I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I know I have a virus again Or have NOT fully rid myself of one I thought I had eliminated weeks ago. I noticed that I was having trouble accessing some web sites when I was logged on as ME. It appeared to be shut me out alphbetically. As I could not access Burchperch.blogspot.com and then Calendars.com. I AM able to function if I log on as the administrator but I am worried that this thing will disable this "side" as well. A friend suggested that something has wormed itself into my Registry... I am not savvy enough to know what to do about that. He said to run The Non Pro version of Glary Utilities or The Online Safety Scanner. I am did run Glary and it found 506 errors but one has to BUY their product to completely rid myself of the errors. ALSO I have Secunia installed and it continues to warn me that I have programs that are insecure or at end-of life, but when I click on "Solution", it will not connect so I do not know what to do to correct the problems. .... so here I am again. HELP! PLEASE!

Hello,

When I try to navigate to certain sites I receive the following error "Internet Explorer cannot display the page - operation aborted". Additionally, my start menu no longer populates with recently used programs. I believe both problems are a result of contracting an xp anti-spy 2011 virus, which I was able to remove but these problems still linger. Any help you can provide would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have tried most of the posts on the internet to fix this problem--this is under IE6--"Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later." The problem just suddenly appeared. I'm running a Dell Inspiron B130 laptop with Win XP Home, Service Pack 3 installed, 1 gb ram and a 40 gb HDD. Had McAffee Internet Security Suite preinstalled but removed it via REVO Uninstaller and have only Windows firewall enabled and NO anti-virus. I did try downloading with Windows firewall disbaled and still no success. I can navigate to a site like Google Chrome download page but then when I click on the download button, the error message appears. Also can't download Microsoft or Windows updates from either site, although, again, I can get through the "checking" phase. I've run Malwarebytes, A-Squared, and IObit 360 and removed about 13 traces of malware ranging from low risk to high risk, defragged and cleaned the reg, all to no avail. I originally had IE7 installed, read about rolling back to IE6 and doing the typical repair sequences, again to no avail. Supposedly IE8 fixes this, but I can't download it, although I did try the stand-alone installer of 15 MB without checking the "get updates" box. It loaded and installed and shows up as IE8 but still had the same problems. Then did a system restore back to before the IE8 install, rolled back to IE6 again... Read more

I would like to update my internet explorer as well as my vista system but i donot have enough hard disk space to accomodate vista updates which are needed for internet explorer upgrades. I did try to upgrade to internet explorer 8 but i got the message that my system doesnot support this upgrade.

The reason i wanted the upgrade is that i have for the past 6 months tried to log into facebook.com but when i enter my details a message pops up everytime stating

"internet explorer cannot open the internet site
http://www.facebook.com/
operation aborted."

This has happened multiple times when i tried to access www.facebook.com and www.amazon.co.uk to name a few.
Also frequently internet explorer crashes when i am visiting sites like www.yahoo.com and when logging into my yahoo mail account. Then i have to open task manager, end program and i have clicked on find solution online with no answer and that my problem has been reported to microsoft. There has been no feedback or support from microsoft.

So now i choose close this program and use firefox to browse.

In summary, i cannot install all the updates e.g SP 1 for vista so can you provide me with links to individual updates that are necessary for internet explorer upgrade.

Today I went on one of the sites that I regularly go onto, but the site kept saying 'internet explorer cannot connect to the site, operation aborted' very often whenever I tried to load a different page. It mainly seemed to be happening on one page in particular and all the other sites I go onto were alright so I assumed it was just the site.

However, another site I usually go onto just had the same error a couple of minutes ago and I am not starting to get a bit worried that there may be something wrong with IE or my computer. The problem still mainly seems to be happening on that one site in particular and the error only occurred once on the other site and I have loaded quite a lot of pages on that site very recently.

Basically I just want to ask, has anyone else been having problems with IE saying this error message recently? And if not, does anyone have any ideas on how to fix my issue? If it helps, the site that I was having problems with was Serebii.net

Hi, perkinshershel, and welcome to the forums.
Have you performed any sort of autotuning disabling on your machine, or else 'tweaked' the TCP/IP settings?

FWIW, Vista doesn't do well with tweaked TCP/IP settings like XP does - it has an autotuning feature that dynamically changes the values for various settings n the TCP/IP stack as needed, thereby making the need for tweaked TCP/IP settings a thing of the past.

Just started using IE8, and getting the nag on many pages (while I am already on that page) saying IE cannot open this internet site....and if hit the return arrow to go back a page , and then reclick to the new page, it works. Whats up with that ? Am I missing some file or is this just another glitch ?
Didn't happen with IE7, and may just go back to it.

A:internet explorer cannot open the internet site...

Did you try other sites ? That is a quick check to see if the problem is your browser. And it would need to be a site that uses similar setup. So if the page that doesn;'t display has lots of javascript, go to another one that has lots of javascript, etc.

On one of my sites, sometimes one particular page wouldn't display. I had to re-edit it, upload, it works fine now. So it may not be your browser. It could be that site.

Usually associated with both explorer 7 & 8. Does not occur on all pages, so the problem is intermitant

A:internet explorer cant open a site, aborts opertaion!

You may want to try checking and making sure your privacy and security settings aren't set too high. To do this, go to tools>internet options>privacy tab then make sure it isn't set any higher than medium, in fact you might want to drag the slider all the way down just to test it, then over to security and do the same thing. Then click on restricted sites, then the sites button and make sure it's not in the list. After you've done this, check to see if it works. If it still doesn't I'd recommend going back to the general tab and click delete under browsing history, then delete files, delete cookies, and delete history. After that, get back to internet options and click on the content tab, then click clear ssl state and restart internet explorer afterwards. If this doesn't work, post back again with exactly what version of internet explorer you're using and word for word what the error says.

Ok here is my first attempt at help. I thought I have seen and cleaned it all in my life but this is gonna kill me. I have a friends PC running Windows XP Media Edition. I did everything to it to remove whatever it is that is on his PC as well as speed it up (short of adding more RAM). I want to add more to RAM to it regardless, but I would like to get it operating properly before I add the RAM. The problem with IE redirecting.....for some reason it doesnt redirect using firefox. But thats not a solution, just a cover up. Things like control panel load time, my computer load time, right clicking are all PAINFULLY slow. Prior to me getting to it you would wait 5 min for control panel, not its down to like maybe 30 seconds to a couple of minutes..DDS (Ver_11-03-05.01) - NTFSx86 Run by Rail at 17:51:20.46 on Wed 05/11/2011Internet Explorer: 7.0.5730.13Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600.3.1252.1.1033.18.1022.78 [GMT -4:00].AV: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 2011 *Enabled/Updated* {17DDD097-36FF-435F-9E1B-52D74245D6BF}AV: Lavasoft Ad-Watch Live! When opening Internet Explorer in Win 98 system, I get the following message "This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down" Details say Explorer caused an invalid page fault in module URLMON.DLL at 0187:la406b8d.

I have no idea why this is happening, for unlike my username of Mr. Spock, I am not too techy. I have tried to do start/run, etc., to find this file, but am told that there is no pathway to URLMON.DLL. Maybe that's the problem, no pathway. When I do a file search for it, it shows up about 4 times. I have run virus scans on the files and nothing is infected.

I downloaded some PCbug thing that cost $60, but it did nothing to fix this. Can anyone out there give me instructions on how to correct this problem in a way that a retarded dog could understand? I am not afraid to go into the registry, but would need detailed instruction. I would really appreciate some help here. Thanks.

Hello there,
Everytime I type in a web address on the internet I get the following messgage:

***This program has performed an illegal operation and will shut down****

When I hit "ok" it boots me out.

My browser is Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0

What could be wrong?

A:Solved: Internet Explorer Illegal Operation error

<a href=http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q221/0/85.ASP> This </a> will most likely fix it.
BTW, to be honest with you my best advise is to upgrade to IE 5.01 SP1. You can get it <a href=http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/download/ie501sp2.htm> here</a>. IE 4.0 is going to continue to give you problems as you go further through time and 5.01 is the most stable release of IE Microsoft's ever released in my opinion.

Hi, I have IE version6.0. Running in a dell 1.3 ghz. I use No-Charge free Internet. IE use to open up automatically when my dialer connected to the Internet. I messed with the settings and changed it so I have to double click IE on the desktop when I have connected. How do I change it back so IE automatically opens? Thanks...Dan

A:How to make Internet Explorer open up automatically when dialer connects to Internet?

I'm not sure if this looks the same in IE6, but in Internet Options > Connection > Settings, is the Dialup Networking connection you are using the one selected there? When you launch IE, the dialup adapter should run.

I got this computer that I need to fix.... I connected it to my LAN connection, and windows XP picked up the connection, and it should be working, but internet explorer jsut doesnt work... I figured the network card was bad.... I changed it and now it is able to query a web page, but then IE gives me a message saying "Internet Explorer could not open the search page"....

Ideas?

PS: This person is using Verizon Online DSL, and the software is installed... we have cable... would that have anything to do with it not being able to connect? IU checked all the connections and the cables do work on other computers.....

I'm so frustrated.  Whenever I get an e-mail that has a link in it to the internet, I get the following error message:
                   Windows can't open file:
                   File:  ?hs=false&tok=02K3p2sCy-9m81

Then, it takes me to a menu that says I have to select one of about 10 programs to open the link in.  Of course I choose the Internet Explorer link.  It then opens the link as normal.  I'm operating Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 11.  I think it's a Windows problem because it started happening when I downloaded some freeware.  When I downloaded the software, it started installing all kinds of other programs on my computer.  I went into my Programs and Features and uninstalled everything I thought it had installed.  I must have deleted something I shouldn't have.  Please help!  Thank you!

My Sisters net book developed a fault within four days of setting up, in so far that access to the internet was not possible. Each time a site was typed in the error message could not open page would come up. I started the net book up in safe mode, by using MSCONFIG and changing the boot up with network but left all services etc running. Once booted I started the wifi connection and started IE11 and it loaded pages correctly. Reverting back to normal boot and the fault re-occurred.
I did notice however if I opened IE or Chrome before the net book had fully booted (started all back ground programs) I could access the internet for a short while before getting the unable to load page error.
Windows update and Netflix both work correctly.

Another problem with the laptop was the right click context menus. Some of them did not work and would make the laptop freeze for a short while. A thread on this site pointed to context handlers and in particular to one from Norton. Using the method quoted in the thread I was able to get the right click menus to open correctly.

I have always hated Norton and decided to remove it from my sisters net book. After removal and a re-start IE11 and Chrome now work correctly.

Prior to removing Norton I noticed that the context handler was built on the 26th of December 2014 and the fault on this net book started around the 29th.

A:Internet Explorer 11 and Chrome can not open internet page

Hey mate,

glad you got it working. Make sure you removed every trace on your computer by using the Norton removal tool: https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/...rProfile_en_us
- otherwise it might conflict with future antivirus programs. The built in Windows Defender works okay, but it is not great at catching all malware. Unfortunately, some of the other free antivirus programs have interfered too much with the Windows system, including Avast!, Kaspersky, etc. I actively use Defender, and give a manual scan of Malwarebytes.org 's free malware-removal program to compliment it. You might consider giving it a try (it is not an antivirus program, just a malware removal kit).

Another great way of ensuring fewer malware get loaded onto the computer is to always make sure windows is updated with the latest.

Cheers

I have a problem that started the other day. When I click on any of my Internet Explorer icons or shortcuts, the screen flashes but nothing pops up. The only way I can access the internet is through My Computer and even then I cannot click on some links, even through my email. I have tried accessing internet options, but it says the operation has been cancelled due to restrictions set by computer administrator. There is only one user account on here, and I am the computer administrator. I have virus, spyware, and adware on here, I have removed all threats, still no luck. I have even looked through the registry looking for restrictions but didn't see any. I am running XP. HELP Thanks

I've been having this problem for about a year now, and I just can't get it fixed. Whenever I try to open Internet Explorer it just flashes for less than a second, and then automatically closes. Also, I can't open Internet Options. I try to click on it from the Control Panel, but nothing happens. I try to enter inetcpl.cpl in Run, but nothing happens.

However, i've read on some other forums and threads here about looking for "inetcpl.cpl" in the System32 folder, and it is NOT there on my computer. I really don't know what to do now.
EDIT: After using Microsoft's Fix It program, inetcpl.cpl is back in the System32 folder, but nothing happens when I click on it. I tried to access it through the browsing fuction of Run, but it doesn't sure up there. Maybe that's normal, but I thought I should note it anyway.

NOTE: If this belows in a different section, please move it. I wasn't really sure.

I hope I'm on the right thread as I think this is security related but I'm not experienced enough to know.
I tried to put a screen shot here but it failed.
Anyway, this gets confusing to me.

Going to a website the site does open but as soon as it does, a dialog box appears on top of it that says;
Internet Explorer cannot open the internet site. Operation Aborted.
But the site is right there in full view. So, when I close the dialog box, the website also closes.
I thought the website was under attack by a denial of service thing. ??
So I went to another site and it opened with no problem BUT, when I clicked onto a link from within that other site, once again I got the dialog box opening saying Operation Aborted.
All that makes me now think it's my computer under some kind of attack but I haven't a clue from where.
I have AV running (NOD32 from eset) I have run scans for AV and syyware. I have aSquared running anti-spy in background. I use Spybot S&D and Spyware Blaster.
Have also used Windows own Live One Care to run an AV scan.
None of the above find anything wrong on my pc.

as a sidenote. pc is very sluggish and takes forever to open many web pages and I have not been able to open Wiredness at all since late last night. But since some pages open properly I put it down to possible problems with Wiredness site.

Hope I ccan get some help. Thank You Kindly.

Starting a new focused thread on a problem I have been having while on the internet. At random times while navigating using links from the page I am reading, I get "Internet Explorer cannot open the Internet site (the site I am trying to link to). Operation aborted." When this happens, sometimes I can click out of that box, go back or refresh and it picks up the page I was trying to get to. Sometimes I get the standard "Unable to connect" screen and have to close IE and start over, but not often. This happens on any type of site, youtube, speedtv and even here while switching forums. I have been helped greatly here by Billy3 and have a clean system as far as any malware is concerened. I have other issues as well but thought I would start over with this as it annoys all who use this computer( 2 people) while the other issues only bug me! Thanks.
