USB issues causing disconnection/reconnection issues with Mobiles

Q: USB issues causing disconnection/reconnection issues with Mobiles

Hey all,

It's my first post here, so I'll try to be as helpful in my explanations as possible.

Basically I'm running Windows 10 64-bit (free download version) and am trying to use my HTC ONE (m7) with Trinus VR. For the least latency I'm trying to use it through USB tethering. The problem is that my computer keeps dropping and reconnecting to the phone. Plus, even though the phone's USB tethering is on, I'm not getting a 'tethering' connection (only able to explore the file structure).

Now, as far I can tell, according to a google search, most of the problem comes down to the Microsoft USB drivers(? need confirmation on this). I've changed my power options and disabled the "USB selective suspend setting", I've also uninstalled and reinstalled the HTC Sync and HTC SyncManager software AND uninstalled all of the USB devices in the Device Manager.

It will still, on occasion, go through a cycling disconnect and reconnect pattern.

Do you ladies and gentleman have any more ideas that I can try?

Many thanks for reading this far, I appreciate ANY help or advice that you can give. THANKS!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hello, I have been having this issue for 3 weeks now and I'm absolutely stumped. whats been happening is that my online applications such as yahoo messenger, mozilla and my online games such as Final fantasy 11 have been disconnecting every hr exactly. as soon as each application disconnects it reconnects automatically (except ffxi) and its good for another full hr. while this is happening my connection remains solid and doesn't disconnect. I have tried many things such as updating my drivers, scanning for viruses, unplugging my router and just testing my gateway, portforwarding, turning off windows firewall, and even calling my isp.

my isp said that my SNR margin was 6/7 and one i plugged another phone cord into the jack it jumped to 12/17 which is acceptable from what I understand. even after that dramatic increase in connectivity I still dc from my applications every hr. Its quite frustrating since its only been happening for the past few weeks. Im starting to think it could be my gateway but growing more unlikely as it seems to like clockwork. They had me check all the filters on the phone lines and they are fine. So any ideas would be very much appreciated, im at the end of my rope as far as ideas.

thank you for your time,

I am assuming you are using the ping command? If so what are you pinging? Is it a website or a device on your network?

Also are you using the -t switch? This would constantly send ICMP ping requests to the device essentially creating a mini DoS attack. Some webservers may disconnect you if they suspect you are trying to attack them which you essentially are with the ping -t command.

Hello guys,
So this issue has been going on since the ISP set up my fiber internet at my new apartment. Every 30 or so minutes whatever I'm playing or streaming will disconnect just long enough to kick me off. If it is a game it will kick me offline and I can reconnect immediately after the disconnection but I keep losing progress or get penalized for leaving matches. If it is a stream I am watching it will briefly disconnect and then come back but with lower quality and distorted audio until I refresh the stream. The strangest part is that these don't happen at the same time if I have both up. My game can disconnect but the stream doesn't and the opposite also. I have tried and confirmed the same issue happens on a wired and wifi connection with both my pc and ps4. I have restarted the router and my ISP has tried multiple things such as reconfiguring the setup from scratch. They just replaced the router today and it still appears to have the issue. It's just such a weird issue that I have no idea what it could be. Any and all help would be awesome, thanks guys.

So, I have a HP TouchPavillion laptop that I got a few months ago, and it has been working great until now. My internet connection is being randomly disconnected for no reason, and whenever I download something, the download speed will suddenly drop until it reaches 0 bytes per second, even though I am connected to the internet. Whenever my computer disconnects me from the connection, trying to re-connect will cause the screen to freeze for a few seconds, and then I am not able to re-connect unless I reboot the computer. Anyone know the problem?
P.S. The security is "Unsecured" and the type is "802.11n" in case it helps.

Hi Pootis and welcome to the forum! The first thing I would try is uninstall the card in Device Manager, reboot and let it re-install. Are you using the latest drivers?

An unsecured connection over wifi is not good as others can jump on the connection and even hack into your computer.

Also can't rule out a router problem. Does it do the same thing at a different location?

I am having exactly the same problem.
I am using the same combination of hardware as Pandar; D-link wireless 108G router DI-624 with a wireless network card DWL-G520. (the store putted them beside each other and having very similar packaging, as if they are meant to be together. So I assume they should be compatible more then anything else)
I tried all the method you guys mentioned, and it still didn't solve the problem.
It still continues to disconnect around every few minutes.

I have both the router and the network card's firmware up to date.
I have tried out every combination of channel.
still, it continue to disconnect once in a while.

my friend told me it is more likely the hardware problem, the network card, he saids.
he pointed out how my network card would either detects all the nearby available networks (from the neightbours), or detects nothing at all. This behavior continues every 3-5 minutes.

So I am just wondering if he's right and do I need to replace a new network card, or attach an antennas to boost signal?

Even though it appears you're having the same problem, please start a new thread when you have a new issue. It's very difficult to keep two problems straight and who's working on what in a single thread.

I've created a new thread for your issue here.

Note: You will need to post complete details of your configuration and your specific issue in this new thread for us to help you.

Thanks for your cooperation.

I don't know what the deal is with this PC, but the internet disconnects constantly on me. Non-stop. I had similar issues ages ago, but I got a new USB-port Wifi network card a while back, and a bad router was replaced, and the issues went away. But now it's doing it all over again and this time I'm fairly sure it's my PC. I come equipped with HiJack This!

(I do have BitTorrent on my PC, but I assure you, I have not used it in a long while, much less for anything that wasn't open-source and free licensing or popular game modification downloads.)

Anyway. Sometimes, it disconnects me from the WiFi Network entirely and I have to manually reconnect to it. And sometimes even THAT won't work. Sometimes it works if I reboot the PC, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it stays up all day, sometimes it's down all day... It even disconnected once when I tried to upload this log. I copy-pasted it to be safe from that.

But I digress. Here is the log.

My mum is 83.
She was connected to Optus ADSL up until a week or so ago, when they automatically transferred across to DSL Direct - she had previously received a letter stating that she had to do nothing except fit the new filters that were sent out to her, which she did.

She has a double adaptor at the phone socket in the kitchen - one goes to an extension (land line) phone in the bedroom. On this she put one filter. The other side goes through the second filter to a cordless phone in the kitchen and the modem port goes to the modem, which is in another back bedroom, with the computer.

Since they changed over she has had real trouble getting connected, and when she does, it is slow.

Now I have to admit that the phone line from the second filter to the modem is quite long (maybe 17 metres). However just as many people seem to think long lines are not a problem as those who say they aren't. I guess it depends on your situation.

And cordless phones likewise have been known to have issues (though again there are those who swear that they don't).

Things tried so far:

Unplugging the cordless phone and having just the modem and the other landline plugged in.....seems to work, though Mum didn't have the patience to test it for more than an hour or so.

After doing that, she unplugged the bedroom phone & plugged in the cordless only with the modem....and it worked...but again she only tested it for a short time. I feel that had she gone longer it might have ... Read more

My mouse and keyboard work on my laptop. I have tried and tested it on the other machine and have not come across this issue. So my mouse and keyboard are working properly.

My headset continues to work properly while this issue happens. So my USB ports are still powered.

When the issue happens, I can hear my computer attempting to reconnect my stuff. the "Badunk" noise happens over and over. Its like the computer thinks my Keyboard and mouse are no longer there, but is trying to connect to them.

A few times when this issue happened, my keyboard froze while pressing (W). This happened while in a game, and my character kept moving forward. Though my keyboard and mouse was unresponsive.

-Drivers are up to date.
-Power supply management has been configured to not cut off
-cleaned my computer of malware, virus scans, garbage files etc...

The issue is still present and continues periodically. Sometimes the only way I can get the mouse and KB to return is by switching USB ports. Though sometimes, this doesn't work. I am sometimes forced to do a hard restart :/

Called the support line to tell them my issue. Was told to pay a technician to clean my computer for me. I was not impressed. Since I was calling to find help to figure out why my mouse and keyboard cuts out while in use.

A:Keyboard and mouse disconnection issues

This can sometimes mean a driver conflict. First thing I would try is switching the USB port, in many laptops they have multiple USB ports and one can be preferred best by this / these devices. Try that and then report back with make and model info of all.

Recently had a computer upgrade. Before, I had no internet connection problems at all and no dropouts.

Now I have 2 intermittent issues. One is that sometimes the line will drop out after I have been connected for say 6 minutes. I re-connect and no more dropouts.

Another thing that has happened a few times since the upgrade is that when I connect, my home page does not come up nor can I access any sites - the status of the connection says it is connected but nothing is happening. I disconnect, and immediately re-connect and everything is as normal.

I seem to have a lot of new things under Control Panel/Network/Configuration:

Client for Microsoft Networks
Dial-up Adapter
VIA Rhine 11 Fast Ethernet Adapter
TCP/IP->Dial-up Adapter
TCP/IP->VIA Rhine 11 Fast Ethernet Adapter
TCP/IP->VIA VT86C100A Rhine Fast Ethernet Adapter

What sort of things should I be checking to see what has changed since the upgrade. I believe they re-installed Windows "over the top".

I've been playing League of Legends for about the last six months, and within the last few weeks, I've been getting issues where the client tells me it is attempting to reconnect to the server. During this time, I'm unable to do anything in the game. When this happens, I minimize to see if my internet connection is down, and it hasn't been at all. We just got a new router because our internet was actually going down every couple minutes, but since getting the new router that problem is fixed. This problem still remains. The DxDiag report is below.

In addition, I believe I have correctly set MSE to work with and allow the game, and I turn off Windows Firewall during playing so I don't think that's the issue. I also just installed DirectX's most recent version. I am not sure if my graphics card drivers are up to date, as I'm not sure how to tell which version I have.

Hi All,
I received my brand new Kaby Lake powered Dell XPS 13 9360 a couple of weeks back and I have been suffering from wifi disconnect issues since then. The USB LAN connection works perfectly using the Dell USB C adapter.
I have tried all the standard troubleshooting steps:
1. BIOS and Killer 1535 Wireless Adapter Driver updated to latest version  (including uninstalling and reinstalling the wireless drivers)
2. Updated Windows 10 to the latest anniversary edition
3. Changed Power Saving settings on the Wireless Adapter using Powershell commands as there are no Power management options for the Killer Wireless adapter in Device Manager
(Disable-NetAdapterPowerManagement -Name "Wi-Fi" -NoRestart)
After running the above command I get the status of the relevant power mgmt parameters as below (though not sure if its really effective)
DeviceSleepOnDisconnect : InactiveWakeOnMagicPacket : Disabled
 4. Installed the latest Intel PROSet/Wireless Software and Drivers for Windows 10
Even after running step 1 and then later step,2 the wifi connection used to disconnect after some time (especially when a large file was being downloaded or any high network usage activity). Running a speed test of my broadband connection is a sure way to disconnect from wifi. More importantly this disconnection used to crash the Access Point on my TP-Link WR841N router which caused all my other devices to lose network connection as well and required a Router restart.

Okay, About three months ago, I got hacked HARD...permissions were changed, administrator rights were removed from my administrator accounts, etc. i was flabbergasted. THe iactually didn't bother me though until I ran a MBAM scan and found 133 viruses and spyware instances on my drive (NOT including tracking cookies!). I cleaned and recleaned, using MBAM, SuperantiSpyware, Avira, running each one in safe mode first, then loading into my normal account and running them, and finally erasing my user account and creating a new one. But even after the new user account was created with Administrator privileges, I still routinely received virus and Malware threat warnign flags from MBAM and Avira. Eventually, Avira and MBAM were disabled and Avira was "deleted" (Windows will not uninstall because the setup.exe file has been 'Changed" and won't reinstall it because I don't have "Administrator privileges" on my Administrator accounts!) even though at startup I receive an error message saying that Avira has been corrupted. The most telling issue is that antivirus and spyware/Malware scans come up clean on Safe mode scans, but using my normal account, the machine reboots. Using Superantispyware I notice that it's always during the memory test that this occurs (and in Safe Mode, it passes through this section with no issue). I started a thread in Windows 7 because my computer was locking up. I would come to the computer and the screen would be black, the hard drive spinning fast and I am unable to wake the computer. I am forced to hold in the power button until it shuts off and restarts. I went through a myriad of steps with a great helper on here and took the computer to the computer repair to get looked at. They went through and updated driver, bios and repaired the registry. Came home and same problem. I have an old Belkin USB Hub connected, it was powered but had nothing hooked to it. They said to take that hub off the system completely and try it. I am doing that now. Can the USB hub go bad? I don't know if I spilled something on it or if it is just old and not working properly. My overall questions is this, can a hub go bad and cause issues such as this, that lock up the system? The only other option may be a new video card but I don't think I am having any video-related issues because the computer works well and looks great on the screen when in use.

Recently I discovered a program file in my system32 folder called wikii.exe.

I tried to do a search for that file, but no luck.

Anyway, I changed the exe to txt to look at it, and I know that it is definitely not a file that should be there, however, when I try to delete it, it reappears in seconds again. Now I checked to make sure there was not a duplicate in the dllcache folder, so I don't know if there is another dependant file in the folders somewhere.

Also, I looked through the registry and tried to look for references to wikii.exe and came up with one and here is the screenshot of the location and reference

And here is the link to the wikii.txt if anyone can look at it and determine what it does?

I have recently installed a solid state hard drive into my laptop and since doing so I have experienced numerous system crashes. When this happens an error screen appears, but there is not enough time to read the content before it restarts and boot options kick in (ie safe mode etc). The crash seemed to occur when I was browsing the net and has become more frequent and now has crashed minutes after start up. It seemed to be prompted by any simple action like closing dialogue boxes, whereas initially it occurred only infrequently. I am confident that the root cause has to do with the Kingston SSD as my old hard drive works ok (so far). Please help

I'm VERY new to Vista (got the new laptop a few days ago with it on it). I'm an avid WOW player, and every time I log into WOW, it immediately disconnects me from the internet. When I run my ISP's diagnostic tool, it doesn't like the fact that I have a private IP, so I'm wondering if this is the issue.

Any thoughts? Suggestions? I have no idea how to change from private IP to dynamic. Currently we have 2 laptops on our router, 1 desktop and an X-Box 360.

I will post any screen shots, just have no idea what would be helpful.

Hi, I upgraded my memory from an old DDR3 which was 8GB and a latency of about 11 and a clock speed of 8xx. Now I have 16BG (2 x 8GB) with a latency of 9.

I have set my bios to the XMP setting.

however, when I open my PowerPoint and try and move some pictures around, it seems they 'jump' instead of move smoothly... I can not click an image and move it 1/8" in any direction- it just jumps 1"-2" at a time. So it seems I have LOST finer/smooth graphics.

The rest of my internet and use of the computer is normal.. and even a bit zippier now which is what it should be...

Question, does the new/better system memory cause any issues with an older video card memory? I am aware they are separate...

My video card drivers are all up to date as are all my other drivers. My motherboard bios is updated as of June 2014...

Issue i'm having is that my desktop cant surf the web, it'll say "waiting on www.site.com" and does nothing (Firefox just stalls but IE will also have multiple pop-ups). Everything else that uses the internet works (updating Spybot, Norton, playing WoW, iTunes, etc)

i'm using the laptop to post this, pain cause if i need to d/l something, i jumpstick over.

i noticed AnyTrial on there when running HiJack This but i cant find it when i go to the folder (old roommate used to use the comp too)...

but anyways, here's my HiJack This:

I upgraded my cpu to an extreme edition in my laptop and only thing I changed was CPU. memory SSD/HDD everything else in place didnt take them off or anything. after changing CPU I power it up but blackscreen and beeps 4 times which indicated failure memory read/write.

now, my RAM worked fine with the other CPU and I didnt touch it but thinking it might relaly be RAM failure I leave with 4GB (single ram stick) in instead of 8 GB (2x4) and booted up just fine. weird part now is when I got into windows it used VGA display instead of my crossfire graphics card, the hell?

after a reboot, I was running on my graphics card but only now one card is detected from the crossfire and in BIOS, only 1 card is detected too. I have 4 RAM slots and if i were to add anymore RAM, it will not boot. however if I were to put single stick of RAM doesnt matter which RAM stick at which RAM slot, as long as its single stick, it boots just fine.

just what is going on here? some say to reset CMOS should i try doing that?

A:replacing CPU causing issues?

The recommend procedure is to reinstall windows after any major hardware change...ie cpu or mobo. This will generally take care of such issue's. I betting it has to do with the chipset driver for the mobo.

Does your mobo support the new CPU?

I posted about this a few weeks ago but never got a reply, so I figured a fresh one with recent system cleans and new HJT log.

My PC has been having problems for a long while. Ive done all the up to date scans with malwarebyte's anti-malware, spybot, and antivirus. Found and removed alot of infections but still have issues it seems.

First, every so often while browsing on Firefox, I get random web site pop ups that appear on a new tab, or links I click go to random sites. My pop up block is on.

Secondly, I've had my windows theme always set to the Windows XP selection, but recently it seems to automatically switch to the classic look but not all at once (like the start menu may look classic but a new window I open may still have the XP look) and the selection to change back to the XP theme in Display is gone. After I restart, it all looks normal again, but then not too long after it does it again. Another issue that I think is actually tied to the previous, is that my shared folders stop sharing over the network and it wont let me re-share them. I also can't seem to adjust volume with either the keyboard or main external volume control during this, or sometimes the sound won't work at all. Again, it's all fine after restart then does it once more. These didn't start happening until after I turn off the automatic restart after system failure (kept getting a pop up stating the DHOC server access or whatever it was called had failed and must res... I'm having lots of trouble with my two disc drives on my new custom-built Windows 10 machine. I put in my older Lite-on disc drives because they were both functioning perfectly in my old PC. One is a blu-ray reader and the other is a DVD burner.

Today I decided to configure Exact Audio Copy on the new PC and it's been a nightmare. EAC keeps crashing and locking up when reading audio discs in the drives. I managed to configure one drive and then the other drive locked up. Then the drive that was working locked up next time. Each time EAC crashes it won't restart, and I have to reboot my PC. It takes over 2 minutes for my PC to shut down after EAC crashes. In the task manager EAC is still running but I can't shut it down without a reboot. Then EAC starts normally after rebooting and may or may not read a disc next time I try. Sometimes it accesses the disc, sometimes it freezes up again.

Meanwhile, CD-Speed won't let me burn a test disc using my DVD burner - the burn button is greyed out. SmartErase won't let me erase a CD-RW or DVD-RW. Buuuurn lists my blu-ray reader but not my DVD writer in the drop-down list. It won't list my other drive. CD-Speed lists the DVD burner in the drop-down list, but not the blu-ray reader. All kinds of weird issues with the drives. I'm going nuts trying to figure out what's wrong. Everything else with my new PC is fine. Just the disc drives are all wacky. I disabled autoplay, and uninstalled the devices in device manager and let them re-instal... Read more

A:CD/DVD drives causing issues with new PC

Further testing shows I can't switch from one drive to another in Exact Audio Copy. I just rebooted the PC, put a CD in my DVD burner, and configured it fine. But, once I ejected the disc, put it into the other drive, and selected that drive in the drop-down menu, it immediately got hung up (Not Responding). Same if I do it the opposite way. It hates it if I go back and forth between drives. It crashes every time. The fact that Buuuuurn doesn't list my burner in the drop-down list tells me something must be wrong here.

It seems that right after the Windows 7 auto update of IE 10, I was not able to access PDF's on the internet and now I also realized I cannot download attachments from both my Outlook and Gmail accounts.
One forum I read suggested uninstalling the IE 10 update so that IE 9 was running, but this did not seem to make any changes.
Is anyone else having this issue or have suggestions?

So here's the scoop, I run Windows XP, now, whenever i build a computer for somebody, i always download Firefox and remove IE, so i obviously did it with my own. Recently my nephew did SOMETHING to completely mess up my computer. I was able to restore most of it, but there is at least 1 thing left that i just can't pinpoint. Sometimes, when im on the net, or on AIM, or even in games, my computer alt-tabs to nothing, its extremely agitating for a video game programmer as you can imagine. I opened up my task manager and went to the processes and i found IEXPLORE.EXE. now, i know for a fact that it's not supposed to be in all caps like that, so i know it's not supposed to be there. Shortly after i end the process, explorer.exe starts to take up a full core (no idea if it's related or coincidence) and i have to end it and restart it to fix that. Any help with this is GREATLY appreciated. If you need any more information just ask.

I'm not really one for going to help but I've had no luck fixing this problem myself for two weeks. Basically, my brother has to use a laptop other than his PC to do some work on, now whenever that laptop connects, it disconnects my PC. I can reset the internet, get about 10mins before it disconnects again.

We have in total, 3 PC's, 3 laptops that use the internet. It's fine whenever that laptop is not on. I have tried the method of giving everything it's own IP incase it's an issue, but no change. Also tried the resetting anything simultanously etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

These are my new specs:

Intel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo) LGA 1155 77W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 4000 BX80637I53570K
Right now, I'm having major issues with either the drivers for the video card or the card itself. Downloading the 301.42 drivers will make my system massively unstable, and I occasionally get the red screen of death. Using the 301.25 drivers as I am now stabilizes the system, but I tried to run Just Cause 2, and five minutes in, I'm getting major stuttering and lag, and even after leaving the game this continues. Trying to shut down the computer normally after this happens will cause it to basically die, and I have to do a hard shut down.

Is the graphics card at fault here, or is it the way that the drivers are interacting with the Ivy Bridge processor? What is it? I spent something like $1300 on these parts! Please help!

I am running XP Pro at home, and I have noticed a HUGE slow down on my computer - particularly on internet.
I know what the first thing you think of is virus or spyware, something along those lines. However I have scanned for both and used different sources to run the scans just to be sure. I connect thru cable modem and I also have my sisters laptop and my secondary computer sharing that net connection and neither one of those are having these issues.
Heres the part where audio comes in. The net runs basically okay till I try to listen to any type of audio file. Like for example a sample clip of something. The file types I have tried to listen to have varied and so have the "players" that have been trying to play them. But theh audio will not open and once I have tried the one time to open an audio sound clip, my whole internet just crawls slower than dial up even. I cannot figure out what the heck is happening.
Any ideas?

Just bought a new 6GB/s 1TB HDD, as a second drive and can not get the PC to load past the Windows screen. The Mobo is a P55A UD3 F7 from Gigabyte, and the drives show up in the BIOS set as IDE. If I set to ACHI then I get a BSOD right after the Windows flag. The main C drive which has Windows on it is a 3 GB/s drive and works fine if the 6 GB drive is not in hooked up. Very frustrated, as I thought this would be a simple swap and go.

Any help is appreciated.

Browsing Performanc Info and Tools and came up with this.

I have seen the startup timefor MSE go way over what is posted.I've tried to set MSE to Auto-Delayed start-which was suggested, and which I am not comfortable with-to no avail.Parameter is incorrect or some such thing.Action couldn't be accomplished,at any rate.

My OS boots from Welcome screen to online accessability in 25-30 seconds.Restarts in under a minute.I really don't notice any start issues and was wondering if someone else might have some insight to offer?

Should I be concerned?

So for the last couple of days I've been experiencing lag spikes when playing most of the games on my PC, it started after downloading several games from steam at once. After i downloaded these games, even games that worked perfectly previously were experiencing the lag spikes. The problem is not my internet in anyway. When i turn off steam to play a game unrelated to it, it works perfectly. Obviously though this doesn't help me when i want to play games on steam. The list of games I installed are as follows:

Fallout: New Vegas

Mass Effect

Mass Effect 2

Resident Evil 5

Street Figher IV

Once I have started up my harddrive I have an opening error message not once but twice stating file efcbxy.dll can not be found. I already have Hijack this version but this message will not go away. I have AVG 9.0 installed and just a minute ago had a file blocked by AVG beijan.in/capt/index.php

This .dll file, (I have no idea if this is the route cause) but my harddrive is crashing. Internet Explorer is locking up and anything I do is in trutle speed at best. I have run full system scans with Hijackthis and AVG Neither have found this file nor have the problem been corrected.

Any ther ideas are more then welcomed. Working on an HP compaq, P4, windows XP, Hijack this version, AVG version 9.0 & Threatfire.

Please help

Here's the event logs etc from windows.

When I first installed the HDD and Windows, I ran the Windows experience thing and it rated the HDD at 7.8 out of 7.9 which made me think I had no reason to mess around with settings etc.

Once I noticed these issues I did some research and saw that I should have updated the SSD's firmware which I attempted to do and think I did successfully but it had no effect.

Hope you can help me.

Everytime I plug in my G35 headset(usb), any platform of audio/media stops working and will freeze. Any online videos will not play and when I access audio files media player just freezes. I have re installed the drivers before and it didn't seem to help. This only started happening recently and I've been using the headset for 1-2 years now.

Plus no sound comes from the headset but after I plug it out my speakers don't have sound either and I have to restart pc to fix it.

I've used this forum in the past with another computer so I'm fairly familiar with the quality of service and process here, but it has been a little while. I'm home for break and my parent's computer that they use for email and internet seems to be riddled with either / or viruses, spyware, adaware, or a combination of the three. Something is preventing Spybot from running, it will just crash when I hit the button to load it within 3-5 seconds. Also, the task manager is disabled, it says "by the administrator." Also, popups for various anti-virus software and other ads pop up with regularity, almost every 3 - 5 minutes, which as you can understand, is quite frustrating.

Its a Windows XP operating system, and if you need other information regarding the system specs do let me know. My dad's run a virus scan a couple times and hasn't had any results.

Thanks and I look forward to working with you!

I have actually tried to look this issue up on here and did find one post with the fix and such. However I was reluctant to do what the post wanted as the computer is a different system. This issue started happening about.. thinking... 2 or 3 days ago. I get three different things. One is pop ups in Firefox. The just randomly happen and it also redirects. I click on a link, it redirects to some ad page (different ones) then I click back and I can then get to the page. Sometimes. I hope that is confusing enough! I am also getting a threat blocked periodically from AVG. This one is called Exploit Phoenix Exploit Kit. The Process name is C:\Windows\SysWOW64\PING.EXE. The last thing is that PING.EXE is *always* running. I can kill it but it just comes back. This file will take up to 90% of my CPU usage. Needless to say it makes doing anything difficult.

I hope I do this right. I don't think I am a complete idiot about computers but I am by no means anywhere near an expert.

Thank you for your service and time!
