I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi, I have a 2nd gen X1 Carbon (Type 20A7) that I bought about 3 years ago. I bought it configured with a 256GB SSD, but I'm quickly running out of space and would like to upgrade the drive. I have a few questions about this: I believe this generation of the X1 Carbon came with a max SSD size of 256GB, but does the system/motherboard, etc. support larger sizes? Is there a limit? I'm aiming for either 512 GB, or possibly 1 TB.Will the size of a new drive I choose impact speed/performance in any way?Lenovo doesn't seem to sell a 512 GB drive or larger drive for this system. Can I use a non-Lenovo one (i.e. bought from Newegg, Amazon, etc.)? I searched around on the Lenovo forums and it sounds like it's a stanard M.2 drive in the 2nd gen X1 Carbon, so should I be fine as long as I get an M.2 drive?M.2 drives have a few different connector types: B, M, and B+M. Does anyone know which connector type I need to get for the 2nd gen X1 Carbon?I'm planning on cloning my current drive onto the new larger one. What kind of adaptors, etc. would I need to do this? Also, I've never cloned a drive before so please excuse me if this is a dumb question, but are there any issues cloning a smaller drive to a larger drive (i.e. the system only recognizing 256GB on the new larger drive)?Any other things I should keep in mind? Thanks in advance!

A:X1 Carbon Gen 2 (Type 20A7) SSD Upgrade

Lenovo lists 512GB drives as available, but there is no motherboard limit.  On that model, you need one that is described as SATA-3 (not NVMe) and size 2280.  Drives have B + M Key.  Not Lenovo drives should work, but I always suggest checking the seller's return policy in case of problems.

Since getting the machine, I've not been able to use the integrated microphone array at all. It is enabled, and I've given the apps I've tried the permission to use it. Both external USB-mic and headphones with integrated mic with 3.5mm plug work. I've tried downloading and reinstalling the Realtek driver from the support pages. No help. What to do? Using up to date Windows. April update did not help either.  ----(As a side note since I couldn't find a place to give feedback: it would be nice if the Pro Dock would stop crashing. Or at least would recover without removing the power cord. And I'm pretty sure that at the time I ordered the order page said that an ethernet adapter was included. No such luck. And the integrated on the chip fingerprint reader recognizes me maybe one time out of ten. I originally thought that it was broken, but I guess it just doesn't like me.)

I attempted to update the BIOS on my X1 Carbon type 20A7 using the bootable CD option. The previous bios was 1.09 and I tried to update to 1.26 (file gruj23us.iso).Booting from a USB gave me the error: ASSERT c:\edk2\MdePkg\Library\BaseLib\String.c(166): String != ((void *) 0) and then the update froze. The machine will no longer boot from the hard drive. However, it will still boot from USB.  Is there any way to get a working BIOS back on this machine? Has anyone else seen this error when doing a BIOS update?

This phenomenon typically occurs after a Windows 10 upgrade and can persist for several days with some breaks in between. Is this a hardware issue? How can I solve it?

Hi all, I happen to have a spare power adapter from my former W530. Can I use it with my X1 Carbon 20A7? Connector is the same but of course the W530 one is much more powerful, so I guess the question is: is the X1 protected against more Amperes than expected? Thanks and regards

Hi, During my visit to US in January and February 2014 I purchased the X1 Carbon 2nd Gen (Type 20A7). I got back to south Brazil where I live, it worked fine until October 2014. Suddenly the X1 Carbon didn't boot anymore and the backlight keyboard keep flickering. I realized it was a known issue and several customers had the motherboard replaced or even the equipment replaced.  I planned to reach the US customer service in a future visit to the US but I could not travel to the US from that time, so I tryed to reach the Lenovo customer service in Brazil and check with them to pay for the service and parts replacement so I could have my X1 Carbon working again. I called and told the problem, they said it was possible to fix and they would send me a budget proposal in 4 work days. The customer service took about two weeks to get back to me and surprisingly the budget I received was of U$ 3,650.00 which is the cost of a new X1 Carbon in Brazil ( I paid U$ 2,180.00 in the US for the top version). I am very upset with Lenovo, I lost all the confidence I had to the brand. My only hope is that a senior executive of US Lenovo headquarter would take this matter and help me get my machine fixed or replaced, even for a reasonable value as I could not use it since October 2014.I really do not have much hope that this will help, I am sure it would be different if I have had the opoortunity to get back to the US just after the problem arose but it is so sad, I was ve... Hello, I have a Lenovo B40-80.  The internal microphone is not working.  I originally bought the laptop with Windows 7 in 2015.  I upgraded to Windows 10 (probably the Anniversary update??) shortly after purchasing the laptop.  I have never attempted to use the internal microphone or webcam until yesterday.  Neither the webcam or the internal mic was working.  I was successfully able to fix the driver for the webcam and now I can record video and pictures, but it cannot record audio.  I have tried updating the driver for the microphone without success.  Yes, the microphone is set as default and it is enabled.  There is no external mic plugged in.  Please help.

Dear community, I have this rather special issue that I would like to ask for your assistance with. The case: I have a Lenovo X1 Carbon 2nd generation (20A7) running Windows 10 x64. One day, the touchpad stopped working, but initially by making the cursor jump around the screen when I used the touchpad and later with no response at all. Currently, neither the touchpad or the trackpoint work and only when combining all of my effort and luck (emphasis on the latter) I can get a response. For instance, I recently had luck reinstalling the UltraNav driver which made the touchpad respond, though rather "patchy", but only until I restarted the computer. The background: I bought the laptop while living the United States but have since moved to Denmark where I cannot use what remains of my warranty. I tried calling the Lenovo callcenter and an employee suggested that I enabled the touchpad in the BIOS and reinstalled the driver, but when that did not work, he fell short on advice. It seems that those guys are primarily there to help old people create a password and what not. The twist: I am aware that one excellent possible solution to my issue is that I can do a clean install of Windows on my device. However, I currently have a limited use version of some very expensive software installed and I need that in my daily work and cannot get a new version right away, so doing that would set me back quite a lot.&nbs... Hello and welcome,

It seems that you're leaning toward a software rather than a hardware problem.  You might try booting a live Linux USB flash drive to verify that the hardware works.

It's typical for ThinkPads to have international warrantees.  Have you verified your specific coverage?   SUPPORT above, then International Services in the Warranty and Repair drop-down.

If your machine is eligible for local warranty service they will probably reinstall the OS as a diagnostic - and possible repair - effort.  If you can isolate to a hardware issue as suggested above you might avoid that step.

Z.

Hello there!I've been having some issues with my screen on 2 gen X1 Carbon - it freezes and sometimes it starts to flash at the edges after I close my notebook and open it again, so I have to try to move it into the right position so it can unfreeze. Sometimes pressing on the certain places helps, at the bottom of the display near these dark lines. First I thought that the problem is in the display cable, so I installed a new one, but it didn't help. I noticed that touchscreen works fine even when display is blacked out. What should I do, maybe someone had some simular issues? Sorry for pics quality, I can attach better ones if needed. Thanks for any help!

This issue has been afecting me for some time, but as the warranty is coming closer to expire I decided to look into it. Since I upgraded to Windows 10 (at least that I noticed) my TrackPoint has stopped working. I checked the Lenovo assistant and all drivers are updated. Googled some solutions (like checking the setup screeen) and nothing was effective. The Mouse Control Panel shows the TrackPoint options greyed: http://i.imgur.com/yudv9WE.jpg  Before I go through the annoyance of calling the Lenovo/IBM support, is there any known solution for this? Thanks.

Hi, We've got one 20A7 X1 Carbon laptop that has developed a strange problem that wasn't solved by a complete format, reinstall of Windows 10, install of all Windows Updates & installing all updates & drivers from Lenovo Vantage. The problem is reproducable every time for this laptop only by... 1. Plug laptop in to OneLink Pro Dock which has two monitors attached2. Close Lid of laptop (the power settings are set to 'close lid whilst plugged in' = do nothing)3. Desktop Windows Manager (dwm.exe) goes to unusually high CPU (about 10% on this i7)4. Mouse pointer disappears and reappears on the screen, making it unusable.5. The Display Settings screen still shows the laptop screen, whereas on working machines, the laptop screen disappears from there whilst the lid is closed. Opening the lid again returns everything to normal. We've tried other docks. We've tried other monitors & mice. It looks to us that something in dwm.exe is trying to do something with the laptop display but not completing. We're wondering whether there is a problem with a lid-close sensor? Or something else? Device Manager is not reporting any malfunctioning devices. One change that we noticed was that prior to the Format/Windows-reinstall was that when the lid was closed the laptop screen was still lit and showing a display, whereas after the reinstall, the laptop screen turns off when the lid is closed but still shows in Display Settings. Does any... Hi all, I've had this B50 for 6 months now and finally decided to update to Windows 10 (Machine Type Model 80LT). Now that I've updated, everything seems to work great apart from one thing... the Mic in Skype does not seem to work at all. The Mic works 100% fine in voice recorder but in Skpe the most I can get on the Echo test call when I scream at the laptop is a distorted buzz. Otherwise it's pure silence. Steps I've taken:1) Updated Realtek driver to 6.0.1.7553 found on Lenovo Support Site2) Updated driver through Windows3) Played around with every setting for recording devices (disable effects, let programs take exclusive access etc).4) Correct Mic is selected in Skype, tried the few settings possible in there which do nothing for me.5) In the Lenovo Settings App, tried all the settings in there too which don't do anything. When I do start a call on Skype - Lenovo settings highlights the Mic in Orange like it's been activated. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I need Skype for work and can't be having to use my phone for Skype calls all the time!

I purchased my Lenovo Ideapad 320-15IAP on 9/14/17 and received in 9/19/17. It runs Windows 10 Home (64-bit). Upon initial boot-up, I was prompted to do all the Windows 10 Updates. Everything worked fine. Yesterday 9/20/17 I called someone on Facebook Messenger and had no issues. Then, today, 9/21/17, I tried to call and suddenly they couldn't hear me. I went through the following troubleshooting steps: 1) Used internal troubleshooter. The worst it could come up with was that I had a "generic" audio driver.2) Opened up sound properties, checked recording devices. Realtek was a) enabled, b) the default, c) not muted.3) Used automatic system and driver update, reboot. (Note it only recommended a BIOS update.)4) Manually uninstalled audio device/driver, reboot, manually reinstall audio device/driver from Lenovo website, reboot.(All the while, confirming multiple times that the microphone was enabled, default, and not muted. Also checking in other programs to see if it would work.) Nothing has worked. I don't know if this is something I can fix at this point, or if there's a hardware failure and I need to return/exchange the laptop. The computer itself insists that everything is working fine, at least in terms of drivers, and it is recognizing the mic. Note I do have sound, just no recording ability with the internal mic. Help?

You already did what I would suuggest, except that I would press the power button a couple of times with the main and coin-cell batteries disconnected and I would wait 15 seconds before plugging them back in.  Other than that, it sounds like a more serious (motherboard) issue.  Some of the 20A7 machines are still under warranty.  Did you check?

Hello

I recently reinstalled Win 7 on my HP Probook 4530s, and have encountered a few problems since.
The latest is that the internal microphone does not seem to be functioning at all through any programs that would use it (Skype, sound recorder etc).

It does appear in the audio devices control panel but not in device manager (although I don't know that it should?), and it says its working correctly but obviously this is not so!

Additionally, the sound was behaving erratically as well - it often will not work unless I click the test button on the speaker properties page. If I leave the computer for any length of time I have to repeat this.

I have downloaded the only audio driver that is listed here http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsuppor...Id=5060880&swLang=13&taskId=135&swEnvOID=4058 but this does not seem to have any effect.

Anybody have any ideas?

Depending on the used software it might happen, that it disables the microphone while ending the program (Skype, ICQ etc.)

First off , thanks for having this forum to help us with our issues!

I just purchased Aspire 5733z, 8 MB Ram, Windows7, 64 Bit Notebook!
I have been setting it up a little each day.
The Built-in MICROPHONE does not work when making phone calls using Yahoo or even magic jack. After the first day of purchase it starting making a high pitch noise and so I turned decip down. I played with it for the next few days and well still no one can hear me on the other end.
Where is the Microphone located and is there something covering it when bought new that I need to remove?
Thanks guys!
P.S. I use a USB hub since I have several items that need to be connected to the PC.

A:Microphone Internal Not working!

To check your internal microphone is working use the windows sound recorder..... start, all programs, accessories, entertainment, sound recorder. Make a recording and check it records and plays back. If this works your internal mic is OK and I would start looking at a Yahoo driver or settings problem instead. From memory, the microphone is a small hole on the lid adjacent to the webcam.

Recently received my U400 and the microphone worked great. However, at some point during a Skype call, my partner could not hear me very well and was only able to hear static on my end.

I checked my sound setting and under the "Recording" tab, the Conexant Internal Microphone was very active and "loud" (as if I was constantly talking). I went under properties and checked "Listen to this device" and all I could hear was static. I tried talking but couldn't hear myself. Lowering microphone level didn't seem to change the amount of static I hear from my microphone. I turned off mic boosts and enhancements, but it didn't change static.

Internal microphone is set as default device. Stereo mix is similarly active and loud. Driver version is 8.54.19.0. (up to date). Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

Tried uninstalling driver and letting Windows install a new driver, but problem persisted. Pretty much can't use microphone to record, but it shows that it is active and is receiving a lot of sound somehow.

What should I do?

The first thing to do, since you let Windows install a sound driver, is to reinstall the Lenovo supplied sound driver. Non-Vendor supplied sound drivers usually either do not work or do not work correctly, including the windows installed generic HD audio codec driver.

My X1 Carbon was working fine, but one day the sound just stopped working.  I restored my image back to the Windows 8 stock image, and still not sound.  I tried re-installing Windows 7 from scratch, still no sound. I called into Lenovo, as the machine is only 4 months old.   The support rep said that they would do a "courtesy onsite visit exception" since this was my first warranty claim and that a lenovo tech would call me to arrange to have the machine looked at and the part swapped.  Apparently Lenovo only includes depot (ship your computer away) warranty support if you want their factory service. After waiting a week without hearing from anyone, I called back into the helpdesk with my ticket reference number.   The guy i was speaking to this time said that there were no notes on the ticket that i gave him and that the call was closed.  He also said that Lenovo no longer gives the "first time courtesy onsite exception" and that I would have to ship the machine back and be without a computer for 2 weeks! Good job lenovo.  You rock.  My first and last Lenovo.   Dell knows how to "DO" enterprise.  These guys do not.

In Belgium it took 5 days to pick up my machine, repair it and get it back. But 2 weeks is still reasonable for a repair at the depot. This will require a motherboard swap. It is possible you maybe accidentally bent the connector on the inside. I once had this exact same problem on a different laptop. It happens.

Prior to this problem the machine was running fine, there were no major updates that I recall, I certainly did not do any firmware updates for example, probably only Windows 10 automatic updates. So when this first happened there was a blue screen. The first few times it started booting windows and blue screened before reaching the login screen - now I can't even get the screen to come on, not even bios, just the following.. When I press the power button the keyboard backlighting and LCD Fn keys appear. The screen does not appear to start. Sometimes the machine stays like this for about a minute then switch off, sometimes it seems to reboot endlessly. When it is rebooting the power button flashes 3 times. I have tried the following with no success:Running on AC and no AC.Charging for a day.Letting the machine sit for at least a week off the charger.Holding the power button for 3, 10, 20, 30 seconds, etc..Pressing the power button multiple times.Pressing the reset button with a paperclip.Pressing the F1, F12, delete keys immediately on powerup, etc..  Any suggestions? I haven't opened it up yet, but I am comfortable doing that.
