PC freezing or stuck on black screen after installing AMD Crimson in Windows 10 anniversary

Q: PC freezing or stuck on black screen after installing AMD Crimson in Windows 10 anniversary

Recently, my windows 10 anniversary update has either been freezing just after booting or is stuck on black screen after installing AMD Crimson. Even after rollbacking to version 16 from 17, it's not working. But when uninstalled or disabled, everything is working fine. How should I fix this problem? My graphics chipset is Radeon r9 m375 and my laptop is Lenovo Z51-70.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Windows 10 PCs Freezing After Installing Anniversary Update

The Windows 10 Anniversary Update is now available for download, and just as expected, users rushed to install it to get all the improvements that everyone has been talking about in the past few months.

Unfortunately, however, a number of PCs are hit with issues causing them to freeze after installing the Anniversary Update, and judging from the number of posts online, this isn?t quite an isolated bug.

Basically, what is happening is that machines freeze all of a sudden after installing the Anniversary Update, and the crash occurs at random moments, after booting to the desktop. There are reports claiming that PCs become unresponsive the second after they boot to the desktop, while others say it takes a few minutes for their systems to freeze.

At first look, it doesn?t seem like the problem is caused by third-party apps, as booting into Safe Mode and performing a clean boot make no difference, so it has to be something caused by the Anniversary Update, users believe.

How to fix the problem
According to posts in this reddit discussion, the easiest way to deal with the issue is to create Windows 10 Anniversary Update installation media using the Media Creation Tool and then perform an upgrade.

Here?s how reddit user /u/KuruQan describes the workaround that solved the issue in his case (keep in mind, however, that Microsoft has not yet acknowledged the bug, and an official solution is not yet available):

I just got my computer last week, and for some reason, screen goes black and nothing happens after i log off or switch user...then I have to restart computer to start it back up. Screen switch light still blue, so it doesnt sleep, and computer blue light stays on ( no blinking sleep indicator) so it just doesnt do anything after I log/switch. I already updated bios and graphics card which is nvidia 9500gs.
Any ideas?

A:Screen Going black- freezing or stuck when logging off/switching users

Slow shutdown/User log off can be a result of little ram, or frag. This was also a commom issue even with 4GB of ram prior to SP1.

Try defragging.

Are you using reg cleaners, or using any media extenders? (i.e., Xbox)

If it is a desktop you may want to see If it is using "Away mode", or "prevent idling to sleep" mode (this is common for extenders).

After installing the Windows 10 Anniversary Build (1607) startup takes about 90 seconds to complete. There is a black screen that appears after the HP logo and the spinning circle appears. This black screen is shown for about 90 seconds before startup continues. This problem occurred last year on this laptop when I initially installed Windows 10. It is definitely related to the fact that the machine has two video adapters. An AMD Radeon adapter and an Intel adapter. If I disable either adapter, it boots quickly. The problem with turning off either adapter is that the screen resolution is not correct. Circles look elliptical. I found a better fix for this last year but I have forgotten what it was. So now startup has regressed to the former problem. Does anyone know what the fix is? Before the anniversary update, it was working with both cards enabled.  1) This is NOT a virus. So don't even go there.2) I have used device manager to disable the adapters and  uninstall drivers. Windows 10 reinstalled drivers; no help3) Used AMDs device detection app; it reported the latest driver was installed4) Did a hard reset on the laptop

Good Morning,

For the past several months I have been having problems with my HP desktop computer. When my system reboots I sometimes get a black screen with nothing on it or it gets stuck on the windows logo or I get a blue screen with a bunch of writing.

The blue screen tends to happen with the computer goes into hibernation. So I changed my settings to that it doesn't happen but I would like to fix that so that I can give my computer a rest during the time that I'm not using it.

I have checked for malware, viruses you name it... nothing.

HP HPE-180t
Windows 7 SP1
Intel core i7 930 @2.80GHz
9.00 GB RAM
Kaspersky Internet Security 2013

If you need further info please let me know. ;)
ps I had wonderful support several years ago regarding my laptop.. thank you once again :)

A:Black screen, Blue Screen & Stuck on Windows logo

Hello Britt,

I would like to fix that so that I can give my computer a rest during the time that I'm not using it.

The best way to do this is to simply turn it off; it will also save on the electricty bills too.
When I am not using my machine, I turn it off, because here in South Australia we have the second highest electricity charges in the world.

I get a blue screen with a bunch of writing.

Can you tell us what the blue screen says; usually this is due to a recent hardware or software change; however, in your instance it might be the Hibernation feature that is malfunctioning.
Post back with the information about the blue screen, please.

Kind Regards,

Hi there,

I'm having troubles with my netbook that has never happened before. Lately it's been acting up. The netbook sometimes seems to go to a black screen with my cursor showing but cannot get out of the black screen at all. This happened a couple times now, and I'm forced to shutdown the netbook with the power button and restart it. This usually happens when I leave it idle while opened. Could this be a virus? I've had a couple viruses but I took them out. I did a full scan with Kaspersky Internet Security 2011. And an updated version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. The netbook was clean. I'll try to do a rescan and see what pops up. But is there any other tips as to how I should trouble shoot this issue? Thanks for the help!

If you had viruses, and cleaned them out, but are still having problems with the system........

You are better off backing up your data to external drive
Format disk and reinstall everything from scratch

That will be much easier in the long run

Hello I have trying to fix this issue and I was hoping someone could help me out. Yesterday morning I did a restart on my XP PC and after the restart it will not boot again. It get to the point before the spash screen and then nothing happens. Here is what I have done(in order):-Tried to boot into Safe Mode. It started loading files, and hung on /Windows/System32/Drivers/Fasttx2k.sys-After that I tried to do a Windows Repair Install from the XP SP3 disc. It went through copied all files, but on reboot it was same issue.-Went into recovery console and did a CHKDSK /R. That finished, I was told 1 or more files were fixed. Rebooted, same issue, still hanging on the Fasttx2k.sys file.-I have 4 sticks or RAM in PC. I took them all out and put them in 1 at a time. Same result all 4 times.-Put in a spare video card, Same result, still halting on Fasttx2k.sys -Went to recovery console and renamed Fasttx2k.sys to Fasttx2k.old just to see what happens. Now hangs on atapi.sys-Tried another repair install from XP CD, still no luck still hanging on atapi.sysI did not run fixmbr or fixboot because they both warned me that I may mess things up even more if I run them. I was hoping to salvage my system. At this point I am still not sure if its hardware or software issues. The drive seems quite responsive, its a 500GB Western Digital SATA drive. Hi all,

I have recently (since today) had an issue with my PC.

I came home after uni today, pressed the power button on my PC, it started up normal, showed the mobo splash screen etc... yet when it got to the stage of loading Windows (Vista) it just got stuck on the black screen that normally appears about 1 second before the "loading windows" status bar comes up. It just got stuck there on that black screen for over 10 minutes until I hard reset the PC. Then it gave me an error screen saying Windows hadn't been shut-down correctly and if I wanted to load it into safe mode etc. I just chose the normal mode and then it loaded Windows fine.

I then shut down the PC.

Later that day around 7pm I powered on the system again, and the same thing happened again. The only way I could get it working was to hard reset it and then it would boot after selecting "start normally".

So I have tried:

-Performing a Windows repair from the O/S disk, the repair program couldn't find any problems though, and consequently didn't repair anything.

-Restoring to yesterday before I have had issues.

What I need to know is if anyone else has had this problem before, or has heard of it, and possibly if there is a solution? I have tried searches, but I don't have a keyword/error code specific enough to find any real answers.

Could it be hardware or software related? Or both?

Alright, so I had Windows Vista installed and everything was fine. Well I wasnt completely enjoying Vista because I wasnt able to play all my games and run all my programs on it so I wanted to duel boot with Windows XP. Well I created the partition and rebooted with the windows XP disk in, I installed XP on the new partition I had created(d:), then I rebooted again, and once it loads BIOS and gets ready to load windows, it gets stuck at a black screen.

If I put the Windows XP CD back in and try to boot, it will come up with the "Press Any Key to Boot from CD" message, but if I dont press anything, it will just sit there forever.

I went in and tried to delete the partition and that didnt work, so I created and installed Windows on it again, and that also didnt work.

A:Will NOT Boot Windows. Stuck at Black Screen.

There are really only a few "repair" options in Recovery Console, and Recovery Console is your only option at this point.

From Recovery Console, get to the "C:\" prompt and type:

"fixmbr" -and-
"chkdsk /r"

and then restart.

If XP will not launch one or the other installations, you are going to need to use the command "bootcfg" in Recovery Console. However, I have never used this on a dual-boot system and so cannot help you with it.

But my guess is that the boot.ini file can be tweaked into giving you at least one O/S option. But do the first part I mentioned first. Pay attention to the chkdsk and report if it found errors or not.

Hey There
I've been trying to install windows xp on an old netbook for at least 3 weeks.I actually managed to create a bootable usb using a program called WinSetupFromUsb cause Rufus wouldnt worked.Everything went smoothly i finished the installation within an hour and installed the drivers which i found on a non official website due to the fact that the company that made this netbook (viewsonic) does not provide drivers on their official website.Everything looked neat untill i shut down my netbook. When i turned it back on it would be stuck on a black screen with a cursor.

At first i thought it would be a driver malfunctioning.Well i reinstalled windows xp and this time i turned the netbook off without installed any drivers and got the same problem.Ive tried using the windows restore console and overwriting the registry files and restarting into safe mode but nothing worked.

Sorry for my bad english im only 14

I would appreciate any help

A:Windows xp stuck at black screen with cursor

If the drive in your netbook requires drivers (SATA?) they need to be installed before XP is completely installed. IDE drives are OK but there's a point during the initial phase that says Press F6 to install SATA drivers. Unless the drivers are integrated onto the XP install disk or you install them during F6, you end up where you are with a black screen and cursor flashing. I have had this too when I forgot to install the drivers at F6 prompt. For some reason it goes ahead with the installation to the drive but when you restart and there are no drivers, it stops. Most of my SATA driver install disks that came with my motherboards were on floppy disk though. I think XP SP3 may have had some SATA drivers added, but I can't remember for sure. As far as I remember when you press F6 it looks at the A drive or floppy with no chance to change it to a USB stick or something else. If you can get into safe mode maybe you can try to install it there and reboot.

Hello guys, sorry if posted in the wrong section.
I have a problem in my dual boot machine.
I decided to remove Linux mint 17 from my dual boot with windows 8.
I used easeus partition manager to delete the partitions associated (root, home and swap).
Then I got unallocated space just before my windows partition. So I moved my windows partition to the extreme left possible. Then I merged this unallocated space with my second storage partition.
These steps required reboot (specifically the moving of windows partition). When I rebooted my PC I got an error that grub was not found. I realized that I had forgot to fix MBR and load windows boot loader. So I used windows 7 recovery disk (yes windows 7 as I don't have windows8 recovery or installation disk). I got a windows 7 style boot loader instead of windows 8's graphical one which has advanced recovery options built in. But I proceeded. Then eases did its job with the partitions. After a reboot now I am stuck at a black screen after entering my password with a movable mose cursor. I can only press Ctrl+alt+del. Selecting task manager from it does nothing.

Since I don't have windows 8 disks and windows 8 boot loader I am not able to refresh or reset my PC. Neither can I shift restart my PC to get advanced boot options.
One more thing to note, that while entering password, I noticed that the lock screen and account pictures have changed to defaults of a freshly installed windows.

Thnx for the patient hearing

First post, so please tell me if I make any errors. After having a frustrating malware which kept closing Malwarebytes, redirecting some links to other sites, disabling access to some sites as Symantec.com, I decided to follow a step by step guide to removing Malware, which I got up to a stage of using Combofix. The guide didn't warn me of any dangers, and I should've researched it, but now after failing the Combofix Microsoft Recovery Console, whenever I start up my PC, it's stuck on a cursor with a black screen. First of all, sorry for another new thread. I didn't see a general one for installation issues or one that fits my problem.

So, I started trying to update 8 to 8.1 from Windows Store. It went ok there, rebooted, installed and it got somewhat stuck around 83% during "applying PC settings" (don't know if it's exactly that in english, since mine is in portuguese). A few minutes later, black screen and after a few more minutes, it rebooted and went to the boot screen (Windows logo). However, it never got past that. Eventually, after many reboots, it restored to 8.0. I tried two times in a row and always the same problem.

Is there any solution?

My laptop runs Windows 7 HP 64-bit.

I was trying to repair install the OS from setup from my hard disk. When I returned after two hours, there was a black screen, and system was non-responsive. I waited for another half an hour, but decided to restart the laptop.

Since then there were two options in the boot menu:
1.Windows 7 2.Windows Setup Rollback

Either of them lead to the same black screen(even the backlight is off) after the windows logo. The black screen stays indefinitely long until I repeatedly press Esc/CtrlAltDel/CtrlShiftEsc, which causes reboot after some time

when I selected Windows 7 option and ran in Safe mode, a low res setup screen saying that
"Windows cannot complete the installation in safe mode. to continue installing windows, restart the computer"
appears and then the system restarts

Then tried repairing the OS from Command Prompt in the repair options. I tried bootrec, of which FixMbr and FixBoot ran successfully, but ScanOS and FixMbr showed 0 windows installations.

Since this step, the "Windows Setup Rollback" Option has disappeared from the Boot menu, but the back screen after booting and the "setup cannot continue..." screen still appears in safe mode.

I have windows 7 64 bit. I left my computer on over the weekend (was running a mine craft server from it) and I left to go on a trip. Sometime that night the server went offline. When came back today, I found m computer at the windows 7 recovery manager.

I have no clue what happened, my computer hasn't been acting up at all. I first tried a boot repair, and it didn't find any problems. I restarted it and a chkhd ran and it said that disks needed to be checked for consistency. I let it perform this and it began to "replacing invalid security id with default security id file xxxx." it finished but still got stuck on the black screen after windows loaded. I ran a memory scan and it finished without detecting any problems.

This black screen with cursor happens if I try to run in normally or also in any safe mode, so basically I can't do anything. I do not have any system restore points, there is no factory restore option (it's a gateway), and I do not have a windows 7 cd. Does anyone have any insight or suggestions? I've searched extensively and can't find any solutions. Thank you for any help, I'm kinda desperate. I really need my pc this week.

you can alternatively go into f2 for a diagnostic test to see what is failing (run all the tests)

Hi everyone,

I've run into a problem and I'm hoping someone can help. I've run into a roadblock and I'm not sure what to do next.

I found a motherboard and CPU that wasn't being used (new in box). Older LGA1156, but hey, still usable. Anyway, I had some other components and someone just gifted me a new video card, so I thought I'd throw a system together. Assembly went smoothly without issue.

The problem;
When I try to install W7Pro, the install gets to the point where it's just finished copying the files and is starting the splash screen before freezing (or occasionally rebooting). I've been going out of my mind the last few days trying to figure out how to fix this. I've reseated everything (CPU, RAM, video card, cables) with nothing working. I've tried another disk as well. Nothing has worked.

I decided to stick an XP CD (SP2). THAT installed without a hitch. So I'm really stuck as to how to proceed. I'm hoping someone here can give me some insight into where the problem might be.

The details;
Intel DQ57TML w/ Core i5.
80Gb SSD hard drive (and I've also tried a traditional HD as well)
Sapphire R7/260X
Windows 7 Pro (pre-SP1)
800w PS.
Internal DVDRW (tried external as well...same results)

Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

Try reducing the RAM to 2GB if you can. If not, then try 4GB. If same problem, swap the RAM and try again.

Hi there. Recently my computer has been crashing an awful lot. I am just doing a task and, usually if it does, it will cut to black. The computer doesn't make any noise and I have to restart it. Sometimes it will freeze on the screen, once it actually cut to a completely white screen.

I always thought this was because I was using Google Chrome, it always seemed to be whilst that was loaded. However now its happening without that. Also, Firefox has become completely disabled, I click on the icon and nothing happens.

So, I have no idea why this is happening! It's very worrying as I am starting a new year at college next week. I have run several anti-virus checks, SpyBot checks, that sort of thing.

Please help! You might just save my life :/

I didn't know where exactly this should go, so let me know if there is somewhere else it should be. I was cruisin' through the internet, next thing I know the only page that will load is the new tab page. So, like any hard working male, I restart my computer. Well, when i try to restart it after the windows graphic screen I get the 'Please wait...' and after a few seconds it goes to a black screen. A few more seconds it goes back to the 'Please wait...' screen. If left enough times, it will go back to the windows start up graphic and the process will begin again. I have tried to access the boot menu, but I am unable to because of the use of a USB keyboard. I have the availability of the mouse cursor, and I can use the keyboard in the 'Please wait...' and blank screen, but when it goes back to the start up graphic I am unable to use it. I have tried a few things I could think of. Plugging the USB keyboard into a different USB slot to see if my mother board gave it precedent, multiple restarts, spamming all manner of key combinations, and none of it has worked. Any help with this situation would be greatly appreciated.

A:Windows start up as usual. Please wait is stuck, with a black screen.

You will have to plug the keyboard as PS2. PS2 keyboards are not very expensive and a usb-to-ps2 adapter is about ?1. I am afraid that there is no way to get the USB keyboard recognized before the drivers have loaded.

Before this happened, I could put my computer on sleep without any problems. Now, when I put it on sleep, I turn it on, the screen freezes. I shut it down, start it again, and then the Loading Windows freezes. Another problem is a small one I felt like adding, is that the Windows 7 screen where it is loading up your computer, doesn't show for me. This is not a problem where other users could not log on. All mine does is have a black screen, then loads to my desktop. So it works fine, just that the screen doesn't show. Please help.

Can you boot into safe mode (F8)"
Do you have the win 7 dvd to do a repair install?

Do you have a backup, by chance?

On my 2nd X1 extreme, the first was bricked. Everytime I boot into Windows, I experience a freeze and afterwards a black screen after some time (a minute or so). The laptop became unusable in windows. I have all the windows and vantage updates. I disabled all remote management stuff in the bios, disabled all secure boot settings, set some keyboard preferences (swap ctrl-fn etc.) and changed my graphics adapter to discrete only. I tried windows restore and after experiencing some blue screens, that helps a bit: still freezing, but not always. When I reapply all windows and vantage updates the laptop goes back to the same behaviour: boot into windows and after a minute or so a total freeze, followed by a black screen some 5 seconds later and still later fans spinning up to full speed. The updates include the latest graphics drivers, and I think the issue maybe has something to do with these graphic updates, but not sure. Some more observations:- The laptop never froze when Windows was applying updates. This takes longer then the usual time to have it freeze.- During updating the laptop, when I logged into windows, I sometimes got a windows notification saying the gfx driver failed to start and windows is reverting to a generic driver. I can't remember exactly, but I think the laptop never froze when using the generic one. I run the machine in dual boot and on linux the behaviour is absent. It does have sleep issues in Linux where it also freezes when coming out of slee... Read more

This has been an issue that's eluded me for sometime. I'm not sure what caused it to start, but this is something that bothers me. It would be up to 1-2 hours before my computer will start freezing. Once this happens, it seems me processor skyrockets up to 70-80% and then freezing every 1-2 minutes before black screening.

This error was found in Application of Event Viewer:

Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected.

I'm not sure if this error is directly related to my issue, but I was posting as much information for you guys to work with.

I've been trying to install windows 8 via bootcamp on my mac, I have installed Windows 7 before but have removed that. I went through the whole process and burnt the iso on a disk, it creates the partition and restarts the mac, boots up and gets stuck on a black screen with a image of a fish on it, left it for about 40 mins and nothing happened. Any idea why this is happening? or what I can do to fix it?

Thanks for reading,

A:Windows 8 Customer preview, stuck at black screen with image of fish.

I have the same problem on my Alienware Aurora R3. I've tried unplugging everything but the mouse, keyboard and monitor and it still hangs. I did notice the first time my razer mamba wireless dock was flickering like mad, so it appeared it was having trouble initializing the USB ports. Still no luck. It does the first pass with the fish logo, reboots and then hangs after about 10-15 seconds.

My only thought was maybe trying to plug in a regular keyboard and mouse instead of the razer lycosa and mamba. Either that or do a clean install, but reinstalling and patching WoW and SWTOR does not sound like a good time. Frustrating.

my mother has a laptop, DELL Latitude D630, with Windows XP Professional on it.  It used to work fine, but one day gave an error message that the NTDSAPI.dll was not found, and suggested reinstalling the application. After clicking "OK," the screen goes black and the only thing visible is the pointer arrow.
I used another computer to download a copy of the file, and put it on a usb drive. I then rebooted the laptop, hit F12, and booted from the CD, using an Ubuntu CD.  I didn't install Ubuntu, I just had it run from the CD.  I then connected the USB drive, and used Ubuntu to copy the file to C:\Windows\System32
I then restarted the computer, and then got an error message that NCObjAPI.DLL was not found. I repeated the same steps above, rebooted again, and got an error message again that yet another file was missing.
At that point, I decided to try and find another way to fix this, since I had no idea how many more times it would have me replace a file.  Since this laptop was bought awhile back through Ebay, we have no microsoft XP Pro CD, to use the microsoft recovery console.  I found several online, but they all seem to be for Microsoft XP Home. After I download the iso and burn to a CD, using ImgBurn, I try to launch the recovery console on the laptop, but without success. Instead of bringing up a menu to open recovery console, it tries to install windows or something, and eventually gives a pci.sys error. I belie... Read more

FWIW:  The Recovery Console for XP Home is the same one for XP Pro.
I don't believe the Recovery Console is the cure for whatever is wrong...if system files are missing/corrupted, ti seems to me that you need either recovery disks or a Genuine XP install disk to even attempt running sfc /scannow or doing a repair or clean install.

Hello, I recently started getting a black screen when trying to turn on my laptop, a Sony Vaio running Windows 10. I am unable to download the DM log collector tool since I cannot use my computer at all. It stays on the black screen even if I let it sit for hours. It's possible that I backed up a Windows 10 file when originally upgrading from WIN7 but I'm not sure and if so, it would be on an external hard drive. What can I do? Please help. Thank you so much.

I built a new PC and installed Windows XP Home OK. Connected to the Internet without anti virus and picked up several viruses. Refomatted hard drive to clear problem and now cannot install past the Windows Setup blue screen. I can install Win98 on the same computer but neither CD nor boot floppy will install XP. Suspect hardware failure on motherboard or RAM. looking for diagnostic tool to test motherboard and or memory.

System begins installation after correctly identifying hardware but always stalls at the same point, blue screen with Windows Setup in white letters in upper left corner.

System is completely new with AMD XP2500 Barton CPU, M848A motherboard, 512mb of RAM, 80gb Maxtor HDD. OS would be Win XP Home.........

A:Error on installing XP Home - stuck at Windows Setup screen

First thing.....
When the bsod(blue screen of death) comes up write down the error and respond back. This will help us in determining what is causing the problem. I really doubt that you have a hardware problem. Since the system passes the initial post test.

Depending on what little nasty viruses you caught. Some are not deleted just by reformatting the hard drive. You may need to do a low level format to make sure your boot sectors are clean as well as your fat table isnt infected.

There are some pro's and con's to doing a low level format.
Pro's.....put's the drive back to like new status. Like you just bought it.
Con's....It takes hours to do a low level format, but It's dependant on the size of the drive. You can download the low level format tool from your hard drive manufacturer.

Before i shoot the gun let's see what this error message is telling us......

Hi, Shutdown the notebook.  Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to enter the Start-up Menu.  Select the Diagnostic Menu option ( f2 ) and run the tests on the Hard Drive and Memory. Post back with the results, including any error codes that may be generated. Can you also post back with the full Model No. and Product No. of your hp 2000 series notebook - see Here for a guide on locating this information. Regards, DP-K

So I had to delete my operating system (Windows 10) and reinstall it. After it was done I noticed the screen was being glitchy and 2 bars going across the screen, then after a few minutes it goes to a black screen. I tried pressing Carl+alt+del but that did nothing. I am able to get into safe mode, any other info I can provide. Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Hi guys,

I know there's many threads on this subject but none seem to answer it for me.

i7 950 X58A-UD3R Rev 2.0 16gb Ram GTX760. Pretty sure it's a Samsung 250gb SSD.

So I upgraded W7 to W10 via iso. Install made it all the way.

On reboot it's now suck on the black background, windows logo and spinning dots.

I've removed all wireless devices.

If you need any further info please let me know.

Any help would be appreciated

I would give it 15-30 minutes and then do a Hard Reset. Hold DOWN Power switch until the computer shuts down (probably about 6-8 seconds). Then, hit the Power switch to turn it back on.

Hey guys somebody recommended this site for me to ask about my problem. Anyway I have a problem with some games like GTA 5, Watch dogs, CS : GO in which "audiodg.exe" process continues to use more RAM after I start one of those games. This only happens when I play these games. I saw a bunch of other threads that said mainly update your drivers and check the enhancements issue. I originally installed my audio driver using Driver pack solution Ver. 14.9. But after seeing these threads I tried updating my audio driver. I tried downloading it from the official site and from a bunch of others but each time I do so and restart Windows just freezes at login screen and then I have to boot into safe mode and use system restore to remove the new driver. Right now my audio is working but I don't have the enhancements option at all. Sorry if I got any grammatical / spelling mistakes english isn't my language. I'm also not that good at computers so please help. Here are my Laptop specs or what I managed to get from the systemrequirementslab detection tool.

A:Windows Freezing at login screen after installing driver

Hello and welcome Chuck now can I make a very simple suggestion that you get a dedicated sound card? I run the Asus Xonar DG in all my desktops and have never had a problem and they are really cheap.
The GUI for the sound is just fabulous (or I think it is) for mixing and generating difference effects and if you are into gaming or music (like me - music) you will find the Xonar the real deal.

The other stuff you have ben trying to get rid of I am not quite sure what it is you are doing. The after market fix things I don't like that Driver pack solution as I have found they create more problems as sometimes than they solve.

Anyway take a look at this https://www.asus.com/au/Sound_Cards/Xonar_DG/ by the ay I run 5:1 systems off mine my favourite being the Logitec Z506 Surround Sound Speakers Z506 again not expensive at all and the sound quality really good.

A:windows 8.1 black screen after installing an update

Hello shafi19,

Your issue sounded exactly like mine. Even to the point of me, also, using the same fixes. (save the VGA try)

Good news! I got my computer back up & running by finally getting the System Restore to work.

For reference let me explain my whole situation in 2 parts. 1) ISSUE & 2) RESOLUTION

Last night I saw I had two updates from Windows Update. A "Security Update for Windows 8.1 for x64-based Systems (KB2964757) without KB2919355)" AND "Windows 8.1 Update for x64-based Systems (KB2919355)"
(see pic)

*EDIT* Also I notice now one updates says without the other? Never seen something like this, so maybe this was my issue???
I downloaded the updates, started installing, & went to bed. This morning I started my laptop up and it finished installing the update. I was able to log in and it loaded (seemed slow). ONCE LOADED it only showed a black screen with a working pointer/cursor.

I was able to access Ctrl + Alt + Delete, the Task Manager, & eventually restarted my laptop. Hoping a restart would fix it & eventually hoping to access the advanced controls from the boot screen.

This being my 1st issue with Windows 8, it took me 30 minuets to just figure out to use F9 to access my Advanced Startup Options.

Tried to restart using safe mode with & without networking. But everytime it kept showing the black screen. Just like shafi19, mentioned.

Anyhoo, jumping ahead of all my errors I'll focus on my eventual solutio... Read more
