No sound from 2 rear speakers on a surround sound setting

Q: No sound from 2 rear speakers on a surround sound setting

re JAL Cb 2800VS system running Win Xp Home- Altec Lansing 251 speakers- surround sound

"I bought this system 4 months ago. i am concerned that I may not be getting the full 5.1 sound. When I went to play a DVD film with the bass woofer speaker set to 6 the 2 rear speakers produced no sound. It is only when i switch back to 2/4 setting that they work but I suspect are just duplicating the front L& R speakers to simulate surround sound.

Is it anything to do with how i have wired them up. the back of the base unit doesnt correspond to the 251 system booklet. The 3 top vertical connections ( back of base unit) are marked ( from the top) cntr/lfe pink; rear purple, s/pdif-yellow. The leads are unhelpfully BLUE, GREEN and YELLOW so do not match. Also the yellow jack is too small to take any lead.

The horizontal set of 3 below are coloured yellow ,green and blue! Yellow has a microphone symbol, green has a " tree" symbol above it as has the blue.

Help please so that I can get all the speakers working as they should with the sub woofer switch in 6 channel position"

Well I sent this email to the PC supplier and talked to them on the phone. they confirmed that connections OK and sound card fitted to operate 5.1.channl sound.
Checked Sound properties in Control panel and even the test zone dialogue box tests all 5 speakers as OK but still no sound from rear speakers on the 6 channel position.
All they could offer was for me to send speakers back to them for replacement. Before I do this i am wondering if there is anything else I could try. It seems like an odd gremlin if it is a faulty channel switch on the sub woofer?

help anyone

many thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've been using the onboard audio/sound from my motherboard on my XP desktop for the past 4 years. I bought a 5.1 surround sound set of speakers from Logitech (x-530) about 3 years ago, but only used the FL, FR, and subwoofer, because my mobo doesn't support surround sound -- it doesn't have the rear / center+subwoofer jacks that my speakers need to plug into.

Today I bought a Dynex 5.1 sound card from Best Buy ($30) -- opened my tower, popped the sound card into an available port, installed the drivers from the CD, restarted the computer, set the output to 5.1 in the Sounds and Audio Devices window from the control panel, in the "Audio Deck" (the software that came with the card) I set it to 6 channel, made sure all of the speakers were plugged into the subwoofer which connects to the front-right speaker, and plugged the green, black, and orange plugs from the FR speaker into the proper jacks on the sound card, turned some test music on....

And it's just coming out of the same two front speakers and the subwoofer like it was when I was running just the mobo audio. I've tried a few DVDs with PowerDVD but likewise, the sound is not coming out of the rear or center speakers. Then again I'm using the free version, I think. At least, under the audio tab in configurations it doesn't have any settings that specify surround, just 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, or 8 speakers. I tried each setting, but there's never any sound coming from the... Read more

A:5.1 surround troubles -- rear speakers not playing sound

Dynex is not a company known for quality in their products, so it may be simply that the sound card is of poor build quality. However, I think it is more likely that you simply do not have any surround capable games or programs. Since these programs do not support surround sound, nothing will come out of the rear speakers. I have experienced this problem with my Logitech X-540s when I use a program with no surround support.

Hi everyone.
I have an issue when trying to connect my 5.1 surround speakers to my onboard soundcard, the Rear speakers (black hookup) do not work.
In the windows sound settings the speakers show up as Side speakers (gray hookup) and so when I perform the windows sound test the rear speakers not not make a sound.
I have tried many things, updating sound drivers from Realtek, uninstall install.
Updating drivers from HP and updating from Windows update.
Tried plugging and unlpugging cables to see if Windows would recognize them differntly.
The speakers work I tested them with a different desktop and also when I plug in the Rear (black) cable into the Side (gray) cable then I have 5.1.
I also changed the Hz format from 44 - 192.
When I try to go into the sound configuration the only available options to check off are with Front Center Side and Rear is grayed out with 5.1 but when I check 7.1 I can check and uncheck all speakers.
I have spoke to HP and I have spoke to Microsoft many times. Time to reach out to the forums!
I have had this issue on this desktop twice already on two different desktops. The first time I automatically upgraded to Windows 10 which I then blamed the sound issue on, or faulty hardware on the motherboard. So I went and got a identical desktop so it is a brand new desktop first start up and same issue.
-------------Sorry for the long post but I am realy frustrated and I know its a simple configuration issue somewhere

So as the title says, I have set up a surround sound system using 2 sets of speakers. The first set is set up as the front speakers in the realtek audio manager, and the second set is set up as rear speakers. I have it set up as 7.1 with no sides, subwoofer, or center speakers. Front, left, and right is checked, as well as surround sound. The sub is on my front speakers, and works fine. The rear speakers however get absolutely no bass, only treble, and sound super tinny and terrible. The speakers are fine, and work and sound great if there set as front speakers. What's the problem? I originally had another subwoofer/speaker combo hooked up as the rear, but the subwoofer didn't vibrate at all. I thought maybe I should just hook up some normal speakers with built in subs. Same thing though, they just sound terrible. I also have dolby home theater on, and if I shut it off the rear speakers don't even work when playing music. They work if I click the speaker icon in realtek.

A:surround sound with 2 sets of speakers, no bass from rear

In many cases if you don't have an actual 5.1 or 7.1 system you can't "assemble" a surround system, or a system that works properly. In a surround system, there are three connections to the PC's audio and they go to the main unit (bass speaker) that has amplifiers and sound distribution.

Trying to duplicate that with separate speaker systems can result in problems such as you are encountering.

I bought 5.1 sound system and JVC receiver, connected to PC via S/PDIF... All components work(play sound) but the problem is that for example in game when i must hear something behind me, i hear it from the front speakers... left/cntr/right balance works fine but rear/front.... the receiver adjusts the mode to 'LINEAR PCM' automatic and the mode goes to 'DOLBY DIGITAL' only in sound options, where i can test the DD... when i test it everything`s great... i can hear every single speaker playing alone for itself but thats only from the test ... in the applications i hear the sound not 5.1 but 3.1 ... the rear speaker work but they work at the same time with the front... And so... any ideas how to adjust the thing correctly to have a nice surround sound ... is it from soundcard or maybe some codecs(driver`s are the latest btw) or maybe some options on the receiver i dont know ...can i make somehow the receiver to work in DD mode all the time or it make`s it only automatic... i don`t know I just want to hear sound from behind when someone talks behind me sound Realtek HD audio ... pls help

Hey guys I just got my speakers and when trying to set them up music would not play out of the center speakers or the 2 back speakers.
I fixed it by using speaker fill but it is not proper surround sound
My computer supports the speakers because using VIA HD Audio Deck I am able to play the annoying sound though all 5 speakers and the sub
But without speaker fill it wont play anything though them

Is there any way to have real surrond sound or is speaker fill my only option?

if yes, most likely you will need to enable the 'upmix' feature of VIA. I'm not sure what is it called, but in Realtek it is called Realtek Speaker Fill or Dolby ProLogic IIx. If there isn't any, you may want to try Channel Mixer for foobar2000.

A:Solved: sound help setting up 5.1 surround sound

You only have 2 Channel audio.

You can use the Matrix(Surrround) button on the speakers to get audio from all the speakers when using only a 2 channel input but its not as good as having true 6 channel output from the PC.

Or you can buy a Creative Live! Or Audigy card such as this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16829102003

A:No Sound in 2 Rear speakers

This is the Dell users/setup manual for the speakers. Documentation

There has been a change in color coding for 5.1 speakers, compare what Dell shows to what you have on your new PC.

Also, check the Speaker Configuration in the Sound Panel, in the Control Panel, and verify you have 5.1 speakers selected.

I reeeeeally hope someone can sort me out on this one as I have tried everything and can't seem to get my sound card working again. Foolishly, I tried to update the drivers this morning and that went wrong so I've spent all day trying to reinstall and get my new 5.1 speakers working properly with my Audigy 2 (SB0240) soundcard. I've managed to get the creative audio consoles to work with my speaker system - diagnostic tests show that sound does come from all 6 speakers (albiet, the front left and right are A LOT quieter - which I suspect is being caused by the main problem) but only the front 2 channels (left and right) are shown to be working within windows' own sound and devices manager. i.e. it only shows volume controls for left and right speaker, even though under advanced, the speakers are set to 5.1 surround speakers.

Creative's audio console has got the tick on the box, "syncronise with windows control panel" however, it's clearly not doing. Creative works fine (although slightly quieter out of left and right channels) whereas windows believes there to be only 2 speakers attached, even though there are 5.1 plugged in and selected. What's going on?!

The only way to get sound out of all 6 is to use Creative's CMSS features, which upscales media to 5/6.1 from 2 channel audio, however, it was working fine this morning with CMSS switched off, so I think the problem (as per usual) lies with Windows Control Panel.

Hey there. For some reason I can't get any sound to play from my computer to my rear speakers. It works find when I run a test from the speakers, but not if I run a test from the computer. I have an X-Fi Elite (I Think, either way it's X-Fi) hooked up via optical cable to the front bay, and I have Logitec Z-5500 speakers. When I run the test from the X-Fi control panel/wizard/diagnostics, when it says "Rear right, rear left", it comes out in the front right/left speakers. Also the sub-woofer test doesn't work either; it comes out through the center speaker. I've uninstalled/reinstalled the drivers and what not a couple times but to no avail. Everything is wired correctly; the test on the speaker system itself works fine. Any ideas why this is happening?

Hi all,

I hope I've put this in the right place...

First time poster, so please let me know if I need to include anymore information other than what I've written.

I recently installed Windows Vista (and SP1) onto my homebuilt computer. When I was running XP, all was good, but now I'm finding that I don't get sound out of my rear speakers.

My specs
MOBO DFI Corp,LTD LP NF4 Series 1.0
Sound Card Creative SB Live! series
On Board Sound Card NVIDIA(R) nForce(TM) Audio
Speakers Creative Inspire 5.1 5300

When I go into control panel - Sounds - Configure (SB card in 5.1 mode) I get sound out of the Front left, Front right, and sub, but when the rear speakers and centre sounds go off they come through the front left and right instead. I'm certain I have the speakers plugged in correctly.
I've tried asking windows to update the sound card driver, and I'm told that it is up to date.

When I try control panel - sounds - configure (with the onboard sound output) I don't have the option for 5.1 - only stereo speakers and I don't know how to change that. Both sound outputs seem to have the same coloured plugs.

I hope I've been clear.

Thanking you all in advance,

5.1 Sound issues [ISSUE SOLVED]

Hey guys,

I recently reformatted my computer, and after a lot of issues (dead HDD and RAM) i finally got it working again.
Today i went to start putting my drivers and stuff back on for things and when i got to sound i ran the program as normal and setup everything.
The windows sound scheme is set to 5.1 surround.
The program that comes with the s/c allows me to select 5.1 and press apply, but when i press apply it doesnt actually work.

Whenever i play music, all im getting is my rear 2 speakers. Not even the nobs on my subwoofer (rear speaker control) will allow me to turn them down.
All cables are in the correct ports so i know this is not an issue.

Any ideas?

Card is a C-Media one i think. It doesn't have like specific brand though, i think the chip is cmedia and the card is AudioExcel.

Need any other info, let me know

We just picked up my son's new computer today, he got the Asus

We're not getting anything from the rears and before we bring it back I need to know if there really is a problem?

Well... Normally recorded (stereo) sound shouldn't play in surround (Quadro), but the soundcard software has some enhacements. You can enable some settings to manipulate sone Surround effects from a simple MP3 (evem mono ones )

A friend of mine said all this was possible, but I want to make sure he knows what he's saying!

A:5.1 computer surround sound speakers use for TV?

The problem with the TV is that it has no way of accepting that many channels unless the connections are already there. Each one of those connections represents another part of the surround sound, and if there are only two outputs (left and right or red and white) then the best you can do is stereo. Unfortunately a headphone jack on a laptop is in the same boat as as dual rca outs on a tv...it's a stereo (2 channel) output. Buying a soundcard for the laptop is the only way I can think of that will solve this issue.

I bought a technika 5.1 surround sound system that does not work.
In the subwoofer, there are 5 audio output jacks, which have different colours that match the ends of the cords connected to the 5 speakers. I have plugged these into the correct slots. There are also 6 audio input jacks: 3 white and 3 red. The 3 white are: front-left, rear-left and center, and the 3 red are: front-right,rear-right and subwoofer. Plugged into these are 3 cords, all split at the end into a red and a white. Ive plugged all of these in, and put the other end of the cord into the back of my computer into the corresponding jacks (the cord plugged into the right and left front into the green jack...... the cord plugged into the rear left and right into the black 'rear' jack.... and the cord plugged into the center and subwoofer jacks into the orange c/sw jack)
I have Realtek HD Audio Manager, and when testing the speakers, only the front two work, and one of them plays with the subwoofer, but the other doesn't. None of the other speakers work in the manager, how when I play music, all of the speakers play, but not in surround sound. When my speakers are like this, if I play a game or watch a DVD, the speech is silent, only background noise can be heard.

A:Surround sound speakers not working

In the Realtek manager have you changed the speaker setup from 2 channel to 5.1 or 6 channel? You also want to set the audio to 5.1 / 6 channel in the Windows Control Panel under Audio.

Depending on what you play, or what games you play you also have to set it to surround sound - and most audio isn't recorded in more then 2 channels so the rest of the speakers either play the same things as the front speakers or nothing at all depending on how you set it up in the Realtek Audio manager.

Ok everything was working fine before I reformatted. After I reformatted, I downloaded the drivers for my SB Live 5.1 card and also the software (audio HQ, mixer panel etc.) . Model is SBO100.

When I go into the settings for the card and click test , "front left" comes out my front left and " front right" comes out my front right, but nothing from the center and rear, and it looks like its not even recognizing the rear speakers because they arent highlighted.

The werid thing is if i go into windows media player, the sound comes out of all 5 speakers (of course this is only stereo songs but the player "turns it into surround sound" - btw is this bad for quality?). I changed the windows media player speaker settings from default directsound to SB Live Direct Sound - so everything is working fine with that.

my question is basically why wont the driver's sotware itself recognize all 5 speakers? I have it set to 5.1 properly.

Yesterday I bought Logitech Surround Sound Speakers Z506 and I have the CM6501 Sound Card (with the lastest driver version.)

The Subwoofer, Left and- Right-front speakers produce sound.
But I found out my Rear/Center Speakers doesnt produce any sound. But they can produce sound!

When I do the 'sound test' there isn't any sound coming from it expept the fronts speakers.

I installed everything correctly, I have put all cables in the right port.
(I got the wrong cable dilivred in my package I got two Sound-Card cables and no Audo IN cable but that shouldn't be the problem because I did heard sound from rear speakers but the doesnt anymore.)

What am I about to do?

On your speaker icon in the taskbar, right-click and choose 'playback devices'.
In the new dialogue that appears, right-click on your speaker icon, and choose 'Configure speakers', then select the option that is nearest to your set-up.
Click on the 'Test' button to check all speakers are working.

I recently bought Creative A500 5.1 surround sound speakers for my PC. I then bought an internal sound card as i only had 2 speaker inputs on my pc, but then found out that my motherboard has only 1 PCI slot. So i had to buy an external sound card for the surround sound to work (this one)
I connected it all up, put the wires in the correct places, but the rear speakers do not play any sound. I know they work, as I put the rear jack into the front output to test them.
If I go into sound, then try to configure it to 5.1 I don't have the option to select rear speakers. (picture of what i mean) I can't go into enhancements to select fill speakers either as the tab isn't showing up in properties.
And also, as I'm using an external sound card (USB), nothing shows up in Realtek HD audio manager, so I'm not able to do it from there.
I have searched a lot to try and find out what the problem is, and can't find anything.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

A:No sound output from rear speakers (Creative A500)

CountVeggie welcome to the Seven Forum.

Did you install the driver that came with the external or is it just running on the default Windows 7 USB audio driver? The reason your rear's aren't working at the moment is that Windows is seeing it as a 7.1 set up and not 5.1, with the rear's showing as side's.

I have these logitech G51 speakers.
I have problems with the surround sound.
If I put a DVD movie qith 5.1 audio, I cannot hear the voices. I can hear all the background sounds.
If I play a race car game, I cannot hear my motor, but I can hear everything around the car.
The only way I can hear everything is by turning off the surround sound.
I have a m-audio Revolution 7.1 sound card.
There must be a way to fix this?
Help me guys!

Try a different set of speakers, it sounds more like a sound card problem to me.

I have an amplifier with the usual digital inputs (optical and coaxial). I have some 5.1 speakers coming out of the amp. I already use digital optical connections to the amp for my PS2 and separate DVD player, now I want to hook up my PC to it for 5.1 surround sound in games... However, ideally I want it digital.

I currently have the Soundblaster Live 5.1 DE, and am aware that I'm going to need to upgrade that as it only has the Creative digital output which can only go into Creative speakers .

Is there a soundcard out there that will plug into an amplifier via a digital connection and give me true 5.1 digital surround sound in games? Is that even possible?

The closest I have come to realising this *dream* is the Hercules Game Theater XP, but that only allows for analog 5.1 connections, is there a card out there that can do it digitally. Remember this is for games only, I have a separate DVD drive for DVDs.

Much thanks to anyone that can help/advise.

A:DIGITAL 5.1 surround sound in games using an amp and speakers, possible?

If you amplifier can decode Dolby Digital then your only option would be to get a nForce/nForce 2 motherboard which supports Dolby Digital encoding. No other Soundcard will give you what you're looking for - though if your amp. supports 5.1 analog input you could always use that.

I have Logitech 560s, and the 2 rear speakers aren't playing sound anymore even though they used to work fine. I can't remember changing my setup in any way as to change how the rear speakers work.

I checked all my connections and everything seems to be working fine. Any suggestions guys??

A:[Resolved] What the heck? My rear speakers are no longer putting out any sound!!

I take it you get sound, just not on the rear speakers?

Check your Sound card interface to make sure they are enabled -- eg "speaker mode" should be 4 or 6 not 2 and the "Fade" setting should not be all the way to front or 'f'.

Another question. Sorry for question-leeching.

Anyways, I'm trying to set up Surround for my computer using the S/PDIF-Out to a receiver. It doesn't seem to be working out. I have all the satellites up except for the center, which I can't find. I'm using an Sony STR-DE835 receiver. It has Multi-Channel Decoding, DTS and Dolby Digital support, as well as Pro Logic.

The system I have up is this: I've got the S/PDIF going to the receiver, which distributes it to both some very large stereo speakers and a subwoofer, and then the B-set (FR, FL, C, RR, RL, SW), which are all smaller speakers. I can switch between A- and B-sets pretty quickly, using a dial. I've got all the satellite distances programmed in, and when I turn the receiver on, I can hear static in the rear speakers. The only problem is, when I do a soundtest in my Realtek audio controller manager, sound only emits from the the front speakers.

Any ideas?

Would it be possible to set up my laptop so that I can get kind of surround sound using the built-in speakers along side my 2.1 speakers? I only have 2 jacks, 1 mic/line in and 1 speaker jack.

I did try poking around in a few places but could not find anything.

I'm not necessarily looking for perfect 3D sound, stereo would be great to. I just think doing this may maximize the sound range.

Thanks in advance

Hi everyone,

I have the sound card and speakers listed in my computer specs part of profile -

The sound card I'm using is a VERY nice one, has full support for 5.1 speakers and a myriad of other things.

I've been using these speakers for a while now and they worked perfectly, few days ago they stopped functioning properly - now only the front left/right speakers play, the center, back left, and back right do not play.

Everything is plugged in, I've triple checked or more.

Any ideas? All drivers are sufficiently installed.

Oh two more things... the bass is feeling a bit pathetic too...

AND I have an application (sound card driver really) that can test each speaker, and when I use it and click the back left/right/front center speaks they work fine.

I have set my winamp, all my games, media player, even under sound in control panel to 5.1 sound and its just not using it.

I have a Bose surround sound system that I no longer use. My speaker recently were stolen by my wife for her sewing room computer. Id like to use the old surround sound system as speakers. I bought a USB to RCA conversion cable. My computer does not register any audio devices when they are plugged into one another. Any suggestions?

A:USB to RCA Older surround sound system as computer speakers

That cable is usually used to go from RCA output to a USB input. You need to come from your speaker jack on your computer to RCA inputs on your sound system. You need something like this in the length you need. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071R4R5B8/ref=sspa_dk_detail_0?psc=1

Hello all.
I bought the Z506 today for ?55 for my PC but for some reason 2 of the speakers and the surround sound system with the 2 speakers buillt in do not work.
I have them all connected up correctly on my Gaming PC.

Is the black and orange socket thing on the end of the black wire for surround system is this why it isn't working? Maybe my motherboard does not support surround system?

But if I take out the orange and black socket/wire from the back of the bass the speakers work fine but very fuzzy except from the main speaker with the volume control on.

Now correct me if I am wrong should music be played in all speakers or do 1 or 2 speakers just do a fuzzy noise?

A:Logitech Surround Sound Speakers Z506 problems

I haven't looked at the Z506's but most have Three connections to the PC for surround sound.
You haven't listed the PC model or motherboard model so I can't check to see what you have.

Hi guys,

I was wondering how I would do a 5.1 surround sound set up using only the microphone jack and headphone jack on my laptop - without utilizing an external sound card.

What I am interested in is:

would it be possible to reconfigure/reassign the role of each audio port and how would I do that?
How would I physically connect a front left/right, rear left/right and sub-woofer cable, to two ports available on my basic laptop? do i have to strip some wires and "piggy-back" the wires.

Is what I am asking for possible? I know, the easy thing to do is to go and buy an external sound card like the Zalman-RSSC V2 5.1ch USB sound card, but I already have a desktop with an adequate sound-card for the purposes stated above and I want to try something challenging, which brought me to this forum for help.
I hope someone out there can give me some ideas.

A:Setting up 5.1 surround sound using only red and green audio jack.

I know on some audio cards when you plug a device into the port it gives you the option of assigning what you just plugged in, though for laptops they often don't support surround sound. As for the subwoofer I would suggest just getting 2.1 speakers for front and then specifying in Sound setup that you don't have a subwoofer attached but the front speakers are full range. Then you may be able to (depending on sound card and drivers) set up the Bass Management enhancement to crossover bass frequencies from the rear speakers to the front speakers.

What brand is your onboard sound card?

Hope this helps

Hi, I just got some logitech x530 5.1 speakers, and like them so far, but can't get surround sound to work, only stereo. I have integreated realtek 7.1 audio.

I have tested the speakers with the test utilty on my other pc, and they all work right.

For some reason I can't get to the sound utilty on my pc I'm trying to install this on. I used to have a "sound effect" icon near the clock, but then I removed it when I cleaned up my icons, and now I can't find a way to access the utility. I tried to install the sound drivers again, but it didn't seem to help.

I think my sound issue is also due to the fact my version of powerdvd 5 is limited, since it only lists stereo as a sound option, and 6 speaker is blanked out. So, do I have to shell out $40 for the full version of powerdvd6? Is powerdvd the one I should get, or is windvd better?

Another option I though of would be for me to just get a soundblaster live, or audigy 2 value, etc, since they probably come with a dvd playing software program that can handle surround sound(correct me if I'm wrong about that).

If I would get a sound card, should I get a creative brand? I've heard they're a pain, that you have to keep the original cd, just to install updates off the net, is that true? If so, which other brands are ok. I've seen a card based on via's envy 24, is that good?

So, I have several problems, if anyone can help, I'd appreciate it.

I'm trying to configure 5.1 Surround Sound but Realtek doesn't seem to be installing and it's driving me nuts.

I have installed the driver provided by Gigabyte for my motherboard and it's not doing anything. It installs, asks me to restart the PC but nothing is there. OS is Windows 7 64-bit.

Gigabyte says that my motherboard supports both 5.1 and 7.1 Surround Sound so I don't understand why I can't configure my speakers to run 5.1 (it only lets me use Stereo).

Device manager only shows High Definition Audio Device and Control Panel doesn't show Realtek at all. Realtek Audio Manager doesn't appear either, it's not in the system tray icons where I would usually find it. Even searching for Realtek brings up nothing other than all the drivers I have downloaded to see if they would work.

Link to motherboard's Realtek driver as provided by Gigabyte: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4305#dl

Any ideas as to what the problem is? I can't seem to find anything audio related in BIOS either.

Hi guys...
I just plugged my Onkyo 6.1 Channel (S-680) to my computer. I connected the receiver to the Digital Out port of my motherboard (Intel 915GV Chipset-Asus PTGD1 - LA). It uses the Realtek ALC880 drivers. Whenever I open Sound Effect Manager and do the Speaker Test, sound comes only from my front speakers. The rears/centre/sub all light up but no sound is played. However, while running games/music/films I get sound from all my speakers (though not very satisfactory and not real surround sound). Can anyone please help me with this?

Also, I can't open Realtek HD Audio Manager (RTHDCPL.exe). Only RTLCPL.exe (Sound Effect Manager) works. When I click on RTHDCPL.exe nothing happens. Please do help out.

A:No Sound From Surround/Centre/Subwoofer In Realtek Sound Effect Manager Test

try this:

1) try to go to the settings of your sound effect manager & there are selections there for 2.0, or what ever you may find that corresponds to your speaker channel.

2) if nothing corresponds to the given selections, try to download the latest audio driver from your motherboard's manufacturer website.

3) otherwise, you need to plug-in a sound card that has the feature to play with 6.1 channel audio.
