Q: How do i disable pinch zoom feature on win8 touchscreen PC

Hello hopefully someone can help me figure out how to disable the pinch to zoom gesture on my windows 8.1 lenovo touch screen desktop. I haven't been able to find a option to do so with windows 8. In windows 7 i disabled the pinch zoom feature using flicks but there is no such option for windows 8.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, Try the following. Hold down the Windows key and press R Into the Run box type regedit and hit enter In the Registry Editor, navigate to the following HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTP\Install Inside, look for a key named DeleteUserSettingsOnUpgrade If this is present, right click the key and select Modify Set the Value data field to 0 ( Zero ) and then click Ok. Close the Registry Editor. Make the Synaptics setting changes you require in the usual way and save them, then check if they're now retained after a reboot. Regards, DP-K

Hi everyone, I like this laptop and the touchpad works fine, but I'd like to disable the pinch-to-zoom function. Following internet articles, I've looked a number of times at the Control Panel under Mouse settings. There's no touchpad listed, and no 'Device Settings' tab at the far right. Then I tried updating the mouse drivers, but all are said to be the most current. I tried downloading a touchpad driver from synaptics, but the dl failed to install on setup twice. I tried checking the UEFI settings (is that the BIOS?) following a previous post here, but cannot see any listing for touchpad. Any ideas? Help! Thanks a lot, Peter

I have an HP dv3 laptop with a synaptics touchpad. Swiping the left edge of the touch pad causes programs which have a zoom capability to zoom in and out. There is no documentation from HP or Synaptics or Microsoft that I have been able to find which even acknowledges that this feature even exists. I would like to turn the feature off because I keep activating it by accident, but I cannot find a setting anywhere. Perhaps there is a registry setting I can change?

A:Want to disable left edge zoom feature

Some additional information: the pointer becomes the crossed lines with arrows that I associate with Move during the swipe and then after the release the shrinking circle occurs as if I had pressed the CTRL key to locate the cursor. The advertised way of doing a zoom with the keypad is to hold the CTRL key and swipe the right edge.

I own a C940 but this could prove useful to owners of other touchscreen devices as well. The screen bezel on my laptop is quite small, so just grabbing the laptop by a corner to move it or adjust the screen can trigger some touch action.I know there is a way to disable the touchscreen completely from Device Manager, but it would be a lot more useful to have a dedicated key (FN+T or similar) for this, that disables or re-enables it.

If you like and feel comfortable doing it, you can build a shortcut, yourself. Scroll down a bit on this page for a pretty good set of instructions:

Hi everyone.

I've bought myself a new Dell Inspiron 7537. This is the first time I have a laptop with touchscreen.
I'm still trying to get use to it, and there's something I want to ask.
I've discovered that there are 2 types of pinch zoom.
- The first one is pinch zoom on the touch screen, which is really smooth and responsive. What it does is that it zooms the display .
- The second one is what I really hate, pinch zoom on the trackpad. The different is that this zooms the webpage and its data, it increases the font size of the text, pictures, every content of the webpage while trying to fit everything in the display. It has the same effect as Ctrl + and Ctrl - and it is very laggy!

So my question is: Is there a way to configure the trackpad pinchzoom so that will work just like touch screen pinch zoom?
I know the surface can do that since I've tried it in the store. Zooming with the trackpad on the type cover does the same as zooming on the touch display.
I've been searching everywhere on the internet but couldn't find any way to configure the trackpad pinch zoom. I really hope someone could help me. Thank you in advance.

I am getting really annoyed! in Mouse and touchpad settings I don't want pinch and zoom enabled! So I disable it only to find out when I restart the computer, it has enabled itself again. I hate it as I keep rezing my desktop icons because of pinch and zoom. Does anyone know how to solve this please?

I saved a profile for my Mouse and Touchpad settings. But it still loads the default settings, that has pinch and zoom enabled. I have to Manually load my settings. Come on HP! Not good enough!!!

A:Pinch and Zoom keep resetting on HP Pavilion 15-ab045sa

I think I found a fix! After mucking around in the registry, trying all sorts of stuff, moving keys around, with some PARTIAL success but not totally satisfactory... something caught my eye...
Open up regedit.exe
Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTP\Install
Note this is LOCAL MACHINE, not CURRENT USER.
Look for a key in that Install folder called DeleteUserSettingsOnUpgrade
Double click and change the value to 0
Now go back to the Synaptics control panel, set everything how you like, and reboot. See if it holds. It is holding on mine, still have to test on another computer.
So, this is a sign something weirder is going on behind the scenes, if the driver thinks it is "upgrading" after every reboot.... but anyway, if it works for now, good enough for me!

I installed all drivers for the touchpad. No seeing any UltraNav software. And i don't find any settings to reduce the pinch zoom sensitivity (except enable/disable it).For now the sensitivity are too high, barely to make zooming on browser back to 100% (micrometer precision required) or google maps is zooming too fast. I know i can reset the zoom via keyboard but the annoying part is when I have 2 fingers on the touchpad to prepare the scrolling and it triggers the zooming.Device: X1 Extreme (20MF000XGE)So the question is: does anyone know how to adjust the sensitivity just for the pinch zoom?

Is there a way to reduce the sensitivity of the touchpad and/or disable the zoom feature of the touchpad without disabling the touchpad entirely? Over the years, with my other laptop, I grew used to using my right hand to move the pointer while using my left hand to click my selection, so I often have both hands resting on the touchpad. It's second nature, and a hard habit to break. This is a problem on my Lenovo Edge 15 touchpad, because having my left hand anywhere near the touchpad while moving the pointer around with my right hand, I keep inadvertently activating the zoom in/out feature. I do rely on the touchpad quite a bit, so I don't want to turn it off, but the constant zooming issue is really affecting my productivity. Every minute or two, I'm having to stop and Ctrl+0 to get the screen back to normal magnification. I don't see a simple way to fix this in my mouse/touchpad settings. Thanks.

A:Touchpad Pinch Zoom Problem on Lenovo Edge 15

I hope you've figured this out by now and aren't still having this problem. I figured I'd post anyway in case other people are searching for an answer and having trouble finding it. The zoom was driving me insane also and I finally found an answer on another forum. I have a Lenovo G50, but it's likely the problems would be resolved similarly.  Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers > Mouse (or just search for "Mouse" in your Cortana search bar). Open Mouse Properties and navigate to the far right tab where your touchpad driver is listed, I'm assuming many of us Lenovo users have the same driver but mine is "Elan". Under where the device is listed there are buttons: Enable Device, Stop Device, Options. Or yours may say "Advanced Settings" instead of Options. Open Opions/Settings.  Find the Multi-Finger tab and location the Zooming option. Check the Disable button (or slow zoom rate if you prefer). Click Apply ...and it's fixed! I'm so much happier now that my screen isn't constantly zooming in and out. My left hand constantly bumps the touchpad and the zooming was NOT working for me.

Hello all! I own a recently purchased Acer E 15 laptop, and like many Windows 8.1 users, I'm very frustrated by the so-called "Precision" touchpad. The pinch-zoom function simply never works when you want it to, but it will suddenly zoom your screen to 300% when you're doing something else.I have been trying to turn pinch-zoom off, but none of the published solutions I've seen in this forum or elsewhere on the web seem to apply to my laptop. When I go into mouse management via the control panel, all I get is this window. I simply don't have the extra "Device Settings" tab shown in all the solutions I've seen. None of the tabs on the window displayed below seem to have any kind of checkbox to control pinch-zoom or any of the other "precision" features. It's the same on the "Mouse" window in the Modern/Touchscreen display. Nowhere do I seem to have the controls to turn pinch-zoom off.Can someone offer me a solution, please? The sudden zooming and unzooming is very annoying and disruptive to my work.Thank you! P.S.: The touchpad is often laggy too, and sometimes just freezes up. I don't know if these are related issues, but if there's a solution for this too, I'd appreciate it.

First of all - Welcome to BC !

Can you give some details of these computers - make, model and so on - it gives us something to go on.

When you say 'the bottom of the page', do you mean the task bar on the desktop, or at the bottom inside one application or another?  I am not familiar with a zoom control on the task bar but a lot of applications, from image viewers through graphics software to MS Office, have a zoom function. But this almost always uniformly expands or shrinks the complete page, text and everything included. And, more to the point, the zoom control goes wherever the designer of the software decided to put it.

A:zoom feature in movie player??

I believe you're talking about aspect ratio, not zoom. Most players have a place to set the aspect ratio, and some codecs have aspect ratio settings. On standard TV's and monitors, generally you use a 4:3 aspect ratio, on widescreens generally you use 16:9.
There are also different stretch settings offered by different software packages. Cyberlink PowerDVD offers CLPV stretching while other software packages have different pixel stretching or doubling techniques, these stretching techniques can have a large impact on the video viewing quality.

Can you describe in detail to me how to do that? I called Lenovo support about it and the guy said it might be a software or hardware problem and told me to take it into a repair facility. Hi,

The Viewer applet will open and the controls at the bottom allow you to navigate, zoom, copy, etc. This is a very quick and useful feature that is always available in Windows Explorer.

Sure enough, all the icons that I'm sure were always there appear in this window *but* I would like them there ALL the time when viewing in filmstrip mode - is it something simple I'm overlooking here?

I just bought a HP ProBook 6570b laptop 2nd hand from a local college who was moving to a new campus and upgrading to new computers/laptops. It had Windows 7 and when I first turned it on it had a free upgrade to Windows 10 which I did upgrade to...though now I've seen a couple places people saying Windows 10 is not good? The main point I guess is that I don't know a lot about the functions and capabilities of the computer and what all it comes with. I have several questions but I have 3 questions to start with. 1. While it may be handy for certain things, overall I've found it to be very hindering to basic use of the laptop.  2. I've noticed that the screen orientation will often turn. These both seem to be functions that are compatible for a phone or tablet. However, again it becomes annoying when I'm just trying to use it as a laptop. Is there a way to disable this function ? Hello,

I just got a laptop with Windows8 (after being perfectly happy with Win XP for a very long time), and I'm still very early in the learning curve.

I have a question, despite my online searches, that I can't seem to find an answer to.

When using Internet Explorer in touch mode, how/where do I find saved favorite websites?

I can find the option to save or pin a website, and then I can find my pinned sites, but I still can't find my saved favorites.

I can find the favorites in "desktop" mode, but not in touch mode.

This is probably a very basic, dumb question, but I'm kinda lost here.

That is not a Windows function so you cannot disable it in Windows without disabling the entire driver, which is not a good idea. Sadly you failed to tell us anything about your computer. Assuming a notebook, you need to look at your key labels or in your manual to see how to disable the pad. It typically is a Function key combination. On my Toshiba, Fn + F9 will disable/enable the touchpad.

So I need to a image viewer/editor with "Scroll to Zoom" feature. Basically when I scroll, the image should be zoomed instead of moving to the next picture.
Irfanview had this feature but its not there anymore. Or maybe I am not able to find it.

I know that Ctrl+Scroll will produce the result. But I need it to zoom with only the Scroll button.

So do you know of any program/software that has this feature. Any suggestions?

Built in Windows Photo Viewer does that.

The touchscreen on my laptop works for the most part like a mouse would, except that it does not actually register that the 'mouse button' is 'down' until the 'click' is released (that is, you lift your finger or move it). Are there any drivers that would allow me to send a 'mousedown' event as soon as the screen is touched?

Thanks.

I have searched all the internets without luck, and maybe/probably don't know the correct vernacular so here goes.

In windows 7, when viewing the desktop... or when the mouse focus is off window (on desktop)... a "neat" feature of windows now is how you can resize all the icons with a crtl+wheel motion. Just click to the desktop, or have the focus there already, and viola, the crtl button plus a wheel move makes system wide changes to your desktop icon display.

Well I am not sure what version this new trick was invented in, but it is a cool trick... ONCE. After that its a really stupid annoyance that is just insanity because today, in real life, every other time I sit down my icons are moved around, or all jacked up, or they are out of place, or just out of order, or there are gaps, or some or all of the above... what kind of useful feature is that? Have you thought of a lock for this gadget at all? As in allow the customization, then tuck it away so its not a flaming hotkey 24/7?

Sure, the cause of this awesome trick of resizing the desktop with the scroll wheel, is my wife and kids. How did they PwN me with such 1337 h4x when they know nothing about root trickery and such... well easy, see just by using the PC on occasion, they have accidently cracked the code by accidently discovering this hack. Oh it took a while for me to solve that much sure, but once I did, it wasn't long before I discovered that this total PITA trick is actually a built in feature here... Read more

A:crtl zoom desktop icon resize driving me insane, please help disable??

I know what you mean. Tried it and f*** up my whole desktop's worth of icons.

Anyway, found a solution, although it requires a third-party program and it disables the combination of Ctrl+mouse wheel in any program, including browsers (IE, Firefox, Chrome and similar) and games.

So, unless someone comes up with something better you can get ready for a l33t haxxorz thanks to a guy called rd2020 posted here.

Usual disclaimer, WARNING, this worked on my current PC, and the amount of testing it received is minimal (so far it works ). DO AT YOUR OWN RISK

Now, the third party program is the famous Autohotkey, so download it and install it. Go custom and select the 32 bit version. Probably either choice won't matter as this is a very tiny bit of code anyway but that's what I did.

Then create a new script, by creating a new notepad file on the desktop.

in the file, write

Code:
^WheelDown::return
^WheelUp::return
#MaxHotkeysPerInterval 1000
The ^ is "Ctrl" in this script language and the last line makes sure this script isn't executed hundreds of times per second.

Then save the file with the extension .ahk, like say "stopzoom.ahk". You might need to go in Folder Options (type "folder options" in the Start menu searchbox) --> View --> deselect "Hide extensions for known file types" to make sure that the file isn't being named "stopzoom.ahk.txt" as that is still a notepad document, not a script.

When it "becom... Read more
