Firefox text blurs, Windows updates won't update, firefox restarts my pc.etc

Q: Firefox text blurs, Windows updates won't update, firefox restarts my pc.etc

I have been trying to find help from different compter help forums but it seems that I can not get any help with my problems. I was told to just reformat my pc. Which I may end up doing but want to make sure that is the last resort type thing. Since my warrenty for this pc has expired so I am not sure if I am able to receive any of the disks that I need for free or cheap. So I can reformat my pc.Anyways I want to list my problems here. I do not think this is a maleware issue as I have already been through all the clean ups. It seems that my pc is free of viruses and spyware. Though maybe something is hidden in my pc which I can not find.

Either way here is the main issues that is going on with my computer which I really would like help on. Let's begin with the windows update. I have 2 windows update that wants me to update I.E. to it's latest version. However, I am unable to do that for some reason. The error it gives me is it failed to update. I have tried uinstalling I.e. but it won't allow me to. I have tired reinstalling it but it won't allow me to. I have tried deleting it from the main directly but that did not work. I do not use I.e. but the fact that my pc has to restart to update this is getting a bit annoying. So I would like a way to fix this if possible. Once again I already tried uinstalling it, hiding i.e update, and reinstalling i.e. Nothing seems to work.

The second problem I have is with firefox. The text in firefox blurs out sometimes. I have no clue why but it may be with some plug ins that are stuck in firefox. I am unable to remove those as they have no removal next to the plug ins. I tried a clean install but reseting firefox and that does not help. I could use another browser but I prefer not to as this text was fixed before. I just do not remember how I did it. Another problem with firefox is that it occassonally restarts my pc out of no where. I think it has to do with flash or something. Since it seems whenever i go watch videos, slide shows, or any website that has flash on it. It restarts my whole pc. This only happens on firefox as I tried other browsers and it doesn't do that.

My final problem which is the least of the issues going on. If this is unable to fix that's not biggy as I have nothing important with these folders. The problem is that my documents, videos, and music folders do not open. It gives me a error stating that the folders have been missing and are safe to be deleted.  Example: Musiclibrary-MS is no longer working. The library can be saftly deleted from the computer. The folders that are included will not be affected. How do i fix this if possible.

Thank you all so much and looking forward to some help here. in worse case Ill just reformat my pc but I want that to be the very last solution.

Preferred Solution: Firefox text blurs, Windows updates won't update, firefox restarts my pc.etc

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

If it does come to reloading the system you can borrow a copy of Vista from friend, unfortunately MS does not supply any ISO's on Digital River.  One very important thing you must use the same version of Vista, also look over the computers box for Microsoft COA sticker with the serial number on it you must have that.  Get the info ahead of time, right my computer it will show your version. It is possible that you may not have to go through that if the machine has a recovery partition, you would need to look on the makers site.

Now all that being said I feel you do in fact have a bug and need some help from the guys up here!

This thread is currently "under construction", and will be edited for the remainder of today.   Please excuse any blank spaces or crossed-out "placeholders" for items expected to be announced.

Today is Microsoft Tuesday --- the SECOND Tuesday of the month --- on which Microsoft is expected to release its monthly cycle of Windows security updates.   Based on previous history, they should become available at 1 P.M. [USA - Eastern STANDARD Time]
Reminder that there is a new procedure:   Windows Update for consumer PCs will offer a [single] security monthly quality update (also known as the "monthly rollup") that will contain all new security fixes for a month... plus fixes from all previous monthly rollups.
A rollup is simply multiple patches rolled together into a single update. These rollups will replace individual patches . Each monthly rollup will supersede the previous month's rollup. The ultimate goal is for these monthly rollups to become fully cumulative, which will happen as the team adds patches released in the past, so users need only to install the latest single rollup.
For more information, see http://www.zdnet.com/article/microsoft-issues-more-guidance-for-admins-ahead-of-first-monthly-windows-patch-rollups/

Adobe Flash has released version 24.0.0.186
In today's scheduled release, we've updated Flash Player and AIR with important bug fixes, security updates, and new features.
These updates address critical vulnerabilities that could potentially allow an attacker to take control of the affected system.
Adobe is aware of a report that an exploit for CVE-2016-7892 exists in the wild, and is being used in limited, targeted attacks against users running Internet Explorer (32-bit) on Windows --- meaning today's patch is "urgent".

i'm not sure if this should be in the 'browsers' or 'customisation' part of forums, but anyway...

i have a hi-res monitor but poor eyes, so i've set a custom windows text-size of 125% to help me read on-screen text easier. so things like the start-menu text and icons get bigger etc.

however, it also seems to affect firefox's webpage rendering. other browsers (ie8 and chrome) respect the 125% for UI menus and whatnot, but don't affect the text within a webpage, this gets rendered according to the css. however, firefox seems to read the css fontsize, then adds a bit to it, not always 25%.

i'm designing a website, and it's annoying that all the text looks bigger in firefox.

how do i make firefox obey the css and ignore windows custom dpi settings for webpage content? i'm using 3.6.13 if it makes any difference.

i know i could just revert to normal 100% dpi, but i like the big UI text - i find it much easier to read, with less strain on the eyes after a long day's computing. i just want all my browsers to display the page text according to the css.

A:firefox and custom windows text size

Hello there, Mickey!

How about you just zoom in the text in Firefox with "CTRL +" that way you could only look the fonts to look bigger

Or you could try this in the attachment!

It's for Firefox to bypass the website fonts and stuff and to show them in the font you like, the size you like

Try that and report back, please

I've tried all kinds of things to fix this and can't figure it out and haven't seen the issues anywhere else.

I have attached a screen grab of the error I am getting.

Basically their is a giant exclamation point inside a yellow shield. The Top Line of text says:

#elementModuleHeaderTex#

Then in smaller font underneath that: #actionCustominsta

Then under that in same font and size: #actionCustominsta

The box you usually hit to install updates is but there is no text in it. If I hit it the yellow shield becomes a red one with an X in it. I've tried running the FixIt Tool from Windows and it does nothing. It says it's fixed things but nothing happens.

Can anyone look at the attachment and give me a clue ?

Thanks

Now you don`t have to go through Internet Explorer to download Windows updates....have tried on three different computers and works well.....so if you were hanging on to IE just to get updates now there is NO need to! http://windowsupdate.62nds.com/

A:Windows updates through Firefox

By any chance, did you throw it up on a test box first to see exactly what it did (ie, doesn't open any backdoors, etc)?

By my twisted logic, part of the security issues with IE are the ActiveX components, and you need ActiveX to be able to download updates....so does the plug in just make it possible for Firefox to use ActiveX? Which then in turn makes it so ActiveX can be abused through Firefox...

Actually, I don't have a clue if it works that way at all... might be fun to look at though.

HP Quad core machine with 4 Gbytes DDR 667 RAM, running 32-bit Win7 Professional.  GT9500 video card and a poor-quality power supply.

The primary problem is that when I run Windows Updates, and am presented with a choice to "automatically" download and install the presented updates "Important" and "Optional", if I simply press the "Install Updates" button, everything seems to work normally.  Some updates download and install, but apparantly some do not, because if I press either or the updates (Important, or Optional), Windows Updates freezes, Explorer.exe crashes, restarts, all the running programs appear just like they were before the restart and Windows Updates is closed.

This will repeat infinitely.  Every time I click either "Important" or "Optional", Explorer restarts.

I run every diagnostic I can think of.
Ran sfc /scannow and it seems to close normally indicating that the files are all legit, but I have not actually seen the log to confirm this.  I've run numerous rootkit detection utilities, Farbar, Hijack this, etc... Autoruns and cannot find any kind of entry point.  Ran Hitman Pro, Eset online scanner, Housecall online scanner and other than a few minor "PUP"s, no significant malware has been found.

This whole thing started when I tried to install Visual Studio Community Edition 2013 (the free one, found online), and it refused to install properly despite numerous repairs and reinstalls.  A standalone copy ... Read more

Good evening to all.

Last year I decided to use Firefoxe and say goodbye to IE6, after disabling everything to do with IE6 I soon realized than I could not get Windows Updates nor could I access MSN Hotmail through MSN 7.5. I went on to search the web and found useless tips and registry fixes that did not worked and eventually gave up and enabled IE6 to correct the problems.

I since upgraded to Firefox 2.04, all ok, MSN 8.1 with the ?MSN Plus? extension, all ok there too, but today I found the courage to upgrade to IE7. Now I?m in trouble... When I try to open my hotmails through MSN, It does use Firefox, but does not bring the Hotmail logging page. But the cherry is that when I click on Windows update in the security center, it opens a blank page with IE7 and another page open with Firefox telling me that I should upgrade IE, go to the MS Download Center or better enable Automatic Updates.

I tried all these and others, the only fix so far that works, is to roll back to IE6. I think I should bow in shame and admit defeat before I do any more damage to my OS. I should have known better not to mess with Regedit and Internet settings? I would be really grateful if you could point me in the right direction in order to fix my mess.

Kind Regards

Zatox

Hi everyone, I am sure it's not only my problem, and someone already asked for soluton. ...

After Windows 7 runs its updates I can not load Firefox at all. What I do is - a) system restore to the day prior to Windows updates and if this doesn't help b) uninstall and reinstall FF.

I also wonder: could Norton360 cause the problem. What happened today was Windows enforced its updates, then FF was loading extremely slow, and then stopped loading. Then I ran Live Update on Norton. No luck. I just reinstalled Firefox a few minutes ago. Opens in seconds. Now, I am OK until the next W. updates.

What is the solution? Your recommendation? It drives me nuts when FF is dead. It's not just slow, it's totally dead. And by the Murphy's Law I have a lot to do on my PC.

Thanks, guys. Appreciate any tip, advice in advance.

A:Firefox does not open after Windows updates

Could be a long shot, but perhaps you can try disabling any Firefox add-ons you're using, before updating Windows, to try and narrow down which (if any) could be causing the problem.

Maybe even as you said, an incompatibility or other issue with Norton 360 and Firefox that rears its ugly heading during/after updating Windows.

Hi all,

I experienced a couple of Firefox freezes (seems to be somehow fixed now), the blocking of microsoft.com and other pages (kaspersky.com, ...), as well as a blocking of windows update and some other anti-virus software updates.

As the most specific (and totally harmless) feature I have the starting page of IExplore and Firefox being reset to "deutsche-bank.de" by the malware. (The problems started while being in Germany).

I installed and ran a large number of anti-virus programs and tools, but did not find much except minor cookie and tracking issues. Some of the tools were able to update to the last definition packages, some weren't.

Please find the log below.

Any input is appreciated.

Thank you!

Hi. My computer is running Windows XP, I use AVG (free), just upgraded to v9 on 10/26/09. I also use Ad-Aware. Around Oct 25 I started seeing pop-up ads while browsing in Firefox. I ran AVG, full scan, and it detected some malware -- Vundo.IG and SHeur2.BODT. However, it didn't seem to clean it completely.

I downloaded the AVG upgrade, re-ran full scan, updated my Ad-Aware, ran that as well. AVG detects Vundo, but then it requires me to reboot the computer, and AVG just detects it again and starts the cycle over.

I get an error now whenever I restart the computer. (Windows can't find logon.exe). Also, there is an error titled RUNDLL. Message states: Error loading c:\windows\system32\vafiyene.dll. The specified module could not be found. OK.

Now when I try to open FireFox it either won't open, or else it closes out and then Internet Explorer launches with ads.

I also tried to download and run the Windows spyware removal tool, but my automatic windows updates setting keeps reverting to disabled, so i can't run that.

I share my computer with my daughter, and the only thing she could think of is that she had just downloaded the latest iTunes and Quicktime update. Can't think of anything else unusual just prior to infection.

I appreciate any ideas you can offer for cleaning this mess off of my PC. Thanks in advance for your help.

Suddenly, if I try to manually download a Windows update, the Firefox download dialogue will not open and download the update.  I am using this one as an example:

These downloads always worked before with Firefox.

The above download works fine with Safari.

I have tried uninstalling Firefox completely, and reinstalling, and it still will not download.

Is there a way to make it work again?

Thanks.

FireFox.. Is the best as we all know. But i was just wondering if Windows Update filled an security holes or if the FireFox updater did that.

A:FireFox--Does Windows Update do anything for it?

Any updates via Firefox is solely for the Firefox browser. Windows is a Microsoft product and only updates that program. The developers at Firefox continue to update any security breaches and are usually released as updates. I always check the dates of the ver 1.0 release and install the most up to date.

Good Day All

I have Windows 8 Pro, Firefox 23.0.1.

Firefox frequently cannot connect to some websites, also some sites Flash videos will not work. I have tried disabling Hardware Acceleration and Launching FF in Safe mode and Launched IE10.0.1 to test but the issue persists, so I think it may be W8 and not the browsers.

In Firefox the Error I receive is:

"Unable to connect"
"Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at www.gecrbcredit.com."

In IE10 the Error I receive is:

"This page can't be displayed"

GEMONEY is obviously one of the sites that has not worked since I started using W8 about 2 weeks ago.

I had thought it was due to the Security of HTTPS but other sites using HTTPS do not have the same issue.

I also tried to connect via IP address with this result:

Pinging GEMONEY [216.74.188.139] with 32 bytes of data:
General failure.
General failure.

General failure.

Ping statistics for 216.74.188.139:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss),
Any Input is appreciated, thank you!

Hello, this forum has always been of major assistance in helping me with various computer issues, and was wondering if someone here could again be of assistance. I was torn between posting this here on in the Windows XP help section, but from what I gathered it may potentially be an attack on my computer and I decided not to take the chance.

Today, I discovered some odd temporary files created within C:\Documents and Settings\(My Name)\Local Settings\temp that I had no idea where they came from. All were 0kb, and here are the date and time they were created.

9g02FD.tmp - Today, April 21, 2010, 2:09:08 PM

I decided that no good could come from whatever they might have been, and used Spybot's file shredder to promptly remove them.

From there I went to my prefetch folder and had a look at the files modified today to see if I could trace the files back to one program. The only program running near the times was wuauclt.exe (The windows updater) running at 2:05 PM. Searching all files modified on that date, I found files in the Software Distribution folder (edb.chk and such) modified at about 2:09 to 2:10 and it seemed to fit... Read more

I already have HiJackThis installed, so i'm ready to send you what you need.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

As no logs have been posted, I am shifting this topic from the specialized HiJack This forum to the Am I Infected forum.==>PLEASE DO NOT NOW POST LOGS<== unless a log is specifically requested.I run Zone Alarms antivirus usually and have Avast running behind it.I do not recommend that you have more than one anti virus product installed and running on your computer at a time. The reason for this is that if both products have their automatic (Real-Time) protection switched on, then those products which do not encrypt the virus strings within them can cause other anti virus products to cause "false alarms". It can also lead to a clash as both products fight for access to files which are opened again this is the resident/automatic protection. In general terms, the two programs may conflict and cause:1) False Alarms: When the anti virus software tells you that your PC has a virus when it actually doesn't.2) System Performance Problems: Your system may lock up due to both products attempting to access the same file at the same time.Further, when the two programs are fighting to scan the same file, other bad files may jump aboard during that time. In other words, having more than one AV product on board can increase your risk of infection. Please uninstall one of the two antivirus programs.Did you experience any redirections or pop-ups before Firefox failed to connect? My PC is currently running Windows 2000 (yes, it's ghetto, but it's been stable for me). Not too long ago, someone suggested to me to update it to SP4. Since then, I have not done any further updates.

Yesterday evening, for some reason, I decided to see what kind of stuff I needed to update. I did the whole Windows Update thing from the windows menu. I found that I had 77 updates for Windows 2000. I d/led and installed them all and restarted the computer. Now, my Internet and Firefox don't seem to work properly. What I mean is that I'm getting "The page cannot be displayed" page on IE or "Address Not Found" page on Firefox when I try to load websites, such as Facebook or Yahoo, etc.. Only when I hit refresh button about half a dozen times, will I actually get to the website. This has also affected my booting of MSN, as I would get some error msg with that too.

I've restarted the computer couple times already with no improvement. I've checked my Internet connection already as well. There are no problems with that whatsoever (b/c my brother's computer on the same connection is working properly). Someone suggested to me on the Windows 2000 forum to use the "PageCannotBeDisplayed" program, but I'm hesitant to use some external program, as some reviews say it's not helpful. I would like to stress that prior to the Windows 2000 Update, I had no problems with IE or Firefox. Is there a way to reverse the upd... Read more

You mean the Blue text?

What version of FireFox is this, the Desktop Program or the Tile version, if there is one?

This bad text rendering was a huge issue in IE 10 and 11, and on Tile Browsers.

Have you run your Cleartype tool, try that and also "Calibrate Color" in the Control Panel/Displays area. It looks like your Blue component it too strong, if you run the colour calibration you can back that off a little bit.

A few days ago, I made this page text bigger (View, Text Size, +Increase) and it worked fine... Now I can't figure out what went wrong on this page. Either I shrink the text too small or I have to scroll sideways to read it, what a pain. I just don't know did I touch a "column width" type setting by accident for this page? I cleared history and cache to no avail. I think it is a setting somewhere. I loaded the same page up through IE and I could see it fine, and resize text fine. hello i wanted to change my firefox search box text into something like Search and colorize it with white. hiding the dropmaker would also be a good option. firstly i wanted it to look something like the explorer search box. any help will be greatly appreciated. see picture below.

A:firefox search text???

To change the text that shows in the search box, you would have to change it for each search engine individually. For the default search engines look here:

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\searchplugins

Edit the ShortName in the .xml files as (using bing.xml for example): "<ShortName>Bing</ShortName>" to "<ShortName>Search</ShortName>"

Then delete the file: C:\Users\-username-\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<your profile id>.default\search.json

Now run Firefox. The "search.json" file is recreated with the changes.
If you use Classic or Basic themes, the searchbox background color is the "Window" color in advanced color settings, but it looks like you're not using those themes, so hunt the web for the userChrome.css tweak for this - I couldn't find it quickly and don't need it so I'll leave it to you.

It shouldn't. Once it's set, it should stick until you do something to change it.
