Disabling the Proxy Server Setting

Q: Disabling the Proxy Server Setting

Hello, I use a web accelerator called ExpressLink. When I connect to the Internet the proxy server setting is getting turned on automatically even though it is not necessary when using the accelerator. If I disable the proxy server setting, it usually gets turned on again. I do not have any ISP software installed. How do I keep this from happening? I am using Windows XP Home. Preferred Solution: Disabling the Proxy Server Setting

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:Disabling the Proxy Server Setting

The accelerator IS the proxy. The proxy settings probably look like "localhost:8080" or something like that, right? If that's the case, you would need to disable the accelerator, which is probably not something you want to do anyway, so you will need to leave the proxy settings enabled.

Hey guys, I apologize in advance, but I want to let you guys know I am not tech-savvy whatsoever; I fell upon this forum by google searching repeatedly on issues my computer is having; Anyway, I think I have cornered down the problem;

I am unable to connect to the internet with my desktop (all other devices in my house are able to connect)

chrome, IE, etc etc are all giving me the error that they "could not connect to the proxy"
I go into my browser settings to disable the proxy which I never set up, and, it is automatically re-enabled; Obviously I have malware of some kind;

I have ran hitman 64bit, malwarebytes, and neither of them succeeded; I was reading multiple threads on this forum from people who were having the same issue and noticed that the mods/"consultants" here were asking them to have some kind of scanner run and create a log for them to see; I also noticed the solutions they offered were specific to the OP's computer, and thus, could not be used by others reading.

So, I have created this thread in hopes that someone can help me. Just tell me what to do and ill get right on it!
Thanks guys, I really appreciate the help;

A:Malware setting up a proxy and preventing me from disabling it

Also, I have a dell desktop with a preinstalled version of windows;

The F**** joke of a "reset/recovery" disc made in windows 8 doesnt work; I have created a repair disc using the program in windows 8, and, when I try to use it, it tells me the "media is not valid"

I have also looked up my product key using belclair or something like that, and went to microsoft's website, only for them to reject the product key in a new installation of windows;

therefore, I can not do a clean install of windows 8; I am bleep out of luck here with dell and microsoft and it seems my only option is getting rid of this malware myself;

My Win8 Start Page apps stopped working - could not access internet. Then I noticed Dropbox couldn't get a "secure connection". But Firefox browser and my email client had no problem with the internet. After hunting around a bit, I discovered that Proxy Server was checked in the LAN Settings of Internet Options-Connections tab. I turned it off and all was well, but it came back on the next boot. I can't find anything suspicious in my autostarted programs and the built-in MS security software isn't complaining about anything.

Anybody have any ideas? I'm fresh out of things to try. Meanwhile I keep resetting the Proxy check box whenever I have to re-boot.

A:Something is setting proxy server

If you haven't tried using System Restore yet, it's pretty handy for this sort of trouble.

From the Windows 8 Start Screen, type Recovery, then click Settings, then click Recovery, and then select Open System Restore. Choose a restore point from before your proxy settings started reinventing themselves.

Best of luck

Hi,
I have Squid installed on a Linux box running OpenSuSE 10.3. Does anyone know of a guide for configuring it for public access. So far it works fine from inside my internal network.

Does anyone know of any other proxy server programs for linux? Thanks.

A:Setting up a public proxy server

Hum.. Why are you doing this? You do realise that you will not be able to keep this proxy "secret" (even if you use non-default ports)? There are literally thousands of machines out there doing port scans and looking for open proxies just like yours. Once found, your machine becomes a conduit for everything that needs to be hidden from law enforcement officials. (And you will be the one questioned about all that child porn, hacking attempts and spam.) You should be prepared to keep throrough logs of everything and have a fast internet connection.

Anyway, first you should find out whether it is your firewall or Squid itself that is blocking access from the internet.

For all the Squid documentation you would ever want, try the totally unthinkable www.squid.org

Hi all

We have just installed Websense Software for Internet Filtering. We now want to point all our 250+ PCs to the Proxy Server. Rather than doing this individually on each PC, I understand this can be done via Group Policy (GP). I have identified that in the UserConfig, under Windows Settings\Internet Explorer Maintenance\connection you can select Proxy Settings. Here I enable Proxy, set the Proxy IP and to use the same proxy for all addresses.
On saving and assigning the GPO to the workstation, it fails to apply the settings. However, if you manually set the options under the Tools\Connections Tab within IE6 it works fine.

We are running Server 2003 with XP Workstaions (Sp2) with IE6. All fully patched.

Anyone got any ideas!!!!!

Dave:

A:Proxy Server setting via Group Policy

You can make that change in your default domain policy
under the user configuration.
It should work withou applying it to workstations.
Since you are making the change apply to users....no workstations
are needed to be specified.

Hey guys,

I've been digging through forums and sites for the past couple months now trying to find a way to help me turn my home PC into a proxy server so I may use Pandora Radio on my iPhone over public WIFI at work. Recently our corporate offices upgraded their network and in turn added a firewall which blocks many common external sites, one of which included Pandora.

I have found a temporary workaround by way of using Hotspot Shield's free VPN services, but I would like to create my own proxy server at home instead so I can avoid the constant timeouts/disconnects involved with the free service.

So far I've set up my PC to use a static IP on the network, and forwarded port 1723 to that address. I've also enabled incoming connections under adapter settings, but it just seems like I'm missing something big here. I am unable to make a connection to my home PC from my iPhone over WAN, and even if I was able to I'm not sure how to enable internet connection sharing over that connection.

Is what I would like to do at all possible or feasible? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hello,

I have strange issue with Windows 8.1 x64 Pro with Media Center. Since it was upgraded from 8, there have been issues with Software Store. Despite internet connection working fine with Firefox and other applications, Store would not connect to the internet. After long investigation I found out that Proxy server setting in Control Panel -> Internet Options -> Connections -> LAN Settings must be disabled in order to get Store working again. For some reason proxy server only stays disabled for the current session, which means when the windows is rebooted it comes back enabled again. I appear to be the victim of some piece of malware or virus that has added a proxy server setting that I am unable to get rid of. The main symptoms are that I am unable to change my proxy server settings in Windows 10. It appears to use this setting http=127.0.0.1:8080;. The result of this is that I am unable to do searches in the omnibar of Google Chrome (just takes me to a blank page) and I can't visit certain webpages, also if I am able to do a Google search the "Search Tools" button is missing.

I looked around on the internet and have tried a few fixes, I've deleted or changed the registry entries mentioned in Philip Turner's reply here: https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/446898-can-t-disable-proxy-in-ie10?page=1

I also changed the entry mentioned here: https://fixedit.itxpress.biz/2014/10/08/unable-to-disable-windows-proxy-setting/

Making these changes allowed me to change the proxy server settings and once I change "Automatically detect settings" to on and "Use a a proxy server" to off then the issue is fixed and everything behaves normally.

The problem is, once I restart my computer the settings revert back and are again unable to be changed unless I delete/change all the above registry entries again. I'm pretty sure that whatever did this is still on my computer somewhere and I need some help finding and eliminating it. Either that, or there is still some hidden registry entry that I am unable to find.

Hiya
This is a spoofing vulnerability that exists in the affected products and that could enable an attacker to spoof trusted Internet content. Users could believe they are accessing trusted Internet content when in reality they are accessing malicious Internet content, for example a malicious Web site. However, an attacker would first have to persuade a user to visit the attacker’s site to attempt to exploit this vulnerability.
Affected Software:

• Microsoft Proxy Server 2.0 Service Pack 1
• Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2000 Service Pack 1 and Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2000 Service Pack 2

Note The following software programs include Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2000 (ISA Server 2000). Customers using these software programs should install the provided ISA Server 2000 security update.

We run a web proxy server on our network for internet access.
On client machines (running Windows 2012 R2) I have configured the proxy server setting in Internet Explorer "Tools\Internet Settings\Connections\LAN Settings" to point at the designated web proxy server.
When attempting to browse websites from IE I receive the "The proxy server isn't responding" error.
Conversely, browsing the same sites via Google Chrome and Firefox (installed on the same client server) return web pages without error.
In addition, if I run Internet Explorer as administrator (Right Click\Run as Administrator), I am able to browse web sites without receiving the error.
It would appear that the issue is isolated to browsing via IE when not run in elevated mode.
Has anyone come across this issue?

Hi Dicki,
First, please try to reset the Internet Explorer. Some plug-ins may affect the proxy.
If it doesn't work, please try to perform a network capture on the client.
Please check if the client send the http traffic to the proxy server at the correct port.
If the client has sent the http traffic to the proxy server, please check if there is any warning or error in the proxy server.

from what i can gather it involves setting up tings with DNS, and sharing the connection to the internet, but i am not getting to far at the mo.
can anyone point me in the right direction or better tell me how to do it?
cheers

I upgraded my computer to windows 10 and now, the proxy settings keeps getting reset to 127.0.0.1 and I loose internet connection until I go to internet explorer and remove that settings - it is really annoying - how do I completely remove it once and 4all.

Thanks for the responses and help in advance.

A:Proxy Setting 127.0.0.1

127.0.0.1 is the local host (Ethernet address)

Search for Internet Options>>Connections>>Lan Settings>>Uncheck all check boxes expect Use Automatic Settings and click apply and ok, that should fix it.

 What does it do when you set up your own proxy using google apps and python engine? I did that not long ago just to see if i could but dont know how a circular route would be any better (circular route- a google account traceable to my ip, setting up a proxy that uses said google account.) Whats the deal with this way of doing it?  Its worked to get passed certain blocked sites but then its also barred me from other sites that don't allow proxy logons.

My parents have a problem with their internet connection. They can visit a few sites, but usually when they try to go somewhere a message will pop up saying "The connection was refused when attempting to contact the proxy server you have configured. Please check your proxy settings and try again."

A:Proxy setting issue

Take it your using IE with a recent version of windows?

Access internet options in the control panel.
At the top of menu choose 'connections'
You should have a box showing your internet connection, click 'settings on the right.
in next window half way down see box which says something along the lines of always use proxy server, take tick out of that box if ticked.

May work for you, i'm no expert!!!!!!!!!

Hello, it has been a while since I had this problem but I never gave any attention to it (actually I did but I just thought it was something from my ISP...) but now it is becoming really annoying and after making some research, this problem might be more dangerous than what it seems to be.

So I believe I have tried everything in my power to stop this, nothing. I tried deleting the proxy setting from the registry in safe mode, did not work. Secondly, I have downloaded Malwarebytes, scanned, deleted the dangerous files. In the same time, downloaded CCleaner, cleaned everything and rebooted, also didn't work. Third, I have downloaded AdwCleaner, used it. Found some things, deleted them also. Rebooted, proxy setting still there. Fourth, downloaded Junkware Removal, found something in Windows files, deleted it. Reboot, still there.

And now I am at my end with it, have no idea what to do and am actually a little scared, I have a lot of files and do not want to do a full restoration. Unfortunately, a simple restoration is not possible because for some reason my OS deletes all the old ones.

For more clarification, I am talking about this:

I hope somebody can help me...I recently switched from a dial-up service to a cable service. When I try to access the internet using @home browser I cannot connect. I have had service calls and spent hours on phone with tech support only to come up empty handed.

It seems that when I go into "tools" and then "connections" and then "lan settings" and I "uncheck" the box for "use automatic configurations script" removing the automatic proxy setting, then I can connect to the internet no problem. As soon as I close out the browser and then try and reconnect...no dice. I have to then go back into tools, connections, lan settings, uncheck the box again and then I'm good to go until I close out the browser again....

How do I stop the pc from defaulting back to that proxy setting?

How do I fix this problem??????? PLEASE HELP!!!

A:Trouble with Proxy setting Help Please!

With all programs closed, try going to Start, Settings, Control Panel. In control panel, double click on internet options. Make your changed on the connection tab and close internet options and control panel. Then try the @home browser.

This should really be the same thing as what you tried since the @home browser is really internet explorer, but maybe the @home browser isn't saving the change correctly.

I have the case:

I'd like to overwrite proxy settings set up via GPO in site policy - 1. User Configuration\Preferences\Control Panel Setting\Internet Settings -> Connections -> LAN settings,

using:

2. User Configuration\Preferences\Windows Settings\Registry -> HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings -> AutoConfigURL = proxy server address.pac

It seems to me, this is the same registry which areapplied in point no.1, but finally it does not working and proxy addresswas not changed.
I have suspection, that the same settings provided by GPO cannot be overwritten by GPP settings?

This is really annoying - when the cable modem software was installed it put a proxy setting in IE.

Every time IE loads, it puts it back. I uninstalled their software in Add/Remove, I uncheck the proxy in IE (5.01 - upgraded to 5.5 in hopes of killing this) and it is gone until I exit IE and restart (not reboot). I found the proxy setting in the registry and removed it, which makes it stay away until I reboot. But then it is back.

So, something is putting the entry back in the registry.

Anybody know what it is and / or how to stop it? Some sites I visit won't work with it, so I have to keep turning it off...

I need your help on a rare problem.

I have enabled "Use Proxy Server" in Internet Option to access Internet. The setting work fine and I have no problem on surfing. However, after surfing for a few hours, IE will suddenly slow down and then I can't go to any web site. I found that the "Use Proxy Server checkbox will be unchecked. Everything resume normal after I enable the proxy server again. The problem will occur several times each day. It is not limited to any specific site and I can't find any special pattern. It just occurs randomly.

I have already used adAware to remove all adware in my machine and there is no virus infection found by Norton Anti-virus. (The signature file is up to date)

P.S. I am using Windows 98 SE and IE 5.5 SP2.

Afternoon everyone i was wondering if someone could help me, i am really keen to learn how to set up a proxy server and was wondering what would be the best place to start, is there a certain application i need to set this up?

A:Advice setting up a proxy

You can use a premade site. There are many on the web. If you are looking to make your own then you will need a web server of some type. Most proxy scripts are for PHP, so once you complete learning web servers, then you can learn PHP.

I am curious to why you want a proxy. Generally they are used for illegal purposes. Often to circumvent web/content filters or other forms of network security. However most decent security setups can detect proxies and block them.

Hey guys, I've been battling this proxy setting that will not go away, instead of staying on automatic, the internet settings is always on proxy, to 127.0.0.1 on port 56507, for both http and secure.
I've run MB and my antivirus, both at full scan, no files left out, both caught a few unrelated pups, I've gone through my program list and got rid of any unwanted/untrusted software, no fix
Really scratching my head, I have 0 access to the internet right now, though any browser, I'm on my phone right now, any help would be appreciated
