Q: Thinkpad E550 freezes after unplugging charger win...

Hi,First of all sorry for the bad english. It is not my native language. I upgraded my E550 to the new aniversery update from windows 10. And since a couple of days my computer freezes when I'm unplugging my chargerI have to press the power down button to restart it and to get it to work again. When I restart my Laptop the battery is not charging when I my charger is plugged in.Also when I do that it sometimes creates a BSOD with a message DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION And when all this is over it works fine again. I tried searching for driver updates but I don't find a new version of the charger driverAnd I didn't came across other people with the same issue. I also don't see the point in upgrading the BIOS since my laptop (like most) starts in UEFI Kind regards Brecht

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hello! I have been looking online for websites where I can get help for my laptop. I have a Toshiba Satellite L55-C5272. I broke the screen, and replaced it. Then I had one other issue, every time I remove the charger from the laptop, my laptop automatically shuts down. Even with 100% battery. I dont' know what the cause of this is, but I do know I was not messing with the battery. This laptop is about 2 months old, and I don't know what else to do.

If you have any advice or suggestions, you may email me at [email protected]

Thank you for your time,

Everytime I plug or unplug my charger from my notebook, the brightness keeps changing?!?!?  Its very irritating and I've tried everything to try to fix it including going to the advanced power settings and turning off the "enable adaptive brightness."  Nothing has worked, please advise.

I have an issue with my lenovo y50 (windows 8.1). There a really frickin annoying thing, I want my brightness to be 100% at all time but the stupid brightness dim down (or backlight?) a little when I unplug my charger. because of that Im always always always plugging my charger and in the same time killing my battery. Thank you really much to the not-smart guy who thought it was a good idea to automatically adjust brightness.I've tried many things but I got no results:-Making sure I was in the high performance profile and changed some settings    disabled adaptive brightness    made sure display brightness is at 100% when plugged and     on battery (same thing for dimmed diplay brightness)-Disabling intel power saving technology-Checked in the ugly metro w8 setting (pc and devices -> power and sleep > Brightness) for any auto brightness feature, but I have none. (https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Edge-Yoga-LaVie-Z-Flex/Yoga-2-Pro-Auto-brightness-feature-and-ho...-installed lenovo energy management software to see if it can change some setting related to that but no there nothingIm really starting to hate this laptop, there so many weird problems(slow hdd, low performance when lid is closed, low graphic card performance when unplugged and this)Any help is appreciated. Thanks

I was wondering if anyone is familiar with a method to enable sounds for when you plug in or remove a charger connected to your laptop. It is not a problem with my pc, but is an option that is not available for me which i would like to install to let me know if i accidentally unplugged the charger, particularly if I'm working on a full-screen feature. Any help would be appreciated.
I have Windows 7 home Premium 32-bit installed.

A:How to enable sound when plugging/unplugging charger for laptop.

In the System Sounds, there is an option for device connect or disconnect. This will probably do what you want. You will have to assign a sound for those functions.

The System Sounds panel can be accessed from Start/Control Panel/Hardware and Sounds. Click on "Change System Sounds".

When  I unplug the power cord/charger from the computer when it is running the laptop will BlueScreen and reboot, message when this happens is Kernal_Security_Check_Failure.  Battery is fully charged and showing 100%.  The charger is outputting 19.5V DC.  I also tried another Dell charger I have and the computer does the same thing, bluescreens and reboots??  Ran Dell diagnostics on internet support and everything passes.  Drivers are up to date and it indicates devices are working properly.
Anyone had this happen and how to fix it?

A:Dell 7559 shuts down (blue screen) immediately after unplugging charger

Does the system recognize the AC adapter, or does it show "unknown"?  F2 at powerup to check.
Will the system power up and stay running on battery only (no power adapter connected)?

Just noticed this whenever I plug or unplug the charger. The laptop lags for 1-2 seconds before returning to normal. This is noticeable when playing games or watching videos. Haven't seen any abnormal drops or spikes with the temperature of the CPU, GPU and HDD which would suggest a hardware issue. Tried doing this while running 3DBenchmark, and there is a huge drop in FPS, from 130-200fps down to almost 16fps esp. when unplugging the charger. Is this normal?

Back in summer I purchased a Thinkpad E550 from Lenovo spanish online shop, still today I don't have what I paid for. Before purchase, I tried confirming the availability of the TPM in the E550 models, after few calls, the only thing I was told is that if website says it has, it definetly has it. So I go on and purchase. On 07-09-2015 I receive confirmation for my purchase via email with all the details including TPM.Laptop was delivered with no TPM (not sure if any other component could be wrong, as I didn't investigate further). After several calls and effort, finally someone accepted that there was an error from Lenovo side and offered a replacement for another model, as E550 has no option of TPM or security chip (be careful when purchasing online using their configurator). They offered me a L540 model as replacement. I cannot consider this model because I don't like its touchpad configuration. I have been using thinkpad machines since IBM and its middle pointer mouse is one of the best features when accompanied by the button on top of touchpad. Anyway, the L540 model was worth around 300eur over the price that I paid for. I believe that that was their target of compensation and I went online and choose a model of the Yoga that was exactly 300 eur difference. They simply said no with no reason. They escalated the case and for my surprise, they accept a yoga as compensation, but they don't accept the configuration that I proposed, in stead they ... Read more

Hi, I have SEVERAL E550 Thinkpads and none of them will play dvds correctly. Some will play SOME dvds but not all. Some won't play any without using an external dvd drive. All have Windows 10 and pretty much the same software installed. They ALL say "DVD Copy Protect: Fail" What's going on? I'm NOT copying them or trying to copy them and they're NOT copied dvds I'm trying to play. (Although, incidentally, I did try ONE copied dvd on one of the machines that wouldn't play any original dvd and it played the copied dvd perfectly!) Is this a defect with the machines or is it a software issue? I think it's strange this comes to light on several machines all at the same time. Please help! Thanks.

ThinkPad E550 Type 20DF-004DUS. Thinkpad boots but sceen is black. Sometimes if USB drives or USB connections are removed, the sceen comes on. Sometimes, connecting another screen via VGA cable... the extenal screen comes on. But not always. Here lately, neither the laptop screen nor an external screen comes on. Took it into a shop and they replaced the motherboard... but that did not work so they put the old motherboard back in. They couldn't get either the laptop screen or an external screen to light up with with either motherboard. They tested the laptop screen out of the unit and it worked as expected.Sometimes I get a screen and sometimes I don't.What has me confused is exactly why these problems are happening. Could the cable between the laptop screen and the motherboard be bad? And, if so, could THAT cause the external moniter to be black as well?Have any of you experienced this?

I am using a Thinkpad E550 laptop with 3.0 Ultra Dock. Currently I have my 4K monitor hooked up with Displayport into the Ultra Dock and am only able to reach 4K resolution with 30 hz refresh rate. Unfortunately due to this, there is a lot of "choppyness" in the display, mouse movements, etc. Ideally i need the refresh rate to be at least 60 Hz. Is there a known possibility to get these settings with the current equipment? It seems DP is only capable of outputting 60 Hz refresh rate but the Laptop doesnt have a DP port. I can only get that through the dock. HDMI doesn't seem to do the trick either.

I left it plugged to charge it, but could not start it any more in battery mode. When plugged, my laptop works properly, except for the battery which is "plugged in, not charging".I have tried many tips suggested on forums, including removing the battery, starting with and without the battery, updating the whole Lenovo software suite. I could not install any new version of the Battery Manager, since none is available for the E550.Has anyone encountered this problem? Anything to suggest?Cheers,Ben

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad E550 running Windows 10 having been updated automatically from Windows 7 Pro 64-bit (initial and anniversary).  I cannot get Skype to use the integrated webcam. That is not the issue. Discussions of that said to make sure the video drivers were up-to-date. There have been no non-automatic updates of Lenovo software since its purchase in early 2015. I used Lenovo's utility to identify the system as 20DFCTO1WW. Just about everything looks out of date, so much so I wonder if I am looking at the drivers for the right system though it agrees with the solution center's showing of model and serial number. I am familiar with computers, byut I am not familiar with how Lenovo does things. Multiple questions: 1) The current drivers for the integrated camera are RealTek 6.2.9200.10282 (7/11/2014), but the Lenovo site shows version 6.5.717 (6/19/2016 for Liteon) and Version 10.0.10240.11135 (Bison/Chicony). Is this the same device.2) Is there a suggested sequence for applying multiple updates?3) The Lenovo page has an option "Let Lenovo update your system". Is this safe? Thanks

A:Thinkpad TP E550 How to install Win7 32-bit instea...

The only way would be to buy a 32-bit copy, reformat the hard drive and reinstall Windows from scratch. I am surprised that your 32-bit software will not run, since the 64-bit version of Windows was designed to run 32 and 64 bit software and, in fact, most Windows software is still 32-bit, since not many software manufacturers have have even re-written their software as 64-bit yet.       One the limitations of the 32-bit is that it can only see 4GB of memory (RAM) regardless of how much is installed, so if you are going to run Windows 10, you will probably find it a bit slow.   I have installed programs that were written for Windows 95 for people Windows 10 64-bit.   It requires a bit of tweaking to install and register the older .dll's etc, but it can be done.      What software are you running that cannot run on a 64-bit, and what errors are you getting when you try?   Are you trying to run a 16-bit software application perhaps, because in that case you would not be able to run it in a 64-bit OS environment, as 16-bit emulation was removed.     In that instance, running a virtual machine of a 32-bit version of Windows 7 on 64-bit Windows 10 pro using Microsoft's HyperV, VMWare Player or VirtualBox, would be the way to go.    Virtual machines are pretty cool, and are basically another copy of Windows, Linux or even DOS that runs in a Window of your 64-bit W... I have a ThinkPad E550 laptop connected to two Acer V246HL monitors via a ThinkPad OneLink Pro dock. One monitor is connected via DVI/HDMI to the dock and the other connected either via VGA or DVI/HDMI directly into the laptop.  When both are connected via DVI/HDMI only one monitor will be detected. When one is connected via VGA both monitors are detected, however the one connected via VGA will flicker or blink off and on. Disconnecting the ThinkPad dock solves this issue. I have tried the following:Uninstalled and reinstalled graphics driversUpdated dock firmwareRun updates on graphics driversChecked different cablesChecked different monitorsChecked different dockChecked different laptopRun Lenovo VGA fix The Lenovo VGA fix would not complete and ended up in error loop. After advice from the internet I unplugged the dock and tried again, but failed. I then unplugged everything but the VGA cable and tried again, but failed. I unplugged all peripherals and tried again, but still failed. Errors include "Invalid AUX device" and"Enable Aux2 Reg Failed".Finally I redownloaded the fix, unblocked everything before unzipping then ran as Administrator, however it all still failed. Any other advice? I can run off battery for a while but not for a full working day.

Hello, I have a Thinkpad e550 that I bought last year. Yesterday while typing my term paper I realized that some of the keys(s,k,d) were not working. Then i realized that the entire function keys row wasn't working either. Upon closer investigation I realized that this was because of the fn key always being depressed(not physically). So I went to the BIOS and swapped the control and the fn key. After a reboot I found that all my keys are working, but the fn key(which is now mapped to the ctrl key) isn't. Is there any fix to this? It seems weird that the function key is always depressed when mapped to fn but doesn't work at all when mapped to ctrl. It's been only a week since my warranty expired and I'm hoping to avoid replacing the hardware. Thanks

When I'm charging my Thinkpad E550 and I connect it to any external monitor with a VGA cable, the external monitor flickers constantly such that the external monitor cannot be used for any meaningful work. However, when I remove the charger, the constant flickering stops and the external monitor could be used though the screen still flickers/blinks for only about 4 seconds every 50 minutes or so. Disappointingly, using the laptop on battery all the time is not healthy for the laptop's battery but that's the choice I have if I need to use an external monitor. I have tried to use a 2-pronged adapter to plug the monitors into the mains but I still experience the flickering until I remove the charger. Does anyone have a solution? Thank you.

I have a Dell Vostro 1400 running Vista Home Basic and have had two periods in the laptop's existence where it would mysteriously freeze. You could see everything on the screen, and the power lights were on, but it would not respond except to a hard reboot by holding the power butting down for 5 seconds.

I am going through one of those periods now, and have discovered that the problem happens when I am either plugging or unplugging the AC power adapter, but don't know why. I have been all over the web for a solution, and while it does seem I am not alone with this problem, I have not read a sensible solution yet. My favorite bad answer is "don't unplug your laptop when it's on."

So, does anyone know what it could be? I wanted to look at system logs, and so went into the Event Viewer not even sure what to look for, but didn't see anything that looked like a likely culprit. Please help!

Thanks,
Neil

A:laptop freezes when plugging and unplugging AC power adapter

being a member of the Dell Community Forum, I looked there and found this

A lot things happen in Windows when inserting the AC power adapter.

To check if it's a classic CPU lock-up: repeatedly press capslock. If the capslock light doesn't change, there's no live in there.

Assuming the CPU is locked up: It's possible there's a log entry in the system log just before the AC power adapter is inserted. These entries give clues where to look, just before things went sour.

Next try to reproduce it in Safe Mode (press F8 when Windows start) If it's also in Safe Mode - try running an alternative OS (no need to install)

If the problem also shows up here - most likely it's a hardware issue.

Otherwise it's a windows issue - might be driver related.

the "alternate OS thing is a link on the forum web site. Click here to go to that site.

Hope this is some help... Raybro

Hi,I need a new charger for my thnkpad edge e145 but I'm a bit worried about the specs on the chargers that I have found. On my battery it says that the voltage is 10.8V and current is 5.8Ah but all the adapters I have found that are supposed to be compatible with my laptop have a voltage around 20V and current around 4.5A. For example this one: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-AJP-IBM-Lenovo-THINKPAD-EDGE-E145-20BCA00L-90W-Ac-Adapter-Charger... Since I don't know anything about how laptop batteries and chargers work I have no idea if a charger with those specs will work for my laptop. Most forums I have looked at seems to suggest that if the current is to low on the adapter it will overheat or not work at all and that to much voltage in the adapter could damage the laptop. Could someone tell me if a charger like this will be safe to use with my laptop? Unfortunately I don't have the charger that came with the laptop anymore so I can't compare it to the new ones. I also couldn't find any information on the adapter on lenovos website or in my hardware maintence manual.

In the course of using my 13 (Type 20GJ, 20GK) Laptop (ThinkPad), my external battery charger got damaged. Part of the male end that goes into the computer to charge it has somehow split in half; as a result of this, it no longer fits into my computer and my computer doesn't charge.  So my questions are as follows:1) Instead an AC Adapter model # ADLX45DLC2A, could I temporarily use a replacement AC charger model # ADLX90NCC2A that is rated at a slightly higher amperage? Would using it cause problems for my computer? 2) If not, how would I go about getting a replacement AC charger? Thanks for responding to this in advance.

Hello. I have a plan to buy a T460 during the upcoming Christmas sales. I also want to buy an extra battery with it. As a business person who has to travel a lot, i would love to keep both of my batteries fully charged all the times. External battery chargers are hard to find and i, after a lot of search, found one. An old Lenovo support document (https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht037009) shows a list of batteries that can be charged using that charger. But T460's Thinkpad 68+ 6 cell 72 Wh battery is not in that list. And, that doc says that i will need a 65W ac power adapter for charging. But T460 comes with 45W power adapter. So my questions are: 1) Can i charge T460's battery with the external charger? 2) Will 45W power adapter be enough or do i have to buy a 65W one? Thank you very much in advance for your time.

I have a Thinkpad T540 from work, and a private Ideapad 510. I'm looking for a wall charger solution that can be used for any of these laptops, which I could keep in my bag, regardless of which laptop I take with me. Both use 20V power. The Thinkpad charger produces 4.5A (90W), I think that power source should work fine with the Ideapad that requires just 3.25A (65W). Is there a solution to convert the Thinkpad's rectangular plug (slim tip) to the the very small power plug used by the Ideapad 510 (round, 4mm outer, 1.7mm inner) ? Alternatively, is there any universal charger available, which offers both plugs? Thanks,Kai

It won't even charge the battery, there seems to be an X symbol where the battery is? It doesn't seem like it detecting the battery at all. Anyone got an idea what it could be?

Hi!I have Samsung Galaxy S8. It have USB Type-C connector and charger which can deliver up to ~18W(?). I know from some sources that I can charge my phone via Laptop charger (it will step down voltages and amps accordingly). But I'm curious if it will work another way around. So if I can charge X1 Yoga 2 with Samsung Galaxy S8 charger?Best RegardsTomas.

My Dell Inspiron 17R 5720 doesn't recognize charger any more. And unfortunately my warranty expired 2 month ago.It was plugged in and working in the morning, but then in the afternoon I noticed that it was running on the battery only. It wont start without battery (just charger plugged in).
1. So here what I have done to debug. Me and my brother, we have purchased the same Dell laptops at the same time a year and a bit ago. This is why for a debugging purposes it was good.I took my charger and plugged in to his computer. And it works. Definitely not the charger issue I guess. And when I plug charger in to my computer, green light is still on the charger. And I have the original charger that came with the laptop.
2. Now, laptop works on the battery only, so this means that motherboard is working. I guess.
3. Next thing I did was unplugged charger and removed the battery from the laptop. Then I pushed and hold "Power" button for 45 seconds to discharge a flea charge. Plugged charger back in but laptop wont start.
4. Next I started laptop on the battery, went to BIOS and checked if the charger is recognized in the BIOS. No, it doesn't recognize charger. So, if it is not a charger then what else can it be?
5. Laptop doesn't have any strange smells so I'm not sure if anything happened with the motherboard, but I would assume mother board is ok because it works of the battery.
6. I was thinking updating the BIOS, but I can't, because it wont update whi... Read more

A:Dell Inspiron 17R 5720 doesn't work with charger. Charger is not recognized. Not charger problem.

Hi CJ777,
Thanks for reaching out with your query. You pretty much figured out all points of failure. Good job.
If the adapter is not detected in BIOS, it most likely is an issue with the mother board. In the BIOS set up, AC adapter should show up as 65w or 90w. If the adapter status is 'None' or 'Unknown Device Installed', it indicates that the mother board is not detecting the adapter for which the battery is not getting charged. Once the battery charge drains, I'm sure the adapter will not charge it again. Replacing the system board should resolve this issue.
