I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have just bought some new memory, 2 x 1 gig, inserted it and ran the test. I get one error in the Stride38 test. Address expected is different to the one returned.

I know which chip it is, should I send it back, or is this 1 error acceptable for the system?

Thanks for your response

Hi bruce90matrix,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Similar to discussions here and here:

Product specifications:
16GB max7 ; PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3*, non-parity, dual-channel capable, two 204-pin SO-DIMM sockets

OEM recommended HDD capacity is 1TB as offered here on the FRU list of the hardware manual (page 26 here).
Resellers like crucial would offer 2 TB so it would be best to check returns options just in case.

I have a home built ASUS A7N8X2 Deluxe MoBo with an AMD Athlon XP 2800+ CPU. I upgraded Win XP Pro to VISTA Ultimate with no problems other than upgrading a few drivers. It went smoothly. At the time I had 1 GB in one of 3 available slots. I attempted to add 2 GB more to occupy all 3 slots. This produced a reboot after POST as VISTA started. I rotated the the modules through all slots and finally realized that when I went beyond 2 GB it produced a reboot. During post it tests 3 GB and the BIOS displays 3 GB. I have 512MB of RAM on the video card. Any suggestions ?? I am running the latest BIOS and if I remove one GB the machine boots and runs great... ???? Ron

I want to upgrade the memory of one of the pc's in our house. I get low memory alerts often and I can't delete much else to create room. I have never opened up a pc before, and I don't want to screw up and make things worse. The pc in question is a HP Pavilion a1150Y with a Intel Pentium 4 (3.00 GHz). OS is Windows XP SP2. It came with 512MB RAM and I would like to go up 2GB. I went to www.crucial.com, ran the system scan, and it says that this type of memory can go into that pc: "DDRII memory with support for DDR2 PC2-4200,DDR2 PC2-5300,DDR2 PC2-6400,DDR2 PC2-8500 speeds." I don't know what speed I should be installing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your message.Yes, this memory is compatible with the system. This system model has 4 memory slots & supports a maximum up to 32 GB @ 1600 MHz DDR3/DDR3L (1.5 V).However, if you use memory stick of two different speeds, the memory will be down- clocked to the lowest speed. We would recommend you to look for a memory which has a speed of 1600 MHz for better performance.

Hello together !

For your information:

Did a memory upgrade today at 2 Toshiba Satellite Pro 2100 (1,9 GH, 256 MB DDR-RAM originally), both up to 1 GB, all fine and not problems.

Just wanted to end rumours about "only 512 MB all together" or even less.

If searching for it, remember to think of the specifications:

DDR-266 (PC2100)
DDR-SDRAM, SO-DIMM
200 PIN
CL 2.5

concerning RAM frequency, building form etc.

Greetings

P.S.: Don`t think a discussion is necessary, thread could therefore be closed...

Your notebook can handle with 4GB of RAM and I recommend you to use 2 x 2GB module.
Compatible 2 GB module has part number PA3513U-1M2G or Kingston KTT667D2/2G.

Put the part umber in Google and you will find a place where you can order it in your country.

Hey, im trying to work this out (im new to upgrading and all that stuff, so bare with me)....

At the moment a have 512mb of PC2700 at 333MHZ (i think) (also im trying to get my comp up to scratch for gaming) so any way, im looking to upgrade to 1GB of the stuff. So first i looked at my motherboard specifications here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?product=371891&cc=br&lc=en&dlc=pt&docname=c00032472

Notice it ses "Memory Speed" Then the speed of which i have now. I geuss what i want to know is, is that the MAX it can take (it dont say that but im not sure)...now i know my processors....."thingy" (fsb?) is 333MHZ so im gussing i have to buy memory with the same frequency, but does the "PC2700" matter? (can i go higher)

And also, can i make my processor go to 400MHZ? cus it ses in the specifications page about my motherboard "333/400MHZ" Can i change it then? (cus you know, the faster the better for gaming....)

Any way hope that makes sence...

A:Memory Upgrade

The rule of thumb when dealing with memory is that you want to use memory that runs at the same speed (or as close to as possible) as your processor's frontside bus (FSB). For example - you have a processor with a 333mHz FSB - therefore, you want to use PC2700, or DDR 333 (it's the same thing).

In regards to your question about the processor, you should run the processor at the recommended processor frontside bus to cut down on heat issues. Running at more than the recommended speed is called "overclocking", and without proper cooling, you can cause heat damage and possibly break your computer.

DDR memory comes in many different flavors - PC 2100, PC 2700 and PC 3200 are the three main ones. The "PC####" directly corresponds to a speed - PC 2100 = DDR 266, PC2700 = DDR 333, and PC 3200 = DDR 400, or 266, 333 and 400 mHz bus speeds.

I hope this helps.

I have purchased 2 32mb EDO 60ns Simms to add to my 32 mb already in my pc. The plan was to end up with about 96mb. When I installed the ram the computer picks it up but after it picks up my cd-rom and burner I get an error message saying Memory Test faliure. Press F1 to continue or delete to enter setup. I do not know what to setup. If i push F1 then Windows ME goes crazy and everything has an error. It will not even start after ME starts. One error told me to reinstall windows. After I got that message I removed the ram and the computer worked fine, just like it did before. What can I do? Does the memory test faliure mean bad ram? I bought the ram off EBAY so their is no returns.

Acer Aspire E3800 build in 2 1gig PC4300 DDR2 memory sticks (Acer brand)
with option to upgrade to 4gig max

OS Vista Home Premium 32-bit

on MB itself see this
HT-200 MCP61PM-AM rev 1.0a

so I purchased Kingston 2x1gb PC5300 667 MHz DDR2

I placed both sticks in and computer started beeping consistently and did not boot up. I took 1 out and booted up but system is not recognizing the extra 1gig
I went in BIOS still same thing 2gig only
I switched the old memory for new one everything works so it is not memory issue but still showing only 2gig
I changed slots and position no chance

searched forums since 6pm and few people recommending memory remapping which I do not have as an option in my BIOS.
BIOS updated to lattes version still no additional options

so please if you have any idea how to do this help me

My friend wants me to come over and increase the memory on his 32 bit machine. He has one 2 GB stick DDR-2 5300 right now. I know they say you get the best performance with a matched pair of memory. If the stick I put in is 2 GB DDR-2 5300, but not an exact match as far as brand to what he has already installed, will there be lesser performance compared to if I put in two exact matched sticks of ram?

Thanks

A:Memory upgrade

Hello Vince,

DDR2 memory can run in dual channel mode for faster performance if the two sticks are the same size and type. It doesn't matter if they are the same brand or not, but it is best for them to be identical.

If they are not the same size and type, then the RAM will only run in slower single channel mode.

Hello

Somewhere along I'll uprade from 64 to 128 meg of ram so I keep watching advertised prices, right now the cheapest seems to be $49.99 for 64 sdram, almost always some generic brand. My question is does it matter what brand name of memory to buy? Usually, the lowest prices aren't the well advertised brand name. Is memory a matter of "you get what you pay for", or is it all basically the same and it's not worth paying up for a brand name. I'm thinking it's the latter, but any insights are appreciated.

We have a Gateway computer at the shop and I want to upgrade the memory as it only has 256MB. I rant two tests: Everest Home Edition and the scan from Crucial's website (www.crucial.com).

Motherboard: Intel Pendleton D845PT (3PCI, 1 AGP, 2 DIMM, Audio)
Motherboard Chipset: Intel Brookdale i845D
OS: WIndows XP Home

The Everest result is that I have 256 MB PC2100 DDR SDRAM
The Crucial result is that I have 256 MB DDR PC2700

Is there really a difference? How would I know which is the correct one?

How do I know what the maximum memory I can upgrade to is?
- In Everest it says: Maximum Memory Module Size 1024 MB
Memory Slots 2
Does that mean I can put up to 1GB in each slot for a total of 2GB?

How does the whole PC2100, PC2700, PC3200 thing work? If my computer is built to handle PC2100 and I install PC2700, will it work? Any disadvantages?

Or what if the computer is built to handle PC2700 and I install PC2100? Will it work, any disadvantages?

As always, thank you for any and all help.

Here's the Intel page on your motherboard:
http://support.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/d845pt/sb/CS-013218.htm

It says you can install:

# 2.5 V (only) 184-pin DDR SDRAM DIMMs with gold-plated contacts
# Unbuffered single-sided or double-sided DIMMs
# Maximum total system memory: 2 GB; minimum total system memory: 64 MB
# 200/266 MHz DDR SDRAM DIMMs only

Basically, you need DDR PC2100 memory.

Here's a good price on a 512 stick of good brand memory:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145024

Two of those and you'll be much happier with your computer.

I had my computer "rebuilt" a few years ago, and the person doing it didn't do what he was suppose to do. I just found out that I have 256 memory card on XP operating system. Not sure what type of PC it is anymore. It use to be a Compaq, but when I got it back I had a different tower and everything. I am using an AMD Athlon (tm) XP 2400+ processor. And the computer "name" is home-bud9kpc5zy. Under the computer icon on the Device Manager is ACPI Uniprocessor PC. All I want is to know what type of memory I need to get this thing running like it needs to be. I can't run more than 2 or 3 things at a time and it is already slow to begin with.
This is what my installed memory card had on the sticker on it:
Kingston Value RAM
9960223-101.A00 KVR266X64C25/256
P726341-3244558
Assy in Korea 2.5
CE
Warranty Void if Removed

And it has 8 black chips on the face of it and each one reads:
SAMSUNG 407
K4H560838F-TCB3
If anyone can help me, I would really appreciate it. I don't know anything when it comes to fixing computers.
Thanks,

On my Tinypc I am currently running a P111 500 Mhz processor on a Micro Star Inc. Intel 440/100FSB board with American Megatrends Inc. BIOS. I have 128mb RAM and a 10GB HDD.

I have purchased 256mb RAM and a Seagate barracuda 40GB HDD to boost the performance. I was wondering do I need to upgrade the BIOS info to handle the new Hard Drive and RAM or do I just wait and see if all works OK.

A:Memory Upgrade

you will probably be fine for the harddrive

the memory will probably work also...you most likely have a 256mb per slot limit.

what model motherboard do you have?

edit

oops...read that wrong...corrected my answer

Hello. I have a notebook with standard 4 gb and i'm looking for memory upgrade. I've found that this model has a n option to install additional memory of 4GB DDR3-1600 SODIMM Memory 16 chip LV.  But I've read that it needs some sort of specific/garanteed memory. I'm not sure I can find such memory at my location. Could you clarify this issue, please?

Hi folks, I have a i7 notebook but I think it´s getting a little bit slow, so I want to upgrade the ram memory. At CPU-z I discovered that I have two rams: 4GB / 2GB, PC3 10700 667MHZ. The question is: what king of memory is compatible? What do I have to be alert? And what do you recommend? Maybe buying just another 4GB to work together with my current 4GB memory? Thanks for your help =) This is my cpu-z:

I purchased an HP HDX 18 a year ago.  At the time I only included 4GB of RAM.  Now, I'd like to upgrade to the full 8GB by buying two 4GB memory sticks.  I have the product number and details for the memory I need to purchase, however, it seems that every place I look is out of this.  Am I going to be unable to upgrade?  If so, this ticks me off.  If not, does anybody have an idea of where I could look to purchase this RAM.  I went to the store that HP recommends and they were out. Product I'm looking for...510402-001DDR3 PC3-8500, 1600MHz4GB If anyone has any info I'd appreciate it. Thanks!
