Preferred Solution: Missing options in Lenovo power manager

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi!I wanted to control the battery charging thresholds like I could in Windows 7 so I recently got the Lenovo Settings app. However, the only thing I can see in there beside the power tab is "Power Status", "More" which links to power options found by default in windows control panel, and "Battery Stretch". I have made sure my power management driver is up to date, as well as the app and both the dependency packages. Any ideas?

I went into my power options to change some of the advanced settings and most of them are missing? I am on windows 8.1 with a week old Surface Pro 3. I want to say I read somewhere that hyper-v can cause options to be missing, but I honestly don't even know what that is and I don't have it installed.

Hello Mossalot, and welcome to Eight Forums.

The power options you have available are determined by Windows for your specific system.

What specific options would you like to have back, and I'll post back with how to restore them?

For now, check the tutorials below to restore any you may want.

Hi all, and thanks for helping.

I have a Sony Vaio Laptop PCG-GRX570, using XP Home. Some time ago, for no reason I can fathom, my Power Options Applet stopped offering me the chance to change Power Schemes settings! When I open it, the Power Schemes window is blue and I can't type anything into it, and there are no settings available to choose. I can change the Alarms, Power Meter, Advanced, and Hibernate settings, but can't set any Power Schemes. As a result I can only run full power which as you can guess drains the battery fast. Any ideas to repair this? Can I reinstall the Power Options Applet easily?

On my old PC I had Realtek HD Audio to, but on my new one I'm missing some options and my front panel buttons are gone in the manager, it no longer asks me which device I have connected to any of the six jacks on the back of the board, and the two front jacks don't work.
I have tried to install v1.78, 1,65, 1.85, 2.09, 2,14, and I have remembered to clean out the old drivers first. It's vista x64 I have and it's a Realtek ALC888 on a Asrock board.
I hope you have some suggestions, and thanks in advance.

A:Win 7 Power Options or HP Power Manager ??

HP Factory Install is the worst possible install of Win7 one can have, larded with bloatware and duplicate utilities which interfere with better versions built into Win7. That's why most tech enthusiasts won't even run such an install but instead Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

Everything needed is in the blue link to get and keep a perfect install just like a million others have done without a single complaint.

If you'd rather first try to clean it up you can try these steps to Clean Up Factory Bloatware
but HP is the worst of all brands for its bloatware so if you ever want to experience native perfect Win7 performance on that machine I'd do the reinstall.

Hello everyone,

I've got a very minor problem regarding Task Manager in Windows 8. Under the 'Options' menu in the Menu Bar, I am missing an entry which allows you to Enable/Disable whether the Full Name (which you can give to User accounts via Computer Management > Local Users and Groups > Users) of User accounts is displayed next to their account name (which you give when you create a new User account). If you enable this, the full name of the User account is then displayed beside the Account name in the 'Users' Tab in Task Manager.

For example: You make a new User account called 'Johnny' but you give the account a full name as 'John Smith'. Under the 'Users' tab in Task Manager, the name 'Johnny' is displayed. If you enable showing the full name, it then says in Task Manager: 'Johnny (John Smith)'.

I believe the Option to enable/disable this in Task Manager is called 'Show Full Account Name' or something similar to that (I can't check as I don't have the option in my Task Manager anymore). It can usually be found underneath 'Show history for all processes' under Task Manager's 'Options' menu.

This is not the first time the entry has disappeared from Task Manager for me. I fresh installed Windows 8 yesterday on my new laptop to find after installing all Windows Updates and Drivers, moving on to configuring the OS to my preference, the option was not there. On my desktop however, after doing the exact same procedure for it, the option was there, so I had it enable... Read more

I recently (May 2018) purchased an X1 Carbon with seemingly great specs (16g ram, 512g ssd, i7 processor, highest screen option) but when in use it?s not living up to the expected high performance. I am running power hungry applications (Solidworks, various Adobe creator products, etc. ) but people with other computers that have similar specs are having great performance. A friend with a similar LGgram was having a similar issue and was able to go into the power options advanced power settings and change his minimum and maximum for CPU power which resolved the issue. When I went to do the same my menu was missing an abundance of the options, including the ones to change CPU power. Is there any workaround Lenovo?s control over this? I spent 2 hours on the phone with Lenovo but wouldn?t be able to get it resolved without spending $100+

To be honest, i'm not entirely sure how the problem began. Yesterday, I had just finished with my laptop at a local hotspot, so i put it into hibernate so that i could close it and drive home. Upon arriving at home, when i opened up my laptop and resumed windows, explorer.exe stopped working entirely. The entire computer froze. Couldn't ctrl+alt+delete or anything. After waiting about 15 minutes for it to respond, i had to kill it and do a hard reboot (never good, i know). Upon restarting, for the first 5-15 minutes, nothing responded. couldn't open task manager, couldn't do anything.

After a few attempts to restart and open anything, i finally got task manager to open. However, there was no text. In anything but the top menu bar (file, options, etc).
The tabs were all still there. The buttons were all still there, but the text was missing.
When i opened my internet options, the same held true. All the tabs and buttons were there, but had NO text. When i tried to go to system restore, the same thing waited for me. No text, but the buttons yet remained.

On top of this, I cannot open skype. I get the errors "The handle is invalid" and "The parameter is incorrect". I tried uninstalling and reinstalling. It made no difference.

The most perplexing part is that Mozilla Firefox still works just fine. All my options are still there in preferences. All of my games still work flawlessly. They have had no issues at all. Even iTunes still runs properly!

I was looking in my Device Manager the other day, when I noticed something odd: there were two devices related to Lenovo Power Management.   I looked at the properties of both of them and this is what I found:  The first one, "Lenovo PM Driver", is the one that shows up for download on the support page for the Lenovo T430 as it matches the version number. I have no idea what the second one "Lenovo Power Manager" is, at nothing with its version number appears on the website at all. Does anyone know what the second one is and if should it be there?

A:Lenovo PM Device vs. Lenovo Power Manager

I do not know if it SHOULD be there or not BUT I show the same 2 drivers with the same 2 version numbers on my X1Y3.  By the way Lenovo Power Manager was installed by windows 10 Update not through Lenovo Vantage for me.  Looking at windows drivers update on my laptop I traced it to the below link.

I recently got my lenovo g500. (recently like 5 days ago) and every so often the power options disappear. I can click the power but nothing shows up to shut down, restart, etc. Also during this time I can go to the start screen but cant click any of the apps, not even the desktop, but I can Alt tab to it if i already had it open. I also cannot search for anything (it will say 'this app cannot be searched') and if I put my laptop to sleep the next time I open it I still cannot do anything and the wallpaper is missing. However during this time i can use anything on my desktop with no problem.

Like I said I just got the laptop so I haven't downloaded anything or updated yet. Any idea as to what the problem might be?

I've been investigating an issue that my laptop has when going into sleep mode while connected to certain public networks and access points. After coming out of sleep when connected to these networks, all my network adapters will remain in an "off" state (media disconnected status in ipconfig /all), that takes forever to force it out of (I still don't have a clear remedy, it just seems to finally turn back on after multiple power cycles and airplane mode toggles). As best as I can tell, it's likely a PSP issue with the ac8625 wifi card as described here: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005645/network-and-i-o/wireless-networki...However, for some reason my X1 Carbon 6th Gen laptop doesn't have ANY of the common window10 power management options available... I don't have a power management tab in the adapter's properties page: I dont' have any wireless adapter power control options in the advanced power settings control panel: And I can't access any of the advanced settings in the Intel ProSet tool. Is this something Lenovo purposefully disabled?? I've never seen a computer set up to exclude all the important advanced power management features. I've gone into the messy lenovo advantage to turn off the weird airplane power saving feature, but I can't find any other way to re-enable power controls so I can adjust the PSP power settings for this adapter. Before I delve into my inquiry, I want to apologize if this has been discussed and figure out elsewhere already and, if so, would request being pointed in the proper direction..I have a Thinkpad T530 2359CTO. If you unaware, this comes with the Nvidia NVS 5400M non-integrated graphics card. I recently updated the Nvidia card's driver and noticed something...When Lenovo's Power Manager is run on Basic mode, within the Power Mode tab it has the "Intel Turbo Boost Technology" and a button to enable or disable it. It also would display two gauges (CPU usage in blue and GPU usage in green). When playing a computer game (for example Need for Speed), it would show that the GPU has been engaged and tapped and shows its usage through the gauge. For the CPU, it (apparently) does a bit of overclocking where the fan speed goes to MAX and performs at up to 117% (as seen on the gauge). After updating my Nvidia card's driver, I've noticed that the GPU gauge that used to display is not there anymore! Just black space where it used to be. I can see the CPU gauge still.I tried reinstalling the program, installing the power management driver (i'm not sure if it has anything to do with the Power Manager or not...), and of course, the Nvidia driver is up to date (because that's what started this whole thing). My main question is whether Lenovo knowlingly stopped support of this feature, plans on bringing it back, or is this a bug and I have some troubleshooting to do? I have a two week old Lenovo X1 Carbon 20A7 and from the beginning after simply got Windows7 initial setup with nothing else on, I noted that if I left it to go in sleep or Hibernate, when the lid was closed, upon opening it again, the notebook screen was black although the adaptive keyboard was active and the machine was pingable from the network. No matter what I did I could not get the unit to come back to life so I always had to press the power button until it power cycled to get it back. I noted that I was not alone out there and some reported the issue on earlier X1's Support suggested to send it back and were not helping much. They decided it is either hardware or configuration issue, and in both cases it required a return.  Because the issue was reported in the forums on earlier X1's I decided that it was probably software and I started by disabling all sleep modes only to find out it would still go to sleep. This is how I found out that if the sleep mode was disabled in Power Manager, it would automatically enable in Windows version of the power manager. Disable it in Windows and it would enable in Power manager... yeah - exactly; I had the same reaction.. Same thing with other power functions. So I de-installed Power Manager 6 and bingo, no more issues. But now I get non critical warnings  in Lenovo tools that I have no power manager software installed. Plus I don't get the extra features that are useful in PM6. ... Read more

I have a HP Pavilion dv6707us Entertainment Notebook PC. I was using Home Premium 32 bit Vista but I did a clean installation with Home Premium 64 Vista. I downloaded and installed all the drivers from HP’s site for 64 Vista. After clean installation I am facing the following problems.

1.     Realtek HD Audio Manager is missing from Device Manager.

2.     Advanced tab is missing from BIOS.

3.     CD/DVD drive is not reading media.

Ø   Installed the latest Realtek driver. Its showing in control panel. But not showing in device manager. When I checked in Device Manager sound, video and game controllers only conexant audio is there realtek is missing from there.

Ø   Now I am unable to use my external mic and internal mic volume is very low.

Ø  Looked into few forums there I found I need to enable my on board audio in BIOS but when I checked into my BIOS there is no ADVANCED TAB .

My system details are :-

Did you allow HP to scan for missing drivers?
If your BIOS is missing a routine HP section...I'd start thinking "CMOS/RTC battery".

I have an older Belkin F6C1500-TW-RK UPS and the mfg has not offered software management for the Win 7 64bit OS. I want to let Win 7 manage the battery and shutdown. I set the High Performance under Power Options to turn off display and put the computer to sleep after 3 minutes as a test. I yanked the input to the UPS and nothing happens and I went at least 5-6 minutes (didn't time). The battery icon in the sys tray stated 2 minutes remaining and never moved.

I have connected the UPS via USB and the Device and Printers, USB Input Device show the drivers are fine and the UPS is working.

Am I misunderstanding what Win 7 will do on its own without mfg monitoring software?

The attached are screen shots how I set the advanced settings

A:How to set Advanced options in Power Options (64 bit Ultimate)

Welcome to 7Forums!

With those options, you can set how much time windows will take an action after you are not taking any action
So if you set 3 minutes for turning off the screen or going to sleep and leave it alone it will scedule these action after 3 minutes.
I don't really understand the part where you explain that the timer stopps. I do not recommend setting the same values for both options under 'on battery' or 'plugged in' state.
I would just increase the 'on battery' / sleep time to 5 or 10 minutes and see if it works.

I have a computer where the DHCP service will not start due to a missing dependent service.  I did some digging and found that the NetBT.sys file was missing, as well as the related Registry keys and the NetBIOS over TCP/IP service in Device Manager.
I tried copying the NetBT.sys file over from a known good XP SP3 machine, but before I went any further, I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything.  Can someone offer some suggestions to fix this without having to reload XP?

A:NetBT.sys missing, registry entries missing, and NetBIOS over TCP/IP service missing from Device Manager

For what it is worth, I pulled the netbt.sys file from a known good machine and putting it into the %Windows%\system32\drivers folder, then imported the registry keys for NetBT from the same machine.  Rebooted the computer and the "NetBIOS over TCP
IP" driver showed up in Device manager under "Non Plug-and-Play Devices".  It showed that it was started, and verified that the DHCP client server was started as well.  Everything was in good working order at that point.  Here are the registry

"Description"="NetBios over Tcpip"

Hi guys, my new ThinkPad P71 is a few days old.The power button works fine to turn it on from scratch. But when I hit the power button to make it sleep, it doesn't respond to power option configuration for shutdown, sleep, hibernate etc.Am I missing something or is there a Lenovo configuration overriding it? (closing the lid does put it in sleep mode.)Setting attached. Appreciate the help. Thanks,Darren.

I manage a fleet of 200 linx 8 tablets all running win 10 home.

I need to issue a 'fix' that HIBERNATES the tablet rather than entering sleep when pressing the power button

I will need to do this programatically - bundled within an .exe that I'm building - so the solution would ideally be an import of a new reg key....

BUT what do I need to change and where?

I think whatever I do, I may also need to enable hibernation, and disable connected standby. Also, as it may sometimes be mains and sometimes battery powered, cover both power scenarios.

Apologies if I am repeating a previously asked question.

many thanks
