64-bit vista compatible microphone?

Q: 64-bit vista compatible microphone?

I just bought a logitech usb desktop microphone, took it home, and realized that it doesn't work with my vista 64 bit system. Do you guys know of any good / cheap ones that will work with my operating system? id like to keep the price around $20 and I would prefer a desktop one if possible. Thanks in advance for your help.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Any non-USB microphone will work, provided that your soundcard works in Vista and you have a free input jack..

So i've had this microphone from MAdcatz, its a 3-in-1 headset that i can use for PS2 xbox and my pc. It used to work fine for Xp but not for vista.....ok so i can get another one. So i did, my roomate gives me a VXI Parrott translator headset and whenever i try to use it i can do the speech recognition but the mic is EXTREMELY low. Ive set the settings to high and still no availability. Is there a problem with vista and the mic issues? Ive searched the net to no availability. Is it possible i can buy a microphone that will work better on vista or that is vista compatible? I dont shop online so one preferably at like best buy or circuit city would be great. Any suggestions?

A:Microphone in Vista

If you're going to a place like Bestbuy or Circuit City your best bet would be to get a mic with an inline soundcard such as the Plantronics DSP-500. As always hold on to the receipt.

I have an HP Pavilion laptop. I just downloaded Skype. At a seminar, I was given a headset and microphone to use with Skype. I just had a new motherboard put in my laptop and did not have sound on this one. So, I went out and purchased external speakers. I plugged in my headset/mic into my speaker and one into my computer. I can hear sound in my headset but cannot get my microphone to work. I have the mute turned off on the mic.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hey. Here is my scenario.

I'm buying a new computer, and it obviously comes with Vista. My current computer is running XP. When I get the new computer, I want to use my current XP hard drive on it. My question is, will I be able to save files onto the new Vista drive while running XP?

Thanks for any help in advance.

A:XP compatible with Vista?

Hey nnnever,

I have heard that running XP and Vista on the same computer can cause problems. One that I had when trying to do this is that when you boot to XP it deletes the system restore files.

And another thing. I don't think that you can just pull out the XP hard drive and put it in the new computer and expect it to work.

I have Vista and I use Microsoft Virtual Machine to run Windows XP inside Windows Vista.

You could just get rid of the problem altogether and swipe the drive that has Windows Vista on it and then just use XP.

I have a HP Laserjet 3015 Fax Scanner Printer. Ive lost my driver disk so I used the HP website printer driver. The driver works fine for printing but does not support the scanner or fax functions. HP said that these functions are not compatible with Vista. Is there a generic driver that I can use or can you suggest something that may help me not to need 2 printer hooked up to the computer?

The other printer is a canon PIXMA MP800 (I need this for the Scanning functions - MP Navigator)

A:Not Vista compatible

Most Photo editing programs can access scanners. Since HP's Twain driver does not work in Vista, it's still possible that Windows WIA driver 'might' work. (for scanning)
In Irfanview, you would go to 'File', 'Select Twain Source'. If a WIA driver shows up, select it. Next, click 'File', 'Acquire/Batch Scanning'.

Other Photo editing programs should be similar. I don't know if will work, but worth a try. If you don't have any editing programs, Irfanview can be downloaded here:http://www.irfanview.com/
It's small, fast, and free.

I have a laptop with Vista 32 and just bought another laptop with Vista 64.

Will both of the above OSs use the same software?

If a program is Vista compatible?..does that mean it will run on either of the above machines?

Must a program to run on Vista x64 state that it is Vista x64 compatible?

A:What does Vista Compatible Mean?

Hello cyclone3211, and welcome to the vista forums

Vista X64 will run most if not all 32Bit applications, As it will not run 16Bit applications you may have problems with some (Very) old games or with the 16 Bit installer used for some older applications.

If you purchase an application which states it is Vista Compatable you should have no problems installing and using it

I just bought a HP TouchSmart 64-bit computer, running Vista Home Premium 64.

My old computer had Windows XP and I have discovered that my Palm Tungsten E is not compatible with the 64-bit format, and it doesn't look like Palm is going to step up to the plate with new drivers.

Soooo..... I am shopping for a new PDA. I don't want a smartphone. Tried a couple, and didn't like them, and didn't need the internet access 'to go'. I use Microsoft Office 2007, so the PDA needs to be able to sync with Outlook 2007 (contacts and calendar), and download Word documents.

Can anyone recommend a PDA for me? I might need to go back a couple of generations (after paying for my new PC) and look at a used one, so please specify which models will work for me. I don't use the 'graffiti' method of data input, so a PDA with a QWERTY keyboard (provided it is small enough to put in my purse/tote) or stylus would work for me.

Thanks so much (in advance) for your help.

I know that you do not want a smart phone, but the pda market seems to be slowing down as the smart phone market keeps growing. I would go to some stores where they have working smartphone models and just play with them.

Im sorry songbird, Im confused. Is the mic working or not? If not you probably only needs a driver.

Can you go to start>search> type device manager> look for audio device. Is it listed there? does it have a yellow triangle on top? is there any "unknown devices" that have a yellow triangle on them?

I have a Dell Precision M6400 and I can't seem to make my mic work. I've also tried other microphones, but none of these would respond either. My current mic/headset is of this model Trust.com - ComfortFit Headset

I've checked that nothing is muted, I've adjusted the levels, tried installing new drivers. None of this has any effect. The bar by the mic that's meant to move when I speak only moves briefly when the mic is inserted and then goes dead no matter how loudly I speak into it. If I try using audio recording I get an error telling me it can't access the mic. When I try using adjusting it in skype the soundbar doesn't move either. Does anyone know how I can solve this?

Try opening Control Panel (under the start menu) and go to the "Sound" part of it.
Go to the "Recording" tab and right click the microphone you want to use and choose use as default device.

I purchased this laptop around Christmas. It came with Vista and all. Got a killer deal on it, $500 for 2 GB ram, and 150GB. Everything worked fine. I put World of Warcraft on here, amazing gameplay, used my mic for about everything in the game on Ventrilo. Then all of a sudden, one day I went to plug it in, got in vent, and boom, my laptop froze. So I repeated this a few times thinking somethin messed up, and I still dont know what happed. Its been doing this for about 3-4 months now.
**Edit**
I can plug in my headset part, and use the headphones just fine.

Greetings and salutations;

I too have/had issue with the microphone not working with Vista 32bit (sorry am a slummer, not good enough for x64, I guess). To help with my issue I have attached the system info of my machine via the program that one of your wonderful contributors made.

History, I bought my Acer 2.24gig machine with Vista Home Premium 32bit a year and a half ago.

When I brought it home, I transferred the headset (headset/mic combo) from my XP machine so I could continue my online gaming, except that the microphone did not work. Frustrated me and after doing some online research I found that my onborad sound didn't cut the mustard with Vista (hello, why issue a piece of internal equipment that won't work with the OS?). It didn't matter what I tried, I could not get the microphone to work, especially since Vista was insisting that the microphone be configured through the Speech Recognition setup, something I don't use. No matter what I tried I could still not get the sound bar to show any sign of movement as I repeated over and over again the "Peter dictates to his computer." blurb.

Eventually I read online that the onboard sound needed to be amplified, ie I needed to install a soundcard. On the sly I purchased a Creative Audigy SE and I had to jump through hoops to get the card to work because the Creative drivers blew chunks at the time, like apparently all drivers for Vista did. Eventually I was able to get a driver that worked. Sort of. The h... Read more

I'm a novice in Vista and I'm having a problem speaking through my microphone on skype. When I run a test call, there's a small icon that appears above the green phoneset icon near the bottom of the skype window that indicates my mic is muted. The sound in the test call is faint and garbled. I tried another program - Gizmo - and had the same problem. I tried three microphones with the same result. I also tried it with an external sound card and had the same result. I looked for a setting in skype and in the windows control panel, but I couldn't find a place where the microphone was muted and increasing the volume in the settings didn't do much.

I opened my other computer and used one of the microphones on skype and it worked.

Hey.

I'm new here and have come finally to my wits end!!! I have just bought an ADVENT 2MP webcam with built in microphone. It states it is plug and play (which it evidently is not).

When I am trying to run set up it will not find any recording device. Sound recorder does not work. I have been through the playback / recording dialog box and all drivers are up to date. On the recording dialog and in the properties for the mic there are no levels.

I can't call through skype as it returns the error "there's a problem with the microphone inside your computer. Use a USB headset for this call" yet when I take out the webcam I can call fine (but no-one can hear me obviously).

the webcam works fine as a cam. It's just the mic.

I am running on Vista. and I am at my wits end!!!! Please can anyone help???

I recently purchase a Labtech headset for play with World of Warcraft, and during the first day or two of ownership, the microphone worked fine and the world was a beautiful place with rainbows and gumdrops for all.

Then one day a "friend" ( meaning me ), plugged in the headset (not USB) to my Inspiron 1501 laptop, and when the little window popped up asking me what program to use with this, i simply clicked on "don't ask me again", (being inebriated and annoyed at the question) and since then, my headset only receives audio but won't acknowledge the existence of my microphone. When i go into the speech recognition settings to restore it, it won't let me get past the microphone test section where it asks you to say a phrase into the mic. The box to click next is greyed out as well.

If someone can please help me restore my mic so i can stop typing so much in Warcraft, i will vow never to use my comp after an evening of drinking again. I'm running Windows Vista Home Basic.

I've been working fine with Vista Home Premium with the two adapters shown in the attachment. But note that the second one is an integrated one, so you're probably not interested in that one.

Even though my gamble has paid off I don't recommend the Airlink101 unless you get it at a bargain price. Partly because it is USB but also because it is draft 1 'N.' I got lucky--it's working fine with my draft 2 'N' router, connecting consistently at a nominal 270 Mbps.

If you get 'N' make sure it is draft 2. Almost any 'G' adapter with a Vista driver should be fine.

Is Bleeping Computer software compatible with Vista x64?I am using Vista Ultimate x64 Build 6001 SP1.Intel? Core™2 CPU 6700 @ 2.66GHz 2.66 GHz Memory (RAM) 4.00 GB, 1 year oldThe behavior described below started suddenly a few days ago. Some of the symptoms are:When I click on System Restore I get (as expected) the dialog box ?Windows needs your permission to continue?
I click Continue. Apparently nothing happens.
I repeat the above and I get the message ?The System Restore wizard is already running.? However, it is not visible. I run System Restore during reboot. No visible effect.Task Manager also remains invisible. When I click on ?Turn Windows features on and off? the ?Windows Features? box is displayed with ?Please wait...? but nothing happens.Installing msi files and uninstalling do not work. E.g. when trying to uninstall a program, Windows Installer displays "Preparing to install..." and remains so forever. Click Cancel, after 10 min or so ?Install server is not responding?.Frequently Visual Studio and the Office 2007 programs go in No responding mode and I must reboot. When I shut down the computer "Logging off " is displayed until I use the hardware shut down button.Chkdsk, Windows Defender, MS Malicious Software Removal Tool, SOPHOS scan found nothing wrong.TREND scan found a ?Trojan?: the real Serv-U FTP Server, but that?s a known story.DSS displayed "Enumerating System Restore Points" but it remained so for more than 30 m... Hey, all. I'm starting to get machines on my bench - finally - that have one version of Vista or another installed. When I "clean-up" a machine, I use CCleaner, SuperAntiSpyware, Spybot S&D and AVG free. I set these up so they don't all load at startup but have to be lauched by the user.

Are these programs compatible with Vista? Or are there other apps that are - free first of all - and better to use with Vista? Thanks!

A:Solved: Vista compatible?

Found out that the current versions of each works fine with Vista. Does the fact that a user can't do a specific search for video files in Vista bother anyone else? I "clean-up" used machines for re-sale and, as you can imagine, there are often times various video files which are...inappropriate...to leave on the machine. I know I can search by file extension, but it was nice in XP that a user could search specifically for video files.

I have just helped a friend to install Vista (64 bit) on a new computer . She previously had windows XP Home. Everything is working fine except for the sound which, even though I have put it to maximum is practically inaudible. Is it possible that she needs new speakers? the ones she has look very elderly! I have checked that they are plugged in ok and enabled.

A:speakers/ Vista compatible?

The physical speakers has nothing to do with the upgrade to Vista just as switching gas has nothing to do with tires.

What might be happening is that the audio drivers need to be updated. You'll have to find the 64-bit audio drivers for her soundcard.

I've just recieved a new computer, and on setting it up I discover that my firewall of choice (Zonealarm) does not support Vista 64(Home Premium)

Does anyone know a good free firewall that works on 64-bit (im currently using the Windows Firewall)?

Thanks and Merry Christmas to you all!

Comodo Personal Firewall is one, Agnitum Outpost Firewall 2008 is another. I guess it's up to you to decide whether they're good or not.

Hi, I've been reading some answers for my question, but i still havent find the right one.
Basically, Im runing windows vista and I want to format and install XP. Many people say "backup the drivers or download the drivers from your computers manufacture" but my question is: Are those drivers gonna be compatible with XP? Can I be sure that the motherboard will accept working with XP (its a new computer and it cames with Vista installed)
I really appreciate if you can answer my question.

Thanks.

A:Webcam not compatible with Vista

Did you try to just plug in the webcam and let Vista find drivers for it? I am using a 7 year old Logitech with my Vista. None of the Logitec programs that came on the setup disc work, but the camera works fine.

Not sure how it works, but Vista is supposed to have a compatiblity setup for older programs. Maybe someone will come in with suggestions or howto's.

Hai hai forumworld

I've recently been considering to purchase an actual soundcard instead of the Realtek onboard chip I got. Currently its this 'High Definition Audio'. I used to work on a laptop with a similair soundcard in it, but that was on Windows XP SP2. Where it actually provided some fun things like a graphic equalizer. Nowadays I'm using a computer with Vista and sadly it's lacking that equalizer.

Recently I bought some very nice headphones so I was thinking to get a soundcard with it which would match the headphones in quality. So I've been looking around and noticed a lot of Creative X-Fi cards. I figured it'd be an idea to purchase the 'Xtreme Gamer' edition of it but it also appears many people got issues with the drivers from Creative for Vista? Read a lot of reviews from people who weren't satisfied with it.

I was hoping maybe these forums could help me out in advising before actually spending money. Things I'd like would be:

-Good quality Soundcard
-Compatible and functional drivers for Vista 64bit
-Not toooo pricy
-Additional software for a graphic equalizer or similair, perhaps bass enhancing/boosting options

My apologies if I'm asking for way too much ^^

A:Looking for a Vista compatible soundcard

Hi Igsaa, Welcome to the Forums

I'm running Realtek drivers on Vista x86 and it comes with Realtek Audio manager which gives all sorts of extras including equalisation not sure if this is available with the x64 driver (or codec) you may want to check you have the latest drivers before you buy a new card. also If you right click on the speaker icon in the notification area and click playback devices you may find extra options there. It may well be that x64 is not yet supported as well as x86 but may be worth a try

I'd say go into device manager and see if they are recognized.
Just type device manager into the start menu
