Cannot copy XXXX. The request could not be performed because of an I/O error.

Q: Cannot copy XXXX. The request could not be performed because of an I/O error.

Well, I bought a new DVD drive yesterday and when I insert a disk it reads and I can browse through the discs contents but whenever I try to copy something it freezes for a few seconds and I can see the little light flashing violently on the device and when I get past that and try to put it on my desktop I get "Cannot copy XXXX. The request could not be performed because of an I/O error." I have tried using both cds and dvds, the oddest thing of this all is the drive allowed me to burn a CD, and this CD is working perfectly. My drive is called TSSTCorp CDDVDW SH-S222A in the device manager and the box for it says it is a RetailPlus+ DVD+/-RW.

Preferred Solution: Cannot copy XXXX. The request could not be performed because of an I/O error.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am trying to backup server files to another computer on the network. However, I have run into a folder that has a a few thousand small images and every 20 or so image copy pops the error "Cannot Copy ****: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error." Instead of doing a mass transfer of these image files I now have to try to copy the single file that pops up this error over and over again by drag n drop until the error goes away. I don't know what is causing it and I don't know why after about 5-10 min of repeated copying attempts it suddenly has no problem with the exact same file and another file suddenly can't be copied across the network in that folder.

Any ideas what is going on here?

I have already tried running repairs on the hard disks in question.

Look in the event viewer under computer management in the control panel. Click on sytem to see if you have any hard disk errors. You may also ahev a memory problem.

I've been currently using a 600gb SATA HDD for my OS etc and everything else. I decided to put in my other SATA 320gb HDD as I am going to need more space (Recording with my hd capture card takes up alot of space!). I put it into the HDD bay, plugged both the SATA cable and power cable into it. I turned on my PC and it read it and said it was set to go. I went into Computer Management to set it up and a window popped up saying I needed to initialize Disk 1 being the drive, so I clicked ok. It freezes for a second and then a small box pops up saying "The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error." Please help, I am very smart with computers for the main concept however HDDs are actually one of the only things I'm not very experienced with. Thanks guys! I appreciate any support. I am using Windows 7 64 bit OS in case that matters.

A:NEW HDD - The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.

OK, first of all, we have no idea what you are working on. Post your exact system specs ie make and model of mb, cpu, amount of ram, etc. If this is a big box system, then post the make and model.

Have you rechecked/reseated both pw and data connections for the drive?

Have you tried a different sata cable and or a different sata port on the mb?

I am looking for help. I have a Toshiba Satellite A105-s4164 Window XP SP 2 Media Center Edition purchased in August. Just last night I noticed that my (D) Drive which is my DVD-RAM Drive as it reads now is not working correctly. I can play DVD's but it does not recognize CD-R/RW CD's nor actual Audio CD (retail). I seem to think that at an earlier time the Drive use to read CD-R/RW drive. ??? Could it just be the setting? The DVD-RAM is a Matshita DVD-RAM UJ-841S.

I have gone through the forum and tried out all the suggestions I could find. Still the problem exist.

When attempting to copy files to a CD I recieve this message: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.

After going through all of the suggestions I could find I decided to do a full recovery (factory) and the problem is still there.

I have gone through Record Now! and Window Media Player using an Audio CD (retail) and I recieve the following message disk empty or drive busy. When I open the file nothing is there.

Please help. This is driving me bonkers.

Thanks in advance.

A:D:// The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.

If you've done a Factory Restore and the problem persists then the drive has physically failed. I think its time to use that warranty that came with the laptop.

Hi

I recently did a clean install of W7 Professional. I installed W7 first on the SSD. Once the operating system was running I then proceeded to add the internal HDD (500G Seagate). Unfortunately the system just does not seem to recognise the HDD.

Device Manager:
In Device Manager->Disk Drives:
Drive 1: W7 sits on my 64G SSD and has the location 1 (1).
Drive 2: The 2nd drive is an internal 500G HD that has the location 0 (0). The drop down box of Device Usage shows: "Use this device (enable)"

Disk Management
I went to the Disk Management but:
a) only the Disk 1 is showing
b) it is does not appear to be seeing the 2nd disk

Computer Management
I went into Computer Management and tried to enable the Disk. Unfortunately it has come up with "The request could ot be performed because of an I/O device error"

The HD is an intertnal HD with Sata connectors.

1) I changed the Sata ports but still no difference
2) Windows says the drivers have loaded correctly and the device can be used
3) I ran the Trouble Shooter but no issues were found.
4)The same issues as above are occurring. Please see images below:

A:The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error

Hi tzakuzi,

Welcome to Seven Forums.

A fundamental question: What made you to decide that you have a problem with corrupt master boot record? What was the effect of such " corrupt master boot record" that made you sit up and take any corrective measure?

Is your external HDD not accessible?

Was it accessible before?

Have you tried it on other USB ports?

Have you changed the cable and tried?

Have you tried that HDD on any other PC and with what result?

If your ext HDD shows up Windows Disk Management, please post a screenshot.

I know, too many questions . But let us get a complete picture.

( If your PC has Windows 8 64bit, why did you not raise the query in Windows 8 Forum?)
A missed question added now. Do other external drives work on the machine?

Hi There,
Am deleting a folder on my hard drive but the error "Request Cannot be performed because of an i/o device error".

This is how I can up with this error.

This file[folder] was copied from another machine to me machine. After sometime me machine started slowing down. Then it became so frequent.
I did a scan using AVG but as soon as the scan reached this folder, it hang. I did a check disk with /f and /r attributes and it hang at this files/folder.

I removed the hard disk, slaved it on another [perfectly working] machine and seem to hand as well.

Please am sure someone out there has a get around. Please if you do, kindly appreciate your assist.

The message from my effort to read and write to my floppy drive also said "A:/ not accessible." I assumed (correctly?) the drive was the input/output device.

I checked power and data cables: both tightly seated. I know the drive is getting power; the green light on front lights, though I don't suppose that is proof it's getting all the power it should or where it should.

I checked my BIOS in case that had somehow inactivated it. But my BIOS only listed the A drive-no options offered.

I went to Device Manager, deleted driver, rebooted. Problem continued.

I tried a different floppy drive, with the same results. And I tried read/write operations with 2 different floppies, with both drives.

Exactly the same results as with the new physical drive..

What can I do now? (O/S is XPSP2). Replace the motherboard?

I have a kingston 8GB microSD, i thought it was dead, but that was just my adapter, so now i have a new one. I am using a MicroSD -> SD -> SD USB reader.

When i stick it in, the device appears empty, i have to pull the MicroSD and SD adapter and reinsert them back into the USB reader for it to be recognized.
After my computer recognizes it, If i go to my computer in windows explore, it lags for a while if i right click or double click on the drive. After that, i can't access it at all, a little while later (regardless of weather the SD lock is on or off) i get:

The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.
I have tried various formating utilities, some tend to crash, and i think the microSD has actually caused a couple BSOD's.

Im wondering if anybody has a solution, or some good format utilities to try. I am not to determined because it is an Asian (no offence!) brand, and they tend to not last long. I am also planning on replacing it with a 4gb version for better compatibility.

I have searched here and googled this error, and while I have found similar, nothing that same as this.

I have been unable to update my Itunes, so after some research I realized it was the failure to update quicktime durring the Itunes update that was really happening. I have tried multiple things to fix this, all of which have been unsuccessful. Nothing would tell me why, just that quicktime failed to update.

My next step was to uninstall quicktime, this also failed with no reason why. So I attempted to Manually delete all quicktime files, and then run tuneup utilities to remove all registry entries. However when doing this I found I could delete all files, except the folder c:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTSystem\QuickTimeStreaming.Resources\de.lproj . When I try I get the below error message
Code:
Cannot delete de.lproj: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error
When I try to go into the directory de.lproj I receive the this error message.

A:The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error

hiya, maybe this could be of use
It sounds as though the file referred to in the error message is corrupt and Windows cannot read it.

Try running a disk check. If it finds and fixes errors, try reininstalling. If not it it doesn't work, go on to the next step.

Try renaming c:\programfiles\commonfiles\apple\mobile device support\syncservices\schemas\calendars.syncschema\contents\windows\calendars.exe as ...calendars.old.

If Windows will not allow that, then rename the containing folder.

This should allow the install to proceed as it will not see the corrupt file.

Whatever you do, do not do anything that will cause a write action upon that pen drive until after the folders and files have been successfully copied off of that pen drive and onto an SSD or platter-driven hard-drive.

Are you running SP1? If not, you should check to see if there is a BIOS update which corrects this, or some setting you can change through the CMOS Setup utility to modify the PromoteLimit Value your system uses as the CPU moves into a deeper idle state. You might have to disable that setting completely before you can resolve this, but we won't know that until you research it.

Or, you might simply choose to live with it...

EDIT: Use Malware Byte, follow the instructions below, then RUN A
FULL SCAN ON YOUR COMPUTER. Doing so will take about an hour or
more, but it will REMOVE ALL MALICIOUS FILES, GETTING RID OF THE
ANNOYING BUBBLE

Hi everyone. I have found a way to get rid of the files that cause some
Trojans such as Trojan-Keylogger.win32.fung, trojan-bankfraud, and many
more. Here are instructions that I have used and that I have tested myself
1)Download, install and update MalwareByte' Anti-Malware
2)Open to the file of the location of where the malicious files are
i.e.- Trojan-Keylogger.win32.fung, ----> XXX\application data\google
3)Drag the malicious files onto your desktop
4)Run MalwareByte and go to the tab on the top with the name {More Tools}
5)Under FileAssasin, click the button there
6)Browse to your desktop and click on the malicious files.*
*Note: If a window pops up, saying that they cannot be removed until
your computer has been restarted, click OK and your computer will
reboot automatically
7)Once reboot-ed, your desktop will no longer have the malicious files there
and the original location of these files should no longer have the files
as well.

These instructions only remove the files. I have not discovered a way to remove
the fake alert bubble. If you find out the solution to the alert bubble, please post
it below. In the meantime, I will also try to find a solution myself.
Hope this helps

Hi, Welcome to TSG!!

Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
Click on Install.
It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Ok when i turn my computer i get this error message saying that sireman.dll isnt a valid windows image. So i then click ok then Windows messenger pops up and says MsnMsg is have problems please try again later and it says send error dont send. Also when i try to install Windows Media Player 11 because my recent one was having problems readin my avi file. ( dont know why dont know if it has anything to do woth this.) So its extracting the files and after it says obbcbcp.dll is not a valid image. I have Norton Antivirus and a Windows XP. Olease help i would very much apreachate it. Sorry i have a little trouble spelling on the computer.

A:/c:xxxx\xxxxx\xxxxxx\xxxx.Dll is not a valid windows image

Firstly i do not recommend using Norton it is a bit or a resource hog and does not have a very good detection rate, if you wish to change i would recommend ZoneAlarm (Firewall) and AVG Free (antivirus)

ZoneAlarm free (Firewall)
http://www.zonealarm.com/store/content/catalog/products/sku_list_za.jsp?dc=56pus&ctry=GB&lang=en

AVG Free
http://free.grisoft.com/
Ok not sure if this will help will all your problems but you may need to first clear all your temp files and cookies, use ATF Cleaner

ATF Cleaner
http://www.majorgeeks.com/ATF_Cleaner_d4949.html

Select all the boxes and press clean..

restart the comp and try installing windows media player again.

Some advanced stuff now

goto START >> RUN >> Type :- Msconfig ~ press enter

under the startup tab look for anything like Sireman.exe if you find it, disable it, also disable windows messenger by removing the Tick or Check in the box, press apply/Ok and restart.

you could possibly have some registry issues, and if you want to clean the registry i would recommend using RegScrubXp (some people do not recommend the use of such software but i do, its a personal prefernce)

http://www.sofotex.com/RegScrubXP-download_L7528.html

1) press "let RegScrub find problem"
2) Select all problems
3) Fix all problems

let us know if any of the above worked otherwise myself and others will try helping.

I am having some major issues with attempting to do a backup of all my system drives - all attempts have failed.
What I have done so far;
Tried to do a Windows backup from my laptop to a Passport external hard drive - first failure.
Failed again when I tried another Windows backup, this time to an Imation external hard drive - second failure.

Very weird boot error: (right after Dell splassh screen)
disk read error code
press ctrl+alt+del to reRECOVERY xxxx

In place of the x's are weird gibberish letters.

When I try to run chckdsk /f/r via windows 7 recovery, it says the volume is locked.

It may be hardware related, but I suspect a virus that affected the MBR and somehow locked the drive--Is this possible?
I also suspect virus because about a month ago I had the "fake-AntiVirus" Virus, and those are quite nasty I heard, but was able to remove it with Stinger.

The reasoning behind me thinking it is a virus is that the error code is not very common( "reRECOVERY xxxx"), and does not look anything like any bios manufacturer would display.

If the MBR is affected and drive is locked I suspect any other drive testing tool will fail.

Are there any options, except reinstall win 7, to fix MBR and unlock the drive.

I already tried following in System Recovery Options from de Win 7 disk:
- chckdsk /f/r resulting output: it says drive is locked

-bootrec /fixboot - says completed succesfully

-bootrec /fixboot - says completed succesfully

- Startup repair does not find any problems

none of above solve issues.

Specs:
Win 7 Ultimate 32
Dell Inspiron 4010
Core i3

Thank you in advance, this is my first post, so if I have missed anything to report, please say.

A:Very weird boot error: "reRECOVERY xxxx" x = gibberish

I too have received this strange error message - re-Recovery?? Is that even a word? If so, it doesn't seem like a common error message based on extensive Google searching. I was also thinking that it is somehow virus related but scans have not shown anything. I am receiving this message on a Dell Inspiron One with Windows 7 Home Premium. The owner downloaded a spam letter from her email last week and has since then seen the exact message that you have. Once she presses Ctrl+Alt+Del, her computer boots up fine. She can restart her computer several times during the workday and not see this message, but each morning it is there to greet her. I have done scans with various spyware/malware removal programs, and have found a few entries to remove, but the problem still persists.

Have you come to a conclusion?

Can anyone please help with copying a playlist of music for my friend's wedding? I'm new to this, and worked on a very special list and order of many songs- couldn't do it in iTunes so did it in Windows Media Player. I copied it to an external drive, but when tested if everything is OK on a different computer, I realized almost none of the songs are recognized from the playlist.

How can I copy all the songs to this external drive so the playlist doesn't need to use my computer? Hope the question is clear and that someone has a spare minute to help with this....

Thanks in advance!!!

Can anyone help. I updated the May Critical updates on 15th May 2015 and then Outlook Stops, and in the Event Viewer for SChannel I get the following

A fatal alert was generated and sent to the remote endpoint. This may result in termination of the connection. The TLS protocol defined fatal error code is 40. The Windows SChannel error state is 808.

I've no idea what 808 is, but the 40 is a handshake error.
Now if I go back to my restorepoint prior to the updates it all works again, until the system does the updates again (all 15 of them). It appears to be something in the updates, but cannot find other people complaining about this. It's also a bit disappointing
that the error state of 808 seems to be undocumented.
Can anyone help?
I have since diagnosed which Patch it is with the problem. It's KB3061518 (MS15-55). Doesn't help much since bing/google aren't telling me about reports of problems with it (apart from a CAD package) running Outlook email workload.

A:SChannel Errors with Outlook 2013 when May 2015 Critical Updates performed. Channel Error is 808 and seems undocumented.

Hi,
After you install this security update, the minimum allowed DHE key length on client computers is changed to 1,024 bits by default, instead of the previous minimum allowed key length of 512 bits.
Please check if the issue can be resolved after revert to using a 512-bit key length.

To edit this registry entry, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
2. Locate and then click the following subkey in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL\KeyExchangeAlgorithms\Diffie-Hellman

3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
4. Type ClientMinKeyBitLength for the name of the DWORD, and then press Enter.
5. Right-click ClientMinKeyBitLength, and then click Modify.
6. In the Value data box, type 00000200, and then click OK.
Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.
Can we fix this issue?

I hit enter about 40 minutes later and it jumped to a screen that said "Restore successfully completed" i hit enter on the Finish tab for the computer to restart, but it froze again. after about 15 minutes I turned the computer off manually. The computer now says /Windows/system32/winload.exe is missing or corrupt. I can no longer access the restore screen and I was never given recovery discs when I bought the computer from the store. Can I use recovery CD's from another Hewlett Packard computer that runs off of Vista as well? I have the a1730n model and my sister has the a1700n model. Please help!!

Hi. First post for me, so please be patient.

I am constantly getting the error message: "xxxxx.DLL is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette". This appears many times for various applications when the computer starts up, and whenever I open an application. Once I click 'OK', the message disappears and the application opens as usual.

I am running MS Windows XP Professional Version 2002, Service Pack 3.

I believe I have been infected by a Trojan Horse virus.

I have run a HijackThis scan and have the log, but have not posted it here as per Bleepingcomputer's advice.

Please advise on how to proceed - looks like Combofix is the answer but I am technically challenged so will need guidance.

Hi There,

I'm new to the forum so Hi all

OS: Win 7 Home SP1

Recently discovered in the security properties of certain Folders/files have 4 x unkown user 'S-1-5-21 xxxx'
I am able to remove the unknown users, but there are far to many folders to manually remove from all.
Am curious to know if this is some kind of security risk? and is there an easier way of removing the users?

Also noticed if I create a new document within 'documents' in my library then the 4 unknown users appear in security properties?
Yet if I create a document on my desktop I only get sytem/user/admin users created. if i then copy this to 'Documents' Folder in 'libraries' again the 4 'unknown user s-1-5-21 xxxx' are present in security user group?

I have run several thorough virus/malware checks but found nothing?
Also have not created any users apart from my own and am not part of any Domain.

Any help regarding would be much appreciated as after searching the web am seeing conflicting advise.

A:unknown User S-1-5-21 xxxx in Folder properties

Quick update. Have now removed the unknown users from the parent folder 'My Documents' found in libraries. This has removed all unknown users from folders/files found in 'libraries\documents' so problem solved.

Would still like to know where these unknown users originated from though?

That happens when your OS is not activated. You can confirm this by pressing Windows key+S and typing "PC Info". Select it. At the bottom of the information it will tell you something like "Windows is not Activated" or "Windows is Activated"

if it's not activated Microsoft wants you to provide the key to activate your OS.

Ok so I am having a huge problem that I'd like fix. If you also know methods for what to do in the future to prevent this from happening again (second time a HD has failed on me) I'd appreciate it.

Anyways so here's my setup:

CPU: P4 2.8GHz c
MOBO: Abit AI7
RAM: 2 512MB Mushkin 3500 Level II (Running at 2-5-2-2)
The hard drive: Maxtor 6Y200PO

My problems first happened after a random bootup (meaning I hadn't changed anything while I was previously using the computer, just had shut it down for the night). Windows took about 10 minutes to load, and I was having some hardware issues. After looking around at different sites and FAQs, one thing lead to another and I decided to flash my BIOS. ABIT recommended using their new and "wonderful" program called Flashmenu. After downloading this program I downloaded the latest BIOS for my MB. I backed up my old BIOS using Flashmenu then flashed to the latest BIOS and rebooted.

Here's where my problems began.
