Dell Inspiron WiFi broke after windows 8 upgrade

Q: Dell Inspiron WiFi broke after windows 8 upgrade

My computer is a dell inspiron 14z.

So my wifi was working ok before I upgraded to Windows 8 but afterwards seemed to not even realize it had wifi capabilities. I looked at the Wireless network adapter thing in the device manager and it had a little error icon next to it.

Here's some pictures of the error and device manager that might help maybe.

I've tried updating the driver but it just says that its all good and up to date.

Dell wanted me to pay 120$ for a single customer service session.

I'd be so happy if you guys could fix this.

you guys are awesome thanks

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

120$? to fix a driver issue? That is extortion in my eyes lol.

Anyway I had a quick look on the dell support site and found there are 3 different models for Dell Inspiron 14z Could you tell me which one it is? Also try navigating to the driver downloads page and downloading the wireless network drivers for your model and installing them. Pic Attached

Had a look at the drivers on each of the models and they only seem to support 64bit Versions of Windows 7 & 8, Do you know if you have 32bit or 64bit edition of windows 8? If you have 32bit then the drivers for the hardware probably wont work.

If you don't you can check it by following this easy guide (I would walk you through it but I havent used windows 8 yet) http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows-8/a/windows-8-64-bit-32-bit.htm

Hi guys, I have a dell inspiron 15 3542. Im planning on upgrading the wifi card to some third party card. My question is, is the wifi card binded or proprietary to the system? Is there really anything preventing me from using a third party adapter, provided it is the right form factor and is the same slot?

I have recently upgraded to windows 10 and everything seems file except one problem I am facing which is the wifi card connectivity issues. My connection to router drops very frequently, curently the generic driver which windows think is appropriate is installed. I wanted to undate that with Dell's driver which I can't find on driver download section. 64 bit WiFi driver is NOT there. 32 Bit driver is but that won't install on my machine.
Can someone from Dell help? either to give me the link for correct driver download or confirm driver is not available in which case I would need to downgrade to windwos 8 as the system is unusable in its current state.

A:Dell Inspiron 15R 7520 SE - Windows 10 64 Bit WiFi Driver not available on Dell Site

On the Drivers & Download pages for the Inspiron 15R 7520 there are only 64-bit options for Windows, whether 8.0,8.1, or 10.   So those drivers are the ones for the 64-bit version of Windows 10, as long as you filter the operating system option to Windows 10 64-bit.
The file name may state "Win32" but if you click on the "View Details" link, and then check "Supported Operating Systems" near the bottom of the page you'll find that the driver supports both 32-bit and 64-bit versions.
You don't mention which wireless card you have in that system so I can't link directly to the specific driver.  Which card do you have and what error are you getting when trying to install the drvier?
I would also recommend updating the firmware on your router.  Many routers need an update to be able to handle Windows 10 specific drivers and cards reliably.   What router brand and model are you connecting to?  And do you have problems with all routers or just this one.
Lastly, here is a link to the Dell Networking & Wireless Support Center.  You will find a few support articles in there that may be of help to you.
Let me know which card you have and when the last time you updated your router and, if you can't get the connection to work, I'll see what else I can suggest to help you.

You'd need to sell the system and buy the new one.  The "extra bit" of money will likely be more than a bit, as used computers will sell for 30-50% of what they did new -- warranty or not.

Hi all.
I posted on the Windows 7 forums a short while ago: absolutely great feedback there - helped me create a Windows 7 and 10 ISO for some old computers we have.
We now have three PC's working: 1 new tower (windows 10) and two old DELL laptops, both of which where on their last legs!
One of them (this Dell Inspiron 5030N) was my daughters old one from several years ago. I was very close to sending it to recycling as it was barely responsive towards the end. However, my younger boy has started to 'play' on computers and I thought it might be a good idea to see if I could somehow make it just about usable.
To cut a long story short, I created a Windows 10 ISO and completely refreshed the machine. Suprisingly it works rather well (btw - I had to reflash the BIOS to A02 - similar to the other DELL I 'brought back to life').
The only issue is the internal wifi adapter: this runs quite slow - same with the other DELL laptop. I purchased a TP link TL WN823N and that works a treat (we use another one for the new PC tower). Yesterday I tried it in this DELL 5030 machine and again, worked a treat (from 65mps to the 144mps speeds the other machines have).
Youtube videos stall at this speed on this machine, hence me wanting to bump the speed up.
The internal wifi is named as Qualcomm.

However, since that first attempt, the laptop lost the recognition of it and it simply will not reconnect to the laptop.
I've installed (and reinstalled etc) the TP link official drivers (from bot... Read more

A:Windows 10 Dell Inspiron 5030N not recognizing TP LINK WN823N USB wifi

Since inserting the USB TPlink dongle this morning (and deleting the old TP link and realtek drivers) this has now appeared in Device manager: earlier it just listed two entries, both for Qualcomm.

Last week I purchased a new desktop from Dell.com. The desktop comes with Windows 7 Pro 64-bit pre-installed and also came with a free copy of Windows 10 Pro 64-bit. Windows 10 came with the desktop in the form of a DVD that I have picutred here: http://i.imgur.com/Z3N84IS.jpg

The disc ran and I attempted to select the option to install Windows 10 and keep my files that are on the drive. It attempted to install but then stopped because there was a "partition missing". Hi Thanks for reply. My friends Inspiron 1545 came pre-loaded with Vista Home Premium 32 bit. He bought the activation key from Sofoway in Banbury. They sent a link to Microsoft to download Windows 7 Pro 64 bit., which I did for him, as he’s not computer literate. I clean installed Windows7 Pro and then did the free upgrade to Windows10 Pro 64 bit. His computer was running fine. He came to pick it up from my place. I showed him it running Windows 10 and he was happy. Then about ten days later he called me and told me that he’s installed his mcAfee unlimited Internet Security, which he’d purchased from PcWorld. He got the activation key card, went home and went on McAfee, downloaded the software and so he tells me, after it activated, he got a message from McAfee telling him all his drivers were either out of date or weren’t installed. He called them and they passed him to some company on the phone that he doesn’t remember the name of and they offered to update and install any missing drivers for 80 pounds sterling and they requested him to activate Remote Assistant, which he did so they could take over his laptop and configure the drivers and missing drivers. He gave them his, either Debit card, or Credit card details and they took the 80 pounds from his bank account. He tells me that his laptop is running fine now, but it was running fine when I did the Windows 7 installation and the Windows 10 free upgrade, so I don’t understand why his l... Read more

Any chance the 32 bit vs 64 bit was involved when McAfee was installed?  Maybe McAfee was for Windows 7 and not 10.
I have a 1545 which seems to run Win 10 fine, although I had previously replaced the Wi-Fi/Bluetooth card.
Have your friend check the Event Viewer and go through the logs.  Something may be there which would help lead to solving some problem.  Keeping track of what time something happens would help in finding entries in Event Viewer.

I currently have an inspiron 15-3520 laptop that I bought in 2012, that came with Windows 8 pre-loaded. I have updated to Windows 8.1 and are wondering if I can get the free upgrade to Windows 10 when it comes out. Any response would be appreciated, thanks.

A:Windows 10 Upgrade - Dell Inspiron 15-3520

Had the same problem after Win10 upgrade, my 3520 had a black screen and 3 beeps.  NONE of the traditional resets/setup/fixes worked! The only way I got mine and a neighbors 3520 going again was to remove the CMOS battery, which resets it enough to let you in the BIOS via the "F2" key at the now visible -Dell start-up screen- and then you can set the BIOS to reload the default values and restart.  Now you should be able to get in to your previous windows OS or Win10 (depending on how far the Win10 Upgrade got before it died) -in my case back to Win7 and Win8.1 for my neighbors.  The hard part is getting to the CMOS battery... take the laptop apart (all the way) AC/battery removed, remove keyboard (4 small push in  tabs along top of keyboard) then remove 3 cables (all marked with blue color/tabs) 1.) flip brown cable connector clasp to the right to remove keyboard cable, 2.) lift brown connector to remove power cable (upper left) and 3.)  lift brown connector to remove track pad cable.  Next remove 2 screws from the hole now open from where the keyboard was removed (the only 2 screws down brown plastic holes, middle left and upper middle) Now flip over laptop and remove all screws from bottom and then flip back upright and separate top of case from bottom, you have to gently pry apart at several points (guitar pick is a great tool or small screw driver) around case until top pops off, set aside.  The CMOS battery is a round flat cr2... Hi, I've just reformatted my Inspiron N5010 laptop, reinstalled WIndows 7 and now my Wifi doesnt work. Been trolling through the web I believe the issue here is with the driver as the attachment in Device Manager. I tried clicking on Software Update but it could not find the anything online. I tried to use Dell System Detect but it says format issue until I found a post in this forum stating to install Microsoft Net Framework. Title of post is Dell System Detect (DSD) launch error. It seems to have installed but when I run DSD nothing pops up. I was hoping DSD can help me identify the right driver. Can someone please help me with DSD, or maybe help me identify the right driver required? I hope I'm on the right track to resolve the WIfi issue.

I've browsed several forums with this issue, and cannot get a fix.

I upgraded a Dell Inspiron 1545 from Vista 64 to 7 64. Everything went off without a hitch (boy was I surprised).
Now that I have it all up and running, I cannot get my webcam working.

I have attempted to install the drivers off the Dell CD that came with the laptop. These are Vista 64 drivers, and they don't work. I have downloaded the drivers from the dell website - they are the same drivers as the CD.

Someone told me I could 'run the webcam in compatibility mode', but if the computer isn't even recognizing the webcam, how would that work?

Device Manager says the webcam is working properly.

I'm at my wits end with this. I really don't want to have to downgrade to Vista, but it's pretty important that this camera work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey everyone, I recently purchased an ADATA Ultimate SU800 256GB SSD and installed it in my Inspiron 7537. However, when I leave the computer on for extended periods of time the computer will crash and bluescreen, reboot, and the BIOS says there is no boot disk to be found. The strange thing is, the computer will boot back up with no issues after the power is turned completely off.
At first, I thought this might be an issue with the drive itself, but I've tried multiple disk utilities (including CrystalDisk and the native disk utility in Windows) and they've all reported that the SSD is functioning.
I've installed all the latest drivers from the dell support page, I've flashed the latest BIOS version, I've installed the most current version of windows 10 and verified the installation files. I can't seem to think of any reason for this to be happening other than the laptop is either broken or incompatible, both of which seem highly unlikely considering it was working fine before I instlalled the drive, and it is a newer machine and shouldn't be incompatible with a SATA drive.
Another thing to note is, connecting the old HDD through USB via an external casing causes the issue to happen much faster, and sometimes will yield the windows recovery menu (suggesting it was trying to boot from the HDD)
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! I've tried everything but I'm stumped.

Not sure why just pressing F2 turns off your WiFi typically a combination function key is needed to do so, like FN+F2. There is a quick set utility for dells that you can change settings. In the run box under start button type.. mobility center. Then from there you change the function keys to multimedia that might help.

Hi All.

First I need to mention I know Zero about networking.

The short version is How do I Disable WiFi on a years old Dell Inspiron 660?

Long version: Today I was doing some security updates on my Betterhalf's computer, I opened Task Manager for the first time on it. Under the Networking tab I saw the Local Area Connection like I see on my computer, but on top there was a second grid for WiFi!???

I didn't even know her system had WiFi.

Not knowing what to do, I looked at the "Network" icon on the lower left of the screen. Sure enough, I had my choice of four WiFi links.

I then looked at Device Manager under Network Adapters and found:
Dell Wireless 1506 802.11 b/g/n 2.4GHz, and
Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller.

I don't know what else to do, but I figure there has to be an easy way to simply turn it off without just uninstalling it in Device Manager.

Any ideas?

Sorry, but after thinking about it for a minute, how is the computer even seeing WiFi? It's hard wired into my router. Recently I had to look at my router for my cable company and it's something like a Linksys WG54G or GL.

So is it supplying the WiFi links to the computer? Or is it just getting them from 'thin air'??

In wifi, it runs only at 72Mbps and has previously run at 150Mbps. I also failed to install the intel engine, even though I installed it is still available for installation. Please advise someone. Sorry for google translator, perhaps it is understandable. Thank you very much
I still have a problem running windows 10, sometimes when I turn on the notebook is just a black screen, I have to turn off and then turn on and then it goes.

I currently own a Dell Inspiron N5010 laptop and want to upgrade the wifi capabilities of this laptop but I am unsure if it is possible or not.

It currently has the potential to download at 30 Mbs, so if I wanted to download at 50 or 100Mbs I would need to install another wifi card in the laptop.

The thing is though I have never even looked inside a laptop never mind upgraded one. Tell a lie I did install more RAM inside my machine but that is about it.

Can anyone advise please.

A:Is it possiblee to upgrade the wifi on Inspiron N5010

First of all, what is the speed of your connection to the internet thru your ISP? Most people are bottlenecked there since their wifi card is usually (not always) faster then their connection to the internet.

There are 3 common wifi standards, 802.11b, 802.11g and 802.11n. They're respective speeds are 11Mbs, 54Mbs & 300Mbs. Which of these do you presently have in your laptop?

Unless your laptop is really old, it most likely has g or n wifi capability. If your laptop has a g card now AND your internet connection speed is faster than 54Mbs then you would see an improvement by upgrading to an n card.

If you want to upgrade your laptop's wifi capability, you could contact Dell to ask if they have a card to upgrade the built-in wifi in your laptop. I did that for the Dell laptop I'm typing this post on.

An easier way to upgrade is to purchase a USB wifi adapter. In that case, you would disable the built-in wifi, plug the adapter into an available USB port and install the drivers that come with the adapter.

If you transfer large files between your laptop and other computers on your network, a faster wifi card will make a big difference but unless you have an exceptionally fast internet connection you probably won't gain any download speed.

Hi, I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 notebook pre-installed with Windows Vista Home Basic SP1. I found few of my softwares incompatible in it. So I preferred installing Windows XP SP2 removing Vista. I succeeded. I tried installing drivers.
The error message popped when installing "Dell Wireless 1515 (11agn) WLAN half mini-Card(Atheros) Rev:A01" was as below:

"Dell Wireless 1515 Adapter Device Not Found
The device may not be present or could have been ejected/unplugged from the system.
Aborting the install, please insert the card and try the installer again."

I thought it cud be BIOS configuration problem. But cudn't figure it out.
Please help asap!

and welcome to the Forum

Where did you get the driver? . . Did you install the Notebook Software and Chipset first?

You can go to the Dell support site, enter your Service Tag Number and download the drivers

See this for the order they should be installed:

I recently purchased a second hand Dell  5759, the computer looks new and works great unless I get more than a few feet from the router. I have gone to Dells website, updated the drivers, and all updates available. Love the computer but I cant use the wifi if I move from the room with the router to one just down the hall. I have other laptops all of which connect all over my house and all of which are showing my neighbors available networks but the dell just shows my network and will only connect if I am right by the router. Please help!!
Thanks, Billy

If you're comfortable opening the laptop up (instructions for which can be found in the Service Manual for that system, available at support.dell.com), you could try disconnecting and reconnecting the antennas from the WiFi card.  You may find that one or both of them are currently loose.

A:RE: My Dell Inspiron 3543 keeps losing WiFi connection

Thank you for writing to us!
Since you have installed the drivers , was it from the Dell support site and the latest one available.
You can also try the following steps:
Enter Command to Fix No Wi-Fi in Windows 10
Important: Follow the steps below carefully. Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Before you modify it, back up the registry for restoration in case problems occur.
You can use command to fix this no wireless issue after Windows 10 install if it?s triggered by VPN software.
Step 1. Right click the Start button and select ?Command Prompt (Admin)? from the menu. This can launch Command Prompt as Admin.
Step 2. Type the following command and hit the Enter key:
reg delete HKCR\CLSID\{988248f3-a1ad-49bf-9170-676cbbc36ba3} /va /f
Step 3. Enter the command below into the Command Prompt and press Enter key once more:
netcfg -v -u dni_dne
Step 4. Restart the computer and check back with your Wi-Fi settings. You now should see a revived list of all the available networks within range.
Note: If you have the Cisco VPN client, Sonic Global client or other VPN software running on your computer and you are planning to upgrade to Windows 10, uninstall the VPN before proceeding.
Kindly let us know if the issue is fixed.

Hi, in order to get wifi adapter working, you need to download and install atheros ac11 adapter driver which is not in win 8.1 x64 dell drivers section!!! Second step you need to download atheros ac11 adapter driver which is in win10 x64 drivers section. I'm using win 8.1 x64 and i did those steps i mentioned before. Didn't get any luck with win 7x64 so i was forced to install win 8.1

I'm having an incredibly frustrating issue where if I try to send an email with an attachment or try to upload a file over my wifi connection I get a timeout error. After the timeout my Internet connection drops and I can't view any web pages without disconnecting and reconnecting the wifi connection.
This only happens when attempting to upload an attachment of pretty much any size. Prior to this and after reconnection everything else works fine eg. browsing  the web until I try to upload again. The problem does not occur when plugged into the wifi router with the lan cable and I'm now having to do this whenever I need to send emails with attachments.
I have tried un-installing the Intel wifi driver and all network driver and reinstalling plus reinstalling the latest drivers. I have also tried flashing with the latest BIOS. Basically all Dell drivers are up to date. Dells on line diagnostics dos not find any issue and neither does Microsoft diagnostics.
I also replaced my old ADSL router with a new one but the same problem persists. The problem does not occur when I use my old Dell Studio laptop or any of the other 3 family pc's in the house.
Could there possibly be a problem with the actual network or Wifi card?
I desperately need a solution to this please...
Thanks in advance

A:Dell Inspiron 17 5767 - Wifi timeout during upload

I must also add that I have tried changing some of the settings in the advanced tab of the Intel Dual band wifi adapter's device settings as referred to in one of the Dell problem solving links including turning off the power management of the device and this seemed to have a positive effect for a short while where I suddenly managed to upload a 6MB file. Unfortunately it was short lived and the next time I tried I had the same issue.
I have absolutely no problems with downloading my emails or drivers or anything else off the web. Only uploads are a problem.
thanks again...

The laptop was used 2 hours before the wifi adapter suddenly went "missing", as in no wifi driver is shown in the Device Manager list, and when I try to install the driver, the installation was unsuccessful due to absence of hardware.
Now, this laptop was bought 3 years ago, and this problem reoccurred a few times, each time it just magically fixed itself after a couple of days. The problem usually happens after having carried the computer outside during bus ride, so I'm guessing the hardware component somehow got shaken out of place?
What should I do now to fix the problem ASAP? Thank you!

My fiancee and I currently have the Dell Inspiron 17R SE laptop with the Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230, and it has worked for a few months now up until the Monday of last week. While on the internet, my fiancee was noticing her wifi speed slowed down to a crawl. She performed speed tests to find out that the speed was not as high as it used to be. She updated drivers for the computer, as well as removed any clutter that would cause the wifi slowdown.
When we tried many options, they did not give us the results that we were looking for. Finally, after some process of elimination, we concluded that our wifi card needed a replacement. I don't want to get any old card to use and then find out that it doesn't fit or is not compatible with Windows 10. I have been taking my time to research what could be compatible to improve my laptop computer, but I have been coming up short.

What I would like to know is what wifi cards are compatible with our Dell computer so that we can get this replaced as soon as possible without having to pay out the nose for unneeded computer repair?
