Connected to wifi 24/7, internet still goes in and out.

Q: Connected to wifi 24/7, internet still goes in and out.

Hey there. This is my first post on this forum, I hope that I can get some help here . Anyways, here is the issue that my roommates and I are experiencing with our internet.

Recently, starting just a few weeks ago, our internet began acting a bit strange for all of us. We are able to constantly stay connected 24/7. In our network preferences, it says we are always connected to the internet with full bars. For the most part, we all have perfect and fast internet connection, but for some unknown reason, every 45 minutes or so (sometimes shorter, sometimes longer), we won't be able to load anything on the internet from a range of about 5-10 minutes.

The strange thing is that even during these periods of time where we are unable to load anything, as if we had no wifi connection, all of our devices that we use the internet on said that we all still had a perfect connection. Even if we are sitting right next to the router with our laptops, this issue will still constantly reoccur as i described earlier.

What's even weirder is that sometimes things like video games on the pc that run in different clients (not the internet browser), will be able to maintain internet connection when playing online when the internet stops working for everything else. That is definitely what confuses me the most. How could a video game maintain internet connection for online play on the same wifi, yet none of our other devices are able to load anything? We won't even be able to use wifi on our phones during that 5-10 minute period, but it still says on our phones that we are fully connected to our wifi during that time of us not being able to load anything.

We've tried everything that we could think of to fix the issue, but non of us are IT experts, so that's why I decided to come here to ask for help. We've reset the router countless times, moved the router to every other area of the house, and even purchased a better router model to boost signal range by a good amount. The new router got some of us faster connections, but the issue, still, was not resolved. Every 45 minutes or so, the internet still will always just stop working, even though it says on all of our devices that we are maintaining a strong internet/wifi connection.

I'm just at a loss of ideas on what to do. We called Comcast (our internet provider), and they said they'll have one of their people come and check it out, but they can't come down until Friday. I haven't always had the best results with Comcast employees either. Is there any way that we could somehow fix this issue? It's just the most frustrating thing, and all of us are college students who are constantly using the internet for academics. Please, if there is any help or advice for us, we'd appreciate it so much! Thank you for your time.

Preferred Solution: Connected to wifi 24/7, internet still goes in and out.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Try assigning a free public DNS server on the router.

Hello:I've been having an issue with my Dell XPS Desktop (Intel Ethernet Connection I219-V Ethernet card).
When I connect this server to my router by an ethernet cable, all other other computers connected (Hardwired or Wifi connected) disconnect themselves from the internet. I get the same response when I connect to the Wireless Wifi as well.
It happens only with this Desktop running Windows 10.
I was told to change the DNS address to the OPENDNS Addresses - I tried and I had no luck. I do not have the Ethernet card or the Desktop in powersave mode. They do not go to sleep when idle.
Can someone please make any suggestions. Any input from your end would be very much appreciated.

I've been battling this particular issue for a couple of weeks now without much success. I have a custom built desktop where my WIFI connection will deteriorate to the point where internet (and gaming over Steam, etc...) will be either painfully slow or unable to load pages at all. Windows claims throughout that I am connected to my WIFI network with internet access and good signal, even when I cannot reach any internet pages.

This problem has happened at 2 different locations (on different WIFI networks), and with 3 different WIFI adapters (TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 PCI, TRENDnet TEW-684UB USB, Edimax EW-7811Un). At both locations, I have another laptop and a phone that can connect to the WIFI network just fine. I even got a couple of the adapters to work fine on the laptop without the issue.

I've found that disabling NetBIOS seems to temporarily improve matters (I'd read elsewhere that that can cause issues), but it has not resolved the problem. Also: I'm getting DNS errors in the Windows 7 event logs:

"Name resolution for the name XXXX timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded."

ipconfig results are posted below. Images of Xirrus (1) and its connection test (3) are attached. Any help is very much appreciated!

Hey everyone, sorry if this is in wrong area.

So today I bought a secondhand computer. It's a Toshiba Satelite L875D-S7230.

When I connect it to my home wifi it connects no problem and says 'internet access' when I hover over the icon. However when I open open google chrome or internet explorer and type in a site, it takes a little while then says this page cannot be displayed or this web page is unavailable.

The guy I bought it from says he had no issues. And I know it's not the internet because I'm using the internet to post this from phone.
I've tried a few ideas that worked for other people on other forums like using cmd box but to no avail.

Has anyone got any idea why the computer is being such a turd?? Can anyway give advice on how to fix the problem? Thank you all so much!

Currently, I can connect to my WIFI router, gain an IP address. however I am getting no internet access.
I have a virtual machine running on the PC, with windows XP, and this machine does have full internet access.

Problems and resolutions so far:
Windows firewall and security manager were corrupted and various services did not start however all are up now.I reset the TCPIP stack via command prompt.
I reinstalled Wifi drivers.
I ran the sfc and chkdisk commands. Check disk resolved some issues.
Netsh winsock reset
I did a traceroute and it hit my router, after there is a request timeout then it goes to a few addresses before stopping.

I am using a Toshiba laptop and it has windows 8.1. I have connected it to the home wifi which other devices are connected just fine to. When I open a browser the page states "This Page Cannot Be Displayed" and then when I diagnose the problem it says a problem cannot be identified. So then I will type in Google- it will populate and I can search for the site I want. But as soon as I click on the site the page states: This page cannot be displayed again.

I am far from computer savvy, but I know basic things. Here is my issue...
My HP pavillion dv6000 (yes it's old, I know) wont allow me to use the Internet. It says I am connected to my home wifi with 5 bars signal strength. My iPad and Droid both connect to my wifi and I can use the Internet fine. I actually have 2 Hp pavillion dv6000 laptops, and neither will connect to the Internet! Up until today everything worked fine and all of a sudden I can't open the intent on either one! I called Hp and they were no help. I have read other posts about people having similar problems, and tried the solutions suggested but nothing has worked! I need my laptop only because my wonderful iPad can't do everything I wish it could.

Help!? Thanks in advance!

My wifi is connected, but when I open any browser (Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Internet Explorer) It loads and then says I have no internet connection. I've tried troubleshooting, but it tells me everything is fine. The Wifi on our other laptop works fine or for my phone; basically any other device works perfectly fine, except my laptop. I've tried using CMD, going back on my Restore Point and nothing has worked, and if it does it's only for 3-5 minutes, and it gives me the same error that I have no internet connection. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I need my laptop for work.

OK ..

im sure this is something silly and simple.. at least I hope it is.

I have a laptop with wireless. ... I can search for wifi networks.. like the airport and starbuck... find the list of networks available.. and hit connect.. and it says conected.

Then when I open up my Web Browser.. nothing ! Page cannot be displayed. as tho i have no connection. I have tried it with a few different places .. like the public wifi places and still nothing.. and even on a private network in my friends house

Im sure its a setting or something.. though I have the automatically detect settings selected in the internet options.

Its like the computer is connecting to the network.. but yet its realising that OH I should be using this connection for the Internet !!!

Im pretty good at sorting out problems with PCs / Windows thou I have no expierence of wireless networks so am totaly lost.

Hope this makes sense !

A:Connected to WIFI but no Internet ?

When you seem to be connected, open a Command window and type
ipconfig /all

Does your wireless show "Yes" for "Dhcp Enabled" and for Autoconfiguration Enabled ? If not, you need to go into your TCP/IP properties and set to 'obtain IP auto' and 'obtain DNS auto.'

If your wireless is showing an IP of 169.254.x.y it did not successfully get an IP configuration from the router or server. Is there a chance that the wrong driver is installed--maybe one for the wrong region of the world (for example, US and Canada use channels 1-11 while most of Europe uses channels 1-13).

If not the above, post the ipconfig here. One way to do so is to type
ipconfig /all >C:\ipconfig.txt
This will put the results in the ipconfig text file on your hard drive; you can open it with notepad to copy and paste here.

My wi-fi is connected and says I have a strong connection however whenever I open up either Internet Explorer or Chrome, both say there is no internet connection.

This has been like this for about 25 minutes now. Prior to this, I was having issues with internet for the past day and a half. It would say I was connected but had no internet access. After removing a trojan and some malware that Norton didn't let me know about and getting rid of some of the programs I no longer use (including Norton), I now had internet access showing and it's a strong connection. UNFORTUNATELY, I can't even use the internet I apparently have access to. I've uninstalled and reinstalled drivers, I've disconnected and reconnected.

Baby steps I suppose, but now I've hit a road block. I feel like I've done everything possible but what would you guys say? Anything else I could try?

EDIT: I suppose I should mention its a Toshiba Laptop with Windows 7

Hello. I have an Asus U31JG with WIndows 7 64-bit. This laptop is a month old to me and the wireless has been acting up since the day I got it, will explain below. I believe my home network is the problem. I have a Linksys WRT54G with WPA Personal encryption. Multiple times a day my internet quits working even though Windows says it has full connection to my router. To fix this, I open command prompt and use "ipconfig /release" and "ipconfig /renew". This fixes the problem for me, it may be a minute or a few hours. The problem is very intermittent and only happens at my home which is why I believe it is my network. However, I changed the wireless channel to 1, the only one around on that channel and tried different security settings. My WiFi works flawlessly if I take my laptop to my friends house where he has a Netgear router. I have also tried a brand new Cisco Router as well as a Netgear router at my house.

I've re installed the driver twice, and the same problem persists in Linux only I just have to disable/enable wireless. Does anyone have any ideas before I send this thing back to Asus?

Note: When the internet quits working on my laptop it works on other devices so it is not the internet connection causing this. And my internet is very slow when it is working on my laptop via wireless.

It reports connected, no internet. This happened to a tp-link usb and a netgear, both new. Confusing.

Turns out, its a Windows 10 update. I tried both usb wifi adapters, editing the registry removing leftover entries between installs.

Still happened on both. Restored Windows 10 to before their critical update and the netgear usb wifi adaptrr (A6210) works. Be careful not to clean up after a Windows update as that can kill the restore possibility. Thanks Mickeysoft.

I am currently connected to wifi on my smartphone and using an app to tether it to the PC. Other laptops are connected to this network and it is working fine. Right now it seems like the wireless network connection is not receiving any packets of information. I have messed around with the firewall, but disabling it still does not change anything. This PC did not have any wireless drivers so I had to download them from the DELL website. As such they should be correct. I have restarted the computer since the drivers were installed, any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

A:Solved: Wifi Connected No Internet

The following was put together mostly by etaf with a little help from me.

Atheros Wireless Adapter - AR5007EG & AR5007
Over the last couple of years we have been seeing a lot of problems with the above adapters, mainly concerning WPA and WPA2 encryption and mainly on windows Vista.
We have seen just a couple of issues on other windows operating system, windows XP and windows 7.

Windows XP:- A driver update has resolved the issue
Windows 7 :- No conclusive results for a fix

The wireless adapter gets an IP configuration, and shows as connected, but communication is non-existent or sporadic.

Log into the Router and disable the wireless security and see if you are now able to connect to the internet and surf OK.
Please post back a reply here, and let us know if that works or does not work.
If you post back the make and exact model of the router - we can advise how to disable the wireless security

Here are a number of possible solutions

--- 1) In Device Manager right click on the wireless adapter and "update driver."

--- 2) Download and install the latest wireless driver from your laptop manufacturer's web site support section,

If you post a reply here with the Make and EXACT model of your PC, along with the windows version you are running. we will see if we can find a link to the driver and will post a reply with the link here.

--- 3) On one occasion re-setting the router ba... Read more

I have a Lenovo Ideapad 500 and I've been having internet connection issues since day one. Whether it's wired or wifi, it will say connected and it will never actually allow me to connect to the internet on any browser. It has Windows 10 and I've heard terrible things about Lenovo and Windows 10 issues with wifi. I've tried multiple fixes online and would appreciate any ideas on how to fix this issue where I'd be able to use the internet without hassle. Thanks.

Hello, sorry for the long message but I wanted to give as much detail as possible.Short version: Lenovo laptop with Windows 8.1 says wifi is connected and that there should be an internet connection but every +/- 15 min the internet stops working till I use troubleshooter or turn it off/on again manually. After that or even long before trouble shooter comes to a conclusion, the internet works again. Problem happens at my student house wifi and parents house wifi, both from the same company. My mobile phone can use the same wifi without a problem at all times. My network adapter is: Intel Wireless-N 2230.Tried all the solutions I could find but to no avail. It still happaned in safe mode (update: found out later there was an issue with my provider around the same time so it might still work properly in safe mode). Last thing I tried was uninstalled Lenovo Energy Management yesterday night and afterwards my internet worked for the entire evening till today, around 9 PM. Now my connection drops again about every 15 min.
Update: around 10 PM the internet started working again. I did nothing during this time period except continue to use Chrome when it worked and run windows troubleshooter which only said the usual "it's the router" thing. It didn't show it diagnosed or fixed anything. I didn't restart my laptop or opened/closed any other programs either so I don't know what caused the sudden disconnections or fixed them. There was no official reported issue from my pro... Read more

You pretty much covered everything possible. If you have not installed the full version in the below link which includes the intel software along with the drivers I would consider using a USB dongle like this one.

My laptop crashed and I took it to a professional to get it repaired. He reinstalled Vista and put all my files back on, but now I can't connect to the internet. Neither IE nor Chrome will work. When I click "Diagnose Connection Problems" it says "Your modem or router is not available" and none of the suggested fixes work. However, in the system tray it says I'm connected to my wifi.

This may be an unrelated issue, but when I click Start>Accessories, it opens two tabs with this link: redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TYPE=4&tp=iefavs&s=hpaccessories&pf=cnnb&locale=en_us&bd=all&c=83
Because of this, I can't get a snip of the Command Prompt as advised in the Network Posting Tips sticky. Is there another method to get that info for you guys? Would a screenshot work?
Here are my system specs:

A:Connected to WiFi, but can't reach internet

Please open a command prompt and type in the following command: ipconfig /all. Please copy and paste the output or take a screenshot. Also have you tried a wired connection? Can other computers access the internet? Can you access the internet from other routers?

how can i disable proxy server

A:WIfI is connected but no internet access

and welcome to the Forum

Lets take a peek at your network environment:

Power Cycle everything . . Turn off the Modem, router and all pc's . . turn on the Modem and wait a few minutes for the lights to stabilize . . then turn on the router, then one pc at a time. See if you connect to the internet.

Then: check your browser's settings, remove any proxy settings if found, here's how

with the pc connected to the router, Click on Start . . Run . . type CMD

At the > prompt type or copy and paste the following command:

ipconfig/all > 0 & notepad 0

and press enter.

Come back here and Paste the results in a message.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB drive, or a CD-R disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Hi guys, I have this problem that's been giving me a headache these days... I have a Dell XPS L502x with Intel centrino n6230 in tow.
Well, the laptop was working fine and all but started to have this weird connection drops in my work now and then, I blamed the router. Then it started loosing connection in my home too, it shows that the WiFi is connected and when I hover over the WiFi icon it says "internet access" but whenever I tried to access a webpage it won't connect... I blamed the network adapter and tried reinstalling and reinstalling the drivers and changing settings but none of it worked.
It literally is driving me crazy, but before I refresh the system I wanted to see if you guys can help me out!
Thanks in advance

A:HELP! WiFi connected but cannot access internet!

If you really do have internet access you should be able to ping a DNS server located somewhere outside your network. open a command prompt, Start > run > enter "cmd" and hit enter. type in "ping" if you get a response in replies you know that its technically working and connected to the internet.

There was a lot of great help with my last issue here
It seems Windstream solves one problem and two more appear.

After a two day outage at the beginning of the week, I was restored and thought all was well.
My desktop is wired and was finally working well.
My wife came home from work and couldn't get online.
Her desktop is wireless
I monkeyed around trying to reinstall the network adapter and a bunch of things.

The error was "Connected-no internet access"
It also affected my tablet and wifi enabled phone from Republic wireless.
I was able to get the desktop working by changing the TCP/IP settings but the phone and tablet won't work and I can't figure out how to configure these settings on them.
I have an Asus Android tablet and a Motorola Defy phone
The phone is more critical of the two.

The message on my phone is "Wifi calling disabled-click to configure"
I have entered the password several times but I can't figure out how to change the real settings like I did on the desktop.
It turns out my Wifi printer doesn't work either
