurred, will show that the 'text color' below each icon was white & easy for me to read. The 2nd, after it changed, shows the color more blackish, harder to read. I also think there's a bit of difference in background color? I also messed that up again just before I came to post but didn't think to get a shot.

I know there are some issues with my PC (mainly the idiot sitting here typing) but there's no way I can do a 'reinstall' which seems to be the posted answer so many times when I read other posts.

Friends I need your help.
I have one [and only one] Windows 8.1 laptop system in a production environment that insists on randomly rearranging desktop icons. There are 2 other laptops in the same office, configured in much the same fashion, plugged into large desktop monitors the same way, that do not exhibit this evil vile behavior. I don't know what is causing it nor how to remedy.

none of the three has dedicated GPU: all are recent vintage systems using variants of intel HD "gpu"s: one lenovo, one hp, one acer [the troubled one]. the only diff is that the problem laptop gets picked up and taken away sometimes. I noticed myself that if I open the lid and boot up the system I'll get a different look to the desktop than when plugged in to the monitor [other than the obvious scaling adjustments]. Icons will move and change appearance, sometimes scaling differently than other times. there is NO auto-arranging selected, no snap to grid. like most people, the user very much needs to set the icons manually and have them remain stable.

any ideas what is going on or how to remedy?

Recently, I installed a new monitor to my laptop and was fiddling around with the new monitor's icon sizes. It seemed fine initially, but once I decided to disconnect and revert back to my laptop's monitor, the icon's sizes were off. Some were small, whilst others were large. The smaller ones did not change with re-sizing (manual nor using CTRL + scroll).

Furthermore, restarting the computer made further changes. A couple of the icons that were originally large became small, but none grew.

Is there anything I can do? There must be a way to reset, or something similar.

Hey everyone! Long time no see!

Okay, so a friend of my dad told him that he used to see the folder icons and labels in the left pane of Outlook 2007 in a bigger font/size before switching to a new computer with Windows 7. Obviously, we all know that upgrading Windows won't change font sizes that are coded into independent programs, so I'm thinking that maybe his old computer was running at a lower resolution. Anywho, my dad's friend asked my dad to ask me this question, and since I don't use Office 2007 anymore, I need to ask you: is there a way to change the size of the folder icons and labels in the left pane of Outlook 2007, without changing the size of anything else?

Not sure about Outlook 2007 as I've been on 2910 for a while now but if you go to the file - options - advanced and check out the options for the navigation pane there should be a font button - change this to something more appropriate to your needs andthis will not alter the other panes

If would also appear that the icons expand to match your font choice

But the icons size on both desktop and taskbar is rather bigger in Win7. (Text size is just fine). I could not resize the same icon size as in Win XP. I tried to change but 9 point Segoe UI at 96pixels per inch is default in Win7. The scale to the percentage of normal size is 100% or above, not less than 100%. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Hello again,

Recently, I wanted to know how to transfer an old favorite icon to a new link website and put it on the desktop. Thanks to everyones help, I was able to do this.

Now I have another related problem.

I am trying to increase the size of the desktop icons. I am not talking about the traditional method of holding the Crtl key and moving the mouse wheel or going to a certain place and selecting small, medium, or large icons. These methods increase the size of all of your icons.

Rather, I have found a way to increase the size of icons individually using a program I bought (Image Icon Converter) which allows you to select different sizes and then using Windows Photo Gallery to paste the new icon to the desktop.

Having done this, I wish to create desktop links to websites for these larger icons. Unfortunately, I cannot get the old link to transfer to the new, larger icon. Everytime I try, it will not show me anything in the Properties box of the larger icon for changing icons. This does not surprise me because the new, larger icon is simply a larger image of an icon created from Windows Photo Gallery. My problem here would be to find a way to manipulate this icon.

And when I try to create a new desktop website link and switch icons to what I prefer, it keeps reverting back to the same old, small icon.

So I have these two avenues to try and change icons and neither one of them is working. Can someone help me solve these problems or find a new way to ... Read more

A:Desktop icons still won't increase in size

What is the filetype of the new larger icons? If it isn't .ico, try saving it as an .ico file and then attempt the second method of selecting it as the icon for the created shortcut and see if that works. If it does, then you would want to find a special place to save these icons (not the desktop) and reference that location and choose the appropriate icon when you create desktop shortcuts to internet sites (or any other type of shortcut for that matter).

From the following Shortcut Folder or File Icon Change it seems that created icons only work right in Medium View (though that is admittedly a different way of creating the icons and not a special program designed for that purpose or even close to the method you are using). This article talks about converting to .ico files using the simple Paint program (but I see from the web site that your program supports .ico).

Another thing to consider is I just visited convert Image to Icon, bmp to ico, gif to ico, jpg to ico which is what I think you got and I note that Vista is NOT included in the list of supported operating systems - and that may have something to do with why you're having problems. The process seems simple enough convert gif to Icon, picture to icon, gif to icon, jpg to icon but again on that page as well, it does NOT include Vista as being suported. I checked the Vista Compatibility Center and the program isn't listed (which just means it wasn't tested but that often also means it isn't compatible). I do ... Read more

Hello! Yes, I'm a newbie and a numpty. This place looks wonderful! I hope you can help me.

Here's what happened: I reinstalled Windows for my sister, who is visually impaired. I just installed Windows XP Pro. Just finished it, and then handed it over to her, to customize her settings. Since she has bad vision, she usually lowers the resolution down to 800x600 and has the font size and title bar sizes larger. Well as soon as I left her alone with her computer, she messed up the windows or icon settings so bad, so everything is HUGE. Everything is so huge, that (what should be) small menus now fill the whole screen. We can't get to the part of the preferences window to change the resolution to something higher, and we can't get to anywhere (that we know of) to change anything back to something resembling normal. Basically, we can't do anything anymore.

I know I can reinstall Windows XP all over again, but since I JUST DID THAT I'd like to avoid having to do it all over again. Is there some way to reset the preferences, without having to reinstall the whole operating system for something so seemingly idiotic? Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

get into "safe mode" hold F8 key down soon as pc starts to reboot highlight top menu when the safe mode window opens tap enter once in safe mode boot up, you should be able to access the resolution settings and reset those..to the one you require..
