I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I was recently given a HP Pavilion ZV5000 that has an odd problem. It will run for 4 or 5 minutes and then reboot on it's own. I blew out the fans thinking it may be a heat problem, but don't think it's that. One of the fans on the bottom isn't working though. Either that or it's a fan dedicated to the video card in it and it spins when needed.

I thought it might be a virus so I tried booting into safe made and running the virus scanner and it seems to run o.k. with no reboots in safe, so I'm thinking it must be something in the XP installation.

What would you folks try first? Sorry I can't provide all the details for it, but what I do know is it's a P4 with an ATI vid card.

Thanks!

Hi i'd like to restore a previous bios to my computer or have support help me with getting it to support ACPI devices. I bought a GDC Beast and a GTX graphics card, plugged it in to my mini-pci slot and tried to boot, was greeted by a blue screen that said this bios is not ACPI Compliant, so which bios would I need to use to make the error go away and boot using my graphics card? The current bios file is sp77491.exe and it hasnt been updated since 2016.Thanks for your help.

Laptop is Acer Aspire 5742, It keeps rebooting and shows on screen F2 to enter BIOS but even after clicking the F2 nothing happens and keeps rebooting again repeatedly.
I tried with a Windows disk but seems first boot priority is Hard disk and cannot change that since I cannot get into bios.

Any ideas on how to solve this?

My appreciations!.

I installed a new hard drive.  I was able to a fresh install of Windows 7.  After installation, I restarted the computer and the bios came up, I'll see the F2 and F12 option, And it will say "press any button to bood from CD or DVD, but after that it will just reboot to the beginning, over and over.
I can boot to the install/ repair screen with the Win 7 disk and select "repair Windows" but if finds nothing wrong.  Bios reboot continues on restart.
I've used F2 to put settings back to default, and F12 to run diagnostics (and boot from Hard Drive).
I tried F8.  There is no "Safe Start" option.   I'm not sure if this is the "F8" page everyone is talking about. The options that come up are:

Hello all. I was trying to put together an alternate system (after my primary stopped booting).

So I got a MoBo, CPU, PSU, RAM from a friend. This system was working before I got the system. Well, at least it was as of a couple of months ago. I put the system together for my friend about a year ago, and he upgraded to a new system. So this system is only about a year old.

I get it, and the CPU fan was not fully connected (only connected by one plastic pin). So I got that back in (after a little effort).

I tested the MoBo and CPU outside the case (to isolate any case shorts) and no POST beep. Then after about 8 seconds, it reboots. After the reboot, still no POST beep, but it will stay on. (of course, no video output...when I try it with the GPU in)

I have tried disconnecting every other device (no HDD, no optical drive, no RAM, no GPU). I have also tried each stick of RAM independently in DIMM slot 1.

I have also tried resetting the CMOS by moving the jumper to the 2,3 slot for 30+ seconds. And I have tried removing the MoBo battery and then pressing the power button (to discharge any thing in the PSU).

And yes, I do have the both the 24 pin and 8 pin power cables plugged into the MoBo.

Here's what I'm dealing with:

Thermaltake TX 750w
Asus P5E3 Deluxe MoBo
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
2 2GB OCZ PC3 10666 Platinum Edition RAM
Anyone have any ideas what may be the issue here?

Thanks in advance!

Hi, got a T520 here (nVidia GPU) which constantly restarts and never reaches the Welcome Screen of the BIOS: - power button LED goes green- fan rotates and optical drive is accessed- fan stops, LED switches off- approx. one second pause and the whole sequence starts again This happens both with the power supply and on battery. HDD is removed.I've already detached the optical drive and the BIOS battery. Any more ideas? Could this be the result of a failed BIOS update? Or some UEFI variables screw-up?Is there a crisis recovery procedure for the T520 to update the BIOS from the boot block? Regards,jal2

Hello,

I was expecting that spending more money (1000 Euros) on a laptop like Toshiba would help to use it longer.

Unfortunately, after using during 1 year and half, and only for work, it kept rebooting and switching off at some point.

I could not use the warranty as I've realised this after not using it for a year.

I spoke to Toshiba about reversing the BIOS as the issues that I've been experienced happened after updating the BIOS but the guy that I was speaking with keep ignoring me and not answering to them anymore. Sometimes, I regret bitterly buying Toshiba for the level of service that I've received until now.

I need to repair this laptop as it was quite powerful and I need it for my work. Unfortunately, I can't spend 1000 E this time.

Anyone would have the previous BIOS for the Satellite A660-1F5? or What could be the reason of the issues that I am experiencing?

Best Regards,

Howard,

I am officially in trouble. Last evening, I came home to discover my computer frozen on my desktop. After rebooting, the BIOS registered my primary HD as a slave drive (IDE 1 - slave, with primary empty) followed by a message stating that the computer couldn't boot the OS.

I ran the Windows XP CD to the recovery console and found that I could not do anything with my C: drive (i.e. 'dir' came back with an error). My other HDs are not bootable, and somewhat full, so I have decided to purchase a new HD and do a clean install. As for the OS, since my XP was an upgrade from a few yrs back, and I no longer have 98, I have purchased Vista Home Premium, in the hopes that a clean install of the new HD and new OS will solve some of my headaches.

Any thoughts on the future of my C:? The drive is less than 2 yrs old and is a fairly standard 300GB Western Digital 7200 RPM 8MB Ultra ATA drive.

Any other things I should consider before taking this drastic measure? One additional motivation for doing this cleanup is that my files are poorly organized across my HDs today, and one of them has a prior OS on it (XP Home) in blue-screen perpetuity. I figure its time for a full-scale clean up.

Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated. In the meantime, i'll try not to cry all that much. Thanks again.

-Ben

Hi,
I have my daughter's computer here, trying to fix it. She's a single mom with not much money so she has no way of taking it in and having it fixed. It started shutting down with a blue screen with a bunch of writing on it that shut down too fast to read. I caught page fault and memory dump. I tried to restore to an earlier date, but it wouldn't do it. I tried a system recovery, and it still did it. I did a full system restore and now after it installs...when it goes to reboot...it goes to the boot options i.e. safe mode, last known good configuration, etc. It does it over and over. Sometimes that blue screen with all the writing will pop up before it reboots. Any suggestions, short of shooting it and burying it, would be much appreciated. She was so excited that her sister gave her the computer and now this!

Thanks,
Molly

A:Full System Recovery Then Rebooting And Rebooting And Rebooting.....

Without being able to see the error message, it's hard to tell. But I'd guess it's one of two things: either the hard drive is too full or a piece of hardware, such as a drive or sound card or something, has failed. If the hard drive is too full and there isn't enough RAM to load Windows into, it tries to swap some data over to the hard drive, but being no room, it simply shuts down and dumps the memory. There are things that can possibly be done for this, but more info is needed. If you have upgraded Windows from an earlier version, and the system is a FAT 32 system, you can get in and delete files with a Windows boot disk, such as from Windows 98. Sometimes, you can start the system with something like Ultimate Boot Disk, which uses a scaled-down Linux operating system, and then use included tools to delete or move files.

If a device has failed, the only way to troubleshoot it is to remove devices. If you get lucky, you can find the bad one.

When you restored Windows, I'm guessing you did an over-the-top reinstall, and didn't lose any data, is that right? Or did you do a complete wipe and restore?

hello, 2 days ago my laptop was working fine but when i turned it on yesterday it would not load up all it would do is power on a blank screen and the caps lock would flash twice and stop and flash twice again. i looked it up and saw that it was a "bios" problem and to manually fix it was to hold down the windows + b key and turned it on and needles to say it didnt work. i even try to reset it by taking out the battery and holding down the power button to see if that'll help and nope. today i look online to see if theres a way i can fix it but so far all i see is to take it apart to look at the fan or some part near the fan. to be honest i don't feel comfortable taking apart my laptop at all  (i dont mind doing the programing and stuff though) and i was wondering if theres something else i can do to get this problem fixed asap.please help and thank you

Hello HP-team! I've got "hp pavilion 23 aio pc", CZC240BKNV, model 23-b000ec, which doesn't boot. No screen, no POST-sounds. 1. I downloaded sp67096, 70065 and 70066, copied the BIOS to the USB-Flash and tried to recover it via Win+B (+Power) keys combination, but unsuccessfully: no any result. 2. I tried to read data from Windond W25Q64 Flash memory using the external SPI-programmer, connected to ROM-RECOVERY connector, but unsuccessfully also. 3. I removed mentioned W25Q64 memory from the PCB, soldered the wires to its pins and connected directly to programmer, but still w/o results. Thus I decided W25Q64 got NG and has to be replaced. 4. I found S25FL165K (manufacturer is Spansion), soldered it onto PCB and flashed via ROM-RECOVERY connector using the external SPI-programmer. I tried to burn LEE_816.ROM (from sp67096), LIN_8011.BIN (from sp70065) and LEE_817.ROM (fro)sp70066). The flashing process "per se" finished successfully always, but PC doesn't start as well. After I turn it on, it restarts only after some seconds. The screen is black, no any sound. So may the problem be in S25FL165K compatibility? It has same protocol, capacity, but there are also some differences, which might be significant. So my questions are: a). Is S25FL165K ( Spansion) compartible with my PCB? Or do I have to use Windond W25Q64 exactly? Or something different? b). As I mentioned, I tried to flash *.rom or *.bin files from sp*****.exe-packages, downl... Read more

Hi: Normally, you can tap the ESC key at the beginning of the HP splash screen to get a menu of options. From that list, select the F10 boot options menu. If that doesn't work, then see if you can get into the BIOS using the method described at the link below. Watch the video.  All brand PC's with W8.1 have this feature. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZcYbxOcPV0 If that doesn't work, unfortunately, I don't have any other suggestions to offer.

I purchased this laptop in December with Windows 10 installed. A few weeks ago I started getting a notification in Support Assistant to update the system BIOS.  No matter how many times I run the update the notification persists and the Action Log has never recorded this update as having taken place. After checking with this Forum, it appears that other users have had issues with BIOS updates, and HP Support cautions against updating the System BIOS unless there is a compelling reason to do so. 1. Since I am not having any issues which would compell such an update, should I simply dismiss the notification? 2. If such an update is not advised, why does Support Assistant display its notification? 3. Would dismissing the notification render this Notebook suseptible to security vulnerabilities? 4. The instructions on the HP website for updating theSystem BIOS are considerably more complicated than the procedure launched from Support Assistant. What exactly is this?  The update in Support Assistant is Softpac number SP76353, Version F.19Ap1, Size 8.89MB.

A:HP Pavilion BIOS Update

Hi @LAB7, Thank you for posting at HP Forums! I have read your post and wanted to help. I understand that you have some questions about updating the BIOS. I agreed that if there is no problem with current system running, it is not necessary to update the BIOS. However, HP support assistant will populate the notification once there is a newer version of the BIOS. You can dismiss the message and it will not cause security problems. There is another way to update the BIOS, by downloading it from HP support page. You can put your product number here on this link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers. Select the right OS on the page, it will show the most updated drivers of your model including the BIOS. Hope these could help. I got a big problem. A friend asked me to update his OS on a HP Pavilion 900MHZ desktop. So i did. He also asked to upgrade his memory from from 256mb to 512mb. So i tried. He has the 168pin Sdram DIMM. One stick worked fine. But when I put in the second stick it errors. "bios not acpi compliant"

So i looked up the error. First i found that i can just turn off the acpi in cmos and it will work. No option in cmos. Then I found to redo the install and at the setup screen hit F7 instead of F6. Did not work. Blue screen during install. Also found that i need to update the bios. Went to HP site. NOthing there. Went to motherboard site. Its an asus k7m board. Got the updated bios. Got the flash program. No luck. Says bios/chipset not found. CAnnot flash the bios. Thing is i am stuck. Got the memory from a local computer shop. He had to special order it since its so old. He will not take it back. $70. I need to flash this bios.

Anybody know where i can find a flash that will upgrade the bios or a website to help me with this?

The memory stick is good. I can put either one in and it works fine, just not both. Very frustrated.

Thanks

What model Pavillion is it? Many times though you have an asus mobo the Bios has been customized for HP to work with it. And the motherboard may also not be a standard asus K7m motherboard, being a custom setup for HP.

Hi Guys-n-Gals
I have an HP Pavilion DV9500 Laptop
I have Ubuntu Linux on a Samsung HM500JJ 500Gb HDD in bay one, boots with
no problems at all.
I have Windows XP PRO SP3 preinstalled on a WD1600BEVS 160Gb hdd in bay two, drive not seen in BIOS so I do not have a choice to boot from it.
Ubuntu Linux still boots fine no problems.
Second HDD Win XP is seen by Ubuntu Linux and I can access folders on the drive
with no problems, so nothing wrong with drive or OS.
If I take out the drives and put the WD160 drive in bay one leaving the second bay empty it boots fine into Windows with no problems.
If I take out the WD drive and put it in bay two leaving bay one empty I get no boot, operating system not found.
If I take out the Samsung500 drive and put it in bay two leaving bay one empty I get no boot, operating system not found.
So either disk will boot fine when in drive bay one.
Neither disk will boot when in drive bay two.
If both drives are in both bays either way round the drive in the second bay will not show in the BIOS and will not boot
Question? How do I solve this problem, HP as usual are no help.
Thanks in anticipation of any help.

Tomorrow is an extension of today but yesterday is just a memory

Hi, i have this HP Pavilion DV5 laptop which is causing me some problems

I am currently testing two different hard drives with this laptop, and I can confirm that they are working fine.

When I turn the laptop on, the HP logo shows up a couple seconds later, and I have the option of entering the "startup menu". If i don't enter it, then it proceeds to a black screen around 5 seconds later. While this is happening, the hard drive light goes flashes on and off until the black screen. After that, the hard drive light does not flash any more. The computer is not able to boot properly, and it cannot start Windows.

However, if i enter the startup menu, than I can run diagnostics on the hard drive, and open BIOS.
The hard drive test passes easily, but it is not being recognized on BIOS. I neither can enable or disable the "notebook hard drive" because it is not contained in that list.

I should also add that these hard drives are working fine 100%, because i use them on different Laptops. (HP Pavilion DV4 and Acer Aspire One).

Please help with any suggestions.

Hi,
Have you installed an operating system on these hard drives? Operating systems can't be transferred and a fresh install is required if you move it from one computer to another. Have you tried booting from a live CD or flash drive?
