I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Windows 10 has been updated as well as the BIOS and chipset but it will not see the 960 EVO ssdd.I have a Windows 10 install on an 850 EVO SSD and the drive still doesn't show up.  I haven't upgraded my personal computer in sometime but this BIOS is extremely limited, basically has options for boot order and Legacy/UEFI only.  Is there anyway to unlock this w/o having to mod it? There's lots of cross talk on the forums as to whether it's a SATA or NVME capable M.2 slot on this laptop.  I've spent a good deal of time on this and would really like for it to work.  Thanks in advance.

My new computer DOES recognize when I plug my mass storage stick into the usb port, but my computer does NOT assign a drive to it, (example, C:\, D:\, E:\, etc.) I can not find where the mass storage unit is, so I can't save or open anything to or from it. Is there a way that I can find my storage unit when I right click "Start" then "Explore"? I know my old computer automatically found my mass storage device as "removable disk." Thanks for any advice.

If that particular FLASH drive works properly on another computer, try this:

Create a file with NOTEPAD containing the following lines and save it as FIX.REG
-------------------------- cut after this line --------------------------------
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment]

"DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES"="1"
-------------------------- cut before this line --------------------------------

Double click on FIX.REG and say yes to the Merge Into Registry question.

Unplug ALL USB devices.
Open Device Manager.
View, Show Hidden Devices.
Uninstall all devices under USB Controllers.
Uninstall all devices under Disk Drives that you know are not present.
Uninstall all devices under Storage Volumes. Say no to any reboot prompts until you are finished. Also, if a Storage Volume doesn't uninstall, ignore it and move to the next one.
If you have a yellow ? with unknown devices, uninstall all of the entries there as well.

When this is done, reboot TWICE.

Reconnect the USB devices and see if they're recognized properly.

My old PC does not recognize the USB port on a Win 98 OS. I already tried to solve the problem by running a recognition of "plug and play" for new hardware connected to the PC via USB port by installing/adding drivers available from the Win 98 system, but didn't work.

I need to connect a cradle for a PDA, but I have never used the USB port before. Actually the USB port does not appear on the hardware profile as the COM and LPT ports, so it's not even there.

Any advise and help will certainly be much appreciated. Please forgive me if am asking a stupid question here. All I can say is that I need desperate help!

Thank you!

You're on the right track, but if your PC won't recognize USB devices you need to update your drivers. Investigate your PC manufacturer (or guru if your buddy built it) to get the latest drivers. Win98 will recognize USB but only if the motherboard and drivers support it.

When you click on the bubble, it shows that there is an unknown device.I'm not sure why this is happening or what I can do to fix this. I'm not sure if it is the port or the cam itself. I would go to Device Manager...see if any items have a yellow marking...and install the appropriate drivers from either the drivers CD which came with the system...or which are available at the website of the system manufacturer.

My scanner worked fine on the old usb 1 port. Just installed a Hi-Speed Host Card and when I try to use the new 2.0 port I get an error message that no drivers are detected for the scanner.

Have a system with a A7V8X-LA (Kelut) MoBo running WinXP.

Recently I bought a new drive (Samsung SATA 150 GB) and attempted to connect to one of the two SATA ports on the board.

The Drive was not recognized when connected to either of the two SATA ports.

I tried to connect the drive on another computer, The drive was read without a problem.

So after proving both drive and cables OK (I used the same data and power cables on the other computer) , the problem would appear to be the SATA ports on this board,

Are they physically there but inoperative? Did I miss a way to activate them in the BIOS? I could not found any way to enable them in Setup.

I do not know if this is a Vista problem but am making that assumption. I have a new Gateway LX6810-01 and did not care for the tiny keyboard that came with the new unit. I picked up a Microsoft comfort keyboard 2000, wired with USB end and attached a PS2 adapter to it. I plugged it in the same slot as where the Gateway board had been which was a PS2 keyboard and no joy. I unplugged removed the adapter and plugged it into a USB port and Vista picked it up stated correct driver was there and it was ready for use. It works fine with USB port. I would much rather use the PS2 port as I am limited on number of USB ports. I tried a few different adapters on the end of the USB cord in case one was faulty but none are recognized. By the way I had the computer off while changing things around to avoid any controller issues, and as the gateway keyboard worked and I did still find the driver for it would a recommendation be to delete that driver and install latest software from Microsoft site?
Any help would be appreciated to get it to work on the PS2 port.

Not a real problem but just wanna know how this is possible. I have 3-usb ports and they are all working when attaching mouse or usb stick or external usb harddrive and they are all usb2.0 ports.

I bought a sweex wifi usb adapter, plugged it in usb port and I heard ... ding dong... after 1 second ding dong etc etc. So it sees something and a second later it doesn't. It ended up with "unkown device" in device manager. and device manager refreshes all the time just as if it's plugged in and out all the time. So I went back to store and there it's working fine.

I tried 2 of the 3 usb ports end there's the same problem. But when I plug in in 3rd usb port there isn't a problem at all!! It finds drivers automatically from windows update and wifi works. But if I plug it in another usb-port it just doesn't work

How is this possible? And how to fix it?

A:WIFI USB stick only recognized in one usb-port

While I can't offer a fix I can say your not alone! My saitek cyborg v7 keyboard only works on one usb port on my gaming rig, plug It into another an I get the same "unknow device" or "hardware did not install properly"

I've just leanrt to live with it as I never need to unplug it.

Maybe its just poorly written drivers and or driver/hardware conflict

I have an Asus P5e3 mobo and would like to set this up to use my external eSATA hard drive. When I plug the drive into the port on the back of the mobo nothing shows up in Windows 7 64bit RC. (all my internal drives are SATA) When I boot into XP with the eSATA external drive plugged in I don't even get past the splash screen. Plugging it in while XP is running causes the whole system to freeze up.

This may possibly have something to do with enabling or configuring the AHCI in the BIOS but I am a bit fuzzy on the details.

Would appreciate any help.

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop with 2 USB ports in the back. I bought a Logitech Cordless Mouse (USB) which worked fine until a few days ago. Under Hardware Devices, Mouse, it shows the HID mouse driver (which is the USB Logitech mouse) and it shows a PS/2 mouse driver (which is strange since I do not have a PS/2 port anywhere on my laptop). I can uninstall the USB driver and it'll go away. But when I uninstall the PS/2 driver, it says "You'll need to restart your computer for this to take effect". So I restart my computer and it'll say it again after rebooting. So I reboot it again and nothing. The driver is still there under Hardware Devices.

Also, when I click on the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon (at the bottom right side of the taskbar) other removable devices show up, but not my mouse.

A mouse should not show up under removeable devices.

That is for storage devices, to allow you to "stop" them before removeal, to ensure all files are written to them first.

Ok this is driving me crazy. This all started when one day my G930 Logitech headset started becoming a pain in the ass to use. I had the charging dock plugged into one of the two USB ports behind my HP ZR30w monitor.

Then after a few days I began to get a USB Device Not Recognized Error constantly. Like you hear the Windows Pinging sound when you connect and disconnect a USB device all the time. Its like spamming me with the sound.

I tracked it down to this USB port, Port_#0001.Hub_#0011 (which is the USB port behind my monitor HP ZR30w, it is the inner most USB on the back.

I ran virus scans, spyware scans and nothing shows up, I had to rule out any fishy stuff. I have no idea how to get this error to stop showing up...it literally spams me with the error and sound when nothing is plugged in to that port...as I am typing this its yelling at me.

The catch is though, this is when the USB port is empty...nothing is plugged into it...it is like a phantom USB port that is just going haywire...Now if I plug a device in to it...the device works fine and the USB Device error does not show up, but for instance in this case, my G930 headset ends up disconnecting and reconnecting and throwing me errors...

How do i fix this? Is this a bad USB port?

I am running Windows 7 64bit. I tried disabling the USB port all together but it still shows that a device is attempting to connect to that port and is not being recognized.

I'm hoping this is the right forum for this question.
I am trying to get an old piece of lab equipment working on a 32 bit Win7 computer. The issue I'm running into is that the software requires a parallel port authentication dongle to be plugged in. The software is currently running on Win XP
with no hiccups.
As a test, I took a computer completely identical to the Win XP machine (with a native parallel port) and installed 32bit Win 7 on it. However, when I try to install the software, the dongle is never detected. I tried different protocol methods
in the BIOS to no avail (AT, PS/2, EPP, ECP/no DMA, ECP/DMA1, ECP/DMA3). I have seen several boards online with this issue but none of them have a clear cut solution. One board mentioned something about the dongle being 16bit which is why Win7 isn't able to
recognize it. I have also read about the virtual XP solutions, but that's not a route that I want to take. At this point I don't know what else to try.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am trying to run a piece of legacy hardware (a sidewinder precision 2, the one that is purely USB, no game ports) on a Vista install.

Though warned it might not work, I was surprised when I plugged it in that it worked flawlessly as a plug and play device; I installed no extra software or drivers. I happily chugged around in a game for a while, then quit. A little later, I tried again and after a short investigation realized that Vista did not recognize the device was connected. I tried the other port on the front of my computer, nothing. Then I tried the hub on my keyboard. Worked like a charm, for a few hours. On a restart, it no longer sees it there; nothing changes in system properties when I unplug/plug it in anywhere, and it is obviously no longer listed in game devices in control panel as it was before.

There is no noise on a hardware disconnect after Vista loses track of the joystick, but neither is there a disconnect sound at the time it loses track (as far as I've heard).

I've run out of ports! Any ideas as to why Vista would throw this kind of fit over a device?

Point: I also deleted entries relating to sidewinder in the registry when I ran out of ideas, deleting everything below joystick where a sidewinder entry occurred. No luck so far.

Sorry if this post should be in hardware, seemed like I needed an answer to the Vista side of the problem. Thanks in advance for your time, this is a new one to me.

I own a Dell Inspiron 13 7000 (7348) computer already updated to the latest A08 BIOS. There's a problem if a given USB device. Although it's not certified for USB 3.0, it works ok unless it's not recognized after an OS restart, so I have to disconnect and reconnect it physically to the USB port. When I turn USB debug mode on on laptop BIOS setup, which turns all 3.0 ports into 2.0 ones, the problem does not occur anymore, but of course I loose the useful 3.0 bandwidth. Since this does not occur with another computer, someone can speculate that there would be room for some BIOS improvement to avoid this problem. It seems the Dell does not turn the USB device completely off while restarting OS.
I would be grateful if someone could forward this case to the BIOS development team.

So what I did was to insert at the rear USB port and "no problem" it detected the flash drive. I tested the USB front panel port by plugging the printer (with usb plug) and it worked fine, I was able to sample print.

Question: How is this? I 'm a newbie on this (USB) Why doesn't the front USB port recognize the flash drive while it can on the rear? (I think front panel port are ok coz' of printer test)

Hello. I have a lot of issues with my Acer VN7-792G for a long time.First time I received the laptop, I had several issues with the Nvidia drivers while playing games, the GPU would overheat and freeze the laptop completely, along with a very unpleasant noise. It does that even on Very Low settings. I could finally find the answer to my issue when someone on Nvidia's forum told me to never update Nvidia drivers on laptops. (I was always updating to the latest driver through GeForce Experience)I followed his advice and got back to the driver provided by the manufacturer's website (which is 359.xx), since then no issue occured, I could play games on High/Ultra 120fps without freezing/crashing. I reinstalled Windows recently through the ISO provided by Microsoft's website. I disabled Windows Update to update the drivers, and I installed all the drivers provided by Acer's website for my computer, using my serial number. But after few minutes of playing, I still experience freeze/crash, and by that I mean the laptop completely freezes and the only thing I can do is to force shut down, holding power button for few seconds. The laptop is very hot at this point. Highest temp I could record for the GPU was around 70-80c before it freeze/crash.So I'm starting to think that the problem isn't from the Nvidia driver anymore, since the moment I reinstalled Windows 10 (64bits). Also, apart from the GPU really overheating, now the HDD seems to heat a lot too. Hi and wellcome, First update BIOS, if you don't have the latest updates. It is highly recommended since as you can see some update the VBIOS, which has a link with the video. Also it updates the management engine which monitors various parameters (eg temperature) on the notebook. Second be sure you have installed the intel management engine drivers from the acer drivers download page. XTU will not break the warranty, but be careful because it can cause system instability if you undevolt too much. Since you have a 792G, which is bigger than any 59XG notebooks I don't think you should have any issues with thermal throttling. So I would not set the CPU to 99%. It would limit the system performance.

Can't set it here, but I can for the built in display. *shrug* So instead...Desktop Right Click > Graphics Properties (which is Intel HD Graphics)I select the TV... It claims to be set at 1920x1080, which is BS. So now the real fishy part. I set the TV to mirror the built in display. My built in display is now at 720p, but HD Graphics claims I have them set at 1080. As soon as I disconnect the TV, the resolution on the built in display scales back up to 1080p. Icon sizes change, etc. It's very obvious something is not right. Any ideas or suggestions? I've tried everything I can think of. Oh and, I'm a Desktop tech. Something like this should be trivial...

My new VN7-792G arrived a few days ago and is a very nice machine indeed. The only odd thing is that the Fan seems to be quite loud when is starts going. I had an XPS machine before this so I am used to noisy fans, but this is quite high pitched and sounds almost as if it's imbalanced and reminds me of fans in old machines that begin to whine towards the end of their life. Oddly, the noise decreases if I lift one (or both) corners beside the hinges even slightly. I've also tried it on different surfaces in case it was a vibration issue between the laptop and the table it was on, but no success. Has anyone experienced anything similar, or is this normal?

A:Acer VN7 792G Fan noise

I think I had a very similar issue on VN7 792G, a noise like whistling. I was about to return the product but I think I fixed it. You probably won't like the solution. One of the below solved my fan noise issue (I don't know which) 1- Opened the case and investigate anything that might vibrate due to fan. First I saw that Acer forgot one of the screw of the mainboard so I placed a new one and screwed motherboard firmly no prevent any vibration. Also close to larger fan plastic casing of the (vibrating) fan was touching to the (stationary) case.  I put a soft electric band in between. 2- I put a little machine oil to both fans. This part is tricky, you need to know where to put (check online), also you will need an oil with small sized needle heads. It possible to access fans after removing keyboard. I suggest not turn upside down for sometime if you decide to put oil. best,

How can i replace the hdd for a ssd in my Aspire VN7-792G?

A:replace hdd for ssd in aspire VN7-792G

Hi,You need to familiarise with disassembly procedure by watching videos, you need to decide which type of SSD you actually want to install, you have the option of replacing the current HDD with 2.5" normal SSD or M.2 SATA SSD.Now, you need to back up your current drive image to another external hard drive, and create a recovery disk using a program like Macrium reflect or similar program. Then you need to install the SSD, go to BIOS and make the dvd/USB as the first boot, connect the external hard drive, insert the DVD/USB recovery disk, reboot. Now, you can recover the image you backed up earlier to the new SSD.If you need more clarification, please post your question.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hhqm2yg_aiI&t=466shttp://www.macrium.com/help/v5/How_to/Rescue/Create_a_Standard_Windows_PE_Rescue_Environment.htmhttp://kb.macrium.com/KnowledgebaseArticle50074.aspx

I performe... Read more

Okay, I couldn't find anyone with this problem, so I'm creating a new post. One month ago I've bought VN7-792G and I'm satisfied with it. But there is one strange problem - during certain events (receiving notification via Facebook/Steam, when launching a sound file or jumping through a YouTube video) I can hear a silent "tick" sound from lower left corner of my laptop. I've tried updating BIOS and sound drivers, but this problem persists.

Or is it software related?

I just picked up one of the 4k models with SSD and HD.  I'd like to put in a bigger hard drive but it's a PITA to open this thing up so it doesn't seem worth it just to put in a 2tb drive.  Will a 15mm 4tb drive fit in there? (I know I can get an adapter to put a 9.5mm drive in the optical drive bay much more easily than replacing the internal hard drive.)

My laptop is shutting off randomly, especially when being moved, even slightly.  If I catch it in time and lift on the right side, it will stay on even though it started going dim.  It does it on battery or on the charger.  Very annoying and I have already loaded programs which I likely can't transfer to another computer. Very disappointed in this product.  any solutions?
