Reset or Re-flashing BIOS Dell latitude E6230 - BIOS Corrupted will not POST

Q: Reset or Re-flashing BIOS Dell latitude E6230 - BIOS Corrupted will not POST

I am look for a last ditch help on fixing the BIOS/POST problem on a perfectly fine E6230
I was attempting to make a powered eSATA cable work when I enabled the SATA 4 and SATA 5 button in the BIOS.
After reboot... nothing..
I have been told it is a motherboard failure but this is too co-incidental!
I have tried a reset of the BIOS by disconnecting all power even the BIOS Coin battery .... nothing - no POST - although the LED shows that laptop is detecting lack of memory and HDD
A search shows that for INSPIRON laptops the BIOS can be unpacked and re-FLASHED to reset.
Does anyone know how to achieve this with the DELL Latitude Laptop or another way to reset the BIOS setting please?

Many thanks for any help or advice

Preferred Solution: Reset or Re-flashing BIOS Dell latitude E6230 - BIOS Corrupted will not POST

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

If anyone could help (Rustam I have heard mentioned) I would be most greatful. I got the above mentioned laptop off ebay for an ill family member whom cant get around too well and needs a good laptop for computing.

I was able to remove one password with removing the cmos battery, but it still has the main passwords in the bios locked. The unlock -setup- password, admin password are locked. I reset the system password by removing the cmos battery.

Hi, So I've owned this laptop for about 2 years.  About 1 month ago, the laptop had a corrupted BIOS that I was unable to restore, and the thread describing that in detail can be found here: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Boot-and-Lockup/Laptop-BIOS-Corrupted-probably/m-p/5735383#M95... Since then, I have ordered a new motherboard and installed it in the computer. It started up and worked perfectly, but wouldn't recognize the battery and only operated when plugged in. So, I thought that I would update the BIOS to see if that would fix the battery issue. I downloaded the HP executable for the BIOS and ran it. Windows did some stuff (I forget the exact details), and then the computer rebooted. It displayed a simple blue box that said it was flashing the BIOS. I played a game on my other computer for ~30 minutes then came back to the laptop.  This time, there was a completely blank screen. I attempted to move the mouse, and do anything reasonably expected to wake the computer from sleep, because the power LED was still on.  I then pushed the power button until it shut off, and then tried to power it on. It resulted in the exact same symptoms as the thread I linked above. I have tried unplugging the computer (which removes all power because the battery won't work), using both key combinations to try to restore the BIOS from the original hard drive, and using both key combinations to try to restore the BIOS from a USB drive with a slightly olde... when i first turned on my computer i got a blue screen message saying that BIOS is corrupted and now is updating. Then the computer restarts and a flashing dash come up on a black screen and nothing else happens.

Whenever I restarts the computer the same process happens.

Anyone can suggest any fixes or causes???

A:BIOS corrupted + Flashing dash

Maybe clearing the BIOS could help. Look at the motherboard menu, there should be a jumper which you can set to clear the BIOS.

If you can still enter the BIOS by pressing a certain key on startup, then you can choose Load BIOS defaults or some similar setting.

Hi there,
My dell latitude e6230 is not booting. The power and CAP button light up and they go off 14 seconds after pressing power button. The screen is completely blank and I cannot hear any response from CPU fan and internal mechanical hard drive. Would be good if someone here can help to advise the status of my laptop. Thank you very much!!!

A:My dell latitude e6230 is not booting

Basic troubleshooting:  disconnect all external devices, unplug the system and remove or disconnect the main battery.  Hold the power button for 30 seconds, remove the base cover and remove and reinstall both memory modules.  Try powering up on AC only (no battery).  If it will, but won't with the battery connected, replace the battery with a new one.  If it still won't boot up, replace the mainboard.

Alright, I have here a HP Pavilion 513c that needs a flashed BIOS. It boots up and begins with the standard startup features, but once it goes to read ANY of the attached devices, it restarts itself and locks up.

I know that the problem lies in the BIOS, but since it cannot load anything off of a floppy or bootable flashdrive, is there any way to flash the BIOS when it wont even load that far?

We have a laptop here that an intern typo'd the administrator password twice and now we are trying to take steps into resetting the Bios.  We have tried holding the power button down for 25 seconds (doesn't do system or admin password resets) and we have unhooked the CMOS battery from the machine (as well as taking out the regular battery out while powering it on) to try to force reset the bios.
None of this worked.  Is there a special trick to resetting the bios on these particular laptops?

My boyfriend was having some issues with his computer so he decided to flash his bios (I don't know to what version and he's sulking now so I can't ask him)

Anyway, he's had this computer about a year now and it was running ok but after flashing the BIOS it wont post. I've tried clearing the CMOS, I've done every combination of moving the jumper, pressing the button and taking the battery out suggested on various forums, we left the battery out for several hours but no luck.

I've tried removing all but 1 stick of RAM and that didn't sort it out, I really don't want to have to resort to disassembling the whole thing but I will if I have to.

The LED just displays the standard CPI INIT message which isn't particularly helpful.

My laptop does is not booting now, all of a sudden, after it went for a reset with some igdmk64.sys error/failure.
When I press the power button, the HDD LED just blinks once briefly and there is no further activity. I presume it is not even loading the bios (as I dont see anything on the screen).
I tried the static discharge step (remove battery & power adapter, hold power for 20-30 sec, put back adapter and try power button wt fn key to enter diagnostics OR put battery & adapter and try poer button to see led etc - but no success).
When I put the battery & power adapter and press the power on button, the HDD LED blinks for a moment (and goes off permanently) and the Power LED stays on forever.  There is no further action of any sort.  The LED status is as follows (after that initial HDD LED flash):HDD LED; OFFPower LED: ON / SOLIDWireless LED: OFFWhat is the way forward to make this lappie boot up now? Pl. suggest the approach/steps.

A:My latitude e6230 does not boot - not even till dell logo

Unplug the system, remove or disconnect the battery and hold the power button for 30 sec.  Remove and reinstall both memory modules and the hard drive.
Try powering up on AC only  - if it will but won't with the battery, the battery is bad.
If it still won't power up, remove the hard drive and see if you can get to a POST screen.  If you can, the hard drive has failed.
If you still get nothing, the mainboard has failed.

I have a Latitude E6230 running Win 7 Pro 64 bit that I purchased recently (used machine). The previous owner re-installed Win 7 and MS Office 2013 but reported that the OS will not update to Service pack 1.   I connected to the Dell website and carried out the full connected machine scan and uploaded the latest drivers and Bios.   All checked out OK but  I still get error code Oxc8000247 and cannot update Win7 with updates or SP1.  I am now at a loss on what to try next, I am a bit reluctant to re-format the drive and start from scratch as I do not possess the MS Office 2013 CD to re-load it.
Any ideas?

Well apparently when they installed my new motherboard they did something wrong and my computer's bios reads lattitude 810 version a02 (I talked to one of the tech guys over the phone and they use the same motherboard for multiple latptops).
Anyway you can see how this would cause me problems (mainly video card issues), Ive downloaded the new bios but it wont let me run it or /forcetype it says NOTICE!! Running on an unsupported system.
Occasionally I'll be able to boot up just fine but I cant run any games or anything that stresses the video card, and sometimes when i boot up it will be a mess of colors and lines and ill barely be able to see anything, and those times i cant even load into normal mode.
I dont have a floppy disk drive, i do have a cd burner and flash drive, is there anyway for me to get this bios to run?

This is a tough one, That can be a problem with buying from Ebay is that if you don't have information of the original purchaser then any existing warranty may not transfer to you,  and tech support will not be able to offer any services, or even help with a BIOS password.  If you haven't already i suggest contacting tech support again and showing all the documents that you have to verify ownership.

A:Dell Latitude D620 BIOS Password

Short answer: You need the original password.
That unit has been refurbished by a Dell-authorized shop (as all with the 595B are) so the restore discs cannot be used.
All of the suggestions your tried, are known not to work in that model... The D600 and D620 are the most difficult of all Dells to fix. You will likely need to replace the motherboard with one known to work. Most of the boards on eBay have the same problems you have.

Hi everyone,
I recently acquired a Latitude 7275, everything was working fine, but when I updated to BIOS XPS_9250_Latitude_7275_1.1.29 released on the 9/5/17 it broke my TPM 2.0 implementation.
I had suspended Bitlocker before the update but on reboot, it kept asking me for the Bitlocker recovery key, I  then had to disable Bitlocker completely.
After that i could not enable it back again, it kept saying "internal error", I was using DellTpm2.0_Fw1.3.2.8_V1_64
I then noticed that the latest BIOS was removed from the support page.
I reset windows 10 to no avail. I then decided to downgrade the TPM, I read this page  http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/enterprise-client/w/wiki/11850.how-to-change-tpm-modes-1-2-2-0 checked the Manufacturer ID and it is the same.
I updated the TPM to DellTpm1.2_Fw5.81.2.1_V3_64, and as soon I rebooted the system I was able to enable the 1.2 TPM and enable Bitlocker.
I then decided to suspend the Bitlocker and update back to TPM 2.0, but on reboot it sows and error: "Failure due to FW update policy"
I then downgrade to BIOS XPS_9250_Latitude_7275_1.1.27 and tried the TPM upgrade again, but still no luck.

Can someone shed some light on the issue please, I am at a loss.
Am I missing anything using TPM 1.2 or will it be incompatible with future BIOS versions?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Kind regards

Hi! :-)
On an A12 BIOS on my E7250, UEFI PXE booting doesn't appear in one-time boot menu and BIOS configuration (of course UEFI Network Stack and NIC w/PXE boot is enabled). After downgrading BIOS to A00, it magically comes back, but after updating back to A12 - it's gone again.
I've also tried A08, no option in here, so it was probably broken before.Legacy NIC boot works nicely and flawlessly.
Are there any Dell guys out here who could forward it to BIOS development team?

I hope that someone will be able to help me with a BIOS password for a Dell D600.
The service tag is JGY741J-595B.
The HDD lock (of which I know the password) says #*****3MZ319-595B.

Story: I took the laptop over from my company when all computers were replaced by a newly hired service provider (IBM). The previous IT service provider had put in the password and left. Obviously these guys cannot be traced anymore to get the password or a bill for this particular laptop of a few years old (if existing, guess they bought them in one big order). So Dell does not help.

In fact it is not such a big problem, just annoying. Obviously I know the HDD password, deleted the old windows, ran FDISK to remove the DOS partition, and installed Linux Ubuntu from CD. The annoying thing is that I cannot change the date/time (is blocked).

Thanks if someone can help out.

Its current bios string is pt84520a.10a.0020p.04.0209100915 This looks to me as if it is telling me that I have the a04 Dell version over the Intell p.04 bios. The 845e chipset should support hyper threading and a 3.06 cpu. Not knowing any better, I thought I would ask Dell tech support. Technical support rep 1 says no upgrade is available at all(I have a 2.4 in it now). Technical support 2 Rep says I have an 865 chipset(if that is true than this board will soon meet with a drop of water so that they can replace this board with another 865. Gee. I guess hyper threading would not be a problem then. Tech support rep three finally decided I have an 845e chipset which could go to 2.8(Sis squealed in delight at being right all along). I guess I am glad I didn’t have a glass of water near at hand. In any case, Dell's ao4 bios revision does not claim to support hyper threading. Yet all versions of the Intel 845e chipset supported hyper threading from the get-go according to Intel's product sheets. I think that Dell wants to hold on to that little secret as a strategy to preserve model line d... Read more

A:Flashing a dell with an intel bios? Truth or dare

Me thinks you will kill the puter dead if you flash to a non Dell bios. There is most likely one that works, but you and I don't know which one it is and the wrong flash will screw you fast. I have an asus board with a crappy HP bios on it, but asus doesn't even list this board as one of theirs. The A7N8X is a great board and mine looks exactly like it. Mine is an A7N8X LA and I would love to kick HP off this machine forever, but the fear of what will happen if I pick the wrong bios holds me in check. Don't try it without another bios chip or mobo in mind as a possibility.

I recently purchased a Dell Dimension 2400 from the original owner. I’ve discovered that the bios displays a string of corrupted characters and symbols in the Service Tag field that do not match the Service Tag sticker on the side panel of the PC. Moreover, when I boot the machine, a lengthy string of corrupted characters are displayed above the Dell Logo for 2-3 seconds.

Prior to selling the PC to me, the original owner “wiped the hard drive” making it necessary for me to reinstall Windows XP Home and the drivers, which I was able to do successfully. I would not guess this is related to the problem with the bios but perhaps I’m wrong.

I can live with this problem but would prefer not to. Has anyone encountered issue and if so were you able to correct it?

I updated the BIOS on my D600 to the latest version A16, last released 2005. Is a BIOS from the D630 released 2008 usable? They seem extremely similar.

A:Dell Latitude d630 BIOS usable on D600?

unless they are the same MB, I would seriously doubt that the BIOS are compatible. Also, are the bios not working on your current mobo? If they are working, there is no need to update.
