T440S Windows 8.1 64-bit Thinkpad Mouse tab missin...

Q: T440S Windows 8.1 64-bit Thinkpad Mouse tab missin...

In the past, I have customized my Trackpoint/Touchpad/mouse advanced settings via the Control Panel/Mouse/Thinkpad tab. Sometime recently, that tab has disappeared and my customization is gone. I've tried everything that I can think of to get that tab back, but nothing works. I have: * Verified that my BIOS is set to enable the Trackpoint and pad.* Uninstalled and reinstalled the Synaptics device driver, version 18.0.7.109, plus rebooted.* Run Lenovo System Update and installed all relevant driver updates.* Tried to install the Synaptics Touchpad Firmware for Windows 732/764/864/B64, but I get "Reflash cannot find firmware updates for the devices on this system". Any advice?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

i've got a T440s that was upgraded to windows 10 about 6 months ago. after installing a new brother printer yesterday, the machine won't boot any more; it just goes directly to automatic repair, then diagnostics, neither of which help. i tried several system restore points, but sr always fails telling me it can't copy the registry. i ran the lenovo hardware diagnostics which fails in the targeted read test of the hard drive with bad sectors. i am backing up all the data (which is on the solid-state drive ?) manually from the cli prompt (that still works) before i do anything else. next planned step is to run the bad sectors tool). i'm wondering if the bad sectors are where the registry (or its backup) is stored, and if so, then will "fixing" the bad sectors destroy the registry to the point where i need to do a refresh. this is the first time i've dealt with a system with a hybrid drive (ssd for start-up & os, hd for storage. since it was originally a windows 8.1 machine will running the refresh put back windows 10, and if so, will it know where to write the refreshed os files to the ssd and hd? all suggestions appreciated.

First off, I am an Electronics Technician by trade.  I have 25 years of experience with all kinds of electronics.  This one has me scratching my head.  This all  started because I had an issue with my touchpad so I changed it out.  During the process I removed all power including, power cord, external battery and internal battery.  Replaced the mouse pad and put everything back together.  When I went to power it up I got no response.  Here are the things I have tried. 1. Hold the power button for a minute.  Tap it 10 times then hold anothe minute.2. Remove all batteries and press the power button for 1 minute.3. Remove all batteries and the RAM module and press the power button.4. Press the reset button through the cover on the back of the machine.   5. Lastly I disconnected the CMOS batter along with all other power.  The last step actually let me me boot up my machine and everything was working like normal.  I was happy I had fixed the problem, but I didn't.  Once I shut down the machine it still will not power back up.  I have to disconnect the CMOS battery again in order for me to powe up the machine.  Once the machine comes back I updated the BIOS to the latest version and that didn't help either.  I am stumped!  Any advice that anyone can give me is greatly appreciated.

A:Thinkpad T440s won't power up

It sounds like the power button.  Make sure the little cable is inserted all the way and is straight.  Also, the little board with the actual button might not be mounted correctly.

Everything was working perfectly fine on my T440s with Windows 10 Pro, I am not sure what caused the issue, May be a driver upgrade touchpad is no more working. I suspect that it's not a hardware issue because button clicks works and scrolling in web pages works. The Driver version which I do have currently installed is 19.0.17.115 from Synaptics.  If I open the mouse properties I can change settings for TrackPoint but TrackPad options are grayed out. Can't make any changes.  I tried different drivers from Lenovo, Reinstalled Windows 10, Tried Resetting Windows 10 and Reinstalled drivers but nothing works. I would like to hear from any T440s owners which version of driver they use and if everything is well with Windows 10. I am thinking of making some modifications in the registry to get it back to work.  Any help ?? Thanks in advance!!

Hi you guys!I would like to excuse my bad English in advance. This happened like three days ago. Regular reboot. No forced updates or any installation, just an ordinary reboot. But then, all of a sudden, I couldn't work my ass out of the boot screen. It doesn't go in to loop either, just standing there, acting like a d*ck. I've tried ALL F-buttons but none has worked at all. But if I FN-lock them, I can change the brightness and that kind of stuff - SO, it's responding, but nothing more nothing less. And because I can't choose different boot, neither go into BIOS, I feel kinda f-ed (did my motherboard actually brick it self?!)Tried so far: BIOS battery, int+ext batterypack, w/ and w/o AC adapter, disconnected the harddrive, disconnected the RAM. And you know what? The same screen. ALL of the times.Any suggestions? Try to recover bad sectors (if any) in another computer? I would love to have USB>S-ATA right now, but I'm going to use it ONCE, so that's out of question.Kthxbye, love <888

I have recently purchased a 29" ultrawide LG monitor, with a 21:9 aspect ratio. When I plug it in, it recommends a 2560x1080 screen resolution. I was disappointed as the display settings on my thinkpad only go up to a 1960x1080 resolution.  Is there any way to achieve the correct resolution? I am currently connecting to the monitor using the dual DVI-D cable that came with the monitor.  I am wondering if there is a driver update that will support this, or a change in connection method? Thank you To update:  I am now connected via an HDMI/Display port cable instead of the DVI cable. This has not given me the option to increase my screen resolution in my display settings.

FYI - After much research and consultation I have fixed it. Turns out I needed to update my Intel HD Graphics Driver to the latest version which supports a 2560x1080 resolution. I also purchased the HDMI/Display port cable which didn't solve the problem but probably helps with quality.

Hey all, Recently I've been having problems with my T440s ThinkPad not turning on. The first time this happened, I took out the internal battery and it worked! I'll run through what I have tried unplugging and plugging back in the internal batteryholding the power button for 60 seconds to discharge itpressing the emergency reset buttonremoving the RAM and placing the RAM back I have done all of these things multiple times except I only reinserted the RAM once. Oddly enough, when the internal battery is unplugged and I plug the AC adpater into the machine, the power LED flashes 3 times. I disabled the trackpad in the bios just becuase it is so horrible and I just use the trackpoint. At one point it even clicked in the right places to change my desktop background. I took a video of it happening on my phone and if you can't tell what I'm doing all I am doing is slowly moving the trackpoint and with every move it goes psycho. yes I have tried many many driver versions. https://youtu.be/CU4lCh05FVM

Did you notice any 'balloon' windows mention you are logged into a 'temporary' profile? If so, make sure your network cables/card is securely attached, restart, and try again. You might find your profile by typing this into your address bar in file explorer: C:\Users -and then looking through the correct user account for the desktop.
See picture for more detail:
Or you might be able to find what you're looking for by browsing in a folder called windows.old if you do in fact have it somewhere in your C: drive.

Hi,

My windows failed to load b/c a critical system driver is missing or corrupt.

File: windows/system32/Drivers/gjofl.sys

Status: 0xc0000225

Prior to this, I had received some sort of virus that microsoft security essentials claimed to quarantine. I also ran malware bytes. After the scans, my computer accidentally became unplugged and died (the battery is shot). After trying to restart, I received the error msg.

I have tried booting up in safe mode and it doesn't work.

I also ran diagnostics -- the only msg I received was: "diagnostics not found on utility partition". I have no idea what that means.

I am being prompted to insert my installation disc to repair my comp, but windows was preinstalled so I don't have that option.

Please help!

A:Windows failed to start b/c critical driver is missin or corrupt

I dont know the answer, but I have a suspicion, that maybe, that driver has something to do with the virus. I googled the driver, nothing. I looked at my computers drivers (cmd prompt and type driverquery) and I do not have it.

Hello I've got T440s (20AQ004URT) and I want to connect it to my Sony Bravia TV (Miracast certified) wirelessly.I've made clean Windows 10 installation. At this point WiDi connection works 8 times out of 10. Then, Windows automatically installs necessary drivers (for touchpad, graphics, etc.). At this point I could hardly get WiDi working, it starts to connect to my TV and then just fails. So, I went to Intel forum and found out that I should install latest drivers from Intel (graphics, networking and Intel WiDi Pro software). I have installed all that stuff, but nothing changed. My hardware seems to be compatible with Intel WiDi Pro, as I could install necessary software. Also, my antivirus/firewall is disabled. But I still can't get WiDi working - laptop sees my TV, it starts to connect, my TV shows connection, but then it fails.  Please, help me resolve this issue.

I've tried 4 different mice on this laptop, as I prefer them greatly over the eraser head and touch pad, and none of them will connect.

1 is a Targus, wired mouse that worked last week, and suddenly does not anymore, and the other 3 are Microsoft wireless laser and optical mice. All of them use a USB to plug in, as my laptio doesn't have any of the circular mouse ports.

I've tried changing the batteries, finding software from Microsoft, Control Panel Hardware-Adding, Troubleshooting, Rebooting, Disconnecting and Re-Connecting, and now I'm all out of ideas.

The wireless mice has receivers that keep a steady green light, but the mouse itself won't budge.

http://tinyurl.com/mouse1 is the 1st wireless mouse, where the receiver will keep a constant green light and the mouse won't respond.

http://tinyurl.com/mouse2 is the 2nd wireless, where the receiver will blink green when i hold down the butotn, but will stop once i let go, and I have tried to oress the connect button but that won't do it. The red laser on the bottom stays lit, but it simply won't go anywhere.

http://tinyurl.com/mouse3 is the new, fresh out of the box wired mouse that worked for several days, but now will not work. I plug it in, the laser comes up underneath the mouse and stays on, but the cursor will not move. I tested it on another laptop where it worked just fine. I'm not sure where on the computer I should be looking to find how to fix this.

A:USB Mouse Not Responding to ThinkPad

First info we need is which model of thinkpad. USB 1.1 or USB 2.0
Do other USB devices work?
Does a full size logitech usb mouse or Microsoft USB mouse work. The Targus has always been a trouble-prone mouse with many reported failures, as have some other "miniature mouse" products sold for laptops.
Have you tried cleaning the USB ports with called air, a Q-Tip and 90% alcohol?

Some Thinkpads had a problem with solder failure on some models, requiring a replacement by IBM Lenovo.
Be sure all your USB devices are enabled in the Device Manager of System in the Control Panel... and that none of them have yellow or red flags.

Hello,

That is an unusual problem, if they have been deleted, then some recovery software is on order before something writes over them. having said that, installing the recovery software may write over the pictures you are trying to save.
when you get your new system you can set the drive as a slave and run recovery software.

Even with updating the driver, they seldom work. I found that opening the properties page in device manager makes it work for about 10 seconds, then it cuts out. Even then, it only allows the touchpad to function for the time, leaving the trackpoint useless. That doesn't matter to me, since I can use the USB mouse when I'm in the house. It just would be nice to rely on the touchpad when I need it!

Then a couple months later, the keyboard cuts out. Not completely, mind you... It works during POST, it works when it asks you to choose OS (I dual booted for 2k and XP), and most of the time it works for me to input my password into the user select screen of WinXP. The cutting out of the KB is completely random, though I've noticed that it's more frequent to cut out when loading IE or Firefox too soon after booting up, though it is not limited to the loading of those programs. Some times, it will get past POST and OS selection, but not work to enter the password.

The IBM troubleshooting page has been useless. All they want to say is that the KB is shot, but that's only because the only options is "The keyboard does not work at all!", which is not the case. I am typing this on the laptop in question as we speak, so obviously it works.

My only thought is t... Read more

A:IBM Thinkpad R40 keyboard/mouse issues

I figured nobody would have any input on this one... it doesn't make much sense to me either...

If I could, I'd just buy a USB KB, but alas I can't afford a USB hub + KB (only have 1 USB port)

*sighs*

((Sorry if this is in the wrong topic. I'm very new to this.)) So about a few hours earlier I spilt some water on the top part of my keyboard - so I turned it off, took out everything plugged in to it such as the mouse, charger and battery and i left it open to dry. I returned an hour later to find that my L button didn't work as well as it did earlier (it didn't appear as much when pressed.) and at times it would consistently spam the number 9 when it wasn't even being pressed. I got someone to help me, and they blew into the keys and got rid of the dust underneath. So now I log on again, and now here's the strangest part: I have Ubuntu 17.04, and it made the same sound it makes when you experience a 'fan error' on your computer - if you get a fan error, you hear a beeping sound and your computer shuts down again, for me, it just continues its normal startup. When I get to my login screen, none of my keys work at all now, and neither does part of my wired mouse (I can move it, but I can't click.) Which I think is strange because it wasn't even near the water spillage in the first place and only the TOP part of my keyboard was covered with water, yet other parts are affected by this. Do you think I've just been an idiot and accidentally fried my entire keyboard, or could this be something more malicious? Or maybe I should just get a new computer? Please help! I really need to get my candidate notebook and my assignment finished by June, and if I can't log on by then I'll lose... Read more

Just a few minutes ago my friends mouse stopped working. I have read if you go into devices, or control panel, you can get to a Mouse icon and see if the mousepad is disabled, wich is most likely the case. We dont have a USB mouse or wireless mouse with us.
My friend is staying with us for a week so she cant go buy one. Is there anyway to access the control panel with out the mouse? She doesnt have a start button so I have no idea what to press

I just received my P50 today. I was very excited to see how fast it would be, especially with the SSD, but turns out it has occasional stutter in the mouse pointer and keyboard. It always happens when logging in, and can happen randomly at other times. Here are what I believe are the relevant specs: series: P50 NVQ1 2G i7-6700HQpointing device: 3+3BCP FPR NoCSWindows 10 Pro 64display: P50 FHD NT 2D MC NoCS WLWW -- 15.6 FHD IPS Non-Touchhard drive: 256GB SSD SATA3 OPAL2NVDIA Quadro M1000M 2GB16GB DDR4 2133 SoDIMMIntel Core i7-6700HQ MB

Something absolubtely bizarre is happening with my mouse, and despite my efforts, I can't find any posts on google that match my issue.

About a month ago I spilled some coffee on my laptop. The laptop's built in mouse buttons stopped working shortly afterwards. I took my computer into the repair shop and had them install a brand new touchpad and mouse button set. Everything worked fine up until a couple of days ago.

First, my left click stopped working (on the laptop track pad). The next day, the right click stopped working. I could still left click using the touch pad and right click via Shift + F10. The following day I could no longer left click using the touchpad. I brought home a USB mouse today and plugged it in. The USB mouse worked great for a couple of hours, and then started failing. It will select some objects, and not others. It will left click for a few minutes, and then stop working all together. It will allow me to open new tabs in a brower, but not select other open tabs or the bar where you enter web addresses. It won't select anything off the task bar, including the windows start menu.

So far, I have uninstalled the computer's mouse drivers and re-installed them. I've rebooted several times. I've tried turning on the functionality that allows you to use your keyboard as a mouse, but that didn't work. I've tried different USB ports for the external mouse. I downloaded Lenovo's Solution Center tool and analyzed a... Read more

Upgrading from Windows 8.1 (touch working) to Windows 10 I lost touch functionality. I've tried replacing the LCD myself after cracking the first one just to verify the ribbons were connected behind the LCD assembly (factory tape/glue is holding them down). I haven't tried ordering the Windows 8.1 Restore CDs and rolling back. I can confirm it's not a hardware issue. I'm guessing it's firmware related. Similar to the Yoga touch problems Lenovo's been having and those users upgrading to Windows 10. Checking the forums it looks like updates have been hit or miss. I've tried downloading Windows Tab Installer Package, the Yoga LCD Firmware Updates (unable to pass hidident.exe to update), downloading the SCCM package and looking for any type of installer and none's available. Leaning towards a firmware incompatibility. Can anyone at Lenovo confirm this for me? I can understand the 20AQ had a limited run compared to 20AR (non touch) and the Yoga Series. Still it'd be nice to have someone confirm. It's a shame the laptop is only a few years old. If there's a beta firmware package for the touch digitizer I'd be happy to try. Intermittent response would be better than none. Thanks all,

For some reason these 2 models will image just fine when looking at the TS in SCCM 2012 10. Once the computer is rebooted though it goes right into recovery mode and needs the key entered. Nothing stands out in event viewer. I am looking for some guidance on where I can look for a solution on this.
