I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Check task manager to see what % your CPU is running. You may have some malware or failty software that is occupying almost all the CPU time.

I just got this HP Pavilion x360 (the convertible laptop/tablet) last week, and I've been having troubles with the keyboard. On certain websites, such as this one, there is no typing delay. However, on Facebook, Facebook Messenger, and Word Online, the characters I'm typing DO NOT appear on the screen at the same time that I'm typing them. It either freezes for a second and then quickly inputs all of what I've typed, or it just takes a few seconds longer for each key I press to show up on the screen. I've checeked to make sure Filterkeys isn't enabled and that no extensions are running in the browser. This happens in both Microsoft Edge and Chrome. P.S. when I was registering for an HP support account, I just realized that the @ key and the " are switched. So shift+2 gives me an ", and shift+" gives me an @ sign. Please help! I really like the computer other than this horrible typing lag.

I'm so new to this, and have no idea how to fix the typing delay/skip problem after I updated to windows 10. I have scanned my computer and there was no spyware/malware/virus detected that would result in this problem.

Is there any help out there? Thanks!

Hi everyone ! My yoga 500 has this very annoying issue since yesterday (after an update on i-tunes, I don't know if this is related...): - Anything I type on the physical keyboard appears "s" letter, even if I type on the numbers or enter- I restarted many times- The screen keyboard works ok- I can't even log in when I start from the keyboard, I have to switch to tablet mode and use the screen keyboard- I started fresh with a clean installation of Windows as suggested in Windows 10 recovery advanced startup   > didn't help- I checked the language of the keyboard, that is OK-There is no Nmlock key on my keyboard, but I tried a few Shift/Alt combinations proposed on the web forums> didn't help Does anyone had the same issue ?I looked for the solution on this forum but couldn't find, hope I don't repost anything already discussed and apologies if that was the case. I am writing this form a different notebook and hope I can get help from experts ! Have a great day

This happens quite often and usually a reboot fixes the problem but I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing this issue.

Once my laptop has been running for a while (day or two) I will notice that when I am pounding away at the keyboard typing there will be a delay until the characters actually show up. Sometimes I am 8-10 characters ahead of what is being displayed on the screen. It makes it real hard to understand if I have typed the correct letter/characters sometimes. If I go to tap the Backspace key a few times to delete it's delayed as well.

When I reboot the problem is gone. Very strange problem and I am sure it's a bug or something that causes a memory leak of some sort somewhere. Call me crazy... LOL!

Anybody else experience this?

I'm curious as to whether yer keyboard is a USB one. Could be the USB port is underpowered or something. You could try plugging your keyboard into another port (if it is USB). Do not plug it into a USB hub. Try plugging it directly into one of the rear ports on your computer.

Hello everyone ! I have a slight problem with my wifes typing on web pages and that seems to be the only place it takes place does not happen in word or any other software installed just the world wide web. she is using IE 8 due to the fact she will not let me upgrade here system from XP so anyway whenever she starts hammering away over there in he corner the text input on the web page does not keep up with her input on the key board. She has to stop for 2 to 4 seconds and wait for her typing to appear on the screen . Have not had the chance to disable all add ons yet as she always seems to be there when I have a chance to work on her system. I have though run several virus scans and malware scans and so forth and so on but nothing really showing up to amount to anything. Everything goes in fine in word and whatever else she uses just seems to be the web . I hope I have been clear enough to explain the situation so if more info is needed I will do my best to offer and continue to research on.

No, but i can probably tell you that the problem is the 1.60GHz processor. You will probably need atleast 1.80GHz to 2.00GHz clock speed.

I am a Wikpedia editor and about a year and a half ago I encountered a problem where when I type something in the edit box, it would take a second before the words actually appeared on the screen. This only happens in wikpedia. So I scanned with Malwarebytes and got a malware and quarantined it. After that the issue was gone. About a week ago the problem came back. But I don't know if it's malware again, because Malwarebytes and Avast couldn't catch it. Please help me get rid of this annoying problem.

16 GB DDR3 RAM
256 GB Solid-State Drive

Randomly while I use the laptop, I get an odd typing and deleting delay. When deleting a line of text, it goes realllllly slow. When I type quickly, there is a noticeable delay as well.

This lag doesnt happen always but once it starts, i usually have to restart my pc to get it to stop. Is there something wrong with the intel driver? or what i have no idea!!

Thank you for any insight/suggestions

Hello there, this problem is not extremely important, so by all means, if someone else needs to be helped first, no problem.

When I open firefox 3 or the IE Explorer, and I procede to type in the search bar of any search engine or just the address bar there is a slight delay in when I type to when the typed shows up on the screen. Just wanted to know if there is any remedy to this situation.

Steps I have taken....

1. I have just rebounded from a devistating virus attack. Thanks to your forums and Simon I was able to get things cleaned up.

2. I am using clamwin as anti virus

3. I am always scanning my pc for malwar via spybot, ad aware and other such programs as well.

If you need a greater detail for what I have done in reguards to the virus there is probably a way you can link to my other posts in the other forum.

Let me know, and thanks again in advance.

When I restart or turn on my lap top after it's been off for a while it will only give me my background picture. No icons, no start menu at the bottom, nothing. Until I try to run a new task from the task manager (CTRL-ALT-DEL is the only keystroke-type command I know) Then everything starts appearing as if nothing was wrong. When I type online there is a huge delay between when I push the buttons and when they appear on the screen. My virus scans show nothing is wrong. (I use trend-mirco's firewall and virus scanning products and also use firefox and I don't know if trend-micro only works on internet explorer or not...) I tried defragmenting to try and speed up the typing ting but it did no good... I don't know what is wrong but I do know that I can't get the updates from the updates.microsort.com website even though they are in the trusted websites thing in internet explorer (which is what I used to try and get the updates because you can't get them through firefox) and every time I open the computer (even from stand-by) I get a message from trend micro telling me it is stopping unauthorized changes and that change is some sort of "program Library Injection" that has to be blocked about a hundred times in a minute for the first 2 to 5 minutes of the computer being on. I don't know what is wrong but I do know that something is not right.

Hi all.

I come now with a new problem. I pretended for some time I did not care, but that is now making me pull the hair from my head.

I installed something (which I did not pay attention to at that time and I don't remember what it was) and too many other programs after that (programs I constantly use, and therefore I don't want to get rid of). If I roll back my computer to an earlier time to dismiss this problem, I would be uninstalling all those valuable programs I am talking about.

Since the first installation, when I select in excel (using the mouse), when I am typing in Word, Internet or whatever other program, things stop working. There is a delay in response. I type, but I don't see what is just typed on the screen, because the computer freezes undexpectedly, and then it comes with the whole thing at once. In the meantime, I could have made a mistake in typing, but because I couldn't see it right away on the screen, I cannot be sure if I made it, and have to wait until the computer 'defreezes' back and keeps working along.
The delay doesn't last too long, but it's frequent and recurrent. So it's always there. It is a pain in the neck, and I am being very decent to say it.

It is not the Ram, because I have plenty of it. It is not the speed of the chip, because my computer is not old. It is not a wrong installation of the programs I installed because everything works fine at the end. It is just that freaking delay that re... Read more

Title I wanted to use: Windows XP SP3: Slow Startup / Boot: Black Screen Delay & Delay after logging in

For some reason I can't preview my post when I use this title: I have tried removing all the punctuation, including the &, which doesn't work and have tried other titles with the same character length, which does work.

Problem Begins Here:

When I turn on or restart my computer, the boot up time from the time I press the power button to the time the final icon on my desktop loads is slow. I am not too concerned about the time after my desktop is shown since I have several items to run at startup.

The two areas of concern are:

1) After the XP logo is shown, my screen goes black. This lasts for about 17 to 19 seconds. I don't know when this started as I rarely restart my computer. The problem is worse if I startup in Safe Mode. It's about 1 minute and 10 seconds before I see anything on the screen, and another 40 seconds before something else is shown on screen. Note: In order to not to have to waste time pressing F8 and choosing Safe Mode, I enter safe mode by specifying so in msconfig. The options I chose were /SAFEBOOT and Minimal.

2) After I login, there is a delay of about 30 to 45 seconds before the desktop is shown. Windows stays at the login confirmation screen during that time. This I feel has happened recently.

Boot Time Results tested using a stopwatch:

Normal Boot (i.e. Not Safe Mode):

When I input something with my keyboard, the touchpad/trackpoint doesn't accept any clicking for about ~0.5 seconds. Its a small delay but it is driving me insane. T460 laptop, Synaptics Clickpad V1.1 Things I've tried:-  Reinstalling drivers, and restarting laptop. Nothing changed.-  Turned palm rejection to minimum. This fixes an earlier problem where the mouse would stop moving with keyboard presses, but it doesn't affect the clicking delay.-  Went into the registry editor, found 'synaptics' under 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE' but couldn't find any variables that indicate a delay after keyboard presses. I'd really appreciate any help with this. ~3 hours of googling isn't helping me. Windows 10
Start - Settings - Ease of Access - Keyboard

Everything here is off. If i turn on the On-Screen Keyboard no keys are Highlighted (indicating they are depressed/stuck )
When I use the hard keyboard and sometimes even the onscreen keyboard its as if either Ctrl, Alt Win or something are pressed down as it just types shortcuts.
EG:

-H- typed into chrome browser address bar via onscreen keyboard types as normal
-H- typed into chrome browser address bar via hard keyboard brings up -Chrome://history- But now also on the onscreen keyboard Ctrl is Highlighted.
I click on the onscreen keyboard to deactivate the now highlighted Ctrl button and try again. Now things are different, as now both the onscreen keyboard and the hard keyboard both bring up ?Chrome://history- when -H- is typed ( Shift is not depressed )

This seems to randomly cycle one min onscreen keyboard works fine, next the keyboard works fine or they either work or none of the work rendering the computer useless.

I cant help feel it?s a software issue but im no pro and I don?t have an additional external keyboard to try but as the onscreen and hard keyboard work ok for a while sometimes I assume something is up and that?s what brought me here.

Hopefully this is clear enough to be understood and to help others who may have the same issue.

Thank you so much for your time.

For the most part it is running fine but whenever you try to type whether its in a browser, email or just in word the typing is delayed, I can sit there and type a whole paragraph sit back and watch it slowly appear on the screen. Please let me know if you have any helpful advice. Thank you.

I would uninstall the keyboard/touchpad/HID drivers...reboot...and see if there is a difference.

After ensuring that there are no food particles, etc. which are possibly intering with the functioning.

I am running Windows XP; just reinstalled Windows (after an infection with a Trojan Horse of some kind) and all was well until I allowed downloads of Windows updates. Installed a batch of updates and now, whenever I type an email message or anything else on the screen (except this...seems fine here); I get lags of about 5 seconds. I type and nothing happens, then the text snaps into place a few seconds later. Sometimes the screen refreshes. No error messages...but the change has been the update of Windows. Wonder if that has installed something that has caused my problem. Clicking seems to be problematic as well with lags.

I also installed Spyware Doctor and PC Tools Anti-Virus yesterday. Seemed not to have caused problems until today. I'm thinking of doing a system restore hoping to by-pass whatever is causing the problem, but I don't want to by-pass my spyware and anti-virus software. Any thoughts?

Anyway PC much better now but still problems.
1) After boot up it still seems to be busy paging the disk and was seemingly running internet explorer in memory even though no applications were open.

2) Intermittant delay using keyboard and mouse (on a single USB connector) sometimes I can type in several words and the PC will wait then type them on screen in one go or I can click on an icon or command and there will be up to a 10 second wait before anything happens.

You said last time to reinstall the keyboard..How do I do this?

Should I or could I have brought up my previous thread and added this query? If so, how?

Ok, over the last few days ive noticed that my mouse is lagging, i play a few FPS mainly Americas army, and its almost unbearable to play, because your used to a normal repsonse and so if you go to jump from a corner and predict where to put your mouse u just cant because the mouse is all over the shop, also recoil is harder because of the mouse lag.

I thought it was just the mouse till i noticed after i stopped pressing the walk button i would hear footsteps still and keep walking for like 1/4th of a second afterwards or something like that, this also has made it hard to get through doors and windows and lean around corners because u hold the keyboard down for your usual bit but because of the delay at the start it stuffs your timing and u end up 2ft short of the edge of the wall.

Im not really sure whats the problem here, ive tried using a different keyboard and a different mouse but it didnt fix the problem, ive read other peoples mouse and keyboard threads but i didnt find anything really.

help very much appreciated, the mouse is a $20 (Australian) logitech M-BZ96C
USB and keyboard is an Auriga (prob 2-5 year old same as the spare one but never had any probs with them) which plugs into the purple hole (normal mouse/keyboard holes)

Hello everyone.

I have an issue with my keyboard and USB. I'll start out with my keyboard cause that's the most annoying problem.
When I type sometimes my keyboard just skips a letter/number(symbol whatever) unless I type extremely slow.

I never had this issue on Windows 7, but after I installed Windows 10 this happend.
At Device manager my keyboard is installed as a Standard PS/2-Keyboard

Hardware ids

Now to continue with my USB 2.0 ports
Currently I can only use my mouse on my 3.0 port. If I insert it in 1 of my 2.0 ports... Then just a light burns but my laptop doesn't show anything. But I do see that my mouse gets powered up from the USB (its just a normal microsoft mouse that doesn't require any drivers)

Now here is the real weird part...

In device manager I have 1 driver that isn't installed proper (But it was installed normal when I installed Win10)
But after awhile my USB 2.0 driver needed to be reinstalled each time ...
It's an "Unknown Device" in Device manager. And @Windows updates I can see that Windows noticed it and tries to reinstall the driver but Fails each and everytime.

This is the hardware ID for my USB 2.0 ports

Short story, it's the drivers IMO.

I think you need to pull the 2.0 completely and reinstall, you'll then find the 2.0 ports should come back.

I don't see Internet Explorer starting up at system startup. As for the keyboard reinstallation, do you have a disk that came with your keyboard? If you do, pop it in, access the menu, and see if there is any reinstallation feature. There usually is with drivers.

So I decided to clean my usb keyboard so I opened it with some screw drivers, little did I kow the re-assembly would be so difficut. There where these little plastic pieces for each key but they where loosly placed on some plastic sheets. I did my best at placing everything and pluged it in.

It won't type now. First time it wasn't typing but then I did something, and it typed again but a couple keys where not, so I reopened, placed and tried again. Now it's not typing at all. I'm on the on-screen kb and when I press num lock and caps lock the little green lights do turn on the usb keyboard.

I've tried uninstallng and reinstalling the drivers many times but it doesnt work. Also, for some reason, 2 HID KB devices appear, and it keeps installing one of them when scanning for plug n play devices, even when it's not plugged in.

So help please, thanks!

my colleague at work uses a Dell Inspiron 1501, 512mb ddr2-4300, AMD mobile turion 64 2.0ghz running windows xp sp2, which i just updated to sp3
We have just reinstalled windows xp, as it was full of rubbish and we wanted to improve the speed of it
before i reinstalled, i noticed that on my computer properties, it said that the cpu was running at 797mhz, however at times it does go back up to 2.0ghz.
It still does this after the reinstall.
The main issue is that there is almost constant keyboard lag, each letter will take a few seconds delay before it is on the screen.
I have tried everything i know, has anyone else had this problem before??
Could it be anything to do with the cpu freq issue? or ram?
any help is greatly appreciated

A:keyboard/typing lag

If you've only got 512meg of ram for XP, then you only have HALF enough.
Dell is famous for NOT installing enough ram for the installed OS.

That computer will run MUCH better with a full gigabyte and even better yet with TWO.

When the keyboard is lagging it means that the CPU is too busy to service the keyboard. The keyboard has a very low priority.

Without enough ram, your OS is living off of the hard drive. That's over a thousand times slower than the ram it should be using.

Then if you've loaded some heavy duty, resource hog, like Norton, all bets are off for getting any kind of performance out of that underpowered system.

You could also have services that you don't need and background programs that you don't need....running all the time and just sucking up system resources.

Get more Ram.

When I go into device manager it shows that the device is responding correcting and is not reporting any issues.

Hey gang, maybe someone out there can help me with this?

Every now and then, for some unknown reason, my keyboard gets a mind of it's own and begins typing letters I didn't strike.

It only happens when I'm already typing, like I'll be writing something and suddenly my word will turn into "week444444444444."

For some odd reason, a group of numbers just show up sometimes, inserting themselves into words I'm typing.

I'm wondering if it's because I currently use a device to share a keyboard and mouse between two computers. Maybe once I unhook that device, things will work normally. Though I'm not having that problem on the other computer sharing the keyboard, so that might not be it.

I dunno, it's mighty confusing. I can live with it, though if there's a way to fix it, I'd certainly love to give it a shot.

Anyone out there got any suggestions? I'd sure appreciate them!

Cheers,

Snaithbert

I got a laptop One K56-3N2 (Clevo P157SM) and it's keyboard keeps typing "\" without me pressing it. I tried cleaning the key but the problem persisted. I tried turning the "\"-key off / remapping it with an aplication and it did work in a way. I could remap the "\"-key to do something else, like to be a left arrow, and when i press it did work like a left arrow but it still wouldn't stop typing "\" without me pressing it.

Started a few days ago and has gotten progressively worse. Keyboard keeps typing stuff, not actual words just stuff like ?&!!!!!$ or the back button etc. Sometimes it's gone for a few hours and then it comes back even worse. I ran AVG which found nothing, Malwarebytes which found 4 infected files and deleted them, and Search and Destroy which deleted what it found. And yet, the problem persists.

I don't have access to the original Windows CD so I'm unable to reboot.

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions as I am way out of my element here.

Hello all;

recently, my ASUS laptop keyboard has been acting really erratic. Some examples are that every time I press a key, it types a different key or another key along with it, some keys simply don't work at all, and some keys just initiate some kind of massive sequence of autotyping a single character or random characters.

At first, I thought something must be wrong with the physical keyboard itself, but the day after I noticed the issue (which is actually today), I discovered some functions of my internet browsers aren't working probably either and not only because of the unknown keystrokes. Some of the website certificates I visited suddenly weren't trusted.

To go along with that, the touch pad I use to navigate and click on items tends to go in and out, but the actual two mouse buttons work fine. Another strange quirk when I opened notepad was that somehow the auto-key strokes started typing my computer's date and time!

I have run the latest MalwareBytes anti-malware with a full-scan and did remove some malicious objects, but the problem still remains. Could I have a virus/key-logger? Can anyone help?

Thanks for any assistance

A:Keyboard typing on its own

Have you tried using another keyboard?
What model Asus is it?

The certificate problem could be the computer clock is off which usually means a bad CMOS battery.

EDIT:  Any chance some liquid could of been spilled on it?

Greetings,
I have a brand new Dell T7500 Precision Workstation running Win7 64-bit.  I have a MS Laser Mouse 6000 v2.0 and a MS Wireless Keyboard 6000 v3.0 using the latest Intellipoint/type drivers.  After I log into my user profile within a few minutes
the mouse pointer will lag behind the movements of the mouse making it virtually impossible to land specifically on a spot on the screen.  My keyboard is also delayed and as I type, characters are delayed.  It seems that there is some process
going on in the background that kicks in slowing the mouse & keyboard down.  How do I go about troubleshooting what might be causing the slowdown?  Batteries are new, dongle is visible and within 2 feet of both mouse and keyboard, and I
have also replaced the dongle.
Thanks all, very much.

A:Mouse & keyboard delay in Windows 7

Thank you Alex.  I tried all the steps in the kb article but to no avail.  I am currently using a wired keyboard and wired mouse and naturally, get none of the delays or lagging issues.  So, it is likely not some background process on
the computer but might be something in the area of my computer that is creating interference.  I tried changing the USB ports, the batteries, re-syncing and am using the most current Intellipoint/type drivers.  But nothing helps so, I think
that I will just stick with the wired devices.
Very grateful for your help.

Vista Home 32 bit

We had a HP G60 laptop come in to the shop that has me stumped. There is a long delay after each and every keypress.

This is not the common symptom you see where there is a lag related to excessive CPU overhead.

When any key is pressed, you hear a 'bloop' sound coming from the speaker. If you let up on the key after it pressed for less than one second, there is never any output. The only way is to get output is to press and hold each key for one full second before the keypress is reflected in any application. At the time the character is actually created there is also a 'bloop' sound.

Also, if the key is pressed for over one second there is never a repeat.

I have checked the accessibility and 'ease of use' options for anything system-wide, and no options are in place. all 'sticky keys' and similar options are disabled. I even enabled and re-disabled them to make sure a registry flag wasn't set somewhere.

I checked the keyboard delay/repeat options in control panel

I have removed and reinstalled the keyboard driver. Actually, I let windows find a generic keyboard driver, and rebooted to no avail. I then went to HP's website and got their keyboard driver.

I also tried a USB keyboard, but get the same results.

Booting into safe mode does the same thing. BIOS screen and booting from Linux CD do not produce this undesirable situation, so I know it is not a hardware problem

Well whenever i go and play a game such as Counter-Strike: Source, Halo2, Battlefield 2142, Crysis, or FEAR, the mouse is always delayed about half a second.
