Thinkpad X1 Carbon gen 4th external Monitors with mini display port and HDMI, working together ?

Q: Thinkpad X1 Carbon gen 4th external Monitors with mini display port and HDMI, working together ?

Hallo Community, I am using my X1 Carbon gen 4th with an external Monitor via HDMI cable. Now i would like to try to add another external Monitor on it. Without any docking station would be perfect. I notice that there is also a mini display port on my device. I suppose I can connect one monitor via HDMI and the other with mini Displayport? Will these two monitors work together at the same time? I would like to ask, if anyone has experience about that? Thanks for the inputs in advance!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The monitor is never recognized. However, the mini-display port will work with a miniDP to DVI or miniDP to VGA adapter cable (I verfied this at a store where there were multiple cables and monitors to use).

miniDP to HDMI: does not work
miniDP to DVI: works
miniDP to VGA: works

Has anyone else seen this problem?

Greetings. I have a T480 connected to a Pro docking station (the one with the side connectors). I am triying to connect it to an HDM TV via a DP 1.4 to HDMI 2.0 active adapter. Windows detects a connected screen, and the TV detects input in that channel, but there is no image nor audio.Things I have tried already:- Updated thunderbolt firmware and drivers, and everything available from Lenovo.- Tried both intel graphics drivers from their website and the Lenovo OEM ones.- Tried a Variety of refresh rates and resolutions.- Trying the adapter In a x220 displayport: it works without problems, so the problem isn't the cable.- Testing a different, passive adapter: It works with the T480.- Numerous reboots, disconnecting the dock and everything from it, and connecting one device at a time.- Tried both displayports with each of the 4 HDMI inputs of the TV.- Thunderbolt assist mode in bios disabled. And that's all I remember from the top of my head. Any idea as to why is this happening?

However, I can't get them to both work at the same time no matter what configuration I use. I was told they didn't have to be identical monitors to work together. What am I doing wrong?

For the first couple weeks I was able to run 3x 1080p monitors just fine using two display ports and an hdmi port. This morning when I docked my computer I could only get two to work. I can disable one then enable another and get all three working but only in sets of two.  I tested two of my coworkers laptops on my dock and all three monitors work fine. Also when I boot all three work until the Windows splash screen then one goes dark.  If I try to enable the third one: It acts like it's connected but the display remains dark and I lose my mouse cursor. I can stll move the mouse and see the hover overs but the cursor is gone.  I'm thinking this is a windows driver/firmware issue. In device manager I see all three:   But can't seem to get all three to work at once.  I've tried reinstalling both the Thunderbolt drivers and the display drivers with no luck. Any ideas? I'd like to avoid completely reinstalling Windows as I know that'll probably be a suggestion.

Hello, I just bought an X1 Carbon Gen 4 and need to hook up 2 external monitors which have VGA, HDMI or DVI ports available. The idea is to have a 3 monitor setup (all three monitors with a resolution of 1920x1080) including the Built-in monitor and the 2 external ones. I have bought the OneLink+ adapter that has the RJ45 and VGA ports (4X90J31060) and am trying to set the whole rig up so that one monitor connects to the VGA port on the adapter and the other monitor is connected through the HDMI port on the laptop. The problem is that I can only seem to get 2 monitors going at a time, either Built-in & HDMI or Built-in & VGA. Before I go and buy more hardware (i.e. dock or MiniDP to HDMI/DVI adaptor), I was wondering if what I am attempting is even possible, and if it is, what I am doing wrong. Thanks to anyone who can answer.

Once its working and I disconnect the dock from the laptop and reconnect it back, the monitor will not come on and remain in low power mode with amber light. I then have to go through the power down and power up cycle for the monitor to display laptop output signal or else it will remain in low power mode. Hi 944V8! Welcoem to our forums community. Base on the product reference: http://psref.lenovo.com/Product/ThinkPad_X1_Carbon_2nd_Gen, you can connect a maximum of two external displays. The maximum resolution is : 3840 x 2160 at 30 Hz through the mini display port and 2880 x 1620 max resolution at 60Hz through the HDMI port. We highly suggest you to connect it directly to the external monitor because passing it to a VGA port would degrade the display quality.

Hey all,I've tried pretty much everything I can think of to get my HDMI port working on my X1 Carbon 5th gen (20HR).1. Updated my video driver (currently running 24.20.100.6344 for Intel HD 620)2. Set my display mode to all of the options from Windows + P. My laptop has not once detected that a second screen is attached. I have a customer who has the above model Lenovo laptop. She hooked up an an external display via HDMI using a HDMI-mini HDMI adapter connected to the mini-HDMI port of the laptop which was working fine for more than a few months. She was using the Best Buy Insignia brand. All of a sudden, the external display no longer detected the laptop and the laptop didn't detect the second display. I remoted in and checked everything out and it seemed OK as far as drivers and such so, for simplicity sake (and after having her verify the external display was working wtih other devices), I had her pick up an Insignia HDMI-miniHDMI cable and just bypass the adapter. She tried that, no luck. So I remoted in again and uninstalled the Intel and Nvidia drivers and reisntalled them using the drivers from the Lenovo website. There was no change. I've done some extensive research about this issue in the forums and there have been other models with similar issues and the fixes were... using a different cable, different adapter, or both. These were mainly solutions to solve the problem of secondary displays not being detected at first, not fixing the issue of it working just fine for a while until one day... nothing. Has anyone come across an issue similar to this? I'm trying to get more of a definate solution versus swapping more adapters and cables around. I recently purchased a Lenovo M720t as the tower and two Dell VH240a monitors for a small business computer to run out of my home. I didn't realize until I received the tower that it only had DisplayPort outputs for display and the monitors only had HDMI inputs. HI there I am having a peculiar problem. The right-side USB port (the one next to the Ethernet port) of my 3rd Gen X1 Carbon (model 20BT) has stopped working. Windows reports two USB controllers, and Linux does the same. The ethernet port works as expected. I even replaced the USB/RJ45 system card and the problem persists: The Ethernet port works, the USB port does not. No peripheral is being recognised (I have tried a wireless mouse, a usb flash drive and a Yubikey) and no power seems to be available from the port.  I was thinking that if there was some issue with the motherboard then one of the USB host chips would not be recognised, but this does not seem to be the case. I am now thnking whether it would be worth it to replace the motherbaord or just purchase another (used) machine. The warranty has expired. Any ideas? Thank you! Frixos

Hello, everyone.
I am using a Latitude 3540 laptop with switchable graphics (Intel HD Graphics, AMD Radeon HD 8850M). As soon as I got the laptop, I upgraded to 8.1 (probably a mistake!).
All of my drivers are up to date according to Device Manager, and I've updated the chipset and BIOS and everything according to the Dell website. But for as long as I've had this laptop, the VGA port will not work! I'm using a VGA cord that has worked with other laptops before without issue. The laptop will not output to projector, external monitor, or a TV. Pressing the win-P combination brings up the ability to extend and duplicate my screen. When I change those settings, my screen resolution will change, but the external monitor/projector doesn't display anything. When I try to detect displays in my graphics properties, it just doesn't detect anything that's connected.
Is my VGA port faulty? Or does anyone have any suggestions on what else to try at this point? My laptop is still under warranty, so I suppose I could always send it in to be fixed.
Thanks for the help!
