T440S Windows 8.1 64-bit Thinkpad Mouse tab missin...

Q: T440S Windows 8.1 64-bit Thinkpad Mouse tab missin...

In the past, I have customized my Trackpoint/Touchpad/mouse advanced settings via the Control Panel/Mouse/Thinkpad tab. Sometime recently, that tab has disappeared and my customization is gone. I've tried everything that I can think of to get that tab back, but nothing works. I have: * Verified that my BIOS is set to enable the Trackpoint and pad.* Uninstalled and reinstalled the Synaptics device driver, version, plus rebooted.* Run Lenovo System Update and installed all relevant driver updates.* Tried to install the Synaptics Touchpad Firmware for Windows 732/764/864/B64, but I get "Reflash cannot find firmware updates for the devices on this system". Any advice?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

i've got a T440s that was upgraded to windows 10 about 6 months ago. after installing a new brother printer yesterday, the machine won't boot any more; it just goes directly to automatic repair, then diagnostics, neither of which help. i tried several system restore points, but sr always fails telling me it can't copy the registry. i ran the lenovo hardware diagnostics which fails in the targeted read test of the hard drive with bad sectors. i am backing up all the data (which is on the solid-state drive ?) manually from the cli prompt (that still works) before i do anything else. next planned step is to run the bad sectors tool). i'm wondering if the bad sectors are where the registry (or its backup) is stored, and if so, then will "fixing" the bad sectors destroy the registry to the point where i need to do a refresh. this is the first time i've dealt with a system with a hybrid drive (ssd for start-up & os, hd for storage. since it was originally a windows 8.1 machine will running the refresh put back windows 10, and if so, will it know where to write the refreshed os files to the ssd and hd? all suggestions appreciated.

First off, I am an Electronics Technician by trade.  I have 25 years of experience with all kinds of electronics.  This one has me scratching my head.  This all  started because I had an issue with my touchpad so I changed it out.  During the process I removed all power including, power cord, external battery and internal battery.  Replaced the mouse pad and put everything back together.  When I went to power it up I got no response.  Here are the things I have tried. 1. Hold the power button for a minute.  Tap it 10 times then hold anothe minute.2. Remove all batteries and press the power button for 1 minute.3. Remove all batteries and the RAM module and press the power button.4. Press the reset button through the cover on the back of the machine.   5. Lastly I disconnected the CMOS batter along with all other power.  The last step actually let me me boot up my machine and everything was working like normal.  I was happy I had fixed the problem, but I didn't.  Once I shut down the machine it still will not power back up.  I have to disconnect the CMOS battery again in order for me to powe up the machine.  Once the machine comes back I updated the BIOS to the latest version and that didn't help either.  I am stumped!  Any advice that anyone can give me is greatly appreciated.

A:Thinkpad T440s won't power up

It sounds like the power button.  Make sure the little cable is inserted all the way and is straight.  Also, the little board with the actual button might not be mounted correctly.

Everything was working perfectly fine on my T440s with Windows 10 Pro, I am not sure what caused the issue, May be a driver upgrade touchpad is no more working. I suspect that it's not a hardware issue because button clicks works and scrolling in web pages works. The Driver version which I do have currently installed is from Synaptics.  If I open the mouse properties I can change settings for TrackPoint but TrackPad options are grayed out. Can't make any changes.  I tried different drivers from Lenovo, Reinstalled Windows 10, Tried Resetting Windows 10 and Reinstalled drivers but nothing works. I would like to hear from any T440s owners which version of driver they use and if everything is well with Windows 10. I am thinking of making some modifications in the registry to get it back to work.  Any help ?? Thanks in advance!!

Hello,  I newly bought a Thinkpad 68+ (6 cell, 72Wh) battery for my Thinkpad T440s (i7, 12gb ram), but noticed that after only 4 cycles, its maximum charge capacity dropped from 71.1Wh originally to 66.07Wh both through Windows 10's Battery Report and Lenovo Vantage.. The voltage also got higher ; it went from 11,2V to 12,96V... Should I consider my new battery as faulty ? Or is it considered "'normal" to lose basically 9% of the original capacity after 1 week and a half and 4 cycles...?I use my computer quite lightly, doing mostly office and Chrome browsing. Thank you, and all of you have an excellent day

A:ThinkPad T440s, new battery, low capacity

I would not be happy with this performance. I would take it up with the vendor. Did you buy this from Lenovo?I would have expected better from Lenovo, unfortunately some other suppliers are less reliable.

Hi you guys!I would like to excuse my bad English in advance. This happened like three days ago. Regular reboot. No forced updates or any installation, just an ordinary reboot. But then, all of a sudden, I couldn't work my ass out of the boot screen. It doesn't go in to loop either, just standing there, acting like a d*ck. I've tried ALL F-buttons but none has worked at all. But if I FN-lock them, I can change the brightness and that kind of stuff - SO, it's responding, but nothing more nothing less. And because I can't choose different boot, neither go into BIOS, I feel kinda f-ed (did my motherboard actually brick it self?!)Tried so far: BIOS battery, int+ext batterypack, w/ and w/o AC adapter, disconnected the harddrive, disconnected the RAM. And you know what? The same screen. ALL of the times.Any suggestions? Try to recover bad sectors (if any) in another computer? I would love to have USB>S-ATA right now, but I'm going to use it ONCE, so that's out of question.Kthxbye, love <888

When my screen dims down, I touch the pad and screen is back up."enable touchpad" is grayed out in Mouse Properties under control panel. All trackpad features are fine, only the mouse is not working.Another thing I noticed: when I get to Windows login screen works fine (sometimes), but then, once I get authenticated and get Windows loaded, its stops working.BTW, I'm using Windows 7 Driver reinstall, reload factory image, enabled/disabled in BIOS.. nothing helps.Hopefuly a Lenovo stuff would read this and share some thoughts. This is my second 440s replacement. I have recently purchased a 29" ultrawide LG monitor, with a 21:9 aspect ratio. When I plug it in, it recommends a 2560x1080 screen resolution. I was disappointed as the display settings on my thinkpad only go up to a 1960x1080 resolution.  Is there any way to achieve the correct resolution? I am currently connecting to the monitor using the dual DVI-D cable that came with the monitor.  I am wondering if there is a driver update that will support this, or a change in connection method? Thank you To update:  I am now connected via an HDMI/Display port cable instead of the DVI cable. This has not given me the option to increase my screen resolution in my display settings.

FYI - After much research and consultation I have fixed it. Turns out I needed to update my Intel HD Graphics Driver to the latest version which supports a 2560x1080 resolution. I also purchased the HDMI/Display port cable which didn't solve the problem but probably helps with quality.

Hey all, Recently I've been having problems with my T440s ThinkPad not turning on. The first time this happened, I took out the internal battery and it worked! But then it randomly shut off while using it again and it hasn't turned on since. I purchased a new internal battery in hopes of that being the issue and it just arrived today but I still get nothing when trying to power on. I'll run through what I have tried unplugging and plugging back in the internal batteryholding the power button for 60 seconds to discharge itpressing the emergency reset buttonremoving the RAM and placing the RAM back I have done all of these things multiple times except I only reinserted the RAM once. Oddly enough, when the internal battery is unplugged and I plug the AC adpater into the machine, the power LED flashes 3 times. I've searched for this possible LED error "code" and found nothing.  I am desperate for help, I am entering my senior year and as a computer science major it is necessary for me to have a laptop for most of my classes.  Any and all suggestions are welcome. Thanks

Hello all,I am in the process of upgrading my my ThinkPad T440s and T450. After reading in several articles that it?s possible to remove the WWAN LTE/4G card and replace this with a M.2.2242 (22mm) NVMe PCI-e SSD I started looking for the most suitable M.2 2242 SSD to build in my T440s an in to the T450 After doing some research I ended up buying 2 Toshiba RC100 SSD. To fit in the M.2. PCI-e slots in the above mentioned ThinkPads. These are to be used as Boot disks.(And 2 SamSung 860EVO 250GB to build in the SATA3 connections for storage.)Main reasons:-This Toshiba drive is PCIe 3.0 using only two lanes, rather than the four that the faster drives employ. This is reducing energy consumption and minimizes the risk of overheating (and limits performance).-Due to this limited performance it?s not the fastest (pretty slow vor NVMe) but still super fast compared to SATA3 SSD on 6GB/sec. To me the Toshiba RC100 seemed to be the ideal NVMe SSD to place in my T440s and my T450. I ran in to trouble when installing M.2. NVMe PCI-e drive in my ThinkPad T440s and T450. When I do install the (unformatted) M.2 NVMe SSD and fire up the ThinkPads the start-up procedure gets interrupted and BIOS shows the message: "2101: Detection error on SSD1 (M.2) Press Esc to continue" The BIOS does not recognize the M.2 SSD. I do run the latest BIOS version.I do intent to install openSUSE LEAP 15 Please is there someone here that can help me?How do I g... Okaayyyyy so I know the trackpad on the t440 is literally the worse piece of tech on the planet and I'm going to be getting a t450 trackpad to put in it soon. I disabled the trackpad in the bios just becuase it is so horrible and I just use the trackpoint. Now every like 15 minutes or so the mouse goes completely bonkers and takes on a mind of it's own and starts zooming around the screen and clicking randomly. At one point it even clicked in the right places to change my desktop background. I took a video of it happening on my phone and if you can't tell what I'm doing all I am doing is slowly moving the trackpoint and with every move it goes psycho. yes I have tried many many driver versions. https://youtu.be/CU4lCh05FVM

Did you notice any 'balloon' windows mention you are logged into a 'temporary' profile? If so, make sure your network cables/card is securely attached, restart, and try again. You might find your profile by typing this into your address bar in file explorer: C:\Users -and then looking through the correct user account for the desktop.
See picture for more detail:
Or you might be able to find what you're looking for by browsing in a folder called windows.old if you do in fact have it somewhere in your C: drive.

My windows failed to load b/c a critical system driver is missing or corrupt.

File: windows/system32/Drivers/gjofl.sys

Status: 0xc0000225

Prior to this, I had received some sort of virus that microsoft security essentials claimed to quarantine. I also ran malware bytes. After the scans, my computer accidentally became unplugged and died (the battery is shot). After trying to restart, I received the error msg.

I have tried booting up in safe mode and it doesn't work.

I also ran diagnostics -- the only msg I received was: "diagnostics not found on utility partition". I have no idea what that means.

I am being prompted to insert my installation disc to repair my comp, but windows was preinstalled so I don't have that option.

Please help!

A:Windows failed to start b/c critical driver is missin or corrupt

I dont know the answer, but I have a suspicion, that maybe, that driver has something to do with the virus. I googled the driver, nothing. I looked at my computers drivers (cmd prompt and type driverquery) and I do not have it.

Hello I've got T440s (20AQ004URT) and I want to connect it to my Sony Bravia TV (Miracast certified) wirelessly.I've made clean Windows 10 installation. At this point WiDi connection works 8 times out of 10. Then, Windows automatically installs necessary drivers (for touchpad, graphics, etc.). At this point I could hardly get WiDi working, it starts to connect to my TV and then just fails. So, I went to Intel forum and found out that I should install latest drivers from Intel (graphics, networking and Intel WiDi Pro software). I have installed all that stuff, but nothing changed. My hardware seems to be compatible with Intel WiDi Pro, as I could install necessary software. Also, my antivirus/firewall is disabled. But I still can't get WiDi working - laptop sees my TV, it starts to connect, my TV shows connection, but then it fails.  Please, help me resolve this issue.

Is there anything I can do to recoer these lost files?
I haven't saved anything on the PC after I discoverd this and I have unpluged from the internet.

When I get my new one can I connect this drive as a slave and run a utility or something to find these files?

That is an unusual problem, if they have been deleted, then some recovery software is on order before something writes over them. having said that, installing the recovery software may write over the pictures you are trying to save.
when you get your new system you can set the drive as a slave and run recovery software.

Hi there all.  I just purchased a refurbished T440s from BestBuy.  It was shipped from one their resselers.  It has the following specs: T440s - 14"Intel i5-4300U CPU1920X1080 Touchscreen250GB SSD8GB DDR3 It came with Windows 10, which I had to go thru and install it myself.  I was a desktop user before and didn't have any experience with notebooks before.  But I did realized it didn't have any of Lenovos utilities on it.  That seemed odd to me.  So I went to Lenovo support.  I was very impressed.  The serial number was detected and 5 downloads were offered as "the most popular" downloads for this model.  So I went ahead and installed the following utilities: - Lenovo's system update for Windows 10- Connect2- Lenovos Power Management Driver for Windows 10- Lenovos System Interface Foundation for Windows 10 So far, so good.  Everything seems to work well.  I have the follwoing questions: 1.  Did I miss anything?  Are there any more utilities that I should be installing? 2.  What is Expresscache Utility.  This computer has only one 250 GB SSD.  Do I need to install the Expresscache utility?  My understanding of it is that Expresscache speeds up reading and writing to HDDs by using cache on SSD.  I don't have an HDD on it.  However, I do use a large external USB HDD.  So would Expresscache help speed up read/write to the external USB HDD? Th... Most Thinkpads coming back on the market as refurbished units have Windows 10 installed.  This is even for models as early as the T400/T500 when the original operating system was Windows 7. This is somewhat annoying since I have devices for which drivers are available only for Windows 7 and earlier. I would prefer not to have to re-purchase "upgraded" devices - at least until the EOL of Windows 7. What are my option(s) to get Windows 7 on such a system? i) Would the Restore and Recovery discs for the original Windows 7 install still be available from Lenovo? ii) Would it be better to find a generic Windows 7 installation disc (with COA and Product Key), install this, then get the drivers for the specific Thinkpad from the Lenovo web site? iii) Could downgrade rights to Windows 7 Pro be exercised with a refurbished Thinkpad running Windows 10 Pro? Thanks! P.S. How about the more recent Thinkpads which were originally with Windows 7 Pro via downgrade rights from Windows 8/8.1/10?

Hiya and welcome to Tech Support Guy

Are you still having this problem? If so, can you post a fresh HijackThis log, using the following link, as you have an outdated version:

Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
Click on Install.
It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.
