(Solved) Default .gif settings

Q: (Solved) Default .gif settings

I recently tried out a new .gif viewer for all of my joke email .gif's. It was kind of like a slideshow viewer. I didn't like it so I deleted it.

The problem now is that every time I go to view one of my .gif's in "My Document's" it tells me it cannot locate the program I deleted to open the .gif's. I think it may have taken over as default for my .mpg and other video files too.

I beleive that the way I used to view my .gif's was in a separate Internet Explorer window.

Is there any way I can change my settings back to the original default?

Please help .

Preferred Solution: (Solved) Default .gif settings

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi! I have a Windows Vista 32 bit OS. When you use Windows Defender and look it up in the Classical View and click options which do you select for the default settings?(ignore or remove)

A:[SOLVED] what do I select under default settings?

In any view remove is a bad idea. Default is how the program is intended to perform. Ignore skips irritating warnings which you find unnecessary. You could also set up your defender preferences in the "normal" view. Switching to Classic doesn't change anything.

Can anyone help?

I have always used IE without any problems until a few days ago. I have a BTYahoo a/c & every couple of weeks have to sign in to verify my password.

Now every time I try, it briefly leaves the sign in page before immediately returning to it. It rests on the new page so briefly, merely a flicker that I don't have time to read what it says but I have seen ' browser settings' (I think).

My question is if I ask IE to return to default settings, will that solve the problem? Thanks.

A:[SOLVED] Internet Explorer Default Settings

Have you changed any IE settings lately? When entering your password, be sure the user account is correct and check the keep me signed in box. Make sure the sign in page is fully loaded and use the Yahoo "Enter" with a single mouse click. To see if the problem is in your box, try getting in from another computer.

Hey all,

I just bought a new Sony VAIO SR-28 in mid-December 2008. It came installed with Vista Home Premium, Simplified Chinese.

Since then, I've experienced probably about 5 or 6 times when Vista just seemed to reset itself back to factory settings, but not quite. Let me explain...

When I start up my computer, everything seems normal - the list of users, the user icons and the custom background I set for the login screen are all as per normal. But when I log into my account (which is an admin account, by the way) the wallpaper is black and there's a small window in the top-left that announces that it's configuring settings for IE7, Windows Live Mail, Windows Media Player and so on. The standard kind of pop-up you get when you log into an account for the first time.

After that, my taskbar appears at the bottom of the screen (it used to be at the top), along with the default Sony wallpaper comes up on the screen, with the default icons, default Start menu items, default Quick Launch items and such.

I moved my Documents, Music, Pictures and Video user folders to my E drive (the computer has 3 partitions, C, D and E) when I just got the computer, but after these resets happen, the abovementioned folders are back at their default locations, in the C drive. But my files are still on the E drive, though.

Things like my user icon, the programs I installed and so on are still okay.
So anyway, I fix this with a System Restore (which takes ages to start up,... Read more

Recently had my PC at work upgraded to Word 2003 (we're a bit behind the times here ) and now I have two annoying things that occur when opening a document that didn't happen before.

(1) If I open any saved document, irrespective if it has been created by me or sent to me via email, the page view defaults to "Reading Layout" and I keep having to change it to "Print Layout". I can't see how to change this default to my preferred option.

(2) When I create a new document, the cursor is way up at the extreme top of the page, despite the fact the page margins are at their default setting (i.e. Top/bottom = 72pt and Left/right = 90pt). See the attached screenshot.

Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Whenever I try to highlight part of a word along with another word with the cursor, Windows automatically highlights the entire word. I know this has been the default setting for a long time, but it's really getting on my nerves. If I start highlighting in the middle of a word, it's because I need to highlight starting in the middle of the word.

I know I can override this on the keyboard by using shift to highlight, but that's extremely inconvenient. Is there a way to disable it altogether? Maybe even in just individual programs (in particular, Word, at the moment)?

A:Solved: Windows default highlighting settings are annoying -- Can I change them?

I don't know of a Windows wide fix, but the following will work in Word 2007.

In Word, click the Office Button then click Word Options.
Select Advanced and uncheck the When selecting, automatically select entire word box.
Click OK.

There should be a similar option if you are using another version of Word.

Yeah, you may think this seems like just a normal message from oc'ing too much, but a problem-I haven't overclocked anything! It booted to that point, then my hard drive went mad clicking and crashed. This was after it being turned on and off to see if my graphics card was booting because I had no video, but it turned out I had just been downright stupid and plugged it into the onboard graphics. Anyone know what could have happened? Thanks

P.S. would the power drawing thing (molex on my case fan) need to have a seperate connector or just draw power from another device? Thanks.

A:'Previous overclock settings failed, default settings enabled'

If this happens just once then I wouldn't worry about it too much but the PSU or HDD could have something to do with it.

You can connect a molex connector fan to its own power connector or you can put it on an optical drive's connector for example, but it's ok to do either as they don't use much power.

I am running Windows XP on an Nspire laptop purchased just a few months back. I installed Ad Aware, Spybot Search & Destroy, Spyblaster, Zone Alarm, and Windows Defender in addition to the Verizon Security Suite that was currently running in order to find and delete some adware viruses. Spybot was successful and everything was restored to normal for a couple of days until I restarted and got a blue screen error "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" and stating that I should disable BIOS memory options. I assumed that I had too many virus scanning programs and firewalls installed so I was able to boot into safe mode as administrator and deleted all of the before mentioned programs except for Windows Defender and Verizon Security Suite which I planned to keep. At restart I received the same blue screen message so I went to the BIOS setup menu to check the memory options and my BIOS menu has extremely limited settings options (Phoenix Trusted Core) which frustrated me and I (stupidly) reset the default settings. Now I was unable to get past the black screen telling me that Windows failed to start normally. So I went to the XP recovery CD and tried recovery and now all I get is a blue screen saying hard drive not found.
This laptop was purchased "Vista ready" but with XP Pro installed by my request. Could the problem possibly be that XP setup is not recognizing the hard drive because I reset the settings to default and now the hard drive is recognizable by Vista but n... Read more

Hello all,

Just around two weeks ago or so, something that I assume I did has caused my PC to stop doing a number of things, such as ;
Recognizing recently used programs in the start menu
Allowing the locking and unlocking of the task bar
Saving the organization of files in the "Quick Launch" bar
Saving my decision to "Show Hidden Files and Folders" from the control panel.
Saving default file associations and other such settings
~~~~~(Such as Firefox as my default browser, Winamp and VLC for all media files (Windows Media Player also goes through setup every time it launched when I forget to use "open with."))
Making folders and other things through the Right Click > New menus in folders and on the desktop
And a wide assortment of other problems that I either can't think of or am unaware of at this time.
I remember having a similar issue once in the past, and I was able to resolve it through a system restore from a time before the issue began. This time however, the earliest restore available was already after the problem began.
I'm not really sure where to begin with this issue. Most of my own little research attempts have lead it to being a registry issue, but I have no real justification for that of my own. Many solutions have pointed to the policies directory for Explorer, but I have no items in there to look at.
So, I come to anyone here asking for some guidance in my issue. Thank you for any help you may provide; I truly ... Read more
I removed administrators permissions , that caused my pc to be unable to restore to previous restore point correctly. However, I was able to re-add the admin permission and everything now is fine.
Yet I need help here.
1 could anyone post screenshots of the default "default folder" security settings? I need to set it back to the default one even though now it works fine.
2 why the hell does that folder NOT HIDDEN? Are yours not hidden as well? Of course the option to hide all system file is checked on my pc. The only reason I messed with that folder is because I thought it was just a normal folder and not a system folder. Anyway to get it back to be invisible?
My boyfriends computer wouldn't start up so we had a tech (friend) look at it. He did somethings to the computer including replacing the video card.
Now all of the programs are in the start up menu and starting when the computer starts up, but thats not the problem. I had gone into the start up menu and unchecked all those I don't want to start up and also went into some of the programs themselves and set them up so they did NOT start up when computer was turned on.
Everytime the computer is turned on all those programs still start up and the tool bar at the bottom is loaded with program icons.
Why do the programs keep going back to the default settings and how can i fix this.
Hello Wan, and welcome to Vista Forums.
If this helps, this is what I found for this:
Valve Corporation uses .GCF games cache files both with its Steam computer game online content delivery platform (used for downloading computer games and content from the Internet), and with its Source 3D game engine (used to render realistic 3D graphics in their games). Valve Corporation also developed the game Half-life (along with its sequels) and the .GCF files is sometimes specifically associated with this game, although it is entirely possible that .GCF might be generated by any of Valve Corporation's games..
If you have Half-Life or another Valve brand game, then reinstalling the game to repair it without uninstalling it should fix the file association also.
Hope this helps,
There are ways to restore defaults to individual applications or OS components, but I am not aware of any "global default restore" capability. The closest I know of is with XP where you can roll-back the system to a previous checkpoint if the right options are enabled. But, there is even a problem here... if you don't know what you're doing you can "un-do" legitimate changes to the system. You may have better luck by figuring out how to use "permissions" to restrict what the users can and cannot update.
Can I change the default settings for Font and Font Size, and the Page Margins in WordPad and Microsoft Works 2000? If so, please tell me how. I am getting tired of having to manually change the settings every time I start a new document. Thank you, Robert
A:default settings
I don't believe this can be done in WordPad.
However, in Works:
Change Works Default Font
Selecting the default font in Microsoft Works is a simple matter. Open the MS Works word processor and in the menu bar to Format | Font | Style. Click on Font and Style and a dialog box pops up. In the dialog box, choose your font by highlighting it, then highlight the font size that you prefer. Select a color if you choose or leave the color on auto. Move to the right side of the dialog box and click on the Set Default button. This font choice will appear every time that you open Works. If you are changing the font for a single document only then click on the OK button. Click to expand...
Q. Every time I create a new document, I want it to follow a specific style, such as using default margin settings. How do I do this?
A. To specify custom settings that apply to each new document, you should create a blank document with those setting, and then save it as a template. To do this, use the instructions below:
Create a new document and apply any settings you want in your new documents. For example, if you want all new documents to have a .5-inch margin, apply that change in the Page Setup area.
On the File menu, click Save As.
Click Template.
Type a name for your template. To use this template for all new documents of that type, select Use This Template For All New Documents.
Click OK. Click to expand...
Using this second bit of advice, you can change both the font ... Read more
Good afternoon all...
I come humbly come to the super gurus here to respectfully request assistance with my "global paper size" in Windows XP-professional. Here is a description of the problem:
Here at the office, I received a "rolled down" Dell Optiplex 755 from a Chinese programmer. This machine is 2X as fast as my old box. The machine functions great in every way except in the printing process. For whatever reason, it thinks that all the networked and physically connected printers are defaulted to A4 sized paper. So every time I need to print a document, I have to manually change the paper size from A4 to Letter. I have gone through the registry and changed every occurrence of the "A4" to "Letter", to no avail, my system still thinks all the printers are defaulted to paper size A4.
Does any one have any "magic bullets" to help me correct this issue? Please lemme know something soon... (it's driving me nuts )
Thanks in Advance!
"A full feature software and driver package for Windows 7 is not available for your product. However, the Windows 7 operating system installed on your computer contains a basic driver solution for your product.
With the basic driver, some of the advanced product features are not available"
Based on what HP says you will not get all the features you used to get in older Operating Systems.
