Facebook worm/ sequel issues sound and printer gone

Q: Facebook worm/ sequel issues sound and printer gone

Hello everyone

I need some help: After opening a facebook message from a friend I immediately lost my internet connection after downloading whatever was "required to view video"

after deleting some unknown programs in safe mode, and running avg scan my computer seemed as though it was back to normal, I actually left the scan running overnight but when I came back today (found 8 trojans and apparently removed it) and did the restart of my system as requested in the dialog box I've lost my sound and printer is not being seen

I've tried reconnecting the printer physically (and restarting the computer since the software for the printer seems to be there still) I've tried downloading the drivers (won't let me) and as far as the sound it says there is no audio device

error messages go anywhere from: Windows installer not being available, printer spooler not installed, no audio device etc, also unable to do a system restore as somehow it disabled itself so there are no restore points to go back to other than today, tried last known good configuration and everything is still the same

Help me please! This is a work computer cannot just delete contents and restart

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Yesterday I was browsing facebook and came upon a link. I clicked on it and it brought me upon a different site. Usually I would be more cautious, but I guess this time my mind was at ease. When it bought me upon a different site, it asked me to click the like button and share it. By sharing, it posted the same link as a post on my facebook wall. After sharing it brought me to what it was promoting, a funny letter/story. I've heard of facebook malware before, and became worried. I use my credit card on this computer often so I am worried. The computer also had this lag stop, where I would either click on firefox or the startup button and it would freeze. I am then unable to unfreeze it. This has happened twice, but the computer seems to be working fine now. I also searched the context of the post in facebook, and it appears there were 3 items. All the same, but three different links. They also had many "likes" but I am not sure if they were real or fake.

ok this is my moms computer and get a popup from avira when turn computer on that there is worm/koobface.aeh detected. i click onto deny access so far. this computer is windows vista. what should i do? thank you.

A:think have the facebook koobface worm.

We can establish if you have all of the koobface virus by, A. If your getting search redirects, B. You can see remote control of the computer, the remote controller is abusing it, and C. Your getting rouge anti-virus software installed. If so, then you have koobface. To stop this problem, do the following. Subscribe to this topic so when i reply, you don't have to keep checking up on the forum. Download MalwareBytes Anti-Malware on a CLEAN computer as koobface blocks access to known security websites. When downloaded, rename to zztoy.exe, and put it on a removable disk, e.g flash drive. Install the software and MAKE SURE YOU UPDATE THE SOFTWARE. Ok, then run a FULL SCAN, and then post us your log. I'll be waiting.

EDIT: The Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool will also be able to combat koobface as well. So give that a go.

New Facebook Clickjacking WormGraham blogged about a Facebook clickjacking worm back in May which we dubbed Likejacking ? for a number of weeks the threat ran rampant throughout Facebook. Since then, it has calmed down quite a bit and we don't see much likejacking anymore. However, today we came across a new form of clickjacking where, instead of tricking the user into liking something, it tricks them into using the Facebook ?Share? feature without requiring the user to acknowledge the fact that they're sharing it.forum.securitycadets.comCheersKarstenHansen

I have been infected with what I believe is the Facebook worm/google redirect virus.

I clicked on a a video caption from a friend. My internet then was disabled. I called tech support from my internet provider and the when I disabled my norton - the net worked again.

Now when I type something in google and click on the results it takes me to bogus pages like searchexplorer.

I removed norton (not very smart of me) and also uploaded spybot - did a scan - but it didn't remove this virus.

Would someone like Geek on Call be able to handle this issue, or can I receive some help here for a novice user.

Thanks in advance.

Koobface worm spreadingFacebook users need to be aware of this and other attempts to use clever social engineering related to Facebook to trick them into installing malware.http://blogs.pcmag.com/securitywatch/2009/...nt_preys_on.phpI just received a Facebook message from a friend; it was a pretty standard one that is beginning to look familiar to a lot of us I am sure....What surprised me though, was the page that the link led to. Received this one myself, probably because of Windows Live, which also stores info on other e-mail addresses that are not through Windows Live.

The internet probably only has 3 degrees of separation. All you need is one service provider in common, and it spreads to all the others.

"It is quite rare to analyze a malicious file written in the form of a cross-platform browser plugin. It is, however, even rarer to come across plugins created using cross-browser engines," said Kaspersky Lab malware expert Sergey Golovanov in a blog post on Monday.
The new piece of malware is called LilyJade and is being sold on underground forums for US$1,000. Its creator claims that it can infect browsers running on Linux or Mac systems and that since it doesn't have any executable files, no antivirus program is designed to look for it.

I clicked a link that was sent to my profile on Facebook, which asked to download a flash player. It began sending several popups to me and also caused my search engines to go haywire. For example, when I go to Google to search something, I type in my topic and the results come up. However, when I go to click one of the results it will bring my to a different site. For example, if I were to search the US Army Corps of Engineers, the first result will be the US Army Corps of Engineers, www.USACE.army.mil. When I click the entry to go to that site, though, google will retrieve a completely different website (http://www.strikingoffers.com/search44.php?clickid=9ADA365B-2D13-4A9C-853C-6CB1920291E5&keyword=army+corps+of+engineers). Which will just be advertising thing like careers in the Army Corps, or obvious popup offers. I've also noticed that my Windows security balloon keeps showing up on the corner say that my computer is at risk because my firewall is turned off, even though I go to Windows Firewall to make sure it is turned on anyways. This virus also causes the computer to run slowly. Any help anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.

A:ATI Driver BSOD???....The Sequel, please help!

I can narrow it down to three possibilties.
.net framework
ati driver installation failure
directx problems.

This would actually be easier for me to troubleshoot if you DID have CCC as if it was failing to launch properly I recently developed a workaround to the ati problem that causes that.

I've reported this problem before, but here is a more specific description.

THE HISTORY

I get two different modes of operation upon booting that occur intermittantly. The first is where everthing operates normally. For the second, however, I get the following symptoms:

1. None of my 3 browsers will load.

2. Snagit8 will not load.

3. Task Manager indicates that the browers and Snagit are running, but fails to perform when "End Process" is clicked.

4. As far as I can tell, all other programs load and run normally, at least the many that I tested did.

5. Computer will not do a normal shut-down. It hangs. I would get some "Program Not

Responding" messages. I can only shut down manually by pressing the "Start" button on the tower for 4 seconds.

6. I would get an occasional message during boot that indicates SpySweeper has been
damaged and to reinstall.

7. Upon reboot, I'm usually back to normal operation. SpySweeper loads and runs OK.

Here's what I have done to date:

1. Reloaded XP. I booted to the installation CD because Autorun wasn't working either.

2. I reseated all internal cables, memory cards, and the 3 slotted cards: 3D video card, an extra USB controller card, and a 56K modem/fax card. After I did this, operation was normal for over a week.

3. I thought that the problem may be thermally related because the abnormal operation seemed to occur after the first boot of the day. However, yesterday morning the boo... Read more

I have a 5 yr old Pavilion dv7 with Vista Home Premium 64 bits impeccably performing from the start until three weeks ago...when it just collapsed after a series of events. This is what happened in chronological order(and I am not sure if these events have cause-effect relevance):

First, I replaced my badly damaged keyboard. Shortly after, I opened an e-mail attachment that turned out to be trojan infected. I acquired two viruses from it which I thought I was able to remove. But the laptop started acting up...crushings and BSOD's and probs with cold boot , then probs with re-starting and finally no boot. I was forced to System Recovery installation...several times, using both recovery set(2 DVD's) from HP and my own created 3-DVD's set. I was able to install factory image each time only to crush and BSOD's within minutes. The last dump message mentioned something about damaged graphic card... which was confirmed by a repairman(who did not know about what I thought I saw in the last BSOD's reference to damaged Graphic card).

So the last time I factory image installed, I quickly went to Device Manager before anything else and activated the Standard VGA adapter. This stopped the crushing and BSOD's and improved somewhat the booting process (although not quite fully. I still have to boot several times before stumbling on a successful try).

Now, except for inability to play Media Center, QuickPlay and 3-D games and not-so-automatic successful boots, my laptop looks and behaves ... Read more

Hey Guys,

My PC is Blue screening every time I try and launch borderlands the pre sequel.

I've tested everything I can think of and swapped out the graphics cards.

I've just reformatted this pc with a clean install of windows 7

I've load tested the CPU and GPU and well as temp monitored both

CPU - Max 38 degrees
GPU - Max 42 Degrees

I haven't overclocked at all - everything from Bios to chips is running as standard

This is doing my head in and I've spent 3 days trying to trouble shoot everything.

I'd appreciate any help you can offer.

Thanks - Mattyg

A:BSOD Error 101 - Launching Borderlands Pre sequel

The zip file doesn't contain any BSOD .dmp files .

Follow this to ensure Windows 7 is configured to create .dmp files - choose OPTION 6 Minidump

Dump Files - Configure Windows to Create on BSOD

Now update Windows 7 completely. If you get a BSOD after updating post the new ZIP file.

Now if I refresh or even restart, nothing happens!

Should I report it to FB team or its only the browser problem. Any help will be appreciated.

Hi guys. How do I remove the left column "Like"-bar?

I've even unliked the sites that are out there but they are still featured out there. Does anyone knows how to do? I've tried to browse the "Edit" section without luck, I know it's possible since one of my friends've removed his.

I've attached an URL with an image which shows what I mean. :-) Thanks!

Hi guys,
Hope you can help me here because i am stuck!!
I have vista 32 home premium , IE7.
I have manged to fix any problems i have encountered with vista except one.
I cannot view my facebook home page. At first i got an error message saying IE7 has encountered a problem and needs to close, but i don't even get that now, IE just shuts down.
My partner can view her facebook homepage and i can view other pages fine on facebook, like my messages, events and other peoples homepages, but my own page will not load.
It is not windows firewall or defender as have disabled those temporarily to test it. I have disabled all add ons to test and it still happens.
Again IE7 works fine on all areas, except my Facebook homepage.
Please help

I cannot get this resolved anywhere and Facebook Help is a complete joke, when you send a ticket you don't get an answer...I cannot get my timeline to load. Sometimes I will be scrolling away and see 20+ posts then all the sudden it goes to a blank post and no further. So I refresh and then I might see 2-5 and it keeps doing it. I have cleared cache, temp files, my Chrome is up to date, I am beyond frustrated!!

Does it only happen in Chrome, or does it happen in other browsers?

Have you tried Incognito mode?

I've been having issues with Facebook. Have been unable to locate the 'Recent Posts By Others' button on any of the community pages where I post. It only shows the 'Post on Timeline' area of said pages. Which is all well & good, however, the only posts that show are the ones posted by those who manage the pages. I am unable to see anything I post unless I access my content through the links in my Activity Log. Wondering if anyone else has been experiencing this problem, & if there's a way to remedy the situation. I can't find any info in the Facebook Help content, so I'm hoping someone may have a suggestion here. Any & all help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Even though it appears you're having the same problem, please start a new thread when you have a new issue. It's very difficult to keep two problems straight and who's working on what in a single thread.

I've created a new thread for your issue here.

Note: You will need to post complete details of your configuration and your specific issue in this new thread for us to help you.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Hello everyone, I am new here and am having difficulty finding where to direct my question. I am hopping that someone here will be able to help me with this issue I am having with Facebook or atleast direct me to the correct forum

I can log into my Facebook page without any type of issue. My email address and password are still active, however, logging in is the ONLY thing that I am able to do. I am unable to accept new friends, add or delete applications, reply to messages, etc., etc. I have tried emailing Facebook directly but there site is not set up well for directing issues to someone at Facebook for Tech support. I am wondering if anyone here has run into this same issue and would know what is causing me to get 'page errors'/unable to make changes to my Facebook site. I have been working on this issue for a couple days now to no avail and am at the point of deleting the account all together and re-creating one..however, since I cannot make any changes at all to my Facebook site, I doubt I will be able to even do that !

Any advice, tips and/or tricks are appreciated,

TIA, Realitybytes

I have been using waterfox actually but, it is essentially firefox.
Yesterday morning everything was working normally...  I went out bird watching with my oldest daughter... when I came back(my computer stays signed off, nobody messed with it) I was having trouble with facebook.  All the pages were having trouble loading.  Some I'd have to refresh over and over and they'd just sit there.  I was able to do some things but it took a long time.  VERY VERY laggy...  Like, I was ready to pull my hair out.
It was only facebook... no other sites were giving me trouble.
Today I tried IE and just navigated all the pages I could while not logged in.  NO problems.  Pages loaded normally.  So I went to firefox instead of waterfox and, still the same issue.
I started to go through some of my addons, disabling them.(shouldn't really have to for ONE website).  I don't know what happened, what changed yesterday that would cause this but, with firefox and waterfox, facebook is still not loading properly for me.
I wonder if I can view info on any addon updates or anything else that may have occurred when I went back online yesterday afternoon.  I mean, something, somewhere had to change right?
I am not going to use IE...  and for those ready to suggest it, I will not use Chrome either.
I'm scratching my head wondering what happened.....   I don't understand how all these other sites are working just fine and fac... Read more

May know the culprit... or at least, can narrow it down for anyone that might have thoughts... anyone?
So, I'll restate......
Facebook wont load half the time and when it does, it hangs and doesn't load completely...
This happens for firefox and waterfox, but didn't seem to happen in IE...
Checked this afternoon and this was on my computer as well as a laptop in the house...
Well, that laptop is with my wife in another town right now and, while I'm still having the facebook issues, she is not.
So...  Just firefox browsers, just this house, just facebook......... ODD...
What I'm about to explain and suggest wouldn't make sense to me unless it was IE as well.......  but, here it goes...
Not too long ago, I switched the DNS that my router was using.  I had been having intermittent trouble with ONE particular facebook game.  It was decided that my ISPs DNS was causing the problem with the servers for that facebook game.  I switched the DNS settings to use Comodo's...  (someone suggested google's but, I do NOT trust google... ha)
Anyway... switching the DNS to comodo's settings fixed the game errors immediately and I've had no issues with it since...  (well, except for when I try to visit a local news station, comodo's dns thing would say that news site was linked to yadda yadda yadda, and I had to make temporary exceptions... )
Anyway.....
Could this be a DNS issue?  I mean, Both computers had the issue here but now that o... Read more

My issue is this I am having issues loading Facebook, going on 2 days and it is very annoying. I only see My name, under that newsfeed, messages and events.

No this is not on my end I have dsl and the site is not down, Get a blank page, with what I posted I see, I even went from secure browsing and that didn't help. I have cleared cashe, flash cashe and Java and still has this issue. Also no malware or viruses. What can cause this. Also to note it is slow to load yet other sites are fine.

Please help!

Try to use a different web browser other than your usual one and post the result. The intention is to find out if it's just a problem with one particular web browser, which will obviously help in tracing the cause.

Hi all,

For some reason, my browser (Chrome) cannot access the facebook website. I've tried using other browsers but am still unable to use facebook. However, I am able to access every other website except for facebook. I've tried using a proxy to access the website and I was able to do it but when I switch the proxy off, I'm back to square one.

I've tried going to the website on another PC with the same WiFi network and it works. I believe the problem lies with my computer itself. Is there any way to solve this problem?

I'm using a HP Pavilion dm3 Notebook PC that runs on Windows 7.

Thanks and regards

Facebook apps have never performed very well in Windows Phone 8.0 or in Metro (either 8.0 or 8.1).

The latest hiccup has been if someone posts one image that appears on my timeline, it puts 3 different copies of the image all bunched together (as if the poster had posted the same image 3 times). Happens all the time.
