Lenovo 3000k Vista, shuts off, now wont start up

Q: Lenovo 3000k Vista, shuts off, now wont start up

This had been my families computer for about 2 years now, we got it brand new. Worked fine until randomly from the vista desktop the computer shut off for no reason (no win update or anything). When I tried to restart the computer, it booted to the desktop but before anything could be done it quickly shut off again, and now wont restart at all (no lights or anything). I'm assuming a faulty power supply unit is the problem but I'm not positive. If someone might know something else or has had the same problem please help. Any knowledge is appreciated!

Preferred Solution: Lenovo 3000k Vista, shuts off, now wont start up

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi loserspearl,

It could be either a software fault(malware) or a PSU fault. You could boot into the BIOS first and see if the issue appears there aswell. Just press DEL during startup and you will be presented with a blue/white screen. Have a look at the temperatures as you see if the computer does the same thing again.

You can also try to boot into safemode (Press F8 during startup) and see if it does the same thing. Let us know the results and I'll get back to you with further instructions.

A:Computer wont start it shuts down

Hi dutem and welcome to TechSpot

Yes this can be software or hardware related (ie Power Supply)

But I think your best option is to start with software.

Do you have the Windows setup CD ?
If so, you will need to start your computer with it and go to the Recovery console (the black Dos screen basically)
Once there, try doing a Check Disk, command line will be:
chkdsk /r

Once Check Disk has finished repairing any files, type Exit and restart your computer (hopefully it will start normally)

Hello, long time reader first time poser here. i searched posts for the better part of an hour now and have not found anything to help with my current issue.

I built my PC about a month and a half ago and its been working fine:
AMD 3500+ with cooler master liquid cooling.
GeForce 7800GT
2gb of corsair XMS dual channel ram
Asus A8N pro (the one below the fatality board)
antec 500w power supply (with the dual channel 12v rails)

my temps Normally run around 34c to 40c for everything and i have not had a problem till today. i loaded up my computer and when i got into windown about 10 mins into it windows went through the actual shut-down. i restarted and it did the same thing i re-started one more time and it said that i was in fail-safe mode. NOW it will sometimes not even power up completely...like it will turn on then immidetly turn off. so i tried clearing the CMOS via the jumper and im getting the same thing. any help would be apperciated as im about to pull out my hair here.

A:Windows shuts down randomly, PC wont start.

try turning the computer off at the switch on the back next time, and see if it starts straight away
when it starts in safe mode it usually indicates a software problem
in msconfig / startup,
untick the boxes and see if it starts normally
when it closes down immediately
m/b shorting
faulty power supply
check all plugs are securely in their socket
tap f8 when booting and from the boot options try
last known good configuration

you seem to have more than one cause of the problems, hopefully the above will isolate something to start on
try setting it up out of the case with
to see if it stays on

Alright. I'm hoping this isnt a hardware issue but I'm posting in this forum just in case. When I turn on my computer it does not start, and it will eventually shut down. There is no signal from the monitor, so accessing the bios is useless.

I have four fans in my pc, and I've opened up the case to find that the power supply fan works immediately, upon getting power after I turn the computer on. But the back fan, the cpu fan and the graphics card fan don't work, or actually they will spin briefly right before my pc shuts down.

I know it isnt a cpu overheat because my motherboard would make a loud beeping noise, as I have heard before when I built the pc. However, I do hear a weird screeching from what I think is my harddrive.

I did download a virus recently, an .exe file and was stupid enough to open it. However I did a virus scan with Symantec and I thought I had cleaned it. My computer has been able to turn on and off several times after that, so maybe the virus was working its way past my computers security with successive shutdowns.. or maybe it overclocked my hard drive? I don't know, but I need help with this one. Let me post my pc specs if I haven't.

EDIT: Specs are next to my name, I did replace the graphics card about two years ago so I could update that, but I dont think its relevant to this issue.

My Lenovo Y510P does not always start up. I often have to press the power button multiple times. The keyboard lights up but it does not boot up. When it  finally does start up it runs fine but shuts itself off after 20-30 minutes. This only happens when the computer is shut down. I can restart it w/ no problem when it is running. I never lose any files and it runs fine until it shuts off. When it comes back up I never lose files and chrome even will restart the open tabs from when it shut down if I want it too.I am on windows 10 so there are no bios updates for that on the Lenovo site.I have tried running with and without the battery, and with and without the power cord and the same thing happens.I have also tried resetting CMOS by removing power cord and battery and holding power buttton for over a minute, but to no avail.Anything else somebody can suggest?

Hi, im new on here but have used the site many times when looking for solutions to my problems.
I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 (win 7) which ran out of battery and shut down as normal. When i went to restart it it said that it could not restore the session so i could try again or delete the data and start again. I initially went for the restore (twice) but it failed to load up, causing the machine to abruptly shut down. I the decided to use the delete session and start again option which again, did not work and led to the machine abruptly shutting down.
I started the machine up again and was prompted to runthe startup repair software which again caused an abrupt shutdown. I managed to start in safe mode which lasted for 5 mins but again shut down abruptly.
On the last start up i got a blue screen saying something about a serious error, it only stayed on screen for 20 secs or so so i couldnt write it down.
I cant do anything as the machine shuts down anytime up to 5 mins after powering on - never getting windows 7 running.
The fan is also running constantly and appears to be working very hard.
I have not installed any new software (to the best of my knowledge)
Is it a HDD problem? or something else?
Can anyone please shed some light as to why this is happening and suggest a fix if possible. I need my computer back!!!
Thanks in advance,

Hey, thanks for reading this! I'm completely new to the forums, and am here for this question only, as I'm at a loss of what to do. My Lenovo Z70-80 has been dead for months now for a second time. The first time, my dad and I figured it was the charging port, and he replaced it. It worked again for a while, and then the same thing happened. Nothing had been done to damage the AC adapter or the charging port itself this time, so recently we ordered a replacement AC adapter to try and see if that was the problem, as the one we had had been chipped away a bit. I just got the package today, and plugged the PC in. immediately when I pressed the power button, it started up, but after a few seconds, it simply shut down. I've tried starting it up again a few times more, and sometimes it does nothing at all, sometimes it does the same thing as the first time. One thing I noticed was the occasional blinking orange light at the front of the PC, which started up most times I tried the power button (without the screen reacting).  In conclusion, I hope this made sense as I'm pretty much illiterate when it comes to computer issues, but I hope someone is able to help me out on this. It's been a major inconvenience to have this laptop dead, especially right now with college applications, studying, research, etc. Thank you so much for reading this far!

I bought this laptop in 2014, and had a great time with it. After roughly 2 years, the GTX860M died... booting up would result in a complete freeze before i could even log in. No BSOD whatsoever, just a complete freeze. Yes, i even reinstalled windows multiple times and tried to reinstall the drivers in safemode, nothing helped the situation. I could get around this by disabling the nvidia gpu in the BIOS, which was tricky, since the BIOS itself would freeze aswell after roughly 15 seconds. Then, the past few days my laptop screen would disable itself (it would just shut off, only my second monitor would work and hold all my windows, as if my laptop screen wasn't there). It also wouldn't boot properly from time to time either, the keyboard would light up (sometimes i couldn't change its brightness, and sometimes i could) but the screen would never turn on. I did some research and what seemed to help others was holding down the powerbutton for 10 seconds (didn't help), some even unplugged the battery and drained the system of power (which i did aswell, also didn't help). After that, the system would refuse to fire up at all. I can't get to the BIOS, the keyboard won't light up, i can't get to anything through the button next to the power button (forgot it's name). The power button just lights up for 5 seconds, and that's it. I checked the motherboard to see if anything blew, haven't found anything so far. i tried to switch the places for the RAM, doesn't help eit... Greetings. Yesterday i went back from work and got wet by rain. Unfortunately, my bag with my Lenovo Ideapad Y410p got really wet. And my fault is, I directly turn on my laptop at home, and as expected it wont start. That day i decide to let it dry and try again next day. In next day, I try to turn in on again, but it wont power up. When i press power button, power indicator (and power button light) just flash for 1 sec, and flash again every 3-4 sec. The fan works. When i plug in charger, indicator led shows it charging. What could have wrong? Please help.

Hey guys!! So yeah, I have a Lenovo Ideapad Y700 15ISK laptop. It's a really cool laptop! And it's a monster in gaming! Also, it's new. I had it with me for about 2 months now. I have no negative comments about this laptop. This laptop was my dream laptop. I always take care of it and made sure it is in top condition.  But you see, One day, like 3-4 days ago (sunday), when I got home I turned on my laptop to update my excel table for my expenses, it was bout 90%. After that, I took a nap leaving my laptop still turned on. When I woke up, I saw it was 10% percent. Of course, like any normal person would do, I plugged in the charger. To my suprise, It suddenly turned off by itself right after I plugged in the charger to the wall socket. Thinking that It just got lowbat, it was all right for me. Or so I thought. After that, I noticed that there were no lights that indicate that it is charging in my laptop. Please help!!! It's been 3 or 4 days now and I still can't use it!!! It won't charge, it won't turn on because of the lowbat and I can't fix it.Any ideas?? (i have a background on Electronics Engineering if it matters) i did some analysis. 1. I'm pretty sure that the battery is okay, but of course it's lowbat cause it shutdown at 10%. 2. My charger is perfectly fine. (I tried it on another y700 at a store, also, my laptop does not charge with another y700 charger) 3. I do believe that it is in the hardware because, like I said, the light indicator shou... This is common if Windows isn't activated or is pirated. This can also occur from Antivirus protection being to strict or incorrect settings in internet explorer.

Therefore, is Windows legitimate and Activated? Have you made changes to Internet explorer? Had any other problems recently?

My computer has worked fine in the past but now i am unable to even reach my desktop. I beleive this is due to a corrupt windows vista file. Whenever i boot up my computer it usually gets to the screen with the windows logo and a loading bar, once it gets there a blue screen with white writing on it flashes up for less than 3 seconds. It says something about a Physical Crash dump, after about 3 seconds it disapears and my computer will restart. I have tried repairing my computer from the windows vista cd using the startup repair recovery tool, but i cant make it that far before the blue crash dump screen appears and my computer restarts. So i basically am unable to use my computer at all. Please help.

I had the same issue a couple of months back,i then also met someone in one of these forums with it again

I'm not saying its 100% this problem but we had an infection on the PC and after an update the user32.dll file was missing and upon reboot thats all it ever seemed to do

I installed Ubuntu and downloaded the user32.dll file, then i forced the file into win32 folder and rebooted but that took about 3 weeks and the other guy just ran the install disc but had to do a full re-install as the repair wouldn't work

I'm really not sure if there is other issues that it could be or if there are other fixes

"the cpu wen press to come on it makes a loud noise an starts beepin "
Please try to be a bit more concise.

I think this is where we need to look.
Is the loud noise like a long chalk board sound?
Often that means a disconnect.
Check the seating of all connections.

What is the pattern of the beeps?
1 long 2 short or something different?
Here is a decent site for their meanings.

"the doesnt come on i think its on the light which shows as orange"
This is a mystery.
Exactly what is orange?

Is this a laptop or a Desktop? If it is a laptop, then you probably need a new battery, you can test this out by removing the battery and plugging it in and powering it up. That should work. If it is a Desktop, then your PSU has probably gone bad and needs to be replaced. You can buy a new one pretty cheap. But since you're bringing it to Best Buy they will charge you an arm and a leg or convince you to buy a new computer (there on sale today!)

Hi Sebas, welcome to the board.

Here is two things you may like to try. Boot the pc into safe mode by pressing F8 when you turn on the pc which leads you to a boot option. Select safemode.

When you are in safe mode try restore the computer to some earlier restore point. If not helping, backup you data in safe mode then reinstall Vista.

The problem might have been causing by Virus and your bf unplugged it in a panic.

Hope this helps.

I have inserted vista disc rebooted but nothin happens just goes back to the error message. I dont think my pc booting from the DVD drive that why this happening/cant find disc,

I know that it not starting from DVD due to HUUGE problem with DVD driver and SP2 not working together so having to not allow pc to start via DVD drive....

Really anoyed as vista becoming a right pain, please help.(tried microsoft support but they wont help me cos i have a OEM in my product key which is bull tbh.

A:Vista 64/pc wont start, error

It may not be an issue with SP2, but a simple setup issue (I hope). If this drive is otherwise working, this is even more likely. Try the following:

To boot to the CD you may need to change the BIOS to make the CD-drive first in the boot sequence. To do that, reboot and wait for the screen that tells you the F key to push to access the boot menu or boot setup. Push it quickly. Make the changes, save your work, and exit. Put the CD in the drive and reboot. When prompted, push any key to boot from the CD.

Once there, select Recovery Environment and then scroll to the menu of options and select and run Startup Repair. Hopefully that will repair the problem. If not, post back with what happened (whether you were able to boot to the CD and whether you could run Startup Repair and if startup repair said it worked or if it generated an error message (and if so, please post the exact message here word-for-word)). Also note whether the same error message as before still persists. Then we'll look into trying to determine the cause (that file and code will help), finding other ways to resolve that cause, and try other ways to repair the problem (but we might as well start with what the system suggested).

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

A:vista wont start (need urgent help)

1) When you say you can't format your D drive, what error comes up when you try? Are you sure you're right-clicking the drive and selecting 'Format...' (obvious question, probably)? Post back here with the message (a screenshot of the message would be ideal) and I'll see what I can do to help.

2) The Windows Boot Manager has been installed on the Master Boot Record due to you firstly installing the Acer-specific Vista disc onto the D drive, followed by the correct Dell-specific Vista disc onto the C drive. It's designed to give you a choice between which OS you want to boot into. Once the OS has been wiped from the D drive it should hopefully revert back to its previous working state (i.e. auto-booting into the correct Vista installation). If not let me know and I'll tell you how to restore the MBR manually.

3) When you say you try to surf the Internet and the screen is small, are you referring to the size of the web browser window, or do you mean the screen resolution? Depending on which it is; you can either maximise the window by click the Maximise button at the top-right of the window, alternatively you may need to change the screen resolution if everything appears small. In which case right-click on the Desktop area and select 'Personalise', then choose 'Display Settings' and adjust accordingly.

Hope this helps.

I have a dell inspiron 1525 laptop that refuses to get past the "Microsoft Corporation" scrolling bar on boot up. I have run various diagnostics and hardware seems fine. I am guessing its some sort of operating system problem. The laptop is about 4-5 years old and I have had no problems until recently. I previous used McAfee and recently changes to the AVG free antivirus product, which I have run on xp machines previously. if I boot the laptop in safe mode the boot stops when loading
\windows\system32\DRIVERS\AVGIDSEH.sys which I am guessing has something to do with AVG?!
I dont have a boot or repair disk so was looking for any advice/suggestions on how to proceed?

Thanks for any help

A:Please help, my laptop wont start and have no vista cd

if you know linux you can boot to a live cd and copy files over to an external hard drive. if you dont, you could use BartPE or somthing like that to move the files.

So last night at a failed attempt to watch some episodes of 'Jersey Shore' on line (please dont judge me)
I was asked to download some programs which i promptly did but then, regretting that i had downloaded random programs I uninstalled them....

however that didn't happen before I had to reboot the computer in safe mode after it crashed.
Having rebooted, uninstalled the crap and rebooting again, I now find myself in the situation where I cant open firefox, Itunes, or even my task manager...

Can someone suggest a way to attack this problem?

I will never watch tv online ever again.....
