Trouble flashing HIS x1800gto into having 16 pipes

Q: Trouble flashing HIS x1800gto into having 16 pipes

I have a HIS x1800gto that i know is unlockable with the right bios, ive acquired a bios that will do it its just that i am having incredible difficulty doing so.

My comp at first didnt have a floppy drive so i went with boot cds. The bootable cds wouldnt work for reasons unknown, i created like 5 of them, none would really get working so i jsut caved in and attatched a floppy drive.

created a bootdisk with atiflash, didnt work, reasons unknown, maybe because its a HIS ICEQ3 x1800gto and not a native (made by ati) card, so i used flashrom240, 237 and 16p. none worked. the same problems would come up-

device 0 not found
ati adapter not found
error 0FL01 when i tried to force flash.

obviously the card is there and is working fine. before this a while back and as recently as a few hours ago i attempted atiwinflash. ive heard horror stories about this program but it never really did or work for me till about 40 minutes ago. what i did was i just flashed it again with a fresh HIS x1800gto bios in an attempt to get flashrom to recognize my card. no dice.

now im at a loss since i know the card is there, its operating normally, its not overclocked, temps are prolly at 40c i would wager, so everything should be a go. anybody else have this card or been thru this?

thanks for any help my dudes.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Trouble flashing HIS x1800gto into having 16 pipes

Flashing those cards isn't guaranteed to work. If it was, they would be sold with all 16 pipelines already enabled. Maybe MOST of them can unlock, but maybe yours just can't. Obviously, if they could ALL be flashed to 16 pipelines, they would be sold as having 16 pipelines because the company could sell them as a more powerful model and get more money from them. Those ones are cards that were made to run on 16 pipelines, but were unable to according to some test (however inaccurate that test may have been). This means that some WILL run at 16 pipes but some won't. I guess you just got unlucky

hi all im just wondering what you guys would recommend a 7600gt XFX or a
X1800GTO or any above the GTO im not sure which one is better for the games i play i was thinking of radeon beause of HDR lighting i think its called i play games such as half life 2 counter strike source F.E.A.R. so any ideas or recommandations would be greatly apprecieated

A:nvidia 7600gt xfx vs X1800gto or any models above the x1800gto? which one is better?

If you can cough up the extra $10-$20 dollars (you're from America right) the general consensus seems to be from what I've read that the x1800 gto is the better card. Plus, another member, Rage_3k_moiz, often mentions that you can unlock more pixel pipelines on the x1800 gto, making it as good as a x1800 xl card, which is cool. I saw this one here GeCube x1800gto or if you want to go open box
sapphire x1800gto
Hope this helps.

hello all,

recently just bought a x1800gto 256mb pcie for 65 but im having second thoughts... My budget was 70 do you think this is the right card to go for in this budget? Bearing in mind im using ebay which can be a little cheaper.

I was also looking at the 7600GT and others such as the x800 models should i have gone with them?

Play all sorts of games daily including call of duty 2, cnc 3, bf2, css etc

A:x1800gto good buy?

The X1800GTO is a good card. Sometimes it beats the 7600GT, sometimes it doesn't.

The only bad thing about it is that is uses a power hungry core, and is longer than a 7600 card.

And it's better than any X800/850 card, because it has SM3.0 and HDR support.

Nice buy

Hi,

I had my X1800GTO overclocked with ATITool before, but since I have reformatted and re-installled the latest drivers and chipset drivers (and every extra driver I had used before) I tried to overclock again but ATITool just gives me a blank look:

Core freq: 0.0
Mem freq: 0.0

I then uninstalled the ati drivers and installed the latest omega drivers to see if that helped but I got the same blank look. Then I tried Ati Tray Tools overclocking, which didn't work and also the Overclocker overclocker (if that isn't too confusing) to no avail. Yet, all of my games work fine (CS:Source, DOD:Source).

But, with my old AGP 9600PRO 256mb I got atleast 25fps on medium settings on DOD:Source and obviously more with my X1800GTO, but now since the reformat, I am lucky to get 20fps on the lowest settings you can have.

What I'm asking is:

Is my X1800GTO broken?
Have I used bad drivers?
Is it something to do with the chipset drivers?
And many, many more questions.

Thanks,

Any reply is appreciated.

P.S. I have an:
Intel Skt 478 P4V800D-X Asus AGP/PCI-E hybrid motherboard
Intel 2.2Ghz CPU
550w 24 Pin PSU
512mb DDR 400Mhz Mem
Crappy 5400rpm IDE 40Gb HDD

A:ATITool can't recognize my X1800GTO

I suggest roll-back your drivers.... or simply install an older version. Since this all happened after you renewed your drivers, I'm willing to bet that is your problem.

I am trying to upgrade the PhoenixBIOS in a Gateway MP6954 laptop from version 77.05 to 77.12. I made a boot disk using the drdflash utility from bootdisk.com. I then added the Phoenix utility phlash16.exe to the disk, along with the 77.12 version of the BIOS (7712.wph). I am using an external USB floppy drive. The laptop booted from the disk, and at the prompt, I ran phlash16.exe. It quickly popped up with a message saying it couldn't find the BIOS.wph file, so I went back and renamed the 7712.wph file to BIOS.wph. I then booted again, and phlash16.exe proceeded through the read in. Upon completing the read in, however, I received an error message saying "Invalid Text Descriptor Size found in the interface." I googled this error message and found nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated; thanks!

Hi, I'm new here and I have a question about my monitor...

I have a Dell Dimension 2400 Series with Windows XP Home Edition and it's 7yrs old.

Google Chrome is my web browser of choice. I have my internet through my cable company.

Just recently, last few days, I'm noticing that things are flashing (white) on my monitor, no matter what site I'm on there's always flashing. Sometimes it'll be a box flashing here or there (just there and gone). Sometimes it's things I move the cursor over that flash. Also, when I use the scroll button on my mouse to scroll down, the top and bottom of my screen seems to flash white while scrolling. And, I dunno if this is a problem with Google or not, but...when I type the first letter of my search term the screen changes completely from my Google homepage to the page you usually get after you've entered your search term(s) and it's a witch trying to type out the rest of the search term/word. I have many tabs open at once and when I switch from one tab to another (one site to another) the whole screen flashes white once or twice before settling down. What the heck is it?

It can't be a bug or, you know, because I just had my computer fixed. Had the hard drive wiped and a new 1GB memory module installed because my system was low on virtual memory. Haven't downloaded anything but a few fonts. I don't download music or videos or anything like that.

I think it might be interference...(ok... Read more

I've searched around forums related to this, and some point to "spooler" being the issue, but I already ended the process,or atleast attempted, even via CMD Prompt, without the issue being solved

Hi,

My X1800GTO arrived yesterday and since I put it in, evertime I restart the PC I get one long beep and three short beeps, and because it is an American Megatrends BIOS this means that some recently installed memory is faulty and could be seated incorrectly.

So before I was going to take the side off and make sure it was in properly I went to get some food and when I came back I could start it up just fine with out any error codes and everything worked.

But, everytime I restart it now I get the error code and have to wait around 15 minutes until I can turn it back on. So, is this not a physical issue? Because I didn't have to touch any of the components.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Any reply is appreciated.

I have the Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 mobo with the dual BIOS. My manual says I need to download the new updated BIOS file from their website, save it to a 3.5 floppy and upload it in the BIOS. Well I downloaded version F6 from here:

http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherboard/BIOS_Model.aspx?ProductID=2314
The file in the red circle is the file I downloaded. The files in the green circle is the files I got when I extracted the file I got. Being that both the autoexe and FLASH895 are .exe files the file I need was obviously the top one. So I loaded it on the 3.5 floppy and restarted into the BIOS. When I got into the BIOS I choose the load from floppy option. Once it started reading the file it just quit after about 15%. It would only read about 15% of the file then it would just go back to the normal menu. Why? The BIOS is still not updated.

A:Haveing trouble flashing the Ga-965p-ds3

Usually it asks you where you want to extract the files. point it to the floppy drive. All extracted files should go on the floppy, not just one. it needs the autoexec file also

How effective are heat pipes, could they be used to cool a P4. If the copper pipes were brought outside the case and placed in a sutible cooling medium e.g an ice bath and the section of the pipe that was in the case was insulated to keep the case temp down, would this make a suitable silent cooling system.

A:Heat Pipes

Heat pipes are now used in heat sinks very effectively these days. I was a little sceptical to the efficacy of heat pipes till I realised that most laptops use this tech to keep the CPU cool, and comparison tests have shown that its much more efficient thatn without it.

How it works:
Basically, it just provides a heat conducting rod with low thermal resistance. Therefore, its efficacy is reduced the longer it is. Its like stretching a metal rod over a fire, a short one you'd burn your hand pretty fast, a long one you might not feel anything at all for a long time.

Also, I doubt you'd want to insulate the section of the pipe in the case, you'd more probably insulate the whole thing. At least you'd insulate the bit outside the case, so that the cold temps from your ice bath will reach the PC. But you want it to reach the CPU, so you'd insulate the whole bit. And you'd need a really thick heatpipe....

I won't suggest you do that.

A better solution? Water cooling, and run your radiator through that ice bath of yours

Recently I was getting artifacts in games and noticed that the card was running hot so I got an Artic Cooler on it which is fine (much cooler now).

However in games I get the checkboard pattern over the game. The framerate is perfectly fine. Setting games to use 16 bit color / z-buffer reduces the problem slightly. I installed ATITool to see if underclocking would help then I noticed in the window "Active Pipelines: 8". Its a 9800SE, it should have four pipelines and every time I have used ATITool before it has reported four.

I have never done the soft or hard mod to this card.

I've tried a complete format and reinstall with various old and new drivers and the problem I still there. As I said the framerate etc. is fine. From what I have read about the softmod, the checkboard effect is often because the card can't handle the mod and do eight pipelines, so (hopefully) if I can set it back to four it will work fine.

Any idea why it would set itself to eight even though I have never modded it?
Is there any way to set it back to four? Maybe a bios flash that restricts it to four?

Thanks for reading.

One of them is with one heatpipe, the other one is with two heatpipes. Two Heat PipesSingle Heat PipeCan someone tell me what is the difference between two and which one is more efficient? The single heatpipe fan is with 4 wires, while the other one is with 5 wires.  P.S.> And NO it is not the i7 vs i5 CPU, because I have i7 and I am with single Heat Pipe.

A:T460s - Different FANs and Heat Pipes

The only one I have seen has 2 pipes.  Was one of them made earlier than the other?  (On the model sticker, there is a manufacture date after the serial YY/MM.)  The parts list only shows one manufacturer.  As far as 4 wires vs. 5 wires, I would expect it wouldn't matter.  Normally, only 3 wires are used - power, ground and tach pulse.  I would expect it wouldn't matter.  I looked at eBay for T460s fans for sale thinking I could see a picture.  They had 2 for sale - one with 1 pipe and 4 wier; the other with 2 pipes and 5 wires.

Hi there Spice
From what you say did you format C drive or did you just reinstall windows.anyway it looks like your video drivers are corrupt.
Try this it should clear it up.Down load Driver Cleaner Pro.It is a free and safe tool.install it and read the operating instruction.Remove you video card drivers with add and remove.then reboot into safe mode, and perform the driver clean.NOTE before you click on clean make sure you have picked out the correct drivers in the drop down box. Then reboot into normal mode and reinstall your video drivers.

Hi Everyone!

I just joined and hopefully I can be of some help for others, but for starters I need to ask for help for myself! Before posting this, I did a search of the forums here but did not find anything identical to my issue.

I have a 10-month old Acer 5100 notebook that will no longer start Windows Vista (Home Premium if that matters).

A few nights ago I noticed the machine was at the "Windows did not shut down properly" screen (black background/white text). Unfortunately I was not around the machine when it got into this mode. The screen showed a list of 5 or less choices - I think the default highlighted choice was to let Windows search the hard disk for errors. I chose this but it didn't seem to start after watching it for several minutes. So being the impatient sort, I rebooted the PC and the same black screen with choices displayed. This time I selected 'Start Windows Normally' but when the system came back up it ends at the same screen again. (I believe the "Windows did not shut down properly" screen I was seeing was not the normal one I've always seen, but a different one with less choices, if that makes sense)

So I said forget this, I have a backup. I tried restoring a backup of the hard drive I made with Acronis True Image (I booted off the True Image CD). I chose to only restore just the C: partition. Both times I tried, it gets to over 50% complete then there's a message about the image being corrupt.

Hi valenz9,

My personal observation on above is that at times the system is stuck moving data if there are a large number of small sized files involved. It is usually advisable to copy and paste data first and then delete the unwanted data from older location for data security. However, as in your case you are already stuck moving the data and it is not responding anymore, I would suggest you to go ahead and End the copying process with the help of Task Manager (Right click on Taskbar and click Start Task Manager). Once you have killed the task, the data might be divided into two halves i.e. in old location and rest in new location. I would suggest you to utilize a third party data copying utility to copy the data in one place. Once such application is TeraCopy. Note that copying may take a long time if there are a lot of small files involved. Also, the program shared is neither recommended nor endorsed by Dell.

Hope this helps.

Hello all,
I hope someone can help but let me first start out by saying I'm very computer illiterate and get very nervous about trying to fix the PC. A couple of months ago, my monitor screen would get a greenish-overlay to it, then switch back to its regular appearance. I can still read the screen, it's just a green 'pall', for lack of a better word, on the screen. I thought it was the monitor and replaced the new monitor with an older one. After booting up the computer, the screen was normal until it reached a certain point in the startup and then it got the green overlay. I've unplugged the computer twice and when I've turned it back on, the screen starts normal and then gets the green overlay.
As if that weren't enough, now today my audio has stopped working. It worked fine last night so I don't know what happened. The speaker icon in the tray has disappeared and I tried unplugging, restarting, and then plugging the speakers back in and nothing happened. I removed the Audiotek drivers and restarted, and the computer detected new hardware - 'Multimedia Audio Controller'. I selected 'Find Drivers', and it tried looking online for a couple of minutes but came back and said it could not find any hardware for the device.
I know people will need more information to help, so let me know what information is required and I will attempt to find it (or ask how to find it).
Thanks!

I'm thinking of upgrading to an ASUS A7V600-X and an AMD Sempron processor. The problem is that I need to flash the BIOS in order for the motherboard to work with it. Can ASUS' DOS-free BIOS flashing utility work without a CPU?

A:Need flashing help

As long as you install the Sempron after you shut down the computer at the completion of the Flash utility, leave your existing CPU in the computer to run the Flash.
I have never done this ,but it makes sense. You should wait until you hear from someone that's done it.
Or do you mean you have no CPU in that Mb

When I connect the power supply to the laptop, it starts. It takes 5-10 minutes. And the power supply ceases to charge batteries. And the laptop is switched off and is no longer included. The charging indicator does not light. Only by briefly pressing the power button flashes 3 times. Then I take the laptop and set aside a couple of hours. Same story. Included with the charging running somewhere 5-10 minutes and off.

I don't know who's to blame. For about a month now, after I've been sitting here a while, the screen goes black. For the next two or three minutes the screen will flash on for a millisecond, and gradually the frequency will lengthen, and then up to 12 minutes later back to normal. (HP Pavillion bought Nov 07, Vista Home Premium, AgNeovo F=17.)
Last week I thought it might need a new screen driver, so I got one, and for two days no flashes.
My other big problem is everything seems to be on a hair-trigger.
I'll want to click on whatever, and a box of choices or warning pops up, and I have to hit Escape to get rid of it.
I think that's related to the computer taking to where it wants to go, or refuses to go anywhere.
Latest example: I enter the forum and click on Post New Thread. It opens the window I'm looking at. I try to type my title. but when I touched the first letter, I am flashed back to Pre-Post new thread.
I finally typed it to a note pad, copied and pasted to get those words in.
Another program takes be back instead of forward, etc..

Any ideas appreciated.

It may be a s simple as a mouse driver that is set to be too sensitive. the monitor might be set to blank.

lets go look. go into device manager (type that in search) go to monitor and see if the driver is installed and working properly. If it isnt there or if there is a yellow triangle on it means the driver needs to be re-installed. do the same with mouse, video, keyboard, etc.

If there are any "unknown devices" (with yellow triangles on them need drivers.
let us know the results

A:Still Flashing

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Download CWShredder and click on 'Fix' (it will automatically fix anything it finds for you). If it asks if you want to delete a certain random file, choose No and post that filename here.

Please download Ad-aware SE and install it if you don't have it already. Make sure it's the newest version and check for any updates before running it. Also go here to get the plug-in for fixing VX2 variants. To run this tool, go into Ad-aware->Add-ons and select VX2 Cleaner. Then click Run Tool and OK to start it. If it's clean, it will say Status System Clean. Otherwise, you will have to click on the Clean button to remove the VX2 infection. Also make sure to customize the settings in Ad-aware for better scan results... Read more

A:IE keeps flashing!

Try several things:

Go to search type turn on and off windows features.

Un check IE8, turn off computer and then boot and recheck the box. You have basically uninstalled (just turned off but it is almost the same) and installed again. Try that.

Does not work try this tool>internet options>advanced>reset. This will remove all add-ons.

Does not work try in safe mode and then report back.

I have never done this before. My computer is two years old. Is this something that should be done every so often or does it need to be done before I install
Win 7?

A:Flashing Bios

Flashing the BIOS should only be done if you are having a problem with your PC. Generally, by that, I'm talking about hardware recognition or something that is causing a problem booting. It is not something to be done on a schedule, and while flashing a BIOS is simple enough, it is also somewhat risky if anything goes wrong during the flash. Chances are that if you aren't having a problem with booting to XP, you won't have a problem with W7. Bottom line is don't fix it if it isn't broken.

Rather than flashing, I prefer to buy a new chip. It is super easy to install, if your MB's chip is socketed.

I currently installed windows 7 premium, switching from Windows xp. Everything seemed to be going on. went through install, did all the reboots. I am using 32 bit operating system as well. The bios screen loads upon start up, after that the screen switches to a bunch of colors with flashing symbols.. Symbols are smiley faces, pretty much random all over the place. I have tried reinstall many of times, and I am not able to run in safe mode at all. I was trying to cut my losses and switch back to xp but that is not able to happen either. I have the bios set to boot from cd. I am able to load the windows 7 disc, but when I put the xp disc in, it is not able to load. I verified xp disc does work, by putting it in another computer, and the disc loads just fine. Its an E Machines 3200+ T6212. Using a ATI Radeon Graphics card, with a AMD 64 Processor. Any help would be great.pic

PS: the picture attached is from another user I was able to find off the net. I was not able to get any help from that post, but I am seeing exactly as the picture indicates

A:Flashing artifacts

Please complete your system specifications in the user control panel area.

Without that information nobody will really be able to assist you.

Presumably you used the W7 Upgrade Advisor and didn't upgrade from within XP?

hello all, im getting a white flashing cursor upon boot up on my computer, after several reboots it will boot but very slowly. the xp screen starts out real light then fades in to normal tone and then it will boot. i read here that it might be a bad cable? hard drive? or boot file corruption. what is my best bet to start with? if u need more info about the computer please let me know what i need and how to get it here and i will do so. thank you so much for any help mark

A:Flashing cursor

Mark, some information about the computer would help. Desktop? Laptop? Manufacturer and model?

Problems: You are describing problems that may or may be related:
1. A blinking cursor on boot: did you make any changes or update in the video card? Did you update the video card before this started?
2. Lack of color on monitor: laptop or desk? LCD or older CRT?
3. Slow load on boot: new problem with cursor blinking or slow load anytime?
4. Do you start with a black screen, possibly with white writing, blinking cursor?.
5. Did you may any system adjustment before this began?
6. Do you hear any 'beeps' when you boot?

Troubleshooting:
Check the Device manager:
Start> Run> type in devmgmt.msc> OK> do you see error icon by any sections? That is a yellow triangle with black ! point. If so, click on the + sign in that section to expand the Display Adapter and Monitor sections> and note which device has the error.

Boot into Safe Mode
Restart your computer and start pressing the F8 key on your keyboard.
Select the Safe Mode option when the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, and then press ENTER.

If a symptom does not reappear when you start in safe mode, you can eliminate the default settings and minimum device drivers as possible causes. If a newly added device or a changed driver is causing problems, you can use safe mode to remove the device or reverse the change.

Using Safe Mode to determine a basic source of a problem:
Safe Mode: Loads the... Read more
