I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello Friends,

I recently purchased a Lenovo X230 tablet PC (3435-24U) and I love it.
After MUCH debate with Lenovo, however, I think I have determined this: While the unit has a symbol for a light (either backlight on keyboard or thinklight on screen) on the spacebar, this particular model does not have that feature.

1. It's a shame because it's a great feature, and I hope my diagnosis is wrong, but when I press the function key and space bar together, I get no light, and get a symbol on the screen of a light with a circle/slash through it. Seems like no light to me, yes?

2. As a fallback, I see that X230 BACKLIT replacement keyboards are available for under $50 on the internet and wondered if any of you had any luck switching out a non-lit keyboard for a lit one, either by yourself or with professional help.

Any insight on either issue would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you...

A:Thinkpad X230T - backlit keyboard installation

I am in the same boat. Recently bought an X230T and thought I was getting a backlit keyboard only to find it is not.I found a vendor on Amazon that has the keyboard, and am considering the $35 gamble on buying it and trying it.I've tried decoding the FRU numbers that Lenovo uses to verify I am getting the keyboard I need/want, but those things have about the worst description ever.Otherwise I'm loving the machine.

I would like to swap key functions (Right Shift and Page Up) on my new Yoga 710. I have read the  posts on this forum regarding Smart Key, Keytweak, etc which allow the remapping of the Right Shift key to the Page Up location. If I am understanding correctly, however, it appears that when this remapping occurs one loses the Page Up/Scroll Up function. If anyone has remapped their keys, is this true? If so, is there a way to achieve a swap which maintains the Page Up function?

i've got a thinkpad x230 with windows 10 installed.   i want to install linux on it whilst still keeping windows 10 in case i need it down the line. IS IT POSSIBLE a straight hard drive swap will do the trick?  if i just buy another SSD & put some linux flavor on it will i just be able to pull the old SSD (with windows 10 on it) out of storage in the future should i ever need it & have it work straight away?   or are things more complicated than that [ not interested in dual booting, etc.  too much of a pain.  nor installing VM software.  IF i can get a decent linux distro working i'll be using it as the main OS for a while ] cheers in advance for any suggestions, david

Yes. Or you can also use disk image software (example, acronis true image) to create a copy of Win10. Next time you want get back to Windows, simply boot into disk image software and recover from image file.

My X220t suddenly crashed on a reboot. It tries to start Windows 7 Professional but goes to a black screen with 0xc0000000e message. I don't have dvd drive or rescue disk. F8 shows the Hitachi hard drive is being recognized. All boot options don't do anything (e.g. last good info, safe mode).  I have a complete backup on Seagate backup drive but that won't let me launch a restore from it to the laptop. I don't care about the data but want the least expensive route to getting this backup up and going. I did try to create a bootable diagnostic USB but it just gives me "error loading operating system". I previously tried to update to Windows 10 but couldn't get past an issue with Wacom holding up the install. Any ideas?

How was the backup made? Can you get a copy of something like Memtest86+ and Hitachi Drive Fitness Test? It is probably a bad drive, but memory errors can cause any sort of problem. To run Hitachi DFT you will need to temporarily change the SATA settings in the BIOS to "compatibility".

Hello. My bluetooth works fine when streaming sound to a bluetooth speaker except for the following: If I have my right palm resting on the laptop, like you would if you were typing words, the sound cuts out completely. If I lift my palm off the surface, it works but it is not very comfortable or something you want to do for a long period of time. I tore it apart and noticed the bluetooth device is right below where the palm rests on the keyboard. I removed a screw and took out what I assume is an antenna and reseated it but that didn't make any difference. l doubt it is due to downward pressure as it feels pretty solid so I am guessing it is some type of electrical interference. This does not make sense because my hand is the new CyborgX RH80 model and it is certified to be free of this issue (unlike its predecessor model RH79). Any ideas on what is causing this issue and how to fix it?

Hello. I used a rescue disk to get my PC going again by reinstalling Windows 7 (boot sector issue I think). Wifi was not working at first but got it to work by reinstalling chip set update. I noticed the hard drive was half full with unusable junk so used the rescue disk to format the hard drive and then reinstalled Windows 7 once more. All is working fine but I cannot get the wifi working again even though I tried reinstalling the chip set. The radio button is on and its light shows up at bottom of monitor. It shows 2 network adaptors, like before: Intel Centrino Advanced N-205 and Intel 82579LM gigabit network. . Neither one has a yellow exclamation point next to it. I have tried disabling/enabling both with same result. Wired connnection works fine. Checked BIOS and WLAN is enabled. When using the "Manage Wireless Radio" app, I can power the bluetooth on and off but clicking the button next to 802.11 Wireless Radio does nothing. Also, the "Key Settings" icon at bottom has a NW to SE slash through it. I have used Lenovo System Update to get all but the KB2459268 Win 7 update (hangs up at 91% install). I have checked other posts on the issue and some have broken links so I am not sure if I missed something or not. Any ideas on how to get this fixed?

This is the 3rd time I've attempted a reinstall of Windows 7 x64 Pro on my T520 laptop with the same problem. Once the install is complete, there's absolutely NO support for a network connection - either LAN or WiFi. I've tried everything possible - downloading all the various appropriate network drivers and trying each one, installing the Lenovo Access Connections software, connecting with a wired cable directly to the LAN, checking the BIOS to see if WiFi adapter is disabled (doesn't give this option at all). I'm stumped and sitting here with a laptop that's pretty much useless unless I can figure this out. Previously, I've had to take it in and pay for a fix, but this is now getting silly. It was never a problem before. I've installed Windows operating systems dozens of times before and as long as I had the appropriate hardware and working network to connect to, the installation process would work just fine. Any help that could be offered would be MUCH appreciated. Thanks!JJ

Does the WiFi card show up in Device Manager or as an Uknown Device at all?   Have you updated the Chipset driver?      If it does not show up in Device Manager at all, then it is most likey hardware related, if it shows up as unknown, it is most likely a driver issue.

Hi all I purchased my Yoga 260 with Windows 7 and after a couple of months decided to do the upgrade to Windows 10. while I had WIn 7 I the laptop came with an application that did very good ink to text. Unfortunately, when I upgraded to Windows 10 and downloaded the software from Lenovo's site I didn't find the application. Can someone point out what the name of the application is? Is it available on Windows 10. As extra info, I can say that while loaded it remained docked on the left hand border of the screen, when using the stylus it could be clicked and a small bar with yellow background would pop up. I would write on that bar and recognition was great. Far better than on One note. Thanks, DC

Hi, on hindsight I should have asked this question at this forum first. But I was tired from doing all the researching and bit on an old x230 convertible laptop off ebay that supposedly has core i7 3520M, 4gb of ram, and 160gb ssd. It has been upgraded to windows 10. It has not arrived yet. At around $200, it seemed to me like a steal for the specs. I do think that these specs were user-upgraded and not factory-made so I cannot speak for the quality.I read rave reviews about this device, however, most were from several years ago. I never owed a device with this specs or a touchscreen laptop for that matter so I do not really know what to expect.I guess I will start out to see if anyone still second this as a solid convertible laptop in today's standard. Does windows 10 run well on it? Seem like a lot of people run into problems when upgrading to windows 10? Is there anything special about the touchscreen or is it just obsolete technology nowadays? I mean the most resource intensive thing I will do on this laptop is just playing some online flash games so I think it is way less than what it is capable of. I was just looking for a laptop that is upgradable and can stay relevant for a long time so did I make the right call? Any feedbacks are appreciated!

Ok, most of us know about this problem but I've not heard of any solution and I am becoming convinced that it is a software issue and not just a hardware/design flaw.... If one were to hold on the trackpoint, pushing it in one direction or another for too long, the computer starts to take control over the pointer and it fights against the direction you want to go. If you let go at this point entirely, the mouse cursor moves all on it's own. A work-around so far, is to occasionally let go of the trackpoint during use, and if you do this often enough, the problem just doesn't happen in the first place. But sometimes it's easy to forget this, and when that happens, it's an annoyance to an otherwise awesome design that overall just works... I want to work with the community on fixing this if we can, or getting help from the developers/drivers if need be. One thing, I have noticed, is that if you get the problem to occur (or purposely strive to re-produce the issue) the only way to get it to stop is to wait several seconds until the cursor completely stops moving.  If you try to fight against the cursor, or move in any direction, you just end up delaying the amount of time it takes for the issue to go away, so it's best to just sit and wait it out for a second while this is happening.  You could literally keep interrupting/fighting against it, and it will continue on in error until you give up.  Because of this, I suspect that an adjustment ... A:Trackpoint moves on it's own..... (Lenovo X220T)

From wikipedia: "A common problem of pointing sticks is the inability to identify the zero position (the position indicating no user touch). A typical solution, which reflects the fact that user operation of the pointing stick is rarely constant, is to interpret any absence of change of pressure (over a given interval, perhaps one or several seconds) as meaning the user has released the stick. If the user applies exactly constant pressure to the stick for such an interval, this method mistakenly re-zeroes the stick. Then additional pressure is required to achieve the same movement of the screen cursor, and the cursor spontaneously moves in the opposite direction when the user releases the stick. If the user avoids touching the stick, the error ends when the stick detects the real zero position." It's a fundamental flaw of any trackpoint device. The trackpoint is not a moving part so there is no natural way to calibrate for (x,y)=(0,0) that would be accurate for more then a few seconds of use. Once you understand why this happens you can even replicate the issue whenever you like by applying constant pressure in any direction; eventually the software will think this pressure state is zero and your mouse will stop moving, and when you let go the cursor will drift in the opposite direction at the same speed you started pushing at. The solution to the problem when you get drift is as you say, just let go for a second and the software will rezero the trackpoint.

I've finally found a way to resolve the inverted / vertically flipped / upside down webcam issue with the Chicony camera in the X220T and others when viewed with the Windows 10 Camera App.  FIrst, install the Windows 7 webcam driver for the X220T. This will create an error in the Windows 10 Camera App.  Then install the ThinkVantage Communications Utility. In the Windows Control Panel, click "Hardware and Sound", then "Lenovo - Web Conferencing". In the "Advanced Camera Settings", check "Flip" until the webcam image is the right way up.  Now, in Device Manager, go to "Imaging Devices", then right click on "Integrated Camera" and click "roll back driver". If this option is greyed out, click "Update Driver", "Browse my Computer", "Pick from a list", select "USB Video Device", then click next.  The webcam driver now in use should be the default one from Microsoft. However, if you go back to the Windows 10 Camera app, the webcam image is the right way up! Hooray! P.S. Considering the solution is so simple (probably due to some entry in the registry), I wonder why Lenovo hasn't already issued a permanent fix for this?

Hello and welcome,

I'd be inclined to do a clean install, followed by System Update.  Since Win 10 has already been activated on that machine you likely won't need the key.

You can download Win 10 direct from Microsoft.  I haven't looked at the MS tool lately and don't know if the download varies by version (Home, Pro, ...) but if it does pick the one that matches your key.

All, I'd really like to be able to purchase a wireless cellular card for my X220T that is capable of connecting with Verizon 4G LTE at 4G LTE speeds.   This is particular of interest since Verizon is strongly looking into Family Data Share Plans where testing is to begin either 2nd Quarter or 3rd Quarter this year. http://www.electronista.com/articles/12/02/28/verizon.to.bring.out.shared.data.plans.in.summer/ I contacted Sierra Wireless  about their AirPrime cards and they say that Lenovo has to flash the cards with some stuff before they can actually work on the Lenovo laptops.   So, I'd really like to be able to have one of the 4G AirPrime cards ready when Family Data Plans are made available.  I can turn my phone into a wireless hotspot.  However, that drains the battery really really fast (about 1% a minute).  The integrated solution is therefore the more ideal solution even when considering a card vs a usb stick.  I'm guessing the card would draw less power.  Plus you don't have to worry about carrying around a usb stick you may lose. This card should be tested to work with both Windows 7 and Windows 8.  And there should be a way to toggle power to the card on/off just like with bluetooth and wifi.  This list of AirPrime cards Sierra Wireless makes are here: http://www.sierrawireless.com/productsandservices/AirPrime/Wireless_Modules/High-speed.aspx I think the one that is neede... I'm also wondering whether there will be Lenovo support for MC7710 (LTE in Europe) in X220 http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/X220-support-for-Sierra-Wireless-MC7710-WWAN/t...   Yes, I could have waited for X230 but because of the ruined keyboard layout I had to buy X220. I'm sure it is technically possible but I fear Lenovo will not be willing to suport LTE cards in older models.

I'd really appreciate if someone could lend me hand with this issue, I'm going a little crazy trying to fix it. The Ericsson F5521gw WAN Module is detected and installed by the OS(Win 10 64bit) and Lenovo hardware scan picks it up but Fn+F5 utility won't switch it on, I can click the button till the cows come home to no avail, the WLAN and BT switches work fine though. I have tried cycling the hardware switch a few times and making sure the WAN module is enabled in the BIOS(it is) but nothing helps. Tried installing all the latest drivers but no luck. The only thing I can think of is I updated from Win 7 64bit to Win 10 64bit, WAN worked perfectly on Win 7, can't remember ever using it successfully in Win 10, I may have though. One thing I have noticed is no matter how many times I switch BT off it switches back on with a reboot. Is there perhaps any manual method or app apart from Fn+F5 to enable the WAN?Has anyone had similar issues after a Win 10 update, if so any fix possible?

Hello, Onthebutton1. What is the version of the wwan card firmware?2. Are there unknown devices in the Device Manager?3. As there isn't win10 support for the x220 officially, Lenovo drivers and apps are absent for this laptop. So, is the Hotkey Features package installed?4. Are Lenovo Settings Dependency package from the support site and Lenovo Settings metro app from the ms store installed?5. Any chance Airplan mode is enabled?Anyway, win10 should control the wwan radio itself, w/out Fn+F5 hotkey.

The webcam image on my X220T is flipped vertically under Windows 10. Will there ever be a driver fix either from Microsoft or Lenovo?

I've bought laptop Lenovo X230T type: 2325-2A4. I've made the full system instalation (Windows 7 64-bit) with all drivers. And on the laptop I can't use the finger screen touch (works only pen). Is it possible, that on that model there's no finger touch?

2325-2A4 is a notebook, not a tablet.  There is no touch - finger or pen

My ThinkPad X230tSuddenly stopped working on battery and works only on charger plugged in. I thought the problem was with the batter so I brought a replacement. I replaced the battery with the new one, but it didn't work, so I thought the battery was empty. I connected the charger and charged the batter full for an hour or so till it was 100% charged, yet, when I unplugged the charger the laptop was dead. What could be the problem?

Dear all, after going to sleep caused by low battery level, my X230T does not boot again- besides the sleep, orange battery and the WIFI LED there is no light. Those three are turned on constantly (no blinking) It does NOT help:- Change CMOS battery- Plug-in AC-supply without CMOS battery attached After all resetting measures, there are no lights turned on. After pressing the power button, the mentioned three LEDs will turn on. There is no fan, no noise from the computer. Do you have any idea? Thanks,Matthias
