Windows Live Messenger Beta Error

Q: Windows Live Messenger Beta Error

About 3 hours ago I installed the new Beta,
It didn't quite work, it was constantly kicking me off,
So I decided, eh, I'll go back to the old Messenger before it.

Well, Unfortunately, Me, and my Tard fashion, Decided to go into program files and just remove the folder, and emptying my recycle bin afterwards.

Of course, Now I can't install the older Messenger, or the new one.
During the install of the old one, I get this:

Well, Damn.
Then I discovered I didn't have Service pack 3 installed, thought that may have been the problem for Beta, and I installed SP3 and reinstalled Beta,
And now I get this...

I've googled up what I could, and I've found nothing to actually help me,
So I come to you,

What can I do?

Also, System restore Is disabled :/

Preferred Solution: Windows Live Messenger Beta Error

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi guys,

Firstly apologies if this is the wrong place to post, I chose it for want of a better location.

My problem is in two parts. I have recently installed the Windows Live Messenger Beta (Version 2009 Build 14.0.5027.908) along with the rest of the beta version of Windows Live.

My problem with this program may seem petty, but if I can solve it I have no need to worry about the second issue.

I'm sure you are all familiar with messengers 'custom emotes' and have used them often, however I now find that these do not display on this new version of messenger. You may well say that its because its a beta version, but I have spoken to friends also running the beta and they can see the custom emotes when I send them messages, and I still cannot see theirs when they send them.

With this in mind I then un-installed messenger beta, and attempted to re-install the most recent version of messenger prior to the beta release, (simply called Windows Live Messenger).

This is where my second problem arises. When I attempted to install it, bearing in mind I had had this installed before updating to the beta version, I now get an error message right after accepting the terms and conditions.

The error is as follows:

"There was a problem with this installation. Windows Live Suite was not installed.
System error details
Code: 0x8000ffff
Description: Catastrophic failure"

I have attempted to check Microsofts online help, but most of the key pages seem to ... Read more

Windows Live Messenger Beta has two taskbar "boxes" open when buddy list is open and 1 open at all times to quickly change your "avalability" and there is no tray icon so you can't quickly close it without signing out and closing or just ending the process with task manager.

I got a email from MSN telling me that the Beta version of the new Live Messenger was now available. As I use this program I thought it may be an idea to install it and check out the new features etc. My question is: When I uninstall the WLM version at present on my PC will I lose all my email contacts, folders, retained correspondence etc or will these remain to be shown on the new version Beta installation?

A:Windows Live Messenger Beta Question.

Hi, will I lose all my email contacts, folders, retained correspondenceAll your email contacts and such will be saved to your email address so these will be picked up whichever version of you use and log into.By "Retained Correspondence" - do you mean chat logs or received files? These will be saved onto your computers harddrive so will still be accessible. Not sure if i went along the right lines here, if not let me know and i'll answer what i can

So after this I tried uninstalling windows live messenger and I proceeded to go on the website and reinstall it. I've tried about thirty million times since then and it just says, an unknown error has occured. I have tried searching the error code billions of times online with no success
The error is as follows:

Windows live support managed to solve the problem for me..i will paste the email below.

Here are the steps to walk you through the process. They're pretty straightforward so I'm sure that you won't have problems performing them.

1.Remove all older versions of Windows Live Services (if you have previously installed or attempted to install any Windows Live Services). Clear the entries your computer by following the steps below.
a. Click Start, click Run, type appwiz.cpl and then click OK.

b. In the list of currently installed programs, select any Windows Live (you may see more than one program with the Windows Live name) and then click Change / Remove.

c. If you are prompted to confirm, click Yes.

d. Do this until all Windows Live programs (except Windows Live OneCare) are uninstalled.

2.Restart your computer. This is important.

3.Once you have all the above dependencies installed, then download and install the appropriate software from the links below based on your language requirements. To perform this installation, follow these steps:
a. Visit this link: http://g.live.com/1rewlive3/en/wlsetup-all.exe

b. Save the file to your desktop

c. Then Select Run

Note: If you are prompted for confirmation to run the program, select Run

d. Confirm your acceptance of the Terms ... Read more

Greetings. I would like to know if anyone here has encountered a solution to one of the most known login issues regarding the beta version of Windows Live Messenger. The issue consists of an intervention by the Windows Live Communications platform addon every time you log on to msg. As soon as the window containing the message mentioning the issue appears , it gives you no choice but to close the program, only to encounter the issue again. I, along with the rest of the users experiencing this issue, have scrutinously searched a diverse number of forums for solutions regarding this issue, and have yet encountered an effective response to it. Any perspectives will be appreciated.

I have the same problem and no matter how much restarting I do of Windows 7 it still happens and even more curiously is, when Windows Live Messenger beta disconnects and reconnects, it affects my internet as well. I have Vista running Live Messenger beta, and it was working fine since I installed it, up until today. Now I am getting an error message saying that I have an invalid IP address.

OK -

Netgear DG814
Messenger BETA/LIVE - whatever it's called today.

I can use Messenger for various periods of time and then all of a sudden my connection goes.

First I notice that internet doesnt work - then Messenger signs out.

My internet connection doesnt come back on until I reboot my router - or if im quick enough to connect to it, I can go into Gateway Status and hit Refresh. Then my connection comes back up again.

I have uninstalled Messenger BETA and put 7.5 back on... no problems. Then install BETA again and then after however long it cuts. The times vary.

Ive uninstalled and reinstalled BETA and 7.5 about 10 times - and every time BETA cuts my connection. So I'm pretty sure it's BETA that's causing it!

Anyone had/having this problem.

I've done all the obvious things like upgraded the firmware on my router, disabled power save on my NIC, upgraded drivers on my NIC.

But, like I say - each time BETA is installed - it cuts. So all fingers point that way.

Any help greatly appreciated.

I had Windows Live Messenger and I had installed the new beta version that came out 9.0 and I tested it out but I wasn't pleased with some of the functions it had so I tried unistalling it but for some reason it does not show in my Add//Remove Program so I went through my registry and hit Ctrl+F and I deleted everything that had Windows Live name because I wanted to install an older version of Windows Live (8.5) and it would not let me until I unistalled the newest. Anyways after I finished, it would let me now install the "Windows Live Installer" (the first process to install the messenger) and when I installed it I clicked on the link where it says "Start Messenger" which it would not do anything so I installed a really older version of messenger (5.1) and had a friend send me the 8.5 version, messenger.exe. So when I clicked it, it gave me an error that I did not have the msncore.dll so I downloaded the dll and sent it to the system folder and now when I click on the exe it throws me this error that I can't seem to find a solution. If anyone could help me out with it:

Hello there,

I had a virus on my comp earlier which AVAST took care of, and I have downloaded some new anti-malware packages today, but theyre not blocking it I dont think as even when I turn off any live protection I still get the error message. Windows live does not list this error in their support area and google searches present no solutions.

Ive checked I def dont have a virus or malware (ran so many different scans today!), plus when you google it lots of people seem to be getting it and asking for a solution but there doesnt seem to be a conclusive answer

Any ideas why and what I can do to be aboe to login??

Please help! My windows live messenger is currently having severe problems. Whenever I try to start it, an error icon pops out and says "Windows live messenger has encountered a problem and needs to close". I have tried system restore, uninstall and reinstall, windows live sync and numerous other fixes but they have all failed miserably and my windows live messenger will not work. I suspect this is an old problem, but please help me quickly, thanks.

Error: 81000306

1. Make sure that you are connected to the Internet. Start Microsoft Internet Explorer, and then try to visit the following Web sites:
Messenger service status
Microsoft web site
If you cannot visit these sites, contact your Internet service provider (ISP) for information about how to set up your Internet connection so that you can visit both secure (https) and non-secure (http) sites.

2. If you are able to visit the Messenger service status page and notice that there is a service issue, please visit the site later to determine when the service is available so that you can sign into Messenger. If the site indicates that the all systems are stable and running, go to the next step.

3. Clear the proxy settings in MSN Messenger.
3.a. Start Messenger.
3.b. On the Tools menu, click Options.
3.c. Click Connection in the left navigation pane.
3.d. Click Advanced Settings in the Connection Settings section.
3.e. Delete the content of the SOCKS field.
3.f. Click OK two times to save the settings.
3.g. After you clear the proxy settings, verify if you are able to sign into Messenger. If you are still not able to sign into Messenger then please go to the next step.

4. If you are using Windows Vista, disable the Auto Tuning Networking feature:
4.a. Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, and then right-click Command Prompt and choose Run as administrator.

First time posting here, so apologies if i don't make the most amount of sense. Since Sunday, i've been having various problems with my PC. I was downloading a newer version of Yahoo Messenger, it failed, my PC rebooted, and since then, i've not been able to get into my Windows Live Messenger. When i enter my login details, i get an error message, advising it cannot open Messenger, and will have to close down. When i click on view error report details, i see the info below :

AppName: msnmsgr.exe AppVer: 14.0.8064.206 AppStamp:498cf586
ModName: msvcrt.dll ModVer: 7.0.2600.5512 ModStamp:4802a188
fDebug: 0 Offset: 00037740

Exception Information
Code: 0xc0000005 Flags: 0x00000000
Record: 0x0000000000000000 Address: 0x0000000077c47740

I uninstalled Yahoo messenger from my PC, and this error persisted. I was also having problems opening Internet Explorer, but once i disabled the Yahoo add ons, i was able to access it.

As part of my initial investigations, i ran a scan for Malware viruses. It found 19 infected files, but when i told it to remove them, i got a similar error to the one i get when trying to login to Messenger, with the same Exception Information as above. I rebooted in safe mode, and was able to remove the errors. But when i try to run the tool in normal mode, it finds one infected file, but gives the error when i try to remove it. It also gives the same error when i try to update the database in the tool.

Other than the attempt to download ... Read more

A few months back, I downloaded WLM9 and could sign in for a few minutes, but then I'd receive a "platform error" message. I tried solving the problem using the "official website" but couldn't, and so went back to using 8.5.

I downloaded it again a while later, thinking the problem may have been due to it being in the beta stages. I couldn't sign in. Then this weekend I had to upgrade, and the error is still there. It says that the "service is temporarily unavailable" but doesn't even attempt to sign in. The error code is 800702e4.

I've searched online and found no useful information, other than it's happened to other people who tried to solve the "platform error" issue! The time/date is correct, I've clicked "allow" on my firewall (I use Norton 360 - apparently this may have been causing problems in the first place), I've even tried disabling the anti-virus/firewall... the only thing that seemed to help a bit was something to do with "msconfig" I think - I disabled something like "____ UAC" and it attempted to sign in (I didn't bother letting it finish - assumed it was matterless if it worked in this way since I needed to enable the "UAC" thing again). When I did enable it again, the error was back.

I also have problems getting onto my inbox. I have to uncheck the "Check for server certificate revocation" button on Internet Explore... Read more

It comes up with the error twice then another window comes up saying bootstrap.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows you will need to restart the program. An error log has been created. If anyone could tell me how to install windows live on my windows 2000 or fix this error that would be great.
