Thinkpad T430 w/ Lenovo Thinkpad Mini Dock Series 3 (433710U)

Q: Thinkpad T430 w/ Lenovo Thinkpad Mini Dock Series 3 (433710U)

When I dock the computer and press the power button on the dock it doesn't recognize my monitor as the main screen. I have to hit a key (Windows 10) and put in my password hoping that it's doing that and then the screen comes up. If I reboot after that ... THEN.... it recognizes my screen as the main monitor. How do I fix this? The only time this happens is when I use it off the dock and then put it back on. If it stays on the dock all the time it does just fine. Any fixes for this? Thanks...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a Thinkpad T430 type 23474W4 and a Thinkpad mini dock series 3 type 4338-15U. I already have a Lenovo LEN LS2223wC monitor hooked up to it through one of the DVI ports. I have a a Lenovo LT1952p Monitor that I would like to use as a second external monitor. Both monitors work individually through either DVI or VGA. However, I can't get them to both work at the same time no matter what configuration I use. I was told they didn't have to be identical monitors to work together. What am I doing wrong?

Hello! Im having a little problem with my docking station. ThinkPad Mini Dock Series 3. Seems like the DisplayPort does not work. I use dual 1440p monitors from Phillips and want to connect both with DP as the DVI is single-link only. I have one of the monitors plugged in the MiniDP on the side of T430 so i got that working wich is nice.  Is there some kind of firmware or something i need to install to get the DP working on the docking station? Cant remember i have ever done this and as far as i know it ha never worked... Always used it with a single 24" monitor with VGA. Thanks.

A:T430 with ThinkPad Mini dock series 3 DisplayPort ...

This issue is driving me crazy!  I bought new DisplayPort Monitors for T430s ThinkPads using the Mini Dock Series 3 dock.  I have 4 identical laptops.  Same software and drivers with two Monitors.  One on the Dock DisplayPort and the other Monitor on the PC Mini DisplayPort.   Three laptops work perfectly.  The forth one blinks! I do have a newer T430s with the Invidia Graphics card that has the same symptoms, but I have come to the conclusion that Lenovo does not support multiple monitors with that version.  Lenovo, Please tell me there is a firmware update for the Type 4337 Mini Dock Series 3 dock.  I saw the link for the T540 dock firmware update.  Will it work on the Series 3 dock?

I just got a T430 and a Mini Dock from a refurbisher, and the dock won't physically attach to the laptop. From inspection, the latches don't fully insert into the holes on the laptop. I've tried messing aronud with it a bit but I can't get it to lock. With the dock plugged in, the computer light will come on if I press down on the dock. Anybody have any ideas what to do? Thanks,

Battery icon says "Plugged in, Charging" but i can see the battery percentage slowly draining. Mock me if you like, , but...  Figured I would share, so others might benefit? There are a few flavours of AC Power issue out there (some bad 170W Power Supplies, some Lenovo Battery Manager issues, etc.), but if you are greeted with the warning on your W520, and are using a true 170W Power Supply, stop and check the Power Supply plug connection IN to the dock. I know sounds ridiculous, but...  First, given the slotted construction of the 170W Power Supply connector, NEVER force anything!  But, once you've lined that up, are sure and slid it in to the dock, at that point, make SURE that it's really fully seated in to the connector!  PUSH it to ensure! I've been having the issue, and finally realized, on my setup, there is an extra "hump" you have to push the connector past. (How long have I had this machine?  FACEPALM!)  If you plug it in, it will work, but give errors and be problematic on charging.  Once you FULLY plug it in, that problem goes away. I think it's a function of the middle pin not being fully and properly seated - so a test was failing (making it think it was a 90W supply?). And a PS for folks: The original dock for the W520 was the "4338-30U (eSATA)", 170W. I can report that the "4338-35U (USB 3.0)", 170W DOES in fact work with the W520. Sadly (as I expected), no, you don't get another USB 3.0 port on the back of the dock.  It de-rates to a USB 2.0 port, but that port does work -... Have been happily running windows 10 - with dual monitors, but since a recent update, the system once re-docked will no longer re-detect that it using different monitors. Previously i could use it:1. Un-docked - at 1600 x 9002. then when i put it to sleep3. Then dock it and resumed:     it would     a) switch to 1920 x 1080, and     b) also detect and display on the second monitor - no intervention required. Now, it remains in it's prior "state" (it neither changes state nor outputs to the second monitor) - only outputting to the first external monitor - but at 1600 x 900. Thus since a recent change, it is not "re-detecting" the "change in state" on resume, ONLY when i now do a full restart. The update may have been a Windows update, but on the same day i also installed a Toshiba Dynadock - with dual display port support. I have used the Lenovo system update to update the driver - now it is at 10.18.10.4425 - and as the driver loaded the monitors re-detected, and corrected - but later the problem is persisting. Does anyone know how to force the driver to re-detect on resume not just on restart? The ThinkPad Multiple Monitor Configurations pdf (LINK) says the DVI port  on thinkpad Mini Dock Series 3 only support up to 1920x1200, but I would like to connect the DVI-D port to a external monitor with 2560x1600 resolution.  Will it work?  I am planning to buy a T420 with a discrete Nvidia Optimus video card and a mini dock series 3.  Yes, I can't use the display port because the external monitor only have DVI-D port.  I knew that the DVI-D port is able to support 2560x1600 resolution as long as the video card support it, I don't understand why the DVI-D port on the thinkpad mini dock series 3 can only support  up to 1920x1200 even though the Nvidia Optimus Technology is powful enough. Please share your experience and suggestions.  thanks.

Hello all,  I just got a Thinkpad Mini Dock 3 with the USB 3.0 port. However, the dock port does not work with my W520 (which has USB 3.0 on it). The dock port does work with my X220 (yes, old school), however (which also has 3.0 port). So, the fault is not the dock, but some kind of issue between the W520 and the Mini Dock. I've uninstailled and reinstalled the 3.0 hub driver, updated drivers, and searched everywhere but cannot find a fix. Can anyone offer a suggestion on how to fix this issue? Thanks kindly,Dylan

Hi all, First of all I would like to take a moment and write my history with this experience. Last year I had a Dell Precision M4500 (i7-720QM and nVidia Quadro FX880M) which it had to be my eGPU machine. But using FL Studio alot, the cpu didn't kept the pace so I had to make a change. My research got to my Thinkpad T430 because Ivy Bridge platform can get you up to 90% of peak performance of your eGPU solution. When I had my Dell M4500, I have ordered the EXP GDC V8 Expresscard solution at a pretty fair and decent price (Christmas sales) from Banggood. Shipping to Romania was quite long, almost 2 months. In the meantime bought from a local guy, a Dell DA-2 220W power adapter which I heard it is plug'n'play. After arrival, I found out that I don't have the PCI-E power adapter for the graphic card, in my case a Gigabyte Radeon 6850 OC 1GB. That's the only card I have so, I was aware that I might need a display monitor. After another months of searching, found out on Banggood the holy PCI-E adapter specialy for EXP GDC solution. To be assured , bought 2 cables (just in case ) because the shipping was 1 month and 2 weeks (long, I know!). Well, last night I was dying to fire it up, so I put my Panasonic TV ( don't have a display monitor, lame, I know...) and put all cables and adapters together, the expresscard in T430 and fire it. My specs :i7-3610QM, 16GB HyperX Impact CL9, 1600x900, Intel HD4000 iGPU, Windows 7 64bit.After Windows loaded, my Radeon 6850 was found in D... Dear all,

The BSOD is not the only problem I'm having. While using the Laptop, sometimes the screen starts to shake, then the laptop shuts down without showing the BSOD. Sometimes, the BSOD appears. Each time I've to restore the Loptop to a previous point in order to make it work.
I've tried to run memory test using memtest86+-5.01, after 10 hours work and 9 runs, there was no errors.
I've tried to use driver?s verifier, however, when I set it up to work, the BSOD appears.
Attached is the recommended ZIP file to analyze the problem, only two dmp files are available.
I hope that I get some help regarding this matter soon.

See subject.  Ever since the BIOS upgrade, the dock no longer crashes.  Two days running now with no problems; prior to the upgrade it would crash routinely when connecting via USB-C.  I had to employ the unsavoury workaround of connecting the laptop to a charger and connecting it to the dock via the USB-A port using the USB-A to USB-C adaptor supplied.  Now I'm connecting via USB-C cable only. In fact, I'd given up on using the dock at all and had it just sitting there.  I decided to give it another go after reading that BIOS v1.19 fixed instances of BSODs occuring when connected to an external monitor (which I did experience now and again when connecting to an external monitor via HDMI i.e. not via dock).    Dock Type : 40AFX1E Type : 20MF

Does the Thinkpad P51s support the Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock? I have the Thinkpad P51s with stock Windows 10 Pro and updated to latest drivers and Windows version and installed the latest Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock drivers. Attaching the Thunderbolt 3 Dock to the P51s as described in documentation, it charges the notebook, however, noting attached to the dock is recognized. I've tested with attaching USB flash drives, headphones, Ethernet, HDMI, and DP, but nothing is recognized nor are any warnings/errors displayed in Windows. While the Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock is listed as being compatible with the P51s and T570, the notebook order page does not list the Thunderbolt 3 Dock in any of the accessories lists. Lenovo Sales also confirmed that the Thunderbolt 3 Dock is fully compatible with the P51s.  However, I needed to purchase the Thunderbolt 3 Dock separately from the notebook order. What's going on? Has anybody successfully used the P51s or the T570 with the Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock? Or is this something I need to wait for full support via a future BIOS/driver update? Or perhaps my Thunderbolt 3 Dock is defective? Thanks,Boris

Apologies if this is reprising and earlier question on this topic. I have recently acquired an old-ish second-hand ThinkPad X230 [2325SWK build with a G2ET91WW (2.51) BIOS], accompanied by a ThinkPad UltraBase Series 3 docking station [P/N 0B67692] which has an empty 2½" bay.I need advice on the following issues:1    The X230 currently has an SSD installed [Samsung 128GB MZ7TD128HAFV-000L1] which will not be large enough for the programs and program data that I have planned to install.  I would like to upgrade to a 1 1TB SSD, and I propose to clone the contents of the existing 128 GB drive to a 1 TB Samsung 850 Evo [MZ-75E1T0B].  Are there any SATA or other firmware issues that I should be aware of before acquiring the 1 TB drive, arranging for its cloning and for the replacement of the current 128 GB drive?2    I would like to populate the empty 2½" bay on the UltraBase Series 3 docking station with an HDD, and the model I have in mind is a 2 TB Seagate BarraCuda Hard Drive [ST2000LM015].  Again, I'd like to know if there are any hardware, firmware or other issues before acquisition and installation.I'd be grateful for any help on either of these two issues in an Australian context.

Dear Community Last week I received my new ThinkPad P53, a custom order over my schools IT-Support.After upgrading RAM and SSD I ran into some errors and the boot drive got corrupted.I managed to restore the boot drive using the Lenovo USB-Recovery-Creator and the official factory image.Everything now works perfectly fine and alle the drivers and utilities that came preinstalled are also back again. Except for one thing. Out of factory there was a utility called X-Rite Color Assistant for color calibration that is now gone.I already updated everything inside Lenovo Vantage and Windows Update, but it didn't bring it back either.Yesterday I saw that the X-Rite Color Assistant can be downloaded under https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds540353providing the serial number of the supported products. It also can be found under the software and ultility downloads of theX1 Extreme Gen 2 and the P1 Gen 2 but not yet for the P53 or so on. Since the Lenovo X-Rite Color Assistant is cloud based and the color profiles are stored online you have to provide the serial number of the factory calibrated machine. Thats what I did, but it says that the serial number is not allowed for this download, despite my ThinkPad P53 has a X-Rite Color Calibrated sticker on it. Do you have any suggestions? Maybe it isn't available yet beacause the product was released recently, after the X1 Extreme and P1 Gen 2. Thank you for looking in. Best regards, Simon Sp... Read more

Just set up my new Thunderbolt 3 Gen 2 Dock on my Lenovo X280, everything is working fine apart from the fact that it is not charging the laptop. How can I fix this?

I recently received a ThinkPad T480s for my work PC and a Thunderbolt 3 Dock. I'm loving the laptop, but the dock is having some troubles. I'm worried either the dock is bad or worse, the laptop's Thunderbolt hardware is bad. The dock will cut out and appear to crash on certain occasions. I'm still trying to experiment with the triggers. I'm not 100% sure, but it appears that while I'm using it everything works fine - so long as I keep the laptop awake. It's when the ThinkPad goes to sleep or I leave my desk for a long enough time that the screens will have appeared to drop out. Or after the laptop has gone to sleep and I wake it up, then a few minutes later the dock crashes. For the most part the issue resolves itself once the dock power cycles and the displays come back up, but the last time this happened the screen was frozen and I had to do a hard shutdown of the laptop by holding the power button. My dock is pretty heavily loaded. It has the following peripherals attached: 2 DVI monitors with DVI to DisplayPort converterr connected to the dock1 VGA monitorEthernet connectionKeyboard USBMouse USBAudio OutAll monitors plus the docking powersupply are connected to the same powerstrip. The closest post resembling my issue is this one: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Displays-Options-and-Accessories/Thunderbolt-3-Dock-crashes-and-emits-c... But it doesn't appear to have been fully solved. I've updated the ThinkPad's Thunderbolt drivers and firm...
