Lenovo ideapad S540 14IWL - HDMI port does not work

Q: Lenovo ideapad S540 14IWL - HDMI port does not work

So I bought a new s540 without an os. Installed Windows 10, ran automatic updates, installed other drivers manually etc...When I connect the laptop to an external monitor nothing happens - trying on different monitors and cables.I thought I had a damaged product so went back to the store for a replacement. A few days later I got the replacement - same exact problem. The sales representative said it is probbly a problem with the whole line. Is that so? I just returned it to get my money back. Is it a known problem? I see that I'm not the only one having this problem. I've been a Lenovo user for most of my life and would like to remain one. Can you please suggest a fix? I'm not going to buy another s540 / ideapad model until I can find a solution. Thanks, Samuel

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I purchased a new Ideapad S540-14IWL recently but couldn't find a way how to connect a secondary display via HDMI. I use Windows 10 Pro. So far I've tried the following:- using different monitors;- using different HDMI cables;- installing newer and older Intel VGA drivers;- going through the Windows 10 video troubleshooter;- switching off the laptop and/or the monitor and powering them in various sequences (as suggested in a few articles I found on the Internet);- tried to switch to the second display using Win+P, of course. No matter what, Windows is not able to detect a connected display (even after I manually push the 'Detect' button). The display itself finds no signal. Surprisingly, the Lenovo diagnostics utility couldn?t identify a problem after running both the Display and the Display Interface tests. The laptop is flashed with the latest BIOS. I read other Lenovo models have similar issued when AHCI mode is selected in the BIOS rather than RST. However, switching to RST comes with a warning that the controller change will result in all the data being erased, which I can't afford.  Any help on that issue will be appreciated.

Hello,I used my laptop for a couple of days and I couldn't get to make Lenovo performance mode (pressing Fn + Q to change fan speed) to work. I've seen this thread, but I don't want to risk installing wrong software. Anyone knows how to solve it without manually going to BIOS every time, and if that software is compatible with my laptop? Edit: I forgot to mention, whole software/drivers are up-to-date, both via Lenovo Vantage and via Windows Update (System version: Windows 10 Pro 1909 18363.476)

So I got a new laptop, a Lenovo s540-14IWL. Everything is great about it, other than the fact that the bezel is not glued properly to the screen at the right and left edges.I had this problem on the original one I got and also on two replacements. I decided to keep it because the price was very good and I really like it. The other options were not nearly as good and as a programmer I need to have a computer all the time. I was wondering if someone could offer some help?I got 2 options:- Live with it.- Send it to the lab under warranty as it's only about a week old (Problem is I saw their work on my cousin's laptop and it wasn't good). Can it cause any further damage to the computer if I leave it like that. To the eye it's not as bad as it looks in the picture. One important note: If I hold it with my hands it will glue back and look perfect for a few minutes (When it was new it stayed for longer) until it goes back to its' original state. Thanks a lot for taking the time to read my post! Here are some pictures:When staring in front of the laptop:Right Side:Left Side:After touching it with my fingers for a few seconds:

Hi guys, Looking to purchase the latest Lenovo Ideapad s540 (81NE003GIN). The standard config is an 15 8th gen and comes with 8gb of RAM and a 1TB SSD. I'd like to know what if any parts of this laptop are upgradeable, without possibly affecting the warranty. Can I upgrade my RAM to 16gb? Also, I've been told the laptop screen has a max brightness of 250 nits. Is that sufficient enough for viewing videos in HD? Also if any of you current s540 owners have any issues with baclight bleeding of keypad issues, please let me know - looking to purchase this asap. Much thanks!

Hello, Brand new P1 laptop and I cannot get the HDMI port to work when connected to an external monitor (HDMI-to-DisplayPort).  I've scoured the interwebs, from AskJeeves to HotBot, and cannot find an answer that works.  Stuff tried so far: -Making sure all drivers/BIOS were up to date (they are).-Multiple cables.-Making sure that screen extend is on.-Monitor works.-Checked the BIOS settings for any clue of port disabling.-Pressed the reset button on the bottom of the case.-Used four-letter words.-Sprayed incense on Jobu. Now I'm just using one 4K 15.6" laptop screen like some kind of peasant.  Please help!

A:New P1 - Can't get HDMI port to work

Can you try it from Linux? When I had problems with my V510 with HDMI Audio, I downloaded Ubuntu and booted it from USB. It worked perfect there so I know it was an issue with Windows 10 and Lenovo compatibility. You can even try it without installing it completely, just use it in test mode. This way you can see if it's a hardware problem or something wrong with BIOS or software compatibility. In my case it was solved by a BIOS update after 9 months.

Hello, I'm essentially re-posting here, as my original post was marked as solved by another poster, when indeed the problem persists.  I've got a Dell external monitor hooked up to my brand new P1 laptop, using the HDMI port on the left side of the laptop.  I'm using an HDMI to DisplayPort cable to connect to the monitor.  I know the monitor (and the port on the monitor) work, because I can plug it into my old laptop and everything works fine.  I've searched around the internet and posted to this forum, and tried the following: -I've got the most up-to-date BIOS/drivers/firmware available from Lenovo.-I've tried multiple cables to take that out of the equation.-As stated previously, confirmed the monitor/port itself works with another laptop.-Tried to manually ask Windows to detect the display.-Turned on screen extension.-Used a paper clip to hit the reset button at the bottom of the case.-Instructed the BIOS to wait 2 seconds before enabling external displays. Just FYI, so that there's no confusion and I'm as clear as possible: it doesn't matter when I plug in the monitor (i.e., it's plugged in during boot or I plug it in after boot), the monitor is not detected by the laptop, and the monitor doesn't see any signal from the laptop. Is there something really simple I'm missing?  Like the P1 doesn't support HDMI-to-DisplayPort?  It seems unlikely, but I feel like I've tried everything I know of to this point and just can't get ... Hello! I am opening this thread here because I haven't found any specifics about the HDMI version on this model despite searching a lot, which is quite baffling to be honest. This model (320-14IKB) has an HDMI port but it's version is not specified. Notice that I am not asking for FPS for gaming since I know the HD Graphics 620 is not really suited for that. I just want to know how high of a raw refresh rate I can achieve through the HDMI port.

I've got a gateway DX4680 desktop, and a dell s2409w monitor.

What went wrong –
hdmi connection between computer and monitor stopped working about 35 days after getting the computer.
Had no problems with the hdmi connection between computer and monitor prior to that.
Worked completely fine.

What I’ve tried to fix it:
1)
Replaced the hdmi cable – didn’t work
2)
Got some adapters to test out the hdmi ports on both the computer and the monitor – ran from the hdmi port on the computer with a hdmi-to-dvi adapter into the dvi port on the monitor – that worked.
Used another computer that has a dvi output and with a dvi-to-hdmi adapter into the hdmi port on the monitor, that worked.
So it seems that the hdmi port works on the computer, and the hdmi port also works on the monitor, just can’t get it to work hdmi to hdmi again (it worked fine for about a month, so something has changed, apparently).
3)
Also tried setting the computer to an earlier restore point (date prior to the problem starting) – didn’t work.  The problem started after a window's critical update, as best I can tell.  Thought if the update caused
the issue, then going back to an earlier restore point would resolve it, which it didn't
4)
Also ran windows updates and installed all ... Read more

Hi Shweta,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that the HDMI feature is not working as expected in your G580 Laptop, please check by performing the Flee-Power in the computer then re-install then connect the HDMI and check by pressing Winkey+P select ?Projector Only? option. Below are the steps to check and resolve the issue:

Remove the battery and any other peripheral device connected to the computer.
Hold the power button for 10-15 seconds and then connect only the AC Adapter and try to turn ON the computer.

Do post us back if the issue still persists.

Hello.I recently bought C340 14IWL I5 8265U with VGA onboard Intel Graphic 620.On the back of the device, I can see two slots to release the heat but only the right side is working. I have reviewed some documents from User Guides, Hardware Maintenance Manual and can see the cooling system with two fans.I also know some version with VGA NVIDIA and I wonder if only these versions have a cooling system with two fans? The reason that I ask this's because I often see fans run very fast and make noises. This is my first time using a laptop from Lenovo so I don't know if it's normal or not ? My previous laptop from Asus was rarely able to hear the noise from the fan.And one more thing. I bought this laptop for 20 days and use Conservation Mode. Is full charge capacity (in Lenovo Vantage/Battery) reliable ? 10 days ago I checked and found 45Wh/45Wh(Design). 3 days ago it suddenly reduced to 41/45Wh, then i turned off Conservation mode and fully charged and now it's increased to 42.9/45Wh. (With 10 Cycle count)Thank you

The video below show the inside of the C340 model without the discrete Nvidia graphics, and it does indeed have only a single, but larger, cooling fan than the two fan version.     C340 Fan Removalhttps://download.lenovo.com/lts/RCNW1860/FOF/RCNW1860-IdeapadC340IdeapadFlex_REM_FRU_09_Fan.mp4 More C340 parts removlal/repelacement videoshttps://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/HT508522 I cannot answer you battery questions, but in my experience lithium batteries last longer in conservation mode (lifespan).  Cheers,  Cheers,

I have had my X1 yoga for just over a month now and I didn't test the hdmi port until now. To my dismay it doesn't work. It doesn't recognise displays and I have tried different cords and different displays so its not an external problem. I have also updated my drivers and even did a system restore and the hdmi port still won't output. It's most likely broken. What's my best course of action? Could I get a new X1 as the one I received is clearly defective and it's only been a month of usage. Who's to say more things won't break in the next few years?

Would this be possible or am I just looking at an onsite fix?

Dear All, I just received and opened the IdeaCentre K450 today (Also to clarify, because I bought it in the UK, it is a UK version of K450). Have things sorted mostly, but only got one problem, which is the HDMI port. On the back of K450, there's a HDMI port. I assume that is the port from Mother board, not the discrete GTX 650 Graphic Card. I tried to connect it to my monitor's DVI port via a HDMI to DVI cable. The monitor sortof recieved signals from the PC within 1-2 seconds (but no display on screen at all. Reason I am saying the monitor kindof received signals is because the LED of the screen flashed from Yellow to Green, which indicates that it actually got some input). But then nothing happened. The DVI ports coming from the Graphic Card worked fine, though, but they are not the HDMI port. What I have done after that:1. Updated the NVIDIA drivier (Gefore GTX 650)2. Downloaded the Intel VGA Driver from Lenovo Support and tried to update the on-board video driver, but it failed and the system complianed this driver is not for the hardware. Though I update the NVIDA driver, it didn't solve the problem. Not quite sure what to do next. My guess is: The integrated video component on the mother board might not work properly? Because I noticed that the HDMI port as well as the VGA port didn't work at all, so I assumed that mother board driver doesn't work properly. But unfortunately the drived I downloaded from Levono didn't work on my P... Read more

hi tidus_chan,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I believe that the computer is working as designed

There are two places where Display may come from,
    A. Built in Graphics
    B. Expansion Cards

The original settings is that a computer will have no (B. Expansion Cards), (Only the A. Built in Graphics)
Once an Expansion card is Attatched, The Built in Graphics will be disabled automatically.
This explains why all ports on your A. Built in Graphics are not working.

The A. Built in Graphics and the B. Expansion Cards will not stay active together.
