I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Greetings to all Tech Support Guy memebers...I'm new and go by Harry Hood. I'm not sure if I chose the correct forum for my issue because this may more of a hardware issue. My problem is that until today I have been using a logitech usb headset for all my audio needs for my HP desktop. Today I unplugged the logitech headset and installed the new HK speaker system as directed in the manual. However even though the pc indicates that the speakers are working there is no sound. None of the controls are muted...and when I unplug the speakers and plug the headset back in the audio's back to normal. Am I correct in guessing that a 'sound card' is necessary for the speakers to work?
I'm not real tech savvy but here's the owners manual "https://www.manualslib.com/manual/279093/Harman-Kardon-Hk695.html?page=8#manual".

And here are my HP system info:

I have a Sony VAIO laptop and I wanted to set up Harman/Kardan "Multimedia System" speakers with it. The speakers were originally purchased for a Dell PC. I could only get the volume to work on one speaker (the one without any buttons.) Is this a drivers problem?

A:Harman/Kardon speakers with VAIO

probly not considering the driver (if functioning) would produce sounds to both the left and right channels. right click your volume adjuster on the tool bar then select open volume control. check that your balance hasnt been moved all the way left or right. if its centered i would suspect an issue in the wiring of speakers. ie: broken connection between plug and speaker. test the speakers with a different device to see if both speakers play.

I have paired a harmon kardon bluetooth adapter to my lenovo t530 windows 7.  I can see it in "printers and devices"  I can't get the pc to send audio to it.  I called harmon kardon and they said this is a known issue and that i need to update my driver.  I checked the driver update features in windows and it says that my driver is up to date.  I called microsoft and that was a total wast of time.  They refuse to discuss the issue for free. Can you help me get my driver updated? Cliff Spitser

Hi Cliff,
Have you checked the Lenovo download page for drivers newer than your current ones?
You could also try running ThinkVantage System Update (may already be installed if you have a Lenovo Win 7 preload) and see what it finds.

Hi all,
I have a Creative Sound Blaster Live 24-bit sound card installed on my Dell Dimension 3000, and a Dell monitor with built in speakers. On my "not-in-use" Windows 98 computer, I had a a harmon/kardon speaker set. It provided a type of sound system that I don't get with the Dell monitor speakers on this XP computer, so I tried hooking it up to this computer, as an "add-on" to the other speakers. My SB card has blue, black, yellow, and blue ports. A microphone is using the blue port, and the monitor speakers are in the green port. I tried hooking the speaker to the other ports (yellow and black), but I couldn't get sound out of the speakers (I played music from WMP, and heard it out of the normal (built in) speakers, but not in the harmon/kardon. The harmon/kardon speakers are a green connector, so it may work in the green port, but I was hoping it could also work in one of the other ports. Does anyone know if it's something I'm doing wrong or if it's not possible to really do this?

Thanks, Jason

Hi, I have recently reinstalled windows xp sp2 due to some problems on my computer, and now everything is working fine EXCEPT for my sound. I have a Intel(R) Pentium (R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz 2.99 GHz, 2 GB of ram.
My speakers are harman/kardon satellite speakers ZYLUX-SZ and yes I did connect them to the right spot, yes I did check if the volume was muted or not, and yes I did check to see if it worked with another computer or with headphones. The other computer it worked fine, but this one is not working properly. I really want to fix this to listen to music and such. Thanks~

Hey guys. I have been experiencing a muffled sound from my laptop speakers. It happens when i am on Youtube and most other websites with sound, however, when I am on Netflix, the sound is just fine. I have tried adjusting speaker sounds and nothing works. It also doesn't matter if there are headphones plugged in, it still makes the noise. Another strange thing about the noise, is that not the noise doesn't happen every time I'm on my laptop. Someone please help!

I have a problem with the quality of sound coming from my Logitech external speakers. When I record using INport LP Recorder the sound from my speakers is muffled and not very loud. The same applies to sounds from my Age of Empires Game. On top of that, I get no sound at all when I try and play music from iTunes. Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit
The computer is an HP Pavilion p2 desktop model.

So I will just be listening to music and i'll hear the volume decrease, and the sound become muffled. Sometimes i'll be listening to music and the speakers will suddenly become amazing. It's been happening for several weeks. I haven't installed any new audio drivers or anything.

I can describe the sound as decreasing in quality significantly. Sometimes it sounds like it's clicking rapidly if you put your ear close to the speakers.

Any help is greatly appreciated. This is driving me crazy! LOL!

Edit: It's clicking more loudly now, to the point it's messing with my music.

A:Speakers Randomly Change volume, Click, and/or Become Muffled.

Reseat the audio cable at both the monitor and PC ends (unplug then plug back in) and see if that helps.

Plug a headset into the rear GREEN speaker jack and see if you get the same thing with a headset. That will isolate the problem to either the PC or the monitor's speakers.

Once I plug my headphones in or my hearing aids bluetooth device in, it all goes south. The internal speakers continue to work as does the bluetooth, but nothing is coming out of the headphones. Since I was once in IT, this problem is unique to the jack itself. Either the jack lifted up or was pushed back and never properly tested. The hook, I just received this computer 3 weeks ago to replace a faulty HDMI out port. I was told that there would be an open ticket so if I had any problems with this computer it would be attended to. Unfortunately, that is not the case.

With Dell Support Assist microphone test -- earphone playback is good, on-board speaker is terribly scratchy. The sound card lists as "ATI high Definition Audio Device" and "IDT High Definition Audio CODEC."
The laptop is Dell Studio 15 (1555) running windows 7 Professional, 236GB used, 214GB free space, Intel P8700 2.53 GHz Processor, 64 bit OS, 4GB memoryThe built-in speakers used to sound good but now they are too scratchy to understand. However the headset and external speakers (both 3.5 mm jack interface) sound good and a HDMI connected projector sounds good.
I will appreciate advice.

A:On-board speakers are scratchy but external speakers & headphones sound good?

Hello. As a test, switch from the IDT audio driver to the Windows native audio driver.
1. Open the Device Manager (find it in the Control Panel, or type devmgmt.msc into the search box).2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "IDT High Definition Audio Device".3. Select to "Update Driver Software".4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked.7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio" (the native driver).8. Click "Next".9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver). 10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted, then no need to restart.[To get back to the IDT driver, do it again but reverse the names in steps 2 and 7.]
If you get the noise while using the native driver then it is not a driver issue, which would mean there is a strong chance of speaker failure, particularly since the noise is not in headphones. If you would like to replace the speakers I can point you to the service manual.

Using a 3.5mm stereo mini phone plug to RCA jack adapter I have managed to connect my comps sound to the radio and it works. However, due to a fit of stupidity I have overlooked the fact that only either the radio's speakers or the computer's speakers can be connected to the computer's sound output at once.

I am wondering if its possible to have both my radio's speakers as well as my computer's speakers play at the same time because I would like to achieve a surround sound effect because of the way my room is made. My computer has a jack slot behind that looks like " (<-->)" , almost like that ordinary output one which looks like "(<-). Can that be used as an output slot as well? Cuz when I tried putting the radio into the (<-->) slot and the comps speakers into the (<-) or vice versa, only the one put into the (<-) will play.

How can I do it?

A:Balancing Satellite Speakers

Right click the Speaker icon in the tray - select playback devices. Balance control is on the levels tab, with all other options.

Hi everyone,

I've been researching and pulling my hair out, and starting to think what I'm after is somehow not possible to achieve.

My goal is to be able to record my screen, my speakers, and my mic (narration), while also being able to playback ONLY my speakers to my headphones.

Basically, I wish to monitor ONLY the speaker audio, WITHOUT my mic (narration).

I thought I could achieve this by using Realtek HD Audio Manager, which allows you to playback two different audio streams simultaneously. However, it would seem that only certain Windows applications which are written to give you the option of changing the playback device can take advantage of this feature. The particular Windows application which I am recording does not give me that option.

So essentially I am wondering if there is a way to force an application to output to a particular playback device, ie. the Realtek HD Audio 2nd Output. The Realtek HD Audio 2nd Output would play to my headphones (application audio ONLY) while at the same time I would be able to record my screen, my speakers, and my mic all together at once.

I did find this post which broke my heart as it seems this might not be possible due to Windows only providing a single mixer, but wanted to try asking around here too -> Different audio output for certain programs [Solved] - Multimedia - Apps General Discussion

I have two monitors (one VGA and one HDMI ) to the CPU (new XPS 8700), but sound only comes out of the monitor speaker with the HDMI connection.  The other speaker does work and has been tested with a 3.5MM speaker cable.
The video card is NVIDA GTX 745.  In the audio set-up control panel from the NVIDIA, I disabled audio from the HDMI thinking that I could then run 3.5MM cable on a Y splitter to the audio out port and by-pass the HDMI cable.  I tried every port and either experienced no sound or sound in one or the other speaker.
I realize these speakers are not the best and I am fine with them.  I like the clean clutter desktop look.
Can anyone help me to get both of these monitor speakers working?

I recently got a new HP zBook 15 with the slim docking station and am experiencing an issue related to the speaker output. If I plug my external powered Bose speakers into the line out of the docking station I get sound out of both the external Bose speakers and the internal laptop speakers at the same time. In addition the sound from the Bose speakers sounds horrible...tinny and completely lacking any bass. If I plug the Bose speakers into the headphone jack on the side of the laptop (not the docking station) then I get great sound and ONLY the Bose speakers produce sound (which is what I want). Is there a fix to get only the external speakers to play when plugged into the docking station audio out? I've uninstalled and re-installed the Conexent ISST Audio drivers twice...no change. I've tried messing with the B&O Sound Control panel, but it doesn't have any configuration for the audio ports. All Mircosoft updates installed. All HP updates installed via the HP Support Assistant. Latest laptop BIOS installed. Help! The sound output sounds HORRIBLE through the docking station. I had a home theater system I bought for a couple hundred bucks with the Dolby 5.1 speakers.

The CD/DVD player on the Home theater system broke after a couple of years. Not a big deal as it wasn't real expensive. Anyway, I went out and bought another cheap one.

Well, now I have these 5.1 Dolby speakers that sound great (I'm only a minor audiophile) to me. I went out and got a Creative Live 24 Bit 5.1 capable sound card.

It is worth mentioning that the 5.1 speakers each had there own individual port on the home theater system. In other words, while the Creative sound card has three output for the 5.1 system, the speakers I want to convert don't have the kind of set up right now to accomodate this.

Does anyone know how to transform 5.1 home theater speakers to 5.1 sound card with 3 sound outputs on a Create Live computer capable speakers? I can't imagine this has never been done before.

Thanks for all your help in advance.

A:Transforming 5.1 Home Theater Speakers to 5.1 Computer speakers

If the amplifier has RCA input jacks for channels, you could just use three regular 3.5mm stereo jack - 2 x RCA cables, just connect them correctly.

Another alternative, if the option is available, is to use S/PDIF, but then you wouldn't get multichannel sound from games (lack of Dolby Digital encoding).

If the headphone jack works, but the internal speakers dont, then it sounds like a hardware problem. The speakers may be faulty or not connected properly, or the mainboard may have a fault.

Hello guys!

Normally, I would not put such a question in a forum, as I am quite familiar with hardware, but there are unexplained situations.
My laptop model in the title came with windows 8.1, is working with 10 without any problems.

Yesterday I decided to make the creators update. Alright, it did without stress, in spite of one or another problem of hardware configuration drivers it went okay,

Then i noticied that I have no sound, neither the speakers nor the jack. I hear a punctual click and when doing mute / unmute it always clicks on the speakers, it does only in the left column, on the right it does nothing.

After doing the creators update, I made manual update to most of the drivers that there were available. I've tried all kinds of drivers from realtek and toshiba, including those from msft.

Now the strangest thing is that I did a restore from a backup one month ago, where everything worked fine and the problem remains.
I'm getting screwed because I can not find an explanation. The click on the speakers starts when windows is booting, in safe mode, being the sound service off no clicks are heard.

Even deleting the drivers and trying everyone and some more nothing works.
Eventually, if the speakers are failing, there should be sound from the headphones jack.
Has anyone had a similar experience you would like to share?

Why you have checked the Toshiba US page? I have a little bit searched on the Toshiba European page and there I did find your notebook and there you can also download all drivers:

You should try the Vista 64bit driver from this page. Maybe it will work?

By the way: Have you installed the correct BIOS version? The Toshiba website shows two different versions: One for 32bit and one for 64bit.
Make sure that latest 64bit BIOS is installed.

Hi all.

I've got serious problem with Toshiba Sattelite Pro C50-A-1KV. I've win7 x64 and Ubuntu 14.04 x64 on this machine. There was first installed Win7 and later Ubuntu 14.04.

I tried to use headset while i was logged on ubuntu and there was no sound, the sound was cutted off from speakers but headset was not working, when i plugged it off i have the sound on speakers again.

After restart i didn't have sound at all on ubuntu, and when i switch to windows the problem escalate to windows also. Right now it looks like some time the sound is on speakers, but headset is dead, some time there is sound on headset and speakers.

I've no idea what is the cause of the problem. The win7 and ubuntu were clean instaled, only updates were downloaded. I'm thinking that driver has some problems but how could I make it work. For testing i tried to use Skype and there was a situation where I have sound on speakers and headset but then microphone was dead -_-'.

I've got a few pieces of this and the exact problem is on half of them. I've got them from 2 deliveries.
The first onewas ok, everything is working. From the second one every one has this malfunction :/

I tried to do a backup on model where it's working and restore from back up windows and install new ubuntu but it didn't work out.

Any suggestions what may cause the problem or how to solve IT ?

A:Speakers headset problems on dualboot Satellite Pro C50-A-1KV

I think you should firstly clarify if your headphones are OK.

My theory is that your headphones could be faulty (maybe a broken cable or something like that) and therefore the speakers as well as the headphones would not work in case the headphones are connected to the notebook.

The notebook?s headphone jack supports an tiny switch which will disable the speakers while headphones are connected.

So in case the headphones are faulty, the speakers and headphones would not work.
Therefore I think you should check the headphones firstly.

If you are sure that the headphones are OK, then I think that there might be a problem with the mentioned small switch within the headphone jack.
Why? Because I cannot imagine that this might be an software / driver problem because the same issue appears using Linux as well as Windows system.

Both systems are completely different and an software / driver problem in both cases is almost beyond belief.

However, I would still recommend setting the notebook back to factory settings using Toshiba Recovery procedure in order to check if the sound problem would appear using Toshiba preistalled system and factory configuration

Usually this should works automatically and when external device is connected internal speakers should be off.

Anyway, I don't know if this will help but try it.

If yes check please if you see small yellow folder symbol on the upper right corner. Click on it and activate option for ?Enable auto popup dialog, when device has been plugged in?.

Next time when you connect external device choose option ?Headphone? and confirm with OK.
That?s how it works on my machine.

I assume your notebook goes into sleep mode when the lid is closed.

In such case you have to set the option ?Choose what closing the lid does? to nothing

This can be found in control panel -> Power Options -> in the left column

I'm using a Packard Bell laptop, Windows Vista and a Realtek sound card.

I've searched a lot to find how to NOT mute my laptop speakers when I insert something in the audio-out-jack.

The next threads say it's not possible by the hardware:
They're closed, so I can't comment on them.

BUT when I dual boot to Ubuntu (using the same hardware), I can easily choose to mute the internal speakers, or the jack, or none at all. So why can't it be possible on Vista?

I just changed from Bose Companion 3 speakers to Companion 5 because the 3 died. The 3 system used a stereo jack plugged into the headphone jack and worked fine until the Bose power supply(?) failed. The 5 uses a USB to connect.

I have an HDMI cable from my TV set top box to computer. Selecting the HDMI input shows only full screen TV display on computer. Also there is a coax cable from set top box to TV tuner card in computer. This allows TV to be displayed via Media Center in an adjustable window and I can open other windows (a browser, for instance) simultaneously. I choose which connection to use on my computer.

Previously with the Companion 3 speakers all sound came from them no matter the source. Now with the 5 speakers the HDMI TV source the sound comes from computer speakers not the Bose speakers. But if I play my music files (using Media Player) or TV (using Media Center) the sound does come from Bose speakers. Also sound from internet (YouTube, news videos, etc.) comes through Bose speakers.

Maybe someone has had this problem and knows a solution.

A:Some content from computer speakers and some from external speakers

I'm confused on where you plug in your hdmi set top box. Into your DISPLAY directly using and HDMI in port or some other HDMI in on your PC (like a graphics card?)

Also you have external computer speakers? do they plug in to your pc analog style? I know you said the Bose 5's are with usb.

Hi jc,

Welcome to the Forum.

Never seen one of these before, Try right clicking on the speaker symbol in the notification area, select Playback Devices, You should be able to select the speaker device that you want to use.
Right click enable/disable Hide/unhide
Left Click will allow you to configure the device after selecting Configure
Properties will also give you some options

I hope this helps

I have 2 Samsung TV's hooked up to my PC, as well as a set of speakers. I am able to set the individual sound of each (Volume Control Panel), can set certain programs on a certain TVs or the speakers, I can set any of them as the default, but I can't figure out a way to male them all work at once, having all sounds pass through all three. Is this possible?

A:How do I make audio come out TV speakers and PC speakers simultaniously

Not that I'm aware. You can only set a single "default" device in Windows.

Hi all,

I have a Dell XPS M1330 laptop and have recently upgraded to windows 7 professional (32bit) from windows vista. Everything seems to be running smoothly except I can get no sound from the internal laptop speakers. When I plug in external speakers in via the jacks on the front, sound comes through fine, but as soon as I unplug them there is nothing. Headphones also work like this too. Under sounds in device manager, it simply says 'High Definition Audio Device', and I'm not sure if I should be downloading some other drivers?

Any advice is welcome!

What do you have set as your default sound device? Mine is set to my external speakers.

Hi! Please bear with me ... I will not be using the correct terminology, but hope I explain myself OK all the same!
I have a DELL studio XPS PC With Windows 7. I used to have a DELL screen, with a speaker section attached, which belonged to my previous DELL. (Altec Lansing 5650 5.1 Surround Sound Speakers with Subwoofer set).
I ditched this due to the plastic attachments breaking, and the fact that I could only get sound from 2 of the speakers, not all 4, after changing my PC. I therefore thought it was an unnecessary amount of "hardware" kicking around my desk just for getting sound out of 2 speakers.
So, I bought Creative T15 Wireless (Bluetooth) speakers, although I use the wire directly into my PC due to not having Bluetooth. These worked fine to begin with - OK sound, so not complaining.
Now, I'm not sure whether this happened simultaneously with buying a New screen (a Samsung 24") but all of a sudden I started getting very scratchy noises coming from the left speaker. This noise comes even when unplugged from my computer. I contacted Creative who said that if the speakers work when attached to my ipod/iphone then there is nothing wrong with them:

That means the speaker is good. If speaker is faulty, the issue will remain the same no matter as to what device you connect it. Issue seems to be with your computer sound card's audio out. Check the settings in your computer, playback application settings . Reinstall/update the compu... Read more

A:Bad scratchy noise from speakers, but speakers OK. No IDE ATA/ATAPI???

I started getting very scratchy noises coming from the left speaker. This noise comes even when unplugged from my computer

If I understand that statement, your speakers have the scratchy sound, even when unplugged from the computer. Does this happen if the monitor is powered off? (trying to determine if there is some radiation from the monitor that is affecting the speakers).

Hello all,

I have a Satellite X205-Sli3.
I've been trying to find a way connect my laptop to my Logitech 5.1 speakers and subwoofer.

My laptop has usb, firewire, pcmcia, HDMI and a S/P DIF out port for 5.1.
My logitech speakers have three 3.5mm jacks that usually plug in easily to a pci soundcard on a rig.

I have looked all over for cables, splitters, converters in an attempt to convert from a port on my laptop to these three 3.5 mm speaker male plugs..
My first thought was to use the S/PDIF port sense it was used for 5.1 but all the forums i've looked at said it really was not true surround.

I'm an avid gamer and would like to hook up these speakers to my laptop.

Any help would be greatly appreciated so i can get these headphones off =).

Since restoring my laptop to factory settings (to solve another problem) it no longer recognises my external speakers when I plug them in, and I can't get any sound out of them.

I have checked and the speakers work fine with other devices.

Basically, my laptop is suffering overheating problems because the fan needs to be cleaned. I decided to give it a go myself and unscrewed all the screws underneath etc, took out the battery and cd drive and removed the plastic panel covering the speakers that has the power button and other buttons on it.

Then I decided to check the Internet for a guide to how to get to the fan. In the end it seemed more complicated then I had thought and I gave up but I thought I might as well give the speakers a little clean as they were pretty dusty.

So I got out a cloth and a cotton bud with one end covered with Wd40 and started dusting away an cleaning. Then I put the panel back in place, put all the screws back in the underside of the laptop and returned the battery and plugged the power cable in. But... When I pushed the power button it wouldn't turn on!

The little lights that indicate the laptop is plugged in and the battery is in are lit up but nothing happens when I try and turn it on. Also I can't get the cd drive to stay in, it keeps sliding out! I would really apreciate some help here!!!!!

Btw the model is satellite x200-251

It looks like something went wrong during disassembling.
It?s really difficult to say what part could be affected? it sounds a little bit like the CPU would be affected? maybe it?s not connected properly? I would also recommend checking the RAM modules.

The memory modules should be inserted correctly? Check this?
