Preferred Solution: upgrade memory

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have just bought some new memory, 2 x 1 gig, inserted it and ran the test. I get one error in the Stride38 test. Address expected is different to the one returned.

I know which chip it is, should I send it back, or is this 1 error acceptable for the system?

Thanks for your response

I have a home built ASUS A7N8X2 Deluxe MoBo with an AMD Athlon XP 2800+ CPU. I upgraded Win XP Pro to VISTA Ultimate with no problems other than upgrading a few drivers. It went smoothly. At the time I had 1 GB in one of 3 available slots. I attempted to add 2 GB more to occupy all 3 slots. This produced a reboot after POST as VISTA started. I rotated the the modules through all slots and finally realized that when I went beyond 2 GB it produced a reboot. During post it tests 3 GB and the BIOS displays 3 GB. I have 512MB of RAM on the video card. Any suggestions ?? I am running the latest BIOS and if I remove one GB the machine boots and runs great... ???? Ron

A:XPS8700 Memory upgrade with Kingston Memory

Thank you for your message.Yes, this memory is compatible with the system. This system model has 4 memory slots & supports a maximum up to 32 GB @ 1600 MHz DDR3/DDR3L (1.5 V).However, if you use memory stick of two different speeds, the memory will be down- clocked to the lowest speed. We would recommend you to look for a memory which has a speed of 1600 MHz for better performance.

I want to upgrade the memory of one of the pc's in our house. I get low memory alerts often and I can't delete much else to create room. I have never opened up a pc before, and I don't want to screw up and make things worse. The pc in question is a HP Pavilion a1150Y with a Intel Pentium 4 (3.00 GHz). OS is Windows XP SP2. It came with 512MB RAM and I would like to go up 2GB. I went to www.crucial.com, ran the system scan, and it says that this type of memory can go into that pc: "DDRII memory with support for DDR2 PC2-4200,DDR2 PC2-5300,DDR2 PC2-6400,DDR2 PC2-8500 speeds." I don't know what speed I should be installing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello together !

For your information:

Did a memory upgrade today at 2 Toshiba Satellite Pro 2100 (1,9 GH, 256 MB DDR-RAM originally), both up to 1 GB, all fine and not problems.

Just wanted to end rumours about "only 512 MB all together" or even less.

If searching for it, remember to think of the specifications:

DDR-266 (PC2100)
DDR-SDRAM, SO-DIMM
200 PIN
CL 2.5

concerning RAM frequency, building form etc.

Greetings

P.S.: Don`t think a discussion is necessary, thread could therefore be closed...

What memory do i buy? Toshiba do not seem to sell MB DDR2 RAM (533 MHz) after 4 years. What other memory would be suitable?

Many thanks,

A:Re: How to upgrade memory on Qosmio G30-201 and where to buy memory

Your notebook can handle with 4GB of RAM and I recommend you to use 2 x 2GB module.
Compatible 2 GB module has part number PA3513U-1M2G or Kingston KTT667D2/2G.

Put the part umber in Google and you will find a place where you can order it in your country.

Hello Experts,   I want to upgrade my memory so I can install Windows 7 on my 64-bit Vista Home addition. Can someone please tell me how I can check to make sure I can add more memory to my laptop. I telephoned HP and they gave me a part number and some dealers but I want to make sure before I ordered the part I can actually install it because there is an empty slot for it. Can anyone tell me where this lot would be and how I would install the memory since I'm a lady and not really so familiar with how to do all these things although I did buy a set of tiny tools to try to repair my tablet one time. That's when I learned I really should never open a tablet again but I think I could install the memory on my laptop if I have the correct instructions.  I had a virus a few weeks ago because Chrome is no longer supported and it was really hard to get rid of so it would be great if I could upgrade to Windows 7. I was told I can't upgrade to Windows 8 or 9 or 10 because the motherboard is not sufficient. I'm assuming that information is correct. So please if you can tell me how to check to make sure I have a slot for the new memory before I order it and how to install the new memory once I get it I would be very grateful. Thank you so much I am very grateful for all the assistance I get on this board. When I bought this computer it was the best I could afford and I still love it. Thanks again ~

Hi Guys,
I am looking at upgrading my ram. I am looking at a total of 4 gb and either 1333, 1600, 1800 or 2000mhz. Here is my current Pc specs...

Antec 900 case
Gigabyte s775 GA-EP45T-UD3LR core 2 motherboard
Intel s775 core 2 Quad core Q9400
Kingston 2gb ddr3 1333 1 stick
Antec 1000watt Psu
Geforce 8800 Video Card
Win xp Pro
2x sata hd

I can add another stick 2gb of 1333 ram for $29, but can I go faster? Would it be worth the extra cash for some more speed? Will I cause any bottle necks with faster Ram for my system?

Also the Kingston and Corsair Ram from the Pc Net store where I get my parts from has different model numbers from the Official list that Gigabyte has for my motherboard...is that a problem?

Also I'm guessing my motherboard only supports dual channel and not tripple channel memory?

Cheers

Uly

I am a NOOB so help please..

I have 2GB of ram (2x1GB @800) and that wasnt bad for my ex WinXP 32bit. Now i have Windows 7 64-bit and i want to upgrade memory.

Problems are:

1. Type of memory (motherboard manual says all memory moduls should be from same manufacter and with same chips used)
BUT PC is old, allmost 2 years, and i cant find same memory moduls anymore, can i put any DDR2 800mhz modul?

2. Size. Motherbord support 8GB, 4x2. But i got 2x1 installed, so i would add another 2x1 for total of 4GB. Is that ok?

Any advice would be great

A:Memory upgrade

I think as long as you buy THE STICKS @ 800 its wiil be ok with the same timings (best match brands) - post the name and specifics of the memory or do this eg mine is Corsair Twin2x 2048mb 240pin ddr2 800mhz PC6400 Twin pack (2x1024 sticks) w/heat spreader, 4-4-4-12 - copy the details in your browser search, and press enter, and you should find a list of online stores - i just typed it in, and there were only a couple, but this one is all you would need - just have a look and see if you can find something similar for your country -
Memory | Compare Online Retailer Prices in Australia | Smazoo
or search for online shops you must still be able to buy it online - just type anything browser like "buy memory online" and you well get results
If you cant find any, make sure you match up specs with a different brand .
Memory so cheap now you might want to upgrade to faster sticks at 2x2048 =4090 gb and use them instead if your a gamer.

Friends:I would like to upgrade the memory on my HP19-2404 All-In-One desktop computer. It came with 4GB (!) of installed memory and has one empty slot. I was told by the good folks at Fry's that I could upgrade to 16GB if I wanted to. I am going to upgrade to 12GB, using the original 4GB board and add a new board with 8GB to give a total of 12GB. Anyway, I need to know if there is anthing I need to do after I install the memory? Do I just fire it up and see if everyting works ok? Or is there something that needs to be done after making an upgrade like this. I have done this before on a previous laptop and it worked fine. I thought that I would ask about this before I actually perform the switch. It will save me $80 to do it myself as opposed to taking it in to Fry's and having them do it.  Thanks for any help y'all can provide to this newbie! Steve

A:memory upgrade

You should probably contact Lenovo's tech support with your question; however, as I read it, you are stuck with a maximum of a pair of 1GB SODIMMs -- 2GB total memory.

The mere fact that larger SODIMMs exist doesn't mean that your laptop's motherboard can address the memory on them.

Edited to add: Have you tried it without the 512MB module? Using only the 2GB module? That might work. Then, again, it might not. Only way to tell is to try it.

If you are staying with that cpu, then pc2700 will do fine. Get the second 512 stick and it will play today's games noticeably better. Older games, say Tribes and Tribes2 era, will show no improvement unless you are running other apps at the same time. Older games seldome used more than say 170megs. They fit nicely into 512.

Hi. I would like to upgrade my memory but I am a little confused. The online docs say  Includeded Hardware for memory: Maximum memory: 16 GB (4 x 4 GB) (64-bit OS)4 GB* (4 x 1 GB) (32-bit OS)For the options it says the highest I can go is 8 GB,  It gives you the configuration, Can I install up 16 GB? Thanks

A:Memory upgrade

Hi: Yes, according to the specs you can install 4 x 4 GB of memory. I don't know why HP stated that for 32 bit operating systems, to install 4 x 1 GB. Personally, I would have installed 1 x 4 GB so that if I ever decided to install a 64 bit OS, all I would have had to do was to install three more 4 GB memory modules. It would seem to me to be a total waste of money filling 4 slots with 1 GB memory modules only to remove them all at some later date. The other spec...HP only offered those memory configurations. They did not offer a 4 x 4 GB configuration. Again...it would have been nice if they offered the 8 GB configuration as 2 x 4 GB, instead of 4 x 2 GB.

Ok I want to get some more memory for my computer, but I want to get the highest speed that I can so that it won't become obsolete withing the next year or so. So here's the specs, FSB is 400MHz, CPU is 2.2GHz, and I'm assuming that it takes DDR ram. The sticker on my existing stick says SDRAM; yet it also says DDR 333 (256MB). SO I hope you can simplify this for me, basically I want to know if I can get the the DDR 400 (PC3200), or if I have to stick with the DDR 333 (PC2700). Also, could you give a brief explanation as to how you can find this out, or a website to go to... I've looked and have been somewhat unsuccessful! Thank you very much.

The memory is new from Crucial. The memory can be moved around in pairs into the new slots, but it only records 2gb.
In MSCONFIG BOOT ADVANCED OPTIONS it records 0 maximum memory or gives the choice of 258. If I uncheck the maximum memory it BSOD's. When in safe mode it sometimes gives the 4096 option in MSCONFIG, but not in standard mode.
The Bios is up-to-date for the cpu and mobo: AMD 64 3700+ (Bios P1.30).

1: Why is it only running at 1.8 instead of 2.4?
2: I am not finding alot of 168 pin RAM available, any ideas?
3: Should I buy a video board, things to look for when I do?
4: Someone told me there is a way to double the memory space (two into one adapters), any truth to that?
5: When I bought this from my buddy, I thought Pentium 4 was fairly current. Can I buy a different Motherboard and still use the P4 chip?

The other computer is a Compaq Presario SR 1123 WM, Running a Celeron 2.66 w/1G RAM it runs at 2.67GHz. Actually pretty snappy . My question about this one is another memory question.
I was looking at the available memory for this style, a 184 pin and there's alot more than SDRAM but there are PC#s like PC2100 PC2500 PC3200 etc... WHAT does this mean and WHERE can I find out WHAT I need for my computer? Will 3200 work in a 2100? Is the higher # a guaranteed max rating or what.
I think the two sticks of ram that are in there now are 333MHz. I don't know if that is what I need or can I use faster.
Alot of questions...I know, but there's a ton more in this ol' head LOL!

The 1st thing you should do is go here; http://www.gtopala.com/siw-download.html

download SIW 1.70 to your desktop. This application will give you lots of info on your machines. This is an executable that does not have to be installed, just download and launch from the desktop. If you don't want to keep and use it, just right click on the icon and delete it.

Personally, I have never heard of an Azza motherboard. See how SIW 1.70 indentifies it.

You can go with each machine to www.crucial.com and run their online scanner and it will tell you what RAM you use. They should have just about any memory you need.

Hi all,

I added 128M Ram to my Pentium III - 600MHZ(initially 128M)
to have 256M.

But, after rebooting it showed only 128M !!. I then removed the new 128M from the slot, it then showed 64M only???!!

Now I have added the 128 again but still shows 128M instead of 256??

My PC:

Fujitsu PIII-600MHZ
Windows 98
128M Ram (initially)

Could you please help??

THX

Although I do not see any significant change in my PC usage in the near future, I am now seriously considering maximizing from 4 to 8 GB which will cost me $150.00. (It's probable that I am doing this just because I can)

What do I expect from this? In other words, what difference does it make? Very specifically, will an extra 4 GB of RAM make any impact on high speed games?

Any downside?

Really you will see no change. 4Gigs is more than enough and the money would be better spent on other things.

If you want better performance, buy an SSD (Solid State Drive), you will see a huge increase in performance compared to adding memory.
Corsair Neutron Series GTX CSSD-N240GBGTXB-BK Solid State Drive - Newegg.com
Something like that and your old drive as a file storage drive will make your computer like new.

So Im currently Running, 8.00 GB mushkin 1333mhz, with a latency of 9.9.9.24 1.5 volt
Now the stuff I bought to build my system isn't available anymore, cant find it,
its so cheap, I wanna through in another 8gb, cause ive got a gift card, for my fave PC component store.
Question.
Can I just match specs, or do I need to ditch what I have, and buy new stuff?

A:Memory upgrade What do I need to know

Nope, that should be fine. As long as you get the exact same brand and model of RAM, it'll work. Just remember the more RAM you install, the more stress that is put on the memory controller which will limit any overclock you might do.

Hello

Somewhere along I'll uprade from 64 to 128 meg of ram so I keep watching advertised prices, right now the cheapest seems to be $49.99 for 64 sdram, almost always some generic brand. My question is does it matter what brand name of memory to buy? Usually, the lowest prices aren't the well advertised brand name. Is memory a matter of "you get what you pay for", or is it all basically the same and it's not worth paying up for a brand name. I'm thinking it's the latter, but any insights are appreciated.

I currently own a Dell Dimension 8100 with 256mb Rambus DRAM (RDRAM) for RIMM Socket (400M, 64x16, 8C). I am looking to upgrade my memory and was wondering if 800MHz memory would be compatible with my computer (instead of buying 400MHz).

Also, when browsing thorugh memory for sale online, what does it mean when it says "SPD 16 bit 2.5 volts 3.2GB/s 45ns" in the product description and is this important to my purchasing decision?

Thanks in advance for all your help!!
