Lenovo Yoga c930 fan noise after heat and little shake

Q: Lenovo Yoga c930 fan noise after heat and little shake

Hi I bought a Lenovo Yoga C930 notebook few days ago, If I put it on the bed for few minutes the heat goes up crazy and the fans are running to the max. Worse than that one of the fans make horrible noise if I shake the laptop, its like it hits something either the cpu or gpu of the plastic base. This is obiviously a manufacturing fault, what do I need to do to fix this?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a Yoga 910 FHD and it has a continuous fan noise and heats even after unistaling Qualcomm Atheros WLAN and on Quiet Mode at BIOS. When I uninstall it the problem stopped, but it's back again and I don't have a clue to solve it. Have anyone passed through the same problem?

i just bought the new c930 (not yoga book but the yoga c930 ) and i installed all upadtes etc but i have not been getting the battery i expected. when i scroll my mouse to the battery bar, it constantly shows around 6-7 hours on full charge. all i am doing is web browsing. Is this normal? i expected to get around 9-10 hours for the web browsing. Also keep in mind i am on better performance so not the best performance or anything. Ya if i lower the performance even more i might be able to get a little more but i dont think thats normal. I dont have the 4k version either just the regular. If this is expected then fine but i am not sure.

I received this laptop as a replacememt of my defective yoga 720 the 18 October. After somw days of usage I can finally say that I ve got scammed by Lenovo, who sent me a testing unit with so mant problems! - Wacom pen and touch issues (such as ghosting and deas zones)- TouchPad gets disabled and became uselsss until next reboot. It also feels weird and it is kinda loose and imprecise! -KeyBoard acts weird and there is a noticeable input lag that I just can't stand since I am a programmer. -Hibernation/suspend/who knows who causes the impossibility to Wake up my laptop from sleep. When it happens I can only hard shut it down. - I've found some strange stats in the battery report that makes me think that I've received a testing unit with all of these malfunctionnality. My EMEA casw manager does no longee respond to my emails and I am willing to sens back this laptop and receive a refund or a new replacememt ( BUT NO MORE IDEAPAD LAPTOPS). If someone is contact with Lenovo I can send my case number. This is just unfair. Can't trust this Company. Check my YouTube Channel for the linked problems : https://youtu.be/5_daR-j7CQ8

Hi, after purchasing my Lenovo Yoga C930 in November 2018 it worked completely fine until 4 days ago. At some point, I started noticing some slight flickers in the form of very thin lines that would span over the whole screen width. I then updated the Graphics Card drivers which solved the problem for two days, then it came back. Since yesterday, there are now some hug screen flickers (similar to this, but a bit less bad: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6SIHJYWsFCI ), which are increased if the laptop is on battery mode as opposed to when it is plugged in. I tried to see if there was a difference between the different power modes in battery mode, but it doesn't seem to be the case. All the drivers are up-to-date and I am very dependent on my computer for work, so I would rather not send it in if I can avoid it in any way. Has anyone had this issue with a C930 and managed to get rid of it? System information:Windows 10Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8550U CPU @1.8GHz 1.00GHz16GB of RAM Thanks in advance for useful feedback!Cheers,Julia

Hey folks, I got the Yoga c930 and so far I'm loving it, save one issue--my shift key feels kind of loose (but sticky) and makes a different noise if you accidently hit it the wrong way.  Since it's not a pc-breaking issue, I don't want to have to send it in unless something else goes wrong, but I was wondering if anyone has tried any DIY maintenance on Yoga Keyboards.  I'm worried I might break a clip since even though their are videos for the Yoga 710 on YT, I don't know if they switched up the mechanism for this generation.  It sitll registers the click, so functionally--no issue, but it feels like a defective key that could just completely break out of the blue.

Good day, I just received the Lenovo Yoga C930 and the pen doesn't work. The laptop does't recognize it and there is no way (app or settings menu) to install it, syncronize it or try it. Microsoft Windows 10 pen settings is for the surface pen and the Lenovo Pen settings is for the Lenovo Pen with the top bottom. Nothing for the fancy new pen that is stored in the laptop (not even in the product guide - way to go Lenovo!).  I have been trying to call several times Lenovo technical support and the dial menu is horrible. I haven't been able to reach a technical support representative for the Lenovo Yoga C930. This is the worst service per purchased item prize I have received in my life.  I really hope that someone can help me. This purchase was supposed to be a good experience and so far it is just pathetic.

HiI have a lenovo z51-70 for 3 years now didn't had any problems in particular with it until this morning after i boot it up it worked fine for around 4-5h playing gta on it and from all of the sudden my fps dropped to 20 fps and the laptop just turned off , i tried to boot it up again seemed worked fine started playing again and after 5 min another shutdown , i left it 1h without touching it and decided to turn it on again but this time after the boot up screen fan started to be really noise like when the cpu its used to max powers and the laptop itself acting really laggy , i've been searching on google and asking friends for any solution to this problem and most of the answers i got is that the fan its filled with dust and because of that cpu its overheating and causing the laptop to crash + noise my question is how can i open up the laptop without damaging any components or causing it to not boot up again any videos or a manual would be great ( i'm deeply sorry for the long commentary ).Thanks alot.

I just got this Lenovo a few weeks ago and it has worked fine until today! The screen was flickering every few seconds, so I followed the steps I saw on the forums to fix it. Nothing worked, so I tried rebooting my computer to see if maybe the drivers needed the computer to be restarted to work. Now, the laptop won?t turn on. The LED shows the machine as being powered on, and the keyboard will light up, but the screen remains completely black. The Lenovo logo doesn?t show up or anything. I?ve tried rebooting with the AC adapted plugged in (even though the battery was fully charged), I?ve tried restarting holding down shift + f8, and holding down the volume up key too. Nothing happens.

There is a reverberating sound when the sound of the speakers is incresed. Very frsustrating since the speakers were one of Lenovo's unique selling propositions for this laptop.Another problem is the noisy fan which seems to work non-stop although no other program is working besides the browser and the bottom is quite hot. Hello, We have 3 docks (Dell D6000, Thinkpad USB C dock, and a pluggable usb c dock) at our office and just recently purchased this laptop to connect with one of the three docks and use 3 external displays. For some reason, when connecting monitors to all 3 ports on all three docks, we are unable to get all 3 displays and the laptop. We can only get 2 displays and the laptop as a third. That being said, on the pluggable dock, we were able to get all 3 externals and the laptop as a fourth about 1 in every 15 or so connects. Otherwise we get 2 displays and the laptop. If we disconnect one of the displays, we can get one that was off to turn on, but we are again stuck with 2 displays and the laptop. The Think pad docks gets all of the displays, but at horrible low resolutions (it has 2 DPs and a VGA). Their is no consistency at all and I'm trying to avoid returning the laptops. We have checked that the latest drivers are installed and installed the displayport drivers from their website. Another weird thing is that sometimes the docks are charging the laptop and other times it shows "plugged in, not charging" on all 3 docks. We have a dell that is not as nice body wise, but connects to all 3 docks and gets 3 external and the laptop, but these yogas are nicer. Is what I'm trying to do possible with this laptop?

A:Do Thinkpad X1C6, X1Y3 get the same level of support from Lenovo as the Yoga C930?

Are you talking about calling Lenovo for warranty problems, or this forum?  If calling, "Think" products are handled separately, but X1C and X1 Yoga should be the same as each other.  If this forum, you are most likely to get the most help on products that are most widely distributed.

There's been times where the screen just shuts off, and I need to close and open the laptop again to get it to work. Hello everyone. I just had to come to the forums and post this text that I wrote to the survey Lenovo sent me after my initial service case: I sent my brand new Yoga C930 to be checked because of light bleed both bottoms corners of the screen. They received the laptop on January 2nd and on January 7th I asked what the situation was, they told me it was being prosessed. On January 14 I again sent a message to customer service asking for an update since I didn't get any updates unless I asked (which is really bad service). They replied that according to the service center there wasn't enough light bleed. They then sent the laptop back. So for a week the laptop was just laying somewhere at the service center and only after I asked about it did they send it back. When I got it back I noticed the service person had scratched the laptops hard metal hinge. So now I had light bleed and  a scratched laptop. He hadn't even used the protective sleeve I had put the laptop in (sleeve came with the laptop). Instead he had forcefully jammed the sleeve in the box and put the laptop in a random plastic bag... At that point the laptop had been gone for a month and now the only way to get a replacement metal hinge is to send it back to Germany AGAIN. I have no idea how long it will take this time, or even if it will be returned in any good condition. I can say I have lost all my trust in the Lenovo service center and I am disappointed that Lenovo does not have any service in... Read more

Hi all, I bought this bad boy back in July and have been thoroughly enjoying my experience with it (save for the screen issue discussed in another thread). I was fine with it since it seems to have gone away on its own and I couldn't afford to be without the machine for as long as it would take for them to fix it. The last few days I've been noticing near-constant fan noise. It picks up when I'm on Chrome or running some statistical computing software (R and Stata), but even without these applications running there is a noticeable amount of fan noise. Has anyone else experienced this issue? What have you done to remedy this? Thanks!

Hi All - my laptop is approximately a year old and in relatively good condition. However, a few days ago a loud mechanical sound began coming from the right side of the laptop which I think must be coming from the fan but I'm really unsure. It sounds sort of like an engine running and is much louder than the typical sounds of the computer, and only goes away when tilting the computer 45 degrees to the left. Any ideas on how to fix this issue or am I done for?

A:Lenovo Yoga 500-15IBD loud fan noise

Hi Nstant,  Most probably a program or App is running at the background cause fast spinning fan to cool down CPU temp.  To figure it out, right click in your taskbar and from the opened menu click on task manager.  -From top menu click on performance tab then click on resource monitor ==> from top menu click on CPU tab and look at to the Average CPU usage and see which App or Program is using a high percentage of your CPU capacity==> right click on it and end the process.  .Regards,  **If the issue has been resolved please, mark me as solution provided to help others find the solution easily and click the Kudos.**

Hello there. I've bought lenovo yoga 700 for just 4 months and it has fan noise problem recently. It sometimes has fan noise like running a huge apps, althought i just starting up it and open light apps like internet, and office. When it comes, the battery just can hold up to 2-3 hours. But, the other time with the same condition (openning the same apps), the fan noise literally too silent that i have to get my ear to the source to hear the noise. and it comes with the battery life much longer between 7-10 hours. Why it comes like that? Is that any settings that I have to set? or? Thank you.

To start, I have seen the thread about a high pitched noise issue with this device's fan, and I don't think my problem is the same one. I have an ongoing issue with my Yoga 3 (full specs below), where for most of the time that the fan is spinning, it makes a loud grinding noise as if there's something stuck in the fan or the blade is off balance. I've only had the laptop for six months and it wasn't a problem when I bought it - it's developed since. The fan still seems to cool the laptop properly, and I've had no warnings from the device, but it's audible in quieter rooms and definitely isn't normal. I've installed the BIOS update that was recommended for a similar fan issue, and I've used OneKey Optimiser to run the fan cleaning tool several times - nothing has changed so far. I'm not sure what to do next. Should I attempt to open the machine and clean the fan unit with compressed air/investigate further, or should I contact someone about a repair? Thanks Aaron

Hi aaroncawte ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

As what you have already described , seems that you have done what is needed fro the fan noise issue.
Noting that the issue is mechanical in nature , please give tech support a call for the needed service .
No need to open the chassis for further steps not to invalidate the seal / warranty and have the tech run further check.

You can however run Lenovo Solution Center for the hardware test just to check on other parts that can also be affected and likewise temperature check at the moment of the noise for baseline data.

A:Lenovo YOGA 720-15lKB Noise All the time

First, find out what's causing it. Chrome does have a nasty habit of consuming a lot of resources. That's less Chrome's fault than the website you're visiting. Bad code in, say, an ad window can give Chrome fits.

The other thing that causes fans to run is background programs. Windows Update and virus scanners consume a lot of resources. Thin computers.  If you launch Task Manager while the fan is loud, you can scroll down through the processes to see what's sucking up CPU resources.

Let us know what you find.

I just bough this laptop. When first booting it up, it started making a strange rattling noise (as if a card got stuck in the fan or something) and i noticed it comes from the left side of the fan. It stopped on its own after a while then started again for a short few seconds. Now on the second day, I turn the laptop on and the noise comes back for a few seconds. It has a 512 SSD so it can't be the storage. I ran a hardware scan from the Vantage app and no error came up. It my laptop damaged? Should I return it and get a new one?

Hi, I recently purchased a Lenovo Yoga 530 with an AMD5 processor. I had to send the first one back because I got a BSOD twice. I 've received a new one and unfortunately there's this one thing I can't overlook. The other one had this probleem too. Every 20 minutes or so, the laptop makes a horrible loud fan noise. Something you would not expect from a modern laptop (I think), it sounds like an airplane is taking off. When it happens I'm usually working in microsoft office or just browsing (or both), and when I'm at the library studying it sounds so loud I'm scared it will disturb others lol.  Is there anything I can do to minimize the sound? I already looked around on the internet for tips but usually the descriptions of possible solutions are a bit complicated for me (I don't know a lot about laptops) and I'm also scared to mess up my laptop. Any tips woud be very helpful.  Kind regards, Mary

Hi.
Welcome to the forums.

Can you please post the full model number of you Thinkpad? Are you using Windows 10?

I have a TP Y 14 (20DM008UUS) with one of those ThinkPad In-Ear Headphones (57Y4488) (and Windows 10 64bits) and I don't apreciate any static sound while hearing music or videos.

How are you disabling the Nvidia drivers, from Windows Device Manager? Disabling the NVidia display adapter worked for you to remove the noise sound?

I always try to keep the Thinkpad Yogas driver up to date. Do you want to give it a try updating the Nvidia and the Realtek drivers?

Let me know your model number and we will check the support page for the latest drivers.

My Lenovo YOGA 510-14AST (purchased a few weeks ago in August 2018, runs on Win 10) gives out very loud fan noise for 5-10 secs once initiating the smallest task (e.g. opening a pdf. or a new tab in Chrome). This problem happens more often when the laptop is charged. Probably caused by high CPU usage, which during standard browsing, sometimes rockets up to 85%. Strangely, when in task manager I add up the running programmes, it does not give me the indicated 85%, but usually around 40%. I tried various "small fixes" from the forum/internet, like lowering max processor state, getting rid of background apps. and installing all the (I think) Win 10 updates. None of it seems to help. Also, the battery lasts ( standard usage - browsing and win office) shorter than advertised. So, I am wondering if these are common problems of this seria or a hardware/ other problems, and if there are any solutions on how to solve the fan noise.  I am not so much of a tech-savvy, and had a budged for a cheap laptop only, so would be grateful for any help or advice.

Hello, I bought a used Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 15 for gaming purposes for my son. The computer works great except for one annoying feature. The computer will just randomly vibrate and make a buzzing sound. The remedies I have tried are as follows: Updated windows, updated drivers, turned off touch screen, turned off track pad, (using a mouse with usb), and turned off the windows button usiing the software called Sharp Keys. We have also taken it apart and cleaned out fan. It is out of warranty. Does anyone know what this could be? I am exhausted as to what to try next.? Seems to be worse during gaming (roblox) and videos.  Just a mom trying to keep the peace with the computers. (Not Tech savvy).  Thanks!

I put my headphones in the jack today and heard a weird background noise. When I removed them, the computer speakers were making a loud buzzing noise as well.  The buzzing noise comes and goes and disappears if I mute the computer's volume.  I cannot hear any audio on my computer now (no music, videos, noise at start up/shut down, etc.). I have tried updating the sound drivers and restarting the computer several times, but to no avail.  I have also tried to get sound with and without external speakers attached, with and without headphones in, etc. and I can only occassionally get the loud buzzing noise which is coming directly from both of the speaker vents on the bottom of the computer.  Thoughts on a solution?
