Thinkpad Helix 3698-6CG stylus/pen not working at all

Q: Thinkpad Helix 3698-6CG stylus/pen not working at all

Hello,I had problems with OneNote win8-appa dn OneNote 2013 long before this happened: sometimes the touch screen function was completely shut dow and unusable but more often the pen/stylus completely stopped working.I found a workaround for this problem from the forums: installing a wacom driver and using a user-submitted simple batch-file to restart the driver and get rid of the cursor getting stuck in the upper left corner.Today at school I turned on my Helix, opened OneNote and tried to take notes but the pen did not work and there was no cursor; not even in the top left corner. Next thing I did I uninstalled the wacom driver and tried to reinstall it but all I get is "supported tablet was not found on the system" even though I restarted the system with the pen out of the dock. After that I tried all the current versions one after another and nothing helps. It also seems like there's no other drivers on my system as the pen and touch- properties in control panel yields no information or settings regarding the pen - only touch.I have no idea what to do, no idea what drivers to uninstall/reinstall. Can anyone help me or does anyone else have this same problem?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Update: things I've done so far includeun- and reinstalling all related drivers I could find, checking if BIOS is up to date (it is), tried installing wacom drivers, reinstalled windows 8 pro, fully updated windows and all drivers, restarted again and again. There's no response from the pen. Nothing happens when I take it out of the silo and try to use it: clicking and writing both yield nothing. It's like it didn't even exist. As I try to open the pen settings like calibration from the control panel, these setting don't seem to be accessible at all: the pen-related tabs and options that used to be in "pen and touch" and "tablet pc settings" are nowhere to be found. It seems as though the whole hardware part has gone missing and the software with it. There's definitely no trace of any digitizer-related stuff.I tried to install the wacom drivers, all the versions I could find (of course one at a time and uninstalling one before installing another). The latest (7.1.1-16) like all the others can't detect any presence of wacom hardware, even if I remove the pen from the silo and restart the machine with or without it - I tried both ways just to be sure.Everything else works fine. I can use all touch-related actions no prob and I've had no problems with the keyboard. Please help, I have no idea what to do.Forgive me for any grammar mistakes and typos, both posts were made in a hurry.

Hi I got a Helix Type 3698 that looks that only works with USB 3.0 devices, not an external DVD writer or the USB to Ethernet adapter worked. I just reinstall it with Win10Pro, latest drivers installed from support.lenovo.com but still the same problem. The problem is only with the USD ports at the keyboard. If I undock the tablet and connect the device to the USB port on the tablet, it works. Please your help.

I am in posession of a second hand Helix 2 model 20CHS10P02. It comes with Pro, battery equipped keyboard, no bay for a stylus. I was convinced this device is compatible with a Lenovo pen - even though no stylus was supplied with my used machine. I have found misleading information on official Lenovo pages concerning stylus support. The following models were mentioned as compatible: Lenovo Pro/Active Pen 4X80H34887 or passive/no battery pen No. 00HW280. I bought the Pen 4X80H34887 and found out that it does not work with my device (made some troubleshooting concerning battery, pairing, etc). I would rely on live users experience for the above mentioned model, rather than digging through contradictory Lenovo support pages. My questions are as follows:1. What pen, if any, may be used with ThinkPad Helix 2 model 20CHS10P02? (concrete Lenovo model, altertnatives, passive or active, alternative stylus)?2. Is there a chance that my device does not support any pen at all? Please refer to Lenovo manual QUOTE if your tablet does not come with a Tablet Digitizer Pen or a ThinkPad Active Pen your tablet does not support a pen UNQUOTE.3. Is there a way to verify pen support in Windows settings (pen and screen information, device manager?) Regards ww5

There's plenty been written on this topic but a real absense of anything that could be considered a definitive answer. I've certainly  read enough on the subject to reach the conclusion that the only way to limit the likelyhood of purchasing the wrong stylus is to post the exact model and serial number of my thinkpad here and hope that someone might be good enough to point me in the correct direct.so here it is,Helix ver 2model - 20chs10s0nserial no - R90FZZKYI've seen a couple of compatibity lists on this forum but neither had this specific model version listed and it's my understanding that that'sthe important bit. really hope someone can help.thanks for listeningduggy

I went to turn on my helix yesterday and the screen never lit up. The day before it worked fine. I get the red LED indicators on the tablet itself and the keyboard. I have tried charging it longer, docked/undocked, the reset button. Nothing seems to be working. When it is 'on' I can hear the fan working but still nothing on the screen, not even the backlight. About 2 months ago I upgraded to Windows 10 but it has been fine until now. Has anyone else had this issue? If so were you able to resolve and how? Thanks.

Greetings, All! I have a Helix model 3698 that I recently upgraded (wipe and install) to Windows 10.  When I connect it to the keyboard dock, Power doesn't pass through, nor does it recognize the keyboard or trackpoint/pad.  There are no actual error messages, however. When the unit is powered off and connected to the keyboard dock, I can plug in the power supply, and the red LED on the back of the tablet flashes several times. If I connect another Helix to this keyboard dock, it works fine, but another keyboard dock connected to this Helix doesn't work... Any suggestions on what I may have missed? Thanks for your input.

Helix 3698-4SU was running fine, on wifi and connected to a bluetooth speaker.  I could not silence it quickly for a conference call so I did a hard shutdown, holding in the power button.  Now it will not come back on at all.  I've tried holding down the power button for 30 seconds, on and off the keyboard, on and off the charger and nothing works.  I've also tried a variety of combinations of long and short presses on the power button.  Upon placing the tablet on the dock, the red LED above the ThinkPad logo blinks three times.  Where can I find the diagnosis indicated by the three flashes?  Any other ideas?

Hello! I recently aquired a Thinkpad Helix 3698-4su, and while it didn't originally come equipped with a WWAN card I'm keen to add one, specifically something like the Gobi5000 (Sierra Wireless EM7355) work with my gen 1 Helix or will the Bios block it? Also, it has a SIM card tray, and I'll be adding antennas, do I need any additional parts? Sim card reader or is that already in there (I plan to open it up and find out none the less, but a heads up would be great!). Thanks in advance for the assitance.

Note taking with my new Helix is unbelievably frustrating! It's Windows 8 Pro -- fully updated (Windows and Lenovo drivers and apps). I am using Microsoft OneNote 2013. The problem is regular locking up or freezing of one or the other of the touch screen or the pen / stylus. Sometimes the pen still works, but fingers on the touch screen have no effect. Other times the the touch screen works, but not the pen. I'm not 100% certain that it's limited just to OneNote, but that's where it's guaranteed to happen. I can "fix" the problem most of the time by putting the Helix into sleep mode and then waking. Other times I have to shut down and restart. During a two hour session this will happen a dozen times at least. This makes it nearly unusable. Rob

A:Touch screen and pen/stylus stop working - Helix

I experience almost the same problem. It seems that when I use OneNote with the stylus, the touch input stops working. I know that it is supposed to be disabled while using the stylus on/near the screen. What happens is that if I for instance use the stylus, switch to the windows 8 tile screen and try to use my finger nothing happens. If I touch an icon with the stylus it works, and then I can use my fingers - for a little while. Then it stops working again, and I need to use the stylus to reactivate touch input. And so on and so on. I tried to do what bloggs stated could work - to put the device in sleep mode and restart. This resulted in the windows 8-version of the bluescreen...

I updated my Helix to Windows 10 shortly after it was released, and the pen worked great for several months. Then it just quit one day. I have tried everything I can find across the forums to fix it. I've tried updating to the Windows 10 wintab driver, I've tried rolling back to the Windows 8.1 wintab driver. I checked to make sure the firmware was up to date. Nothing is working, and if I try to install the wacom isd driver I get the error a supported tablet was not found on the system. If I go into device manager I can see a driver with a yellow exclamation point pop up under universal serial bus controllers when the pen is removed from its silo. Does anyone have any other suggestions I could try? Or is this most likely a hardware problem?

So I got my Thinkpad p40 a few days ago and so far it's been great, with just one problem. The small stylus, the one that's housed in the body of the laptop doesn't work. I'm not sure if the pen itself is defective, or if the charging port is. The separate full-sized pen, the Thinkpad Pen Pro (4X80H34887) functions just fine. I've left the laptop plugged in overnight multiple nights but to no avail, and there doesn't seem to be any 'pen charging driver' in the driver list, just indicators. I've tried various programs, including Lenovo's low battery indicator and the laptop stylus simply doesn't work at all. The Pen Pro works in all the same situations. Does anyone have suggestions? Thanks!

I am having a problem with a ThinkPad Helix and was looking for some advice on the troubleshooting process. The tablet was dropped and it suffered some damage. When I received the tablet I noticed that it still powered on but there was no video. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that the monitor is still displaying video but it is very dim. When I shine a flashlight to the monitor I can see the windows logon screen and the touch panel recognizes me tapping the screen. The first thing that I tried was replacing the cables that connect the monitor to the motherboard as some of them looked like they had forcefully been removed. This had no effect on the issue as the monitor was still very dim when I powered it on. I thought that the monitor was the problem and decided to replace the entire screen assembly. I was able to get another monitor that matched the part number of mine and swapped it with the old one. When I turned it on after swapping the monitor I stil the had a very dim screen. If it wasn't the monitor or the cables that connect the monitor to the motherboard then the only thing that was left was the motherboard. Again, I found a replacement motherboard for the unit and swapped it. When I powered it on I still had the same issue as before, very dim video. I am still unsure as to what could be causing the issue and any help would be greatly appreciated. It doesn't look like the thinkpad helix has an lcd inverter or I would have tried replacing that first.... Read more

A:ThinkPad Helix No LCD Backlight

First, I have never taken a Helix apart, so I am not an expert. On a normal notebook, when you close the lid, there is a Hall Sensor (magnetic switch) that is tripped when the LCD approaches the palmrest by a magnet in the palmrest. If you have a dock on the helix, I would guess it has a magnet so that the machine can capture the "lid closed" event. My guess is that you broke the sensor inside the screen assembly. The sensor is usually somewhere around the outside of the screen. If you have a dock, you might be able to find the magnet by sliding something like a paper clip around the face

If I chose "Setup" then it became black screen over 10 minutes and never got into BIOS menu. Now it can ONLY boot into current OS Win10 but it's toooooo slow for me to use. Hi Guys, The fan on my laptop had been making an insane amount of noise and the computer had been overheating and shutting down for quite some time.  So finally I took the liberty to order a replacement part from Ebay.  The disassembly was a breeze, the part fit in perfectly and reassembly wasn't bad either.  But when I tried to power up, the fan would spin for a few seconds and then shut down, nothing on the screen.   So by process of elimination, I figured out that if I left the cable connecting the bottom accessories to the motherboard disconnected, it worked fine.  Fan is spinning correctly, no overheating issues.  Of course that leaves with no functioning docstation essentially.  I cannot use the speakers, USB or even the power source from the docking station.   Any ideas here?  Is there a specific pattern that I am supposed to reconnect the cables?  I am attaching a picture with the cable circled in red just for references.  Thanks!

Hello, I have the issue with Recovery partition on Lenovo ThinkPad Helix. I accidentally deleted this partition when I'm tryed to install custom Windows 7 on this tablet PC. Thus, I have a question, how can I get this recovery image for Lenovo Helix? Thank you in advance.

A:Recovery partition on Lenovo ThinkPad Helix

Hi Murdoqq,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

If you deleted the recovery partition, you have deleted the files needed to create the recovery media without which you cannot create a recovery media.

If you get the OEM ISO and re install it, the key should register automatically because it?s flashed into BIOS.

Otherwise, you have to call Lenovo Technical Support and order for a new set of recovery discs. Refer here for further information regarding the same.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

Hi all, My issue is that one day while my laptop was on the bed, it fell onto the floor and I think it broke in half, with the screen assembly seperating partially from the mainboard. I wasn't worried at the time because it seemed like a minor fall, and the computer stayed on and was fine. I snapped the two back together, expecting that nothing was wrong -- but then I noticed the digitizer had stopped working. I turned off and popped open the computer to see if anything inside was visibly damaged. Everything looked fine. It's been a while now, but having been fed up with it, I popped it open and re-checked all the connections to make sure they were tight. It *seems* to me that the digitizer cable may have been folded too aggressively and developed a kink? I could also be seeing something that isn't there. I'm thinking of replacing it, but I don't want to waste $30 for no reason. What could the problem be? Why would what appears to be a perfectly intact and functional digitizer suddenly become absolutely and completely unresponsive? Thanks!

I've had a virus on the laptop/tablet for a while now and it was ruining the PC for me. I tried multiple different free malware detection services but the actual problems always slipped through. I didn't want to have to pay for a whole new program just to clean it out, and because this is a fairly new device I decided to just factory reset the whole thing. I followed the steps in the user manual and a couple of different internet sites, but I've hit a brick wall. I have a ThinkPad Helix 2 that powers on, displays Lenovo screen and if nothing is pressed it goes dead and restarts (cycle just continues).  If I press Enter when the Lenovo screen comes up it shows "0271 - Check Date & Time Settings" and then Press Esc to Continue or F1 to enter setup...then it goes dead and restarts.  I can get into setup for a fraction of a second if I am fast, but then it still goes dead and restarts. Any idea whether I can do some form of a reset without having to have the device powered on?  Or does it sound like the main PCB is a goner? Thanks,

I have bought a Thinkpad Helix 2 used. It came without pen. I do not know which kind of pen could I use. In the device specifications says that the system has pen and touch support with 10 touch points. I opened a draw app and I tried to paint with my nail, finger and another pen from an old ebook and it did not work. So I guess that my screen is capacitive and probably needs an active pen with batteries, but I am not fully sured. Can somebody help me to identify wich pen is compatible, please. Thanks in advance.

I recently did a big update, which involved updating the BIOS (from version 1.91 to 1.93). Since then the speakers on the tablet, and headphones when attached, no longer produce sound. Sound works okay from the keyboard speakers. I've tried updating the driver (intel smart sound technology), as well as rolling back, uninstalling and reinstalling the driver. Nothing has worked so far. My best guess is that the BIOS update is responsible, since the tablet speakers and headphones also no longer work in linux, but did before the update. Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions for a fix to try before downgrading the bios would be highly appreciated.

Synaptics Thinkpad Ultranav driver download is stuck with the round and round and round icon. How do I get it downloaded? Is it because I have a prior version of Synaptics still installed?
