I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Computer Turns Off Immediately After Turning On

First thing I would check is clogged fans or Ram covered in dirt causing overheat and shut down.
Next, Power supply. Pretty cheap. See if you can switch it with another.

I just made a custom computer by ordering all the parts off of Newegg, and as soon as I turn it on, a light left from the power button flashes green, and another light right of the power button flashes orange, and then it just turns off completely. This is my first time ever building a computer, so I have no idea what's wrong here.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have a  new, well 2 month old elitebook, cost 3000 dollars, could have got cheaper but wanted a reliable laptop!  The other day it woul not turn on, i tired and tried. I got a quick flash of the hp icon and the press escape to... (not long enough to read whole message) and then off it turned. Called HP support. The remote accessed and todl me to hold down speaker nd power 30 seonds and release. Repeat for 15 seconds and release. I did it and it worked, fantastic. Only one issue, it only lasts from 2 minutes to maybe 30 max and switches off losing whatever I am doing.    Today I made 3 attempt to write and send an emai, as it turned of after about 1.5 minutes in mid action. Lucky it has bow been on long enough for this. This is not a now and then, this is an EVERY single day!  and many many times a day.  They told me it happened due to static charge but I dont know that I buy it ie I am in a nursing home, I am in bed 24 /7, why would it be that and why so constant?

I've had my notebook since September 2014. On 15 or so occasions since then, I've touched the notebook and have received a static shock either from the edge of the casing, the mousepad, or the keys. When this happens, my notebook turns off completely and immediately; there's no graceful power down, there's no message saying why it's turning off, the screen just turns black and the PC just shuts down completely. Any unsaved work is lost when this happens. It's not a pleasant experience, to say the least, not only because of the shock itself, but also because I'm never sure when my notepad is just going to turn off whenever I touch it. Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

My computer keeps turning back on immediately after shutting down.  I have tried many fixes but none of them are working.
I went to the command prompt window and typed in "powercfg -lastwake", it didn't find anything.  I also typed in "powercfg -devicequery wake_armed".  It only displayed NONE.  I checked if there were any wake timers active, but there aren't any.  I've made it so that my mouse, keyboard and network adapter can't wake the computer.  I also had a look through the BIOS, and it doesn't look like wake on lan is active.
I have no idea what to do.  Please help!
My specs are:
motherboard: Asus Sabertooth 990fx r2.0
Processor: amd fx-8350
Ram: 16gb
OS: windows 8.1 64 bit
If any additional specs are required, let me know. Thank you in advance.

I just tried unplug my power supply and I plugged it into a different outlet and it works now.  Not quite sure why but I guess it's fixed.
Thanks anyway!

This morning I came to my computer and it had a BSOD from my wireless adapter driver. This has happened a few times before. But when I turned it off and tried to turn it back on, it wont start! As soon as I press the power button, the lights flash and the fans get one jolt of power causing them to spin and die out immediately and then everything stops in under a seccond. What could be causing this? I did add a new new hard drive to my computer yesterday, but it has restarted fine a few times since then, and unplugging it didn't fix the problem. Other than that, I can't think of anything that is different that would be causing this. Any ideas?

Just this morning I was on my PC and about an hour later my PC just shuts off. I press the power button to start it back up but a second later it turns back off. The lights in my tower and my fans start up for a split second everytime I do this but continues to turn off right away. I surfed the forums and found that people were having similar issues which lead to the PSU. At first I thought it was my PSU because within the last year I've upgraded my PC with a new HD (7200rpm 1TB) and a new graphics card (Geforce 9800 GTX+). I figured after a year of these upgrades it took its toll on my PSU. My current PSU is 500W.

These are the steps I've done so far:

1. I unplugged my HD and the power to my graphics card and got the exact same problem.

2. I heard that taking out the 3V lithium battery from the motherboard and putting it back in could fix the issue. So, I decided to just buy a new one and put it in. Same problem.

3. I completely took out my PSU and put it my brother's 650W PSU in. Still, sadly enough, the same problem.
I am all out of ideas here. Please help.
UPDATE: I've tried removing all USB/PCI components one at a time until none of them were in and I'm still having the same problem.

Hi, There seems to be a problem with the power management on my T570. I have two batteries, and I think the main one to be used is the battery 2. Sometimes, I'll be working unplugged, and my computer randomly turns off. Not the usual "Windows turning off" sequence, but an immediate blackout with no feedback. When I turn the computer back on, I see that Battery 2 is at 0% and Battery 1 is now in use. It does seem to be a problem in the power management, no? Thank you,Fred

A:My computer turns off immediately when Battery 2 reaches 0%, even if Battery 1 is 100%

Sounds like power management or battery reporting status wrong.  Are you still under warranty? If yes, call support first.  Can you get (borrow) another battery to try?

Seems I have the same issues as "someonedying" had,

here's my spec.

CPU - Intel Core i5 760 - LGA1156
RAM - 2pcs of Corsair Dual-Channel DDR3 2GB
VidCard - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 470
PSU - Fortron/FSP Everest 80Plus 800

when I turn my computer on, all the lights, the fans together with the MoBo lights turns on for 1 second, then it turns off for 3-4 seconds then turns on again until the OS loads..

when I restart my computer, this doesn't happen anymore.. It only occur when I completely turn the computer and UPS off..

I bought this system a month ago. I have to option to bring this to the shop where I bought it but I want to know what the possible issues are.. Most of computer shops here in our country replaces some parts w/o the owner's knowledge.. >.<

Please help.. Thanks =)

Seriously, I'd take this back to the shop and have them fix this at their expense. I would also take note of the parts you have now and compare them when it is returned.

I have an HP pavilion dv7 and when I press the power button it will turn on and I can hear the fan for about a second and then it will shut off. Sometimes it will stay on for 2 seconds, etc... then shutoff. I don't get any beeps or flashing lights. It just shuts immediately off when I press the power button. What could this be?

Kind regards,

Also i noticed that when I plug the AC Adapter in it will turn on then off immediately but if I take the battery out and leave the ac adapter in then the laptop won't even turn on at all. The AC Cord is working though because I plugged it into another laptop and it started charging it.

Hello, I have an HP DV2715nr and when I turn it on, it turns right of, some times it stays on for 1 second or 3 or even 5, but it never goes to bios unless it turns on right so there's nothing i can do software wise until it works. The fan always turns on and the lights, and the light to the hard drive. It does the same thing without the hard drive and it never goes into bios. It will eventually turn on right and when it does, it runs fine and never turns off unexpectedly. The only error I get is when I run the resource and performance monitor: The devise, adfs, is reporting "tv_ConfigMgrErr24". This device will not be available until the issue is resolved. The Plug and Play Id for the devise is ROOT\LEGACY_ADFS\0000.

The last thing i remember doing when it was working correctly was deleting my XP partition from my Win7/XP dual boot.

A:Laptop turns off immediately

Install a new drive using your HP System restore disk set.
You may be able to rescue some of the date by placing the drive in an external USB enclosure then dragging and dropping the critical data that was not in the partition you damaged.
If you don't need the data on the defective drive, and do not have a restore disk set, you can buy the restore disks from HP for $27 - $35, depending on number of disks, including FedEx shipping... or using a Windows XP Professional disk in R for Repair mode...
You might also be able to run Windows 7 disk in repair mode, although I have not tried that.

I switched from win 7 to win 10 about a month ago. No major problems until yesterday. The pc shuts down only a few minutes after loading windows. If i then turn it on again, it shuts down almost straight away - before it's even finished loading windows.

I tried resetting windows but it won't stay on long enough to do it. It got to 6% then shut down. I don't think it's a virus - well i have kaspersky anyway and that isn't reporting anything.

Unfortunately i can't get into safe mode on start up with win 10.

I'm at the point where i'm thinking i need to throw the pc away and buy a new one because it won't stay switched on for long enough to do anything.

Any ideas gratefully received thanks

This computer was running fine about 4 months ago. Since then it has been in my closet. I decided to finally upgrade it to Win10. It booted up fine. I disable the GWX Control Panel and clicked the taskbar upgrade icon to start the upgrade. 5 or 10 minutes later it simply shutdown and did not restart.

I restarted manually and it managed to get to the Windows Welcome screen and then shutdown. Now when I try to restart the power LED lights up for about 1 second then shuts down again. Doesn't even get to post anything on the screen.

Any tips for this one?

Hey all,
So I am writing on behalf of my mother.  Her laptop (HP Pavillion dv4 circa 2009, running on Windows Vista) won't start up properly.  Upon pressing the power button, the screen goes immediately to white.  No mouse, no HP or Window welcome screen, nothing.  I've tried turning it off and back on (multiple times), Ctrl+Alt+Del, and pressing the F8, F10, and F11 buttons (the ones I read were most likely to take me to the safe start/reboot mode) upon start up, but to no avail.  This happened for the first time today, she came home from work and started her computer and it did this.  She thinks the last she used it for was Facebook and online banking, the night before.  I don't know what else to do as thoe are the only key combinations I could find, and her screen will not display anything but pure white.
Can anyone help me?  I will try to get more information if you need it, but as I can't get the computer to start, it may be somewhat limited.
Thank you so much in advance!

I have read a few other threads that have a similar issue but not the same. I am thinking it is either the mobo, GPU, or PSU.

I'm building my own PC for the first time, but when I run it, something weird happens.

When I flip the PSU switch to be on, it immediately gives power to everything before I the power to the motherboard is activated.

However, nothing actually shows up on the screen until I activate the normal power. When I do it loads OS, everything becomes normal...
When I click Shut Down, it does shut down - but all my fans are still spinning, and it seems like they're receiving power when they shouldn't.

Someone told me that the problem might be caused by a BIOS setting that automatically turns on the computer when there's power, and that setting should be off.

I went into the BIOS to check that setting, I think I found it but it was already on 'off'

It was called "AC Back Function"

So that must not be it as it was already off.

What is the problem, and how can I fix it?

A:Turning on psu turns on pc

Hi, every morning when I turn my PC on it turns itself off after about 5 seconds. Once it's off, pressing the on button does nothing. I have to flick the PSU switch at the back off and on again for the front button to turn the computer on again. It'll then turn itself off again after a few seconds and I have to repeat the process. Eventually it decides to stay on and it boots up fine.

Any ideas what this might be? I'm worried that one day it just won't turn on at all. One thing that might be worth mentioning is that if we've had a powercut in the house at all, even when my computer is switched off, when power resumes and I turn my computer back on, it tells me there's a CMOS checksum error and my BIOS settings are restored to default, as well as the time in Windows being set to 2003. How can this happen when my computer wasn't even on at the time of the powercut? No idea!

Any help would be great, sorry for the long post.

Gateway M-6851

I start up the laptop, and at different times up to 3 mins later, and as early as 30 seconds later it shuts off.

It doesnt matter if im starting up windows or in bios setup it shuts off.
my only clue is that after a long period of not trying it, If I start it up then, I get the longest powered-on times, and shorter every time after that.

That leads me to believe it is a heat problem.
Another note, is that this gateway has always had heat issues, a single fan to cool everything
Before this happened, while using the computer, it maxes out the fan speed and then reduces the power to compensate, which even though this computer can run some good games, about 3 mins into the game or less the framerate gets cut from 45 to 9 usually along those lines.

Anyways, I'm looking for suggestions, could it be something else that doesn't involve removing the heatsink and fan and applying new thermal compound, or should I probably just do that and see where I'm at.

Also if anyone knows of a quick bootable heat monitor program, that would probably work.
The bios is very bare no temp listing, and even in windows I could only see the temps, never control the fans.

I have a Windows Vista laptop (from my Father-In-Law) that I am trying to clean up because it is running extremely slow and you can't seem to get to IE and browse anywhere.  I downloaded TDSSKiller onto the laptop and tried to go into safe mode with networking.  However, when I got to the screen to arrow down to safe mode, the enter key was pressed on "Repair Computer".  (I was multi-tasking with my 2 yr old daughter, need I say more?).  Not knowing what that was actually doing, I let it run for about 30 minutes and then killed it by hard booting the laptop (I was not able to do anything else).  Now, when I try to turn it back on, it turns on but then a couple seconds later shuts off.  I can't seem to get it to stay powered on.  And, during these couple of seconds, the screen stays black - no flash screens of any kind.
Is this fixable or do I owe my FIL a new laptop?
Thanks for your time and help!

My P855-34Q was bought in 2015. I used it for a couple of weeks, then got a laptop from work. The Toshiba has been kept since then in a drawer in my living room. Dry, no temperature swings, dust free. Same place where I keep my work laptop and where my husband keeps his 10 year old Toshiba. This week, I needed it for some virtualization (which my laptop from work nor my husband's laptop is good for)

- Took the battery out and measured its output. Normal output voltage

- Measured the output on the AC adapter. I measure a voltage of 19,38 Volts, so normal.

- Without battery, only connected through the AC adapter, tried turning it on. Same behavior.

- Without the battery, and without AC feed, I held down the power bu... Read more

A:Satellite P855: when turning it on, it turns off again after three seconds

Forgot to mention a test I also performed: I hooked up an external monitor as one of the first tests, to see if it was the laptops display that caused any problems. But nothing on the external display (connected via HDMI).
