Lenovo Z50-75 'Thread stuck in device driver' issue when AC power is plugged in or out.

Q: Lenovo Z50-75 'Thread stuck in device driver' issue when AC power is plugged in or out.

I have a lenovo z50-75. Recently, when playing Football Manager 2017, I have had the 'thread stuck in device driver' blue screen when I connect or disconnect the laptop charger. I have updated all drivers to the latest versions and checked that I have the latest BIOS - A4CN40WW (V 2.09). I also ran a hardware scan on Lenovo Solution Centre which detected no problems.Does anybody know why this is happening and how I could go about fixing it?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I know this has been posted on here with a link to the BIOS update. I am on windows 10 having upgraded from 8.1. It was working fine and then suddenly today, three times the blue error screen came up telling me thread stuck in device driver and the laptop rebooted. However the last of these reboots came after I downloaded and installed the BIOS update from this page.  http://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/downloads/DS100825  I clicked on the BIOS update exe 9.3mb and clicked on download now and then installed it which it seemed to do very quickly and successfully.  Does anyone have any idea what else I could do, this is starting to get worrying and frustrating.  Thanks

This is a relatively new computer, I had the shop local to me put it together last month.

6600 dual core 2.4
2 gigs ddr
Geforce 8600 gt pci express

Decent enough rig.. won't be able to handle Crysis that great but whatever..

Things were working flawlessly for a few weeks, I ran FEAR, Tomb Raider: Legend and a few other games flawlessly.

Then last week I had a printer issue, so I uninstalled the drivers but ran into an issue so I ran a system restore to a few hours earlier. That fixed the printer software but it appeared even tho the software said there was ink, there wasn't any.

So a day or two later I played a little VTM: Bloodlines. Then it started freezing up and the system eventually crashed. I hard booted and got an error popup saying I just recovered from a crash..

Then I was shown this STOP 0x000000EA THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER

I then decided to play a little Hellgate: London.. everything worked fine. But then a few hours later I played again and things froze and I got the same error again.

So I re-installed directx and disabled anti aliasing on Hellgate because supposedly there's a memory leak in regards to anti aliasing on that game. After that the game seemed to run smooth at times but I was getting lag where I shouldn't have. So I uninstalled the game and installed Devil May Cry 3, I played this game for a few hours without any issues.

So I figured ok, its Hellgate.

Then I played the new Fear expansion pack tonight, the same thing... Read more

Hello everyone, For the past week I have had an issue with my computer where it crashes to the blue screen with the error "thread stuck in device driver."  While I have been able to make it so that the computer can function (somewhat) instead of just repeatedly cycling through the error, I have not been able to fix it completely. When the computer idles, goes into sleep mode, has no power connected, tries to open a game (leaugue of legends - the actual game, not the window queue area) the computer will crash with the same error. It will then reload and go back to normal. I will have the ability to browse the internet, listen to music, etc - but anything 'heavy' makes it crash. I am assuming this is an issue with the graphics card (AMD Radeon 7800M) & it compatibility with Windows 10. Drivers for everything are up to date. I've tried system restores, minimized image recovery, windows 7 compatibility test, etc. It seems that the issue follows me into windows 7, but instead of saying "thread stuck in device driver" the computer just wont work at all - instead it will freeze on the windows loading screen. Has anyone else come across this problem and what have you done to completely fix it? I can't have a computer during school that is at risk of crashing for no apparent reason.  Also, side note: I have no brightness control and my computer wont fully turn off. After shutdown, I have to do a hard turn off when the HDD finishes turning of... Read more

Not every Windows 7 machine can be upgraded successfully to Win10 -- despite the misinformation that the Win10 Compatibility Appraiser tool provides! Your machine does NOT have Win10 drivers -- so you are stuck making one of two decisions:1)  Live with the missing functionality -- since it's unlikely that new drivers are going to be written for a Win7-era machine2) Use HP recovery media to restore your machine to its original working condition. I had an HP Win7 laptop fail Win10 upgrade and I restored it to Win7 -- because: A machine running an older OS with ALL the hardware working is a much better device than a machine running an new OS with only SOME of the hardware working.

The Driver Verifier can be useful in finding a faulty driver and listing it.

1)  To endable Driver Verifier click on the Start orb, then type cmd in the Search programs and files box.  cmd will appear above the search box in Programs, right click on cmd and choose Run as administrator

2)  The Elevated Command Prompt will appear.  You will see a window similar to the image below.

3)  In the Elevated Command Prompt type or copy and paste verifier /standard /all.  If you type this please not the space between verifier and /standard and /all.

4)  Reboot your computer and run it until it crashes.

5)  If there is a faulty driver Verifier should list it.  Once you have identified the faulty driver download the latest drivers for this device and install them.

6)  After you have successfully installed the drivers boot into Safe Mode.

For those unfamiliar with this, with the computer turned off press the power button on your computer and immediately start tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Boot Options open.  If the operating system starts to boot you will need to try this again.

When you boot into the Advanced Boot Options you will see an image similar to the one below.

Recently I started to have a problem with my computer where under CPU stress the computer would crash and show the stop code "Thread stuck in device driver" in an attempt to fix it I've searched for updates on all my drivers and updated my graphics card driver, audio driver, and a few system drivers. However this did not solve the issue, so I went on to update my BIOS, but this did not seem to help either. However recently I attempted to roll back my graphics card driver to the previous version, and for a day this seemed to fix the issue, where I could run programs fine without any crashes. But at the end of the day, the issue came back. Since then i have re-updated the graphics driver but that too did not seem to help. My next idea would be to do a clean re-install of the graphics driver and run a virus scan, but I do not anticipated either of these options helping. Other than that I am at a loss as to what to do to fix this problem.

Here are system stats as well as the graphics and audio drivers in question:

A:Thread Stuck in Device Driver

Hi. . .

Test the audio and video drivers + all other 3rd party drivers with the Microsoft Driver Verifier.

Please run Driver Verifier - Driver Verifier - Windows 10, 8.1, 8, 7 & Vista (BSOD-related)

Let it run for at least 24 hours in the background. You can use the system while Driver Verifier is running, but you may notice some system slowness as Driver Verifier does utilize heavy system resources. Also, keep in mind that if Driver Verifier flags a 3rd party driver, it will BSOD your system immediately. Be sure to save any work as often as possible.

If Driver Verifier does BSOD your system, get the VERIFIER_ENABLED dump from \windows\minidump. The filenames contain dates, so it should be easy to find. Copy the dump out to Desktop or Documents; zip it up and attach to your next post. Windows WILL NOT allow you to zip the dump while it resides in \windows\minidump.

Actually, in lieu of zipping just the VERIFIER_ENABLED dump, please run Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions - Windows 10, 8.1, 8, 7 & Vista. This will allow me to take a look at the other mini kernel memory dumps + about 2 dozen system related files.

The Sysnative/jcgriff2 app normally takes between 3 and 15 minutes to run, depending on system specs.

Regards. . .

A:THREAD STUCK IN DEVICE DRIVER

 > THREAD STUCK IN DEVICE DRIVER  Most modern CPUs have multiple processors, e.g., 4 or 8 in Intel i5 and i7 CPUs. Many programs exploit the multiple processors on such CPUs, by launching a "thread", and asking the CPU to assign the "thread" to one of the processors, while the other processors continue to do other things, such as "audio-output" and "headset-microphone-input". The programs keep track of which threads report that they have finished the unit of "work" assigned to them. But, in your case, one thread that was addressed to a device-driver (software that "talks" directly to hardware) has either failed to complete, or failed to notify the invoking process that it has completed. So, look for an updated device-driver for your video-adapter, or your sound-card, or look for an updated version of the computer program that you are using.

I read somewhere to uncheck the tic mark by the reboot after system fail, in order to be able to see what the error was. It kept restarting every 5 minutes or so until I unmarked that box. Now it has not reset, but my CA Eztrust antivirus keeps having update failures. If I take my EZ firewall off I cannot make my windows firewall come up. I recently installed a Gigabyte Radeon HD7750 graphics card and the latest driver - at12mtag 9.0.100.1000 (catalyst 13.4) for win XP.
Since then, I have had frequent crashes, normally without the BSOD.

The program WhoCrashed analysis points to a problem with the file ati2cqag.dll each time. (The actual analysis is at the foot of this post).

I have downloaded (but not run as yet) the recommended driver from the Gigabyte website, i.e. vga_driver_amd_xp_8.982.exe

This appears to be older than the one currently installed, so I'm wondering if there is a known problem with the driver I'm using?

Also, there are a number of ati2cqag.dll files in my C:\windows directory: -

one in system32\DRVSTORE\ ..... which is 341kb.

I wonder if there is a conflict?

It may very well be a defective video card rather then a driver issue, do you have another PC to test the card in?
Since the card install was recent a call to Gigabyte support may also reveal if they are having any issues with the cards.

Sometimes it can also be a problem with the catalyst control center (CCC), CCC runs on .net so make sure you have .net up to date.> Download Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service pack 1 (Full Package) from Official Microsoft Download Center

Sometimes installing the video driver only without the CCC package will also solve the issue> ATI video cards - DRIVER ONLY installation procedure - Sysnative Forums

Dear readers,

Last Tuesday I believe I was on my laptop, and as very often happens my HDD was running at 100%. I've tried to find a solution for this multiple times, and I thought I'd try again. At some point I got a BSOD, which fixed itself afterwards. Don't remember what the error was. I then proceeded to update my drivers, through a program called 'Driver Booster'.

After this program installed a bunch of drivers, I got a BSOD with error code 'Thread stuck in device driver'. This BSOD was on loop, it would show itself during boot every time.

I went into the recovery options (F8 during boot), and tried literally every option I could: -Safe boot, uninstalled/reinstalled drivers, didnt work. System Image Recovery didnt work (I had a few but it wouldn't let me use them due to some error). -System Restore, didn't work. It 'restored' the pc, but the BSOD still occured. -Startup Repair wouldn't run. -'Go back to previous build'-> keep files, didn't work. I then went into Samsung Recovery through pressing F4 during boot. This let me revert the PC back to t... Read more

I went to the display area in my control center and changed the settings for my hardware acceleration to none. I don't know what else to do.
Would appreciate any help.

This let me revert the PC back to ... Read more

First if you have reinstalled it, uninstall "Driver Booster" you do not need it and more often then not these programs do more harm then good.

Any drivers you need can be found on the laptop manufacturers web site under support for your model, or through Windows update.

There is 1 readable dmp of the 3 in the upload.
It involves the display driver atikmdag.sys

HTML Code:
THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER_M (100000ea)
The device driver is spinning in an infinite loop, most likely waiting for
hardware to become idle. This usually indicates problem with the hardware
itself or with the device driver programming the hardware incorrectly.
It appears this is a dual GPU laptop ATI/Intel and may having a failing ATI video chip but from a single dmp I would definitely not condemn it yet.

Have you run Seatools For DOS to test the hard drive yet?

Hello, As written in subject, I am struggling with the blue screen error "Thread stuck in device driver".I tried to google the solution and this is what I have done so far:1. Completely deinstalled drivers in safemode, using display driver uninstaller and then automatically installed new ones through Windows Updater.2. Updated PC's BIOS using lenovo site's tool.3. Tried SFC scan. Recaived message: "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations". This happens usually, when I run applications, which requires more performance. I thought that maybe it happens, because of the higher temperature of the core I used to notice, but it doesn't make sense. The error occurs very randomly, because sometimes it shows up after using the app a few hours. On the other hand, for example today, it showed up four times in a row, a few minutes after using the app. In addition to that, I bought a cooler stand under my laptop, but it changed nothing. I am using Lenovo Z50-75 with AMD FX-7500 Radeon R7. Windows 10 64-bit.I would be very grateful for any help.

My computer is running windows 10 pro build 10586. I built it myself a few years ago and it used to run windows 8.1 but I upgraded when windows 10 came out. Every once in awhile my computer bluescreens and it says ERROR_THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER. After it does that my computer restarts and everything is back to normal. My headphones also make a buzzing noise when I get the error. What can i do to fix this for good?

Hi everybody!I got really strange error with operating system.I watched all over the internet of fixing the problem with BSOD "THREAD STUCK IN DEVICE DRIVER" and nothing helped. Some of the users recomend write to support or on forums of the device producer. That's why I'm here. Also I'm sorry for my english. I'll do my best) Everything on my device worked properly on Win 8. And even after upgrading it to Win 10 it works even better.BUT! After updating with Anniversary Update my Win 10,  everything goes bad.System start show me BSOD with the message "Thread stuck in device driver".It shows only in situation when I watching or leave on pause some online video in FULLSCREEN for a long time (45 min or longer) and when I'm trying to exit of fullscreen mode, OS stuck and in a few seconds I got BSOD. If I watching NOT in a fullscreen, just in frame on site - everything works fine. When I played games (Far Cry 4, Wolfenstein New Order, Heroes 3, Tomb Raider etc.) in different resolutions and ONLY in fullscreen - even then it works good and with no freeze. When I'm turn it in sleep mode and wake it up - it's all good. I tried to reinstall all video drivers including basic display device (using Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU)) - not helped.I reinstall the whole system - not helped.I update my BIOS to latest version and then reinstall all video drivers again - not helped. The last thing I'm not tried is format whole HDD and install Win 10 again. Any... Every so often (once every two or three weeks) it's quite random, normally when playing games. The game normally freezes and then the BSOD occurs.

I am quite good with computers on the basic side of things but all this BSOD solving seems quite complicated so I might get a bit confused sometimes .

Here is the log from the collector and I filled in the specs from the program to the best of my ability.

Hope you have enough info.

Thanks in advance

The crash was caused by your AMD display drivers, however I noticed you?re running version 10240.
I would suggest to install Windows 10586 and see if that resolves the crash

Hello I had a power outage a few weeks back and when I came back to the PC the bios was reset to default and once I got it setup I started getting Display Driver Stopped Responding and has recovered errors. I ended up doing a full system reinstall since it has been a while and I still get this error but I am also getting the BSOD. Any ideas? I have included a zip file with all logs. Thanks

A:Device Driver Stuck In Thread BSOD

Hello and welcome snipe mate I have never heard of a BIOS being chnaged to default by a power outage because it has it's own power supply - the CMOS battery so unless that was completely flat or broken by that outage then the BIOS settings would have stayed what they were.

In the msinfo32 file there isa problem device - the Ethernet connector is disabled but apart form it nothing sticks out as obvious. So do you know what the BIOS settings were before the outage if so why haven'y you reset them. The battery by the ay would be best renewed before you do that anyway.

Hi there,

I just got a BSOD. It has happened once which I know is probably not a big deal but I like to look into it to be sure it doesn't happen again. As the PC was shutting down with the BSOD, it did say something about thread stuck in device driver. So I googled that and it looked like a problem with my display driver. I've had problems with my display driver before and it's usually due to me always forgetting to make sure it's updated. So I used the auto detect utility provided by AMD to make sure I have the latest update for my graphics driver. I figured that I didn't have it updated so I used the utility just to be sure. To my surprise, it is still updated! There's no newer version or update that the utility is showing me. So I'm not sure what else could be going on.

Thanks.

I have a Z50-75 Signature Edition laptop from the Microsoft Store. I have upgraded it to 16gigs RAM and 1TB SSD both Crucial. I installed Windows 10 Pro and when I am playing World of Warcraft on this laptop intermittently it will get the thread stuck in device driver error. When I went to upgrade the hard drive to the SSD in the BIOS I had to change the SATA type to compatible for the drive to work. Things I have tried so far.1. Fully uninstalled the video device and driver software in device manager and add remove programs.2. Tried just installing the driver from Microsoft.3. Tried just installing from Lenovo.4. Tried the drivers from AMD. Each time doing a full uninstall of the device and software then rebooting. I guess my question is this a video driver issue or could it be another driver that is causing this issue. If it could be another driver then how can I find out what driver is causing the issue? Here is what my event viewer had on the error. The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck.  The bugcheck was: 0x000000ea (0xffff9d0adfa6f080, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000). A dump was saved in: C:\WINDOWS\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: de41580c-212b-4eba-8d0e-67f469f38e63. Any help would be appriciated. Thank you.
