I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, my beloved x201 just broke. Now I am thinking of getting a new x-series notebook.  Is it possible (without a reinstall of Windows) to simply put the HDD from my x201 to lets say a x220?`Or a x301? I am reaaally trying to avoid a windows installation, because I have a perfect setup on this HDD which i do not want to reproduce (and unfortunately do not have backups) So, is this possible?

Well, it's not that difficult but you need to disassemble a lot of parts. This is fairly easy to do if you closely follow the instructions of Lenovo's Hardware Maintenance Manual, which you can download from here: click me!

Hi All, As the title states, my x201 (windows 7 professional upgraded to windows 10) encountered this error after I plugged in an old SD card via USB to look at some old pictures. My system froze up and now I cannot access anything. It gets to "Preparing Automatic Repair," then "Diagnosing your PC," After that I see the error on a blue screen.  I have tried accessing safemode before a bootup (F8), but that just leaves me with the "key is stuck" error.  Anyone have any suggestions? Thank you in advance.

Hi all, Several months ago I updated my old X201 to Windows 10 apparantly seamlessly. Recently however I've noticed the bluetooth driver seems to have disappeared. I've spent a while looking through the forums and haven't been able to figure it out. My Fn+F5 key does not bring up the wireless devices manager. I've installed the most recent Hotkey driver, and the other hotkeys (sleep, keyboard light, etc.) seem to work fine. I can't find the TpFnF5.exe file in the Lenovo\Hotkey directory. The EOL here (https://download.lenovo.com/eol/index.html) does not include drivers for Win10, and when I try to install the windows 7 driver it won't work The wifi works fine and the mechanical switch on the side of the machine is in the on position. Upon startup, the bluetooth light flashes, but once the machine boots it turns off. Basically, I think I need a windows 10 compatible bluetooth driver and/or a bios update. I've tried the windows 10 "troubleshoot compatibility" wizard on the broadcom driver with no luck. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi, I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X201 laptop with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit factory installed. Due to some major problems with the USB-drivers, I want to do a fresh Windows 7 installation, but in a different way. I've created a new partition on the harddrive, and I would like to install Windows on that new partition, so there are 2 Windows installations on 2 different partitions, and then transfer the data between the partitions, and install the programs over time, and then finally delete the old installation, when I've finished setting up the new installation with programs and data. My questions is now:1. Is it possible to do that, and how do I do it?2. I want to do a original Windows OEM installation, with the Lenovo drivers and all that, but what do I need to do that?3. Will the product key on the computer work on both installations at the same time, when they are on 2 different partitions, but on the same computer? Best regards:Aksel Christoffersen

Can anyone help with the following.  Have recently purchased Lenovo ThinkPad USB 3.0 Pro Dock Station (Type: 40A70045UK) so I can run two monitors.  I had previously Fujitsu port replicator supplied from work when running Windows 7 and all was good. Hey! I have a slight problem here. We have 5 machines that got shipped with Windows 7 32 bit versions for two weeks ago, I tested all of them to make sure nothing was defect or such things but everything was fine (The wireless network card was clearly visible in device manager). For two days ago, we recived recovery discs to upgrade these machines to 64 bit versions. After installing it on 2 computers that was previously 32 bit versions, I am not able to detect the wireless network card anymore.  I have used System Update to try and find it but to no avail. The card itself is not even detected by Device Manager (No unkown device or anything either, it have simply dissapeared). I do know the card is present there so I downloaded two different drivers (1 from Lenovo homepage and another one from a driver update tool) (13.1.1.1 and 13.2.0.30).I made a manual search and installed the drivers and the card itself by using "Add Legacy hardware" in device manager and picked the card. It is now detectable in Device Manager but with following error code:"The device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device (Code 31). I have tested both versions but same error code persists, System Update won't help either since it says that there are no new updates for this machine (same thing with Windows Update).  The card was functioning properly in 32 bit version but decided to crap out when upgradi... After update at Version 1511 of Windows 10 I run into problems: windows was freezing. At the beginning for not reason at all but afterwards I've noticed that it was freezing during this video autoplay in facebook for example.
Other symptoms were that youtube was not functioning, in any of the browsers. Best results were in Chrome but also there the sound was not functioning.

Googling it did not helped so I've tried somehow to solve it without a clean install (**bleep** Microsoft way...)
and I've found the solution: I've reinstalled the video driver. I've took the one for Windows 7 from lenovo support site, set in in compatibility mode and reinstall it.

This seems to solve the problem and I've wanted to share it with you.

I have upgraded my X201 Tablet to Windows 10 32bit. As far as I can tell, everything is working, including the WACOM drivers and touchscreen.  Wireless has worked perfectly so far, not sure about Bluetooth as I don't use it. My only issue is that the buttons on the display do not work. The power button located on the display does work. I tried installing the Tablet Button Driver II and it will go through the install but the buttons do not work.  This is the download link:http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds027627 The document claims Windows 10 compatability and was Last Updated :08 Jun 2015. On inspection, all the files extracted are dated from 2012 and when trying to manually run the software Windows throws up an error that the software is not supported on this PC.   I removed and reinstalled and noted that the driver information page when running the installer does NOT have Windows 10 listed as a supported system. My assumption is that the driver that they have linked on the download page is NOT the most current driver and is infact the driver for Windows 7 from 2012. Does anyone know how to contact Lenovo to get the correct driver posted to the page, or know of an alternate source to try and find it?

Hello,
I was trying to install windows XP home edition in my custom build desktop. Every time I tried to format my hard drive and install windows its coming back with not copying so many files from windows setup. Sometimes its copying the files when I pressed enter but sometimes I had to press esc to skip the file. I tried reformatting and every time it ended up in not copying some different files. These are the steps I have done so far
1) I replaced my optical drive with a brand new cd drive to make sure its reading the disc properly
2) I checked hard disk in BIOS hard drive test and its came back with no errors in it
3) I tried with 3 different windows installation disc to eliminate errors due to scratches on cd surface.

Could anybody please tell me what else I can do to complete my installation properly. Thanks in advance

Hi Guys,

I have a problem installing Windows Vista. The installation process works fine until after the 1st reboot that goes to "completing installation". It completely freezes at that point and after 1 hour or so goes to a black screen where i can see nothing but my mouse pointer.

I just got my laptop 2 days ago and it's brand new Vista compatible. In fact it came with Vista installed and it was working perfectly fine until I decided to reformat it so that I could check if my new hd i tried installing was the main reason for this installation failure.

I saw a post with similar problems explaining that the BIOS was in need to be updated, but my BIOS is up to date and vista compatible.

My laptop specs are as follows:

Integrated 10/100 Network Cardand Modem,

Can someone please help me out! Thanks.

Hello. I'm not sure if this is the correct forum for this topic but I think it is.

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop running Windows 7. Recently I made the decision to restore my system to "out-of-the-factory" settings using the Toshiba program that came with the computer to do this. This went well.

when this was done, the computer restarted, and after the normal start-up screen, it began installing windows.

About halfway through this process, my brother decided it would be funny to turn off the computer in the middle of the installation.

when I turned the computer back on, it went to the windows installation again, but very soon an error message came up saying

"the computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation."

However, after pressing OK, the computer restarts, but the same error message comes up, leaving me in a loop.

So is there anything I can do to fix this? Or does my brother owe me a new computer?

Btw I don't care about losing data, I have everythign backed-up on an external hard drive.

A:"Computer restarted unexpectedly....windows installation cannot proceed" installation loop.

I think you need to reformat C: (delete the partition) and (redo partition) using ntfs drive and restart the installation. Do you have a OS Windows Disk?

I am trying to install Windows 7 on my laptop. When I click on "upgrade" it takes me to a compatibility report that says "the computer started using the windows installation disc. Remove the installation disc and restart your computer so that windows starts normally." When I remove the disc and try to restart the computer, it takes me to a black screen with a bunch of computer gibberish on it and says "reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key". In other words, I am getting a message from windows 7 telling me to reboot my computer without the windows 7 disc, but the computer WILL NOT reboot without the disc. When I click on "custom (advanced)" instead of "upgrade", it takes me to a page that says "where do you want to install windows?" with a blank box and a message at the bottom that says "no drives were found. Click Load Driver to provide a mass storage driver for installation"
I have tried everything in my capacity as someone who sucks with computers and need help from someone who doesn't. Thanks for the help.

hi, i just purchased new RAMs for my X201 previously it had 2GB DDR3 1066Mhz PC3-8500 SO-DIMM Memory ( Samsung ) i purchased Kingston 2x 4GB DDR3 1333Mhz  PC3-10600 SO-DIMM Memory . i installed new RAMs but windows ( also ubuntu with dual-boot ) didnt start. i tried each rams also each slots. when i install both of the 2 rams together, OS doesnt boot, just freezes while booting ( for windows 7 it freezes when it says " windows is starting " , in ubuntu it cant boot, instead it restarts again and again ) when i try just one 4gb ram for 1 slot , it is giving Blue Screen Of Death error at boot screen ( in windows 7 when we see colored booting window flag it freezes for a second then blue screen )  after all of these , i uninstalled my old laptops 1066 mhz 2GB ram ( same with the previous ram of x201 ) and installed it into x201. it worked.  so slots dont have any problem.. it seems rams having issue. My X201 Type number is : 3626-FBG Kingston RAMs  details : on cover it written: KVR13S9S8/44GB PC3-10600 CL9 204-Pin SODIMM207767C2C20000006549306004 Any idea why is it happening?

Hi,one reason of issue might be the frequencies of new RAM sticks and CPU i5-520M in your laptop. That processor supports DDR3-800/1066 memory types only. Who knows how SPD feature on the stick regulates the work on lower frequency. Another reasons might be the RAM sticks CAS latency and timings. There is a chance the new memory is too fast for x201. Look at the such parameters of Samsung stick (in CPU-Z, for example).

Every morning when I first start my nb will enter into BSOD screen during start up, but once I restart it the system become very stable no matter how many time I restart or boot the system for rest of the day.

I have a Thinkpad X201  running Windows 10. It has an Intel Ultimate N 6300 AGN wireless adapter. My router is a Linknsys E1200. The router is "n" compatable, works great in n mode on my HP and my MAC Book. My Thinkpad will not connect in n mode. Windows say "can't connect". It connects fine in 802.11g mode just runs slowly only 22 mps.In properties for the N6300 I have 802.11n mode enabled. 802.11n channels set to auto. I have my wireless secuity set to WPA2/personal. WMM disabled.Has anyone else had this problem? Any help?

I have a X201 thinkpad that I am trying to update a bit.  I purchased a new samsung evo 860 500gb ssd drive.  I tried to put fresh install of win 10 onto it (boot from usb stick) but was getting media test failure errors and constant restart loop. I took the ssd out and put it into my even more ancient X61s and managed to load windows onto the drive with no problems.  The ssd runs fine in the X61s.  On the X201 I updated the bios to the latest version (1.40).  I tried to put the ssd into the computer but it just keeps loading the window symbol, saying preparing to repair and then it reboots.  What am I missing here?  I compared the bios settings on the 2 computers and they looked the same for most options? Thanks for any help Unrelated question, should I update bios of X61s?  What would be most recent version?

Hi, i just formatted my x201 to fresh install Win 7 Pro x64. factory default was 32 bit. i can not enable wireless adapter. i installed every driver related but it doesnt work. just  LAN ethernet cable enabled. i can connect to internet with ethernet cable only, not wireless. i installed Intel wireles LAN (11abgn, 11bgn, 11ac)  driver and Thinkpad 11bgn wireless LAN mini-PCI Express Adapter II it works when i restore factory default windows recovery disk but it doesnt work when i fresh install win 7 pro x64.  when i check device manager, it shows Other devices - Network Controller not installed or enabled. could you please tell me how can i fix this? i dont think it has a hardware problem because it works with 32 bit also i tried win 10 tech preview.  Thanks

Hello everyone, I bought myself a 9-Cell Battery off ebay for my X201. I got it for 50?, it said it was used but had 99% capacity remaining. It arrived today and looks very good, as good as new, but definetly feels geniune.Whats odd is that it doesn't have the production date sticker on it, it looks to have been peeled off. Also, in the lenovo Vantage software it reads a firmware version 0000-0000-0000-0000, and when I tried updating the battery firmware with the lenovo battery firmware update tool, i got an error saying, the attached battery could not be read. And whats the most interesting is that lenovo vantage reads a cycle count of 189, which is impossible because the full charge capacity is still 91Whh, which is very close to the original 94Wh and a battery with 189 charging cycles would be pretty much dead. Can someone, preferably a Lenovo Official, tell me if this battery is counterfeited or not? Is it maybe an original case but someone changed out the battery cells itself?I attached a photo of the label on the battery as well as the lenovo vantage battery readout. Hope someone can help me out here

Hello all, I am trying to get to the recovery disk in order to reformat the laptop.   When I restart my laptop I hit F11 and nothing.   I also have pressed the ThinkVantage button.  Aftewards a prompt comes up and when I select F11,  it will take me to the black screen, hit F1 and goes into Bios.  I do have both the recovery partititions but I cannot access them.    I am willing to buy the recovery discs if needed.  Thanks,Mario

Can anyone give a definitive answer as to whether or not the X201 has a top or top and bottom roll cage? The current tabook states:Compared to the X201, the X201s has ..., and roll cage in display cover. The tabook makes no mention of a roll cage for the X201, so together the implication is clear: the X201 has no roll cage. Except most of the reviews of the X201 (specifically not the X201s) claim it does have a roll cage (some say top and bottom).  And on Lenovo's website, it states here:Next-generation ThinkPad roll cage on X201, X201s, X301 and X200s Note the inclusion of the X201 in the list. So, which is it? Yes, or no? And top and bottom, or just top? Thanks!

the top case uses a magnesium alloy cover, there is no rollcage as such. The bottom uses a magnesium rollcage and casing.

Hi everyone, I'd like to order a X201 model online, but my situation is a bit complicated...I reside in Singapore and have a friend studying in a US university, is it possible to ask him to buy for me using my own Singapore Credit card?

A:X201 Education price

lenovo don't accept international credit card, maybe you should wire the money to his account instead.
