ALL personal, browser and email account settings + all emails DISAPPEARED

Q: ALL personal, browser and email account settings + all emails DISAPPEARED

When I started up my computer this morning I found that the desktop + personal settings had gone. Then I quickly discovered that my browser settings, history, bookmarks, email account settings, and all emails, etc on both Netscape and IExplorer were also missing. MS Outlook had also vanished. The keyboard setting changed as well - some special characters are at different places (@ is at shft + # is at shft 3, etc)

I have McAfee installed but the firewall (only the firewall) was switched off for an hour yesterday. I have scanned the computer but McAfee hasn't found anything.

Is it possible I have a virus/spyware running regardless of McAfee???

Can you please help!!!!!!!!
Thanks in advance.

Preferred Solution: ALL personal, browser and email account settings + all emails DISAPPEARED

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I have a hotmail account, but I tried setting it up in MS Outlook. I can now recieve emails in Outlook, but I can't send anything, as it just stays in the Outbox.
What is more troubling is that my entire inbox has disappeared from my hotmail account. How can I get back my emails in my hotmail account?

A:Emails have disappeared from hotmail account

Don't know what happened with Outlook, but you should still be able to use web mail.

I accidently deleated/unpinned my email icon and serched how to retrieve it. Someone said to restart computer and it would reappear. That did not work, but when I restarted, everything seemed different. Screen turned pink, took a while to load, message was to wait. Previously, I kept getting a message pop up that this PC had an update...if I didn't want it, chick here. when I clicked, it wouldn't go away. It kept popping up. So when I restarted the computer, the screen was different, the fonts were different, and when I tried to sign into my email account, it came up with just 104 emails. I have over 10,000 emails and I don't know how to find them. Oh, and earlier in the day, I messaged a website I get employment from and asked them to downgrade my account. They responded with a message confirming my request, but the response email came through at least 50 times within the next few hours. I don't know if that has anything to do with it, but it's part of the strange stuff that went on yesterday. Help! I am probably the most computer ileterate person writing in.

I have a personal email address ([email protected], for example) which I would like to use for my Microsoft account. When I try to do this I get errors similar to:

"You can't use @stuff.me in your Microsoft account email address. Please try a different email address."

depending on which site I'm trying to do this on (xbox.com, microsoft.com, etc.). Normally I really wouldn't have a problem with Microsoft doing it's own thing, but if I'm supposed to use this account on my personal computer now (with Windows 8 just over the
horizon), why am I not allowed to use the email that I want to use?

The better question is, how do I get around this? I've noticed restrictions and questions are different depending on which Microsoft site you try to create your account on. Is there a way to make an account using my personal email? Or a way to make my personal
email the primary one after creating the account?

(Before anyone asks, I'm using a gmail account to post this.)

A friend of mine is having a problem that I am aware of because I am on the receiving end! He has an email account with AOL for years and I'm sure he doesn't want to lose it. Yesterday, I received four emails from his email address that he didn't sent.

Comparing who they went to, each group was a bit different but I was in all four.

What does he do now? He is worried about any compromise to his AOL account and when I checked with AOL they were quick to call it "spoofing." He's got a lot at stake so he needs to make the right decision with your help!

Thank you for your time!

Hi there,

Can anyone tell me if it's possible to received emails on two both different computers with the same email account? My sister and I have already set thisup on both our computer but the problem we are having is that if she is the first to get a new email, I don't receive it. Likewise, if I happen to be on my computer (with Outlook Express open) and I receive the email, she will never receive it.... We both want to receive all emails. Is this possible? Thanks!

A:Receiving emails on 2 computers (same email account)

Open Outlook Express, click Tools > Accounts > Properties > Advanced > Tick the box for leave a copy of the message on the server.

note: Depending on how much space you have with your email account, you may need to clean out the older messages once in a while so you dont hit any limits.

Hello, I hope you can assist me. The most dangerous thing is a mom who knows a little about computers, and then tries to fix things.
I have tried to fix my son's computer. His pc was running slowly and so I ran Spybot S& D. I was trying to update Spybot and could not. So I ran it anyways without updates. The program found over 200 entries of dialers, malware etc. I tried to delete them upon completion, but I could not as the system said that some Items were being used and I shoud try to delete upon restart. I did restart, but this was still unsuccessful.

Ultimately I installed the newest version of Spybot after fixing a registry entry with dial a fix. Thought that would help, but there are still over 130 malware left. There was an old version of Ewido 3.5 on his pc, so since that was out of date I deleted it along with quaratine and everything. He mostly uses Mozilla Firefox and all of browser settings and bookmarks are erased. Needless to say I have a very irate teenager. Hello, my name is OO7, and i'll try and help you.
So, he has lots of viruses and dialers, I'd recommend DrWeb/CureIt, you can find it on Google. But don't open it.
1. Boot into Safe Mode (F1 repeat at startup)
2. Open DrWeb.
3. Scan.
4. Post the log here, so another person may help you.
Quietman4 recommended that to me and it didnt find anything (haha) but i thought you can try it).

I have a client who has Outlook 2000 installed on their server (MS Server Standard). I'm in the process of adding email automation to an Access database using Outlook. While setting up Outlook (it had never been configured before), I used account settings for a Cox account. While testing, I discovered that I would not be able to use that account (failed to logon to the smtp server- the client doesn't have an account so it access denied to the mail server). From there, I deleted the Cox email account settings and added a gmail account instead. All settings have been configured- pop and smtp servers, authentication, etc., however when I attempt to send/receive, Outlook continues to use the Cox server settings??!?

Again, the Cox server settings do not exist in the current email account I have set up. I've tried to add and delete the gmail account several times, along with trying to reset Outlook to a first run setting, but alas, nothing has worked. Any ideas, or does Outlook use an ini file somewhere that may contain the old account settings? (I've looked at the account file under users, but those settings- for gmail- are correct.

Thanks for any suggestions

I am running Windows XP Home SP2 - Problem started June 9 10:44am...my personal yahoo email account sent out emails to all of my contacts in my Yahoo email account with links that were found to either contain a trojan horse or send anyone who clicked on the link to a site with a trojan horse. There was no subject in the email, simply a link. I was running Avast anti-virus at the time. I have since ran Avast, Norton, Eset Nod32, and the Windows Malicious software removal tool as well as both SuperAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes - all run in both regular and safe mode.

Avast found Java:Agent-AXI and sucessfully removed it...then after running Norton AV, a suspected virus was detected in sdfix.exe and sucessfully removed...then after running Superantispyware, i received trojan detections in C:\i386\compimpxml.dll and c:\windows\system32\compimpxml.dll both were sucessfully removed, then I ran the Windows Malicious Detection software and it found and removed Trojan JS:\Hiloti.E and JS:\Hiloti.F...

well, during all of this work, my damn PC somehow sent out 2 more spam emails (one Sunday Night at 8:26 and another just today at 4:22) to all of my contacts once again containing links infected with trojan horses! So since June 9, my PC has sent out 3 different trojan horse email to all of my yahoo account contacts...

as suggested by elfasso, below is the dds log for my pc (windows xp home sp2) - as stated in the topic description, i did have remote access issues that i believe have been resolved (changed yahoo password and all account access/notification info), but now am suspect of anything that may be associated with said invasion (virus, botted, ?) that still may be alive inside of my machine....

i scrubbed it out with as many antivirus and maleware programs as i could find free 30 day susbscritions for (norton, eset, avast, superantispyware, malewarebytes) as well as the most recent microsoft malicious removal tool...

this probably should not be considered as a top priority problem, but if one of you experts find a few minutes to go over the dds log and let me know if you think I'm still open to any potential threats, i'd really appreciate it...
be forewarned that i do use utorrent for music downloads as I'm sure that'll be a potential problem right off the bat...

thanks again and cheers!

I have an email account that has been deleted at the server. I want to keep all the emails both in and out that have accumulated over the past year or so preferably where they are now without exporting elsewhere. At the moment everytime I open Windows Live mail it tries to connect to this email account and I need to cancel the "Confirm password" to bypass the connection. How can I cancel the connection attempt?

A:Retain emails on a cancelled email account on Windows Live Mail

Mitchell mate I have gone over to Thunderbird - it can be configured just like WLM (GUI) and as long as you are keeping your accounts - mine for example are hotmail and the local provider bigpond - TB will import all the mails I used to have in WLM.

I may not be understanding exactly what you want but seeing WLM is being made redundant and I am NOT a fan of Outlook I am now with TB I thought I would try it and it works really very well.

I don't have Outlook configured on this machine, but I seem to recall that there is a way to export account settings and importing them again on Outlook on another machine.
Depending on what verison(s) of Outlook you're using, and what e-mail server you're trying to connect to, you may only need to have the correct userid and password and it might be easier just to create the account fresh.

Use Office Outlook on your desktop as your email app instead of windows 10 Mail-Outlook.com (formerly Hotmail) and select Office's Outlook as your default. The win 10 Mail app is for webmail and home user use. You might need it for your Microsoft webmail Account but use Office Outlook as your mail email program for POP mail. Office Outlook and Outlook.com are unrelated in spite of the recycled name.

This should be an easy problem to solve, but I have been unable to figure it out...

On the windows login screen, right below my login name, there is a little note that says how many new mail messages I have- This however was set up by my ex-boyfriend under his hotmail account. I'd like to change it to one of my accounts if possible, (I primarily use a university based webmail account), and if I can't change it to anything but hotmail or msn then I would like to remove it.

I haven't been able to figure out where to find this setting.

Any ideas or help would be most appreciated.

Hi - I am going insane here!

I have added a new email account on my isp website to our office Outlook 2003. All settings and passwords are correct - I can even view the darn new account via webmail so I am 100% sure this issue is with Outlook 2003...so..

I enter new email account (as per all the others we have) and the test settings fails as follows:

The Find outgoing server is In progress
I am prompted for a password that is not accepted even though I set the darn thing both online and in the dialogue box in outlook.

I am using win XP, Outlook 2003. We have three email aco****s already in place that work fine, no errors or password prompts.

I have removed the new account from my isp and re-entered, and tried multiple times entereing a new email account in outlook.
I even got the isp service to sed a reg file with my new email account settings in it to automatically enter the info into new account.
I have turned off firewall - same issue.

Is there something I need to delete - change inthe registry?
I have tried searchin the Forums but nothing pertinent and can't spend all day browsing - sorry!

Many Thanks for your time

Hi there,
I wondered if I could please ask for a little advice on the following:
Recently, while browsing online, I have noticed that my browser (IE) spontaneously closes.  A few seconds before this happens, the screen goes white and in the bottom left corner it says something like 'waiting for site: bluekai.com'.  I have googled 'blue kai' and I believe that this may be a virus.
Also, I have been experiencing problems with my email account (Yahoo Mail) for quite a number of months.  I posted on here a few months ago because my email account kept sending spam out to my contacts (these emails appeared to be from me, but I was NOT sending them).
A Bleeping Computer member very kindly talked me through what to do and this seemed to resolve the problem for a while, but the spam emails are being sent again (despite changing my password several times).
I am not sure if the browser issue and the issue with my email account are connected.  Any advice would be enormously appreciated.
Thank you

I removed a virus from XP and all my desktop settings were changed, when I opened firefox, my bookmarks were gone and my thunderbird mail account was also gone. Now I can't open firefox at all.

I'm not sure I remember exactly how I removed the virus, I was trying everything, but I was dinking around in the registry, and may have deleted one of the "has no value" settings.

I have tried system restore, several times, but the restoration is incomplete. I tried a system restore in safe mode - still incomplete.

Any suggestions?

A:I removed a virus and lost all settings, email and browser.

Well...your assumption that your system is not infected now...is questionable, IMO. (FWIW: I hardly ever believe members when they state that they have properly removed malware on their own...when the system still malperforms.)

a. If the system is infected, then the priority must be attempted removal of malware...via the Am I Infected forum.

b. If the system is truly clean...and you have a MS Windows CD...I would suggest a repair install effort.

c. If you don't have a MS Genuine XP CD...then your options are limited and determined by the manufacturer of your system. These options might include restore-to-factory default disk/partitions procedures determined by the manufacturer.

System manufacturer and model?

I was contacted by some friends last Sunday who said they received lots of wierd emails from my email account. The emails contained nothing but a link. I did not send any emails over the weekend so I don't know how this happened. This must be a virus, right? I noticed my antivirus (avast!) began (a few days back) blocking a couple of malwares when downloading emails to Outlook 2007 on my laptop. It identified a infection called "Win32-Malware-gen". It now does this everytime I try to download emails and I now have duplicate emails in my Inbox. My antivirus identified the infected emails having subject "DHL Express Delivery" or "FedEx Service Notification" and a document.zip attachment which I think contained document.exe if I'm reading the Avast! log correctly. I did not open any of these emails. The antivirus moved them to chest but it seems the problem wasn't resolved. I then get a microsoft message saying Outlook encountered a problem and cannot exit. It offers me an "End Now" button, but it seems to get into a loop and the whole scenario happens again whereby Outlook reloads and I get the malware messages again.

Another problem I noticed which might be connected is that in IE8, whenever I attempt to login to any site it blocks and reloads webpage with "This tab has been recovered - A problem with this website caused Internet Explorer to close and reopen tab" message. Then it asks me t... Read more

I've just returned home after being away for 2 weeks, and something has happened to my PC while I was away.
While booting up, it tried to perform a disk check but failed as it 'could not access' the main drive. So it dropped me straight into my usual user account loin page. After entering my password it took a very long time to load my profile, then ended up giving me a generic user account.
All of the files from my actual account are still under the 'Users' folder, but this account itself is empty. It has the right name, but this account's documents folder is just called Public.
About half the desktop icons and the entire contents of the recycle bin have been retained from the old account.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

I was having some trouble with a newly installed program failing to run. Their tech support had me create a new user account (start, control panel, user accounts, create new account). I did not realize that creating a new administrator user account by following their instructions would make the original Administrator user account inaccessible. I dug through folders and found my documents and made sure they were all on my expansion drive. Now, I want my account back. Otherwise, I have to set up my entire computer again. The thought of this makes me turn into a velociraptor who wants to destroy the tech support that told me to do this.

As of right now, I have not internet connection on my computer. I tried searching forums from my phone, but it was extremely difficult (not the best phone). If this topic already exists and I just could not find it, please accept my apologies for the duplicate and post a link. Thanks!

Here's a general description of my problem:

All of my pictures, music and documents have disappeared. So have my IE (latest version) favorites. Furthermore, all folders are still there but the files that should be inside are just gone or at least not showing up. I always have AVG running. I've run Windows Defender and it says that my computer has no problems. Housecall couldn't find anything. I have all of the Windows Updates installed (although they weren't before the problem started because I get sick of the constant Update popups.)

Here is the requested info:

No recent crashes. I had installed the HP printer package just days before the problem started. As I was uninstalling the individual programs from the HP suite because the web printing program took control of my system every time I tried viewing a web page, I heard the HD working overtime and was worried that it was deleting stuff and it looks like it was. This seems to be the most likely problem. I went back in and reinstalled the suite (minus web printing) but that didn't help.

if it's a virus that removed all of the files form the index they are stil thare so try not to save anythnig becouse you wont be able to recover them if they have an other file saved over them... maybe you should try something else as avg to scan for the viruses... or backup the files and reinstall the wondows

Hi, It may still be in the Deleted items folder; take a look in that and it may be restoreable if there.
You could have emptied the Deleted Items folder already, so it may not be there or even have been there, but usually all deleted emails go there, and I would think entire folder contents would too.
You can easily re-create a new personal folder in the AB, and manually reenter the items, too, if you have them in the AB....

Hi! I'll try to keep this as brief as possible, but it's really difficult to explain. One of my email buddies (fortunately he's an honest person) recently told me that any email I send him, from both my home and work computers, has a ton of garbled info attached to the end of the email... The info includes previous emails I've sent to other people, cell phone bill details, shopping details - ANY and EVERYTHING I do online is connected to my emails to him. It doesn't matter what email I use... My Outlook account at work, Gmail, Aol, RR... it all attaches info to EVERY email I send to him. Even the "Read Receipt" he receives when I click on one of his emails has info attached to it. !?!?!?!!! IT'S EXTREMELY DISTURBING! And he also receives info from my family members who use my computer at home, so it's not just MY info he's receiving.

I do know that he is on a "Whitelist" with the company he works for (for a very important reason), so he's not bound to the security that everyone else is protected by. He's had his computer restaged twice and it still keeps happening. He uses Outlook and it happens with his desktop AND his laptop at work.

I thought about talking to my IT Helpdesk at work, but haven't yet since this is happening from EVERY computer I use, so I know it's not a specific computer issue. Is there, perhaps, something that my friend has done, without my knowing, to gain access to my per... Read more

There is no email software installed on my computer.

There are links to two Outlook internet online accounts with their own passwords and email addresses.

I wish to copy (or is it import) all the folders containing emails from one Outlook online account to the other Outlook online account with the all the folders and emails being retained by the first account.

Can you suggest how this may be accomplished successfully ?

A:Copy emails/folders from online account to another account

You can't export from Outlook.com. However, what you can do is add a connected account. In essence, you can open Account A, connect it to Account B, and then specify creating a new folder in Account A to access Account B, with all the sub-folders you require. You can read more about it here.
