HP pavilion x2 detachable HDMI problem

Q: HP pavilion x2 detachable HDMI problem

I have an HP Pavilion x2 detachable running Windows 10 64bit. Until recently, I was able to connect a second monitor through the HDMI port and it was automatically recognized. Since a couple of weeks the second monitor cannot be recognized any more. I even tried to connect my TV set but nothing happened. There is no problem with the cable. Also all drivers seem to be up to date. Any ideas what could I do ? Thanks in advance!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I have an HP Paviion x2 detachable device with two ports - USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 type C. The charger is connected to the last port. A. My question is, due to the lack of more ports, is it possible to connect a USB 3.0 type C hub to the USB 3.0 port (instead of the charger)?B. If yes, will it be still possible to charge the computer via the hub?  C. Assuming that it is a "Yes" for question A, which hubs are recommended? Best Regards,Tal Barak.

Hello all, I am trying to find a good stylus that will work for my sister's pavilion 10 x2. the model number is 10-N113DX. when i go to settings>system>about it states "Pen and touch support with 10 touch points". i didnt realize how many different types of active stylus/pens there were until i started looking into getting  one., and it turns out there are several different versions of the "Pavilion 10 x2". my sister is going off to school with this computer and needs a stylus similar to the HP active stylus for writing music/drawing. does anyone know of a stylus that will work or if the HP active stylus will work with this computer? any help would be appreciated!

Hi this is my first post. Had this 2 in one for about a week, replacing a 4 year old acer aspire one netbook D270 which had upgraded SSD and over 8 hr battery life. I dropped it and cracked the screen but it was a great little device I used all the time. There is a lot to like with this unit, but a few things are a little fustrating. 1) Lost thunderbird and opera from taskbar for no apparent reason. I pin something I expect it to stay.2) I keep on deleting the HP help from taskbar as it keeps on showing a massive ? on the task bar but no new info, but afrer reboot its back showing help but nothing new. I dont want it.3) Inconsistent when I undock screen, I loose all input on the touch screen? Dock it back all is fine. This cant be right.4) Open some webpages no touch screen?.5)  I Keep on loosing SD card, even during playing music, suddenly stops and no SD. Pop it out and it makes unmounts noise, pop it back in all is fine for a short time like 2 songs then stops again saying file can not be found. Replaced the SD card and same issues. Are these known issues or something with my device. Jas

Last night turned on to find it saying it was installing updates. Since then when turned on freezes but won't let me open or fix anything. Keep having to turn it off and on. No joy. Sometimes opens a blue screen. Message reads 'windows hasn't loaded correctly'. Option to reset won't work as says I need additional free space on the drive but can't open drive to do so. Start up repair can't diagnose a problem. Won't let me perform a system restore and won't let me create a restore point. Don't have a disc to use. Cannot open files or access internet on desktop. Completely stuck. Please help.

I have just bought this lkaptop and the hardware is nice, but I do not want to run Windows. Simple, I thought, as it's a PC, I'll just install Ubuntu. Well, the boot from USB is UEFI and that is a bit of a pain to set up, and I can't get it to work. The Ubuntu 14 install disk I burnt is an EFI boot CD and it simply fails to boot. Using the F9 option I get aBoot device failed message in white text on a blue screen. When I try to boot through the boot menus I get a missing file at \ubuntu\winboot\. I have just created a Windows recovery disk and that seems to boot fine. It looks like the BIOS/UEFI is set up to only allow Windows to boot. I've bought a USB DVD drive and failed to boot from that, also two memory sticks and a HDD. So, questions, before I put the laptop in the bin: 1. Has anyone else got Linux onto this device and if so what image and procedure did you use to get the install to work? 2 Is there a way to get legacy mode booting set up in the BIOS (The BIOS mentions legacy support in the screens but its not there).  Andrew

It seems that the hp x2 has a 32 bit uefi. So you'll need a 32bit uefi boot loader. Most distros I've seen just ship the 64 bit bootloader. There's a guy at debian who is trying to support this kind of thing - He's working on a netinst image for deb8. The current image he's published so far boots, but I can't get networking to work. Here's his blog (other good stuff there):http://blog.einval.com/debian/CDs Here's the deb image:http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/unofficial/efi-development/jessie-upload3.Hth /markus

My device is 3 months old and I recently updated the BIOS through the HP assistant and am now receiving an error message close to 'CMOS checksum value is invalid. System will reboot with default values. Please check BIOS to see if any changes have occured (as close as I can remember)' System then boots OK. I am wondering what is causing this. Is the battery already dying? This has now happened three times in a week and also the clock is reseting itself to 05:00 everytime.

I purchased my laptop on 11/6/15 from Best Buy. When it is plugged in, it works fine but the battery was not charging. Unfortunately for me, it is now 1 1/2 months out of warranty. I brought it into Best Buy to have the battery replaced and it was sent to their servicing center. I just received a call from them telling me that my issue is Not my battery but with something on the motherboard that controls how the battery charges and the entire board needs to be replaced and it is going to cost me just as much to replace it as I paid for my laptop. This is absolutely obsurd!! The laptop is only 13 months old and has never been mishandled. When making the decision to buy a new laptop, I chose HP because I had such good luck with my old one that was 10 years old. Has HP quality gone downhill? And on top of it all, when I went to submit a question about this to HP support, it comes up with my laptop being out of warranty since August 2016 which less than a 1 year warranty. Now Im left with the decision to repair my 13 month old laptop and still have no protection if something else breaks or buy a new one with protection for the same price.

My pavilion is not respoinding properly. 1 month ago, the laptop/tablet locked after a hardware issue and needed a bitlocker key to open it. After some time finding it and a few problems from microsoft, the laptop was in working order as of yesterday. However, the audio was missing (I assume that's why the laptop locked itself?? I'm not a large techy person!). As I could not restore the audio, I decided to do a reset with files still intact. This got to 44% and then came up with a response along the lines of; "Cannot reset due to an issue. Please try again later." This led me back to two options; revert back and load windows 10 or to retry. I retried a few more times with the same error message and two options. I'd decided after that not working, I'd try and revert back and reload windows 10. After this, the only thing my laptop now does is load the HP symbol, move to a black screen and repeat. I've tried hard resets and attempting to diagnose the problem with F2, yet this did not help at all as all 'passed' bar the audio which could not be detected. Any help would be great! Thanks.

A:HP Pavilion x2 Detachable black screen

Hi there @bfeliciano86,  Before I provide troubleshooting documentation, I would like to take a minute to welcome you to the HP Support Community, where you can ask questions, find solutions and get help from others! I will do my absolute best to help you resolve the issue you are having with the black screen on your HP Pavilion x2 Notebook PC.  Note: please make sure that the AC adapter cable is not plugged into a power strip, surge protector, or secondary power source. It should be directly into a wall outlet. Please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices, as these could cause some issues. As silly as it sounds, did you happen to try removing dust from the cooling areas in a notebook?Have you connected the Notebook to an external monitor or TV? If you remove the notebook battery, plug the AC power cable back into the notebook, then turn it on, does it power the Notebook? Do you have any beep codes or blinking LED lights? Have you done a BIOS reset?Have you tried performing a hard reset?Have you tried to see if you can test for hardware failures? If the computer is on, do you hear the fan running? If so, but the display remains blank, please see Computer Starts but Screen Remains Blank. If you require further assistance, I would be more than happy to help! I recently bought a HP x2 12-b017ca. Laptop works great and didn't have any issues until now. I ordered a HP Active Pen from HP which listed my computer as compatible. Once I received it, tried it, didn't work. So after some troubleshooting I called HP Support.  After spending 2+ hours of getting transfered alot and disconnected I eventually got a person that told me it wasn't compatible but it clearly states on the HP website it is. Therefore he told me to call another number to confirm if it was compatible.  During my time on hold? I was able to get the pen to work however it was very glitchy, skipping and sometimes it wouldn't recognize it at all. I tried calibrating the pen, checked for updates, etc. with no success. So call the number and they stated it was compatable and it sounded like this was a more common problem with this pen so I returned it.  I purchased a Dell Active pen, it works better than the HP but not great. Still glitchy and skipping. I'm not sure if there is something broken the laptop or just a poor design/bug which affects all units. The touch screen works great with no issues at all, even works flawlessly with my Adonit Jot Pro pen. Is there anything I can do my self (lose connection, update, etc.)? I prefer not to spend 2+ hours with phone support and if I have to send in I'm out a laptop for a month or more.

The next day, it started up just fine and I was able to sign on and use the machine, but later in the day the same thing happened - able to sign on but got a black screen. Since the failed Win 10 update, the computer is now unusable. Product Number is N3W80EQ#ABEBIOS version is F.04 (I downloaded BIOS version F.05 from the HP website but was unable to get a FreeDOS bootable disk to be recognised) I'm fairly sure there is a problem with the BIOS and UEFI boot. Hi, I am having issues with my micro SD card vanishing.  Purchased end of May and spend so many hours trying everything thinking it was me. I have never had any issues with my SD cards in either HTC one phone or a Acer aspire one, which I broke its screen in May reason for the purchase. My acer I pimped it with 250gb SSD and 2 GB and had no real issues, had enough space for most of my 36GB music and had a external USB HD for films and more music.  Now I am getting so fustrated trying to play a few albums form SD. Its gone from grove player, windows media player and file explorer. If I take the SD card out the unit plays the unmount sound, so its there but windows simply looses it. Had this laptop for about 4 months, only use it for writing using Word, we don't store photos, music etc.  All we have are word documents and the only things we installed are Bitdefender and Office. This laptop has a 30gb hard drive as standard but we bought the one from HP that also has an additional 1TB drive.  Despite telling the system to save and install all things to the larger drive, the smaller one is constantly getting full and not letting us do anything.  When we go in to storage and try to delete all the temp files (about 3gb) it just sits there and doesn't delete anything. Anyone else had this issue?  Or does anyone know how to free up the smaller drive and get it to use the bigger one?  Like I said before, everything is set up in the system options to save to the large drive.  Am I missing something?

Hi,Reconnect the HDMI cable and try the Windows key + P (that is projector mode)If that does not work then go to control panel-->sound and see if it is still shown as being recognized by your notebook. Which OS and what is your complete notebook product name/number?It is on the barcoded sticker on the bottom of your notebook.  Best regards, erico

Hello, This is a brand-new monitor (got it just today actually). Link to YouTube clip showing the problem As you can see from the clip that I uploaded to YouTube, whenever I press the ON button, after a few seconds a purple screen flashes quickly and then disappears. The monitor does NOT turn on. When the screen flashes the purple color, it does say that the "HDMI connection" is "active".  The monitor is connected to my mac air 2013 via HDMI. What is causing this problem? Is it the monitor or is it the connection? Could it be something wrong with my mac air itself? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

@bluedusk?, welcome to the forum. The problem is, HP does not provide Mac drivers for your monitor.  It will not work properly without them. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

I've noticed the back of the laptop heating up for the past year, and usually place the screen section on a USB-powered fan platform to reduce the heat. When I put it to "sleep" I then turn off the AC power. I've been able to run it without AC power for 2-4 hrs on numerous occasions. However, about a week ago when I tried to resume from "sleep" before turning on ACpower, the CPU suddenly turned off. At the time I was using an external USB modem which was plugged in. So I turned on the AC power, and restarted the laptop. That happened a few times, and at least twice I saw a brief message on screen saying the battery level was below 3%, so CPU was turning off. Usually in sleep mode battery storage would not drop below 93%. In the past week the battery has stopped charging. (Last night it said the battery level was 0%; all day today it shows 83%.) So I have to use the ACpower to keep the laptop running.HP Battery check today produced the following results:Warranty Type: 3Cycle count: 187 / 1000Manufacturer: 331CBattery Age: 780 daysSerial Number: 02255 2014/09/30Temperature: 36 °CDesign Capacity: 4580 mAhFull Charge Capacity: 3818 mAh (83%)Remaining Capacity: 3193 mAhCurrent: 0 mATerminal Voltage: 8254 mVDesign Voltage: 7600 mVCell Voltage 1: 4127 mVCell Voltage 2: 4127 mVCell Voltage 3: 0 mVCell Voltage 4: 0 mVStatus: 82AC Power: YesCT Number: 6EJHQ03WY7J48YFailure ID: MAHW60-000000-MFGH6K-C0E103 I'm instructed to replace the batter... So my TV stopped working and I'm wanting to connect my PS4 to my computer monitor via HDMI. The problem is that I don't think my computer even recognizes my HDMI for some reason. I plug it in and get nothing, not even a notification of something being plugged in. I tried to connect it a few times when I first got the computer but it didn't work then either. I heard that All in One computers usually have a button you push to start viewing via HDMI, but I haven't found one.  As a last resort I tried turning off my PC, plugging my HDMI in and then starting my computer back up. Nothing.  Any suggestions?

@AlexSivef? There should be two more digits and possible a w at the end of the product name. Please post it. 1.  The complete Model Name. or Product Number. of the notebook - see This HP web document if you don't how to locate the model number and\or product number.  The HP Recline, 27 TouchSmart and the Omni 27 have an HDMI input port that can be selected by the menu keys on the side of the display.   The HP AIO 23-1xx PCs do not have an HDMI input port, they have an HDMI output.

Hello, I want to know how to use HDMI port at the back of my PC. Is it HDMI in or out? I tried to use this PC as an extended monitor for my laptop, so I connected my laptop and the PC using HDMI cable. But the PC doesn't show anything. I couldn't find any button on the PC case or any menu on Windows. I always thought it's input only. If there is a specific way to enable HDMI input on this PC, please let me know. Thank you!

Hi allI have an HP Pavilion 15-bc000nx with Integrated Intel HD Graphics 530 and a dedicated GTX 960M (4gb). I want to use the HDMI out to use my (1080p) TV as a monitor to watch a movie or play a game while closing the laptop lid. When I do so, the game becomes very laggy and slow (unplayable). When I run Fraps it give me 60 fps !!!!This happens also when I open the lid and choose duplicate displays and adjust the resolution to 1080p, as well as when I close the lid and choose show display 2 only (the TV). In both cases. When I play the game while duplicating displays it runs ultra smooth on the laptop display and at the same time still laggy and jittery on the TV, yet both diplays give 60 fps !!!! I am sure it is not a hardware problem, but how to solve this problem?? Any kind of adjustments or settings I can modify?(N.B. I tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling the new ones for both intel and nvidia from HP website, also I tried another TV) Hope someone would help meThanks

Hello @AIM1,  The HDMI port is provided to give output to an External Monitor or TV. You have to use one end HDMI cable to the PC and other end depends on the device port that you are connecting.Whether its has HDMI or a Display port etc,, Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again !!  **Click the White Thumbs Up Button on the right to say Thanks**Make it easier for other people to find solutions by marking a Reply 'Accept as Solution' if it solves your problem. Thank You,GBL84I am not an HP Employee

I am trying to use a second monitor connected via the HDMI port. When I plug the HDMI cable in the monitor goes into power saving mode and doesn't do anything else. The properties on the notebook show two monitors and identify the 2nd screen correctly. Using the Windows key and P brings up the options ok but nothing displays. I've updated the graphics drivers and uninstalled all previous version but still can't get this to work.Any assistance would be gratefully received. Chipset: AMD A10-574M APU with Radeon HD graphics. GPU: AMD Radeon (TM) HD 8610G.
