I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Friend of mine has got problem with his desktop (XP SP2) , when he starts the PC it boots normally till it reaches where it shows windows XP logo then the screen gets blank (i.e he can not see the login name for users).

What he used to do: is press the sleep button on the wireless keyboard, then after that press the hardware switch on/off button (not the reset button) on the tower of the hard box.

After pressing switch on/off button, he gets directly (pay attention to this) to the login screen where he can see the usernames for all users.

He has to do this procedure every time he would like to boot the desktop

Hi every one,
Recently I purchased new PC,
After installing windows XP Pro SP3 I found that there is a missing button in Power option properties. The missing button is (When I press the sleep button on my computer), I can find only (When I press the power button on my computer).
My system configuration is as follow
Mother board Gigabyte EP45-UD3R Rev 1.1
My graphic card is ATI Radeon HD 5670
Windows XP SP3
RAM 4Gb Kingston DDRII
CPU Core 2 Quad 2.66 GHz
It worth saying that I can shutdown, hibernate or put my PC into sleep mode, so the functions are working but only the button is missing.
I will appreciated very much if some can advise me how to restore the missing button. Is there some option in BIOS that will enable this button?
I contacted Gigabyte customer support, but they directed me to Microsoft, I also contacted ATI but they directed me to Microsoft or BIOS settings. In my BIOS I can't find any option that may affect this button. Any advise will be appreciated
Best regards

A:[SOLVED] Button of (When I press sleep button) is not available in my Power option pr

Does the case actually have a separate Sleep Button? I suspect it's not even connected, as the motherboard manual doesn't show a connection for a Sleep Button, only a Power Button.
Windows Power Options won't list it, as it doesn't exist.

If you have a Sleep Button on the keyboard, it might not be listed in Power Options either. That would be up to the Driver software to add that option. You may have to use the software that came with the keyboard to configure the sleep button on the keyboard.

I have a problem with keyboard input. I have to type very slowly to get my keystrokes to actually get entered. I need to hold down each key for at least one full second or press the key several times to type each keystroke. This occurs on all four different keyboards that I've tried including a wireless Logitech that had the same results.
The PC is a Dell Inspiron 560, the OS is Windows 10 Home edition (upgraded from Windows 7). Any help will be greatly appreciated. The PC is practically useless like this. Thanks!

I'm having an odd issue wherein pressing a single key will immediately fill the entire allowable space with that key press.
For example, pressing the "a" key will fill, immediately, the entire allowable space with "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa". Similarly pressing backspace will immediately remove everything. Note the use of the word "immediately". It does not sequentially fill the space with the key input, the way it might if you held down a key, but rather upon pressing a key the text field is simply filled with that key all at once (to the best of my ability to detect anyways).
As a result, I am unable to log on to my Windows 7 desktop computer. The above was confirmed using the reset password fields.
At first I thought this was a keyboard issue, so I shutdown the computer, unplugged the keyboard, booted it back up (without a keyboard plugged in) and turned on the on-screen keyboard to try to type in my password. The problem persists.

Additionally, the computer will enter sleep mode within a minute of being left untouched (maybe 20-25 seconds by my count). You can probably guess that I did not set it to do so.

This computer is used by my parents and sibling, so I don't know what they might have done to cause any such issue. I verified that everything is plugged in as it should be, and that no unusual additions have been plugged in.
My sister was the last one to use the computer before the problem started. By her account:

Ok so here's the situation :

my friend's PC suddenly stopped working something like a month ago. He took it to some local computer repair shop who diagnosed a dead mobo and PSU.

They told him his mobo was now impossible to find and since I could get my hands on one fairly easily he asked me to repair it for him.

So basicly I changed his PSU and ordered a new INTEL D865GLC Socket 478 (his mobo)... I just received the damn thing and even with the brand new mobo the PC does the exact same **** :

I press the power button and absolutely nothing happens, nothing! Even the fans stay idle . What could be the cause? I even tried shorting the POWER SW pins with a screwdriver to make sure it wasn't the case Power Button but in vain.

I tried swapping mem sticks, changing PSU, tried removing HDD, DVD drive and GPU... no help there either.

Could it be a dead CPU?

Greetings. So I recently purchased a used Y50-70 and one of the first things I noticed about it was the left and right buttons on the touch pad require either a strong tap to register, or a long press (about 1 second) before Windows recognizes the key press. The trackpad works perfectly otherwise, even tapping for a left click on the pad itself works great. It doesn't feel like there is something under the button, but I do believe it is hardware related as this behavior persisted through a fresh install of Windows (ie. Windows install when I got the laptop and the reinstalled Windows). It was also present during the Windows install GUI which leads me to think it is hardware related somehow. Any ideas on what the problem could be? I thought this may be a common issue with a solution somehwere on the net but I have yet to find one... Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

Things I have tried are, re-seat the RAM also CPU, only 1 RAM. And no joy. When I press the power button theres nothing. No lights no leds. When I press the self test button several times, once in a while I see lights and fans working. I tried Memok on motherboard and no joy. One thing I did notice was when I remove the 4 pin CPU cable from PSU, the self test works instantly but the power button still doesnt work. Nothing, also did jumper on power l, reset CMOS. Could this be my CpU fried? Or the motherboard? I still need to take it out from case and check for capacitors etc..

I set my Dell Inspiron laptop (Windows 8) to sleep after 15 minutes (never to hibernate) whether on AC power or battery.
This allows me to take out my laptop from my bag, open the lid, enter my pin and get to work quickly.
One thing that baffles me is that when on AC power, I have to press the power button to "wake" the laptop out of sleep
instead of just pressing a key on the keyboard. The power button is this tiny chicklet metal button that is awkward to press.
Any way to set Windows 8 to wake on keypress when on AC power?

A:power button press to come out of sleep

You do not find it in Power Options to change power button from doing it? Only know ways if using an external USB device. Should be a sleep button or one of the F buttons or Fn.

Yesterday I bought a "N150 Netgear Wireless Micro USB Adapter WNA1000M", to give it its full name. No, this is NOT an advert, the thing is very small but very irritating - just like the donkey in Shrek. So don't buy one unless you must. No, not an advert for Shrek either - the first one was good but the follow ups were crap.

When I came to install it, after a huge amount of CD drive thrashing (why? my CD reader not good enough for you punk?) it finally gave me 120 seconds to press a button on the router (it also has a tiny button on the thing itself so there are TWO buttons to press)

Some questions:

1. How was I supposed to press a button on the router in a hotel? Especially in 120 seconds. Like a scene in a movie - "we have a 120 seconds before this thing goes off". As it happened, the router in the holiday home we are renting in Montana was accessible and I pressed every button I could see and it flashed in annoyance but the internet connection was finally made. No, this is NOT an advert for Montana either - the snow is crap right now.

2. Why does it want me to press a button on the router? When I first turned on my laptop it didn't ask me to press no button!

Thanks in anticipation
PS You can buy waverings on Amazon. Only kidding, only kidding. And yes - I am irritated at being accused of placing an advert in my first post

I have two new Windows 7 computers (laptops) that I run 3D design software on. I have multiple programs that utilize a simultaneous pressing of both left and right mouse buttons (not double-click). This command goes unrecognized in my software and is used extensively to go into 3d rotational manipulation.

I also have a mouse that has the central scroll-wheel button that will activate this feature, but the dual button press also goes unrecognized from from the mouse. My old XP computer recognized this input just fine. I have already been through mouse properties and found nothing obvious. I have also checked for updated mouse drivers.

Most of the well known software companies have Forums on their websites. I think it would be best to ask your question in one of those forums to get answers from people experienced with the software. I'm sure someone has already solved it for W7 if it is something essential to using the program, and not some trick that you stumbled upon that was only a unique system situation.

I've got a 1-2 years old Dell XPS-8300 pc and when I press the button to open the disk (CD) drive nothing happens. The only way to open it is using the Eject function on the computer which is a bit long-winded especially as the Format function is next to it. Oddly if it's already open pressing the button will close it.

Any fixes? The fact that it responds to closing suggests it's not a physical button issue. Could it be having the terrible twos tantrum?

A:Disk drive won't open when I press the button

I have had this problem on many occasions and now have a straightened paper clip nearby to poke into the small hole next to the cd / dvd tray door. Press the eject button on the tray door and poke the clip into the tiny hole this will usually open the drive door which is a hassle but better than listening to the tray trying its hardest to open and failing. If you don't poke the clip in fast enough the tray usually wont open but just repeat with the clip already inserted into the hole works for me. Not very techy but it does the job, you could also replace the drive of course. The clip method only applies if the tray is trying to open, if there is a problem with the pc not doing this then the clip method will not work so sorry if this is the case.

Okay, so I know so little about tech that I'm not even sure this is a hardware question, but it seems most likely. Basically, I know there's a button on the keyboard of most PCs that stops the keys (or maybe just the mouse?) from working. I only know this because I did it by accident once and freaked out because I thought I broke my new laptop. I want to do it now because I work a lot on small tables, and its useful to be able to highlight over my keys without pressing them all.

I thought it was that button that resembles a rectangle with two small rectangles, like a diagram of a computer mouse, except it has a line over it like a stop sign. On my keyboard, it's over F6. Only when I press it, and when I hold it down, nothing at all happens.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks guys!!!

Title says it all really. I haven't been able to shutdown my PC for a few months now without holding down the power button for a few seconds. I used to just leave my PC in sleep mode but, when this first started, it would often turn itself off instead of sleeping or enter sleep mode instead of turning off. A:What happens when I press the sleep or standby mode button?

All programs cease to function, the computer enters a suspended state similar to "off" but with a faster recovery time.

Be aware that many applications simply do not like being suspended and may behave unreliably when resumed.

Its usually more reliable on laptops, which have been designed with this feature in mind.

Hello, I recently noticed that the mute light (located on F5) had stopped turning on when I pressed it. However, I recently had to uninstall the default Audio Driver because of issues with this (also well known with HP products.) Is there anyway of getting the mute light back, without having to resort to the old Audio Driver?  Thanks.

I have a Dell Inspiron 3537 and every time I press the power button, it will reach the windows logo but then suddenly shuts off. On the second try it will start properly.
But I have generally noticed that it takes a long time to reach the desktop and it is slightly slower.
Any suggestions?

Thank you very much
