2020 search toolbar

Q: 2020 search toolbar

I am trying to help a person that isn't very computer literate. She has the 2020 search toolbar on her machine and her parasite software is detecting it as a trojan but won't clean it. Is there an online scan or tool that will clean this trojan?

Preferred Solution: 2020 search toolbar

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: 2020 search toolbar

Download CWShredder:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/CWShredder.exe
Run and hit the ->fix tab to fix all found problems

CWShredder takes advantage of security holes in windows so you should install all critical as well as hotfixes available from windows update.
Then repost a fresh Hijack this log .

Download 'Hijack This!' http://www.spychecker.com/program/hijackthis.html and save it to a folder on your desktop.
Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log, load it in Notepad, and copy its contents here. Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.

A:Cant delete 2020 Search

How was it "removed" originally? Have you deleted the programs folder for it? Are there any executables still running?

If you are just seeing it in Add/Remove programs and no place else, that's a registry edit.

You must find the listing for the program under this key (run regedit):

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

And right click on it and delete it. It's possible it might be one of the "clsid" keys (numbered entries). If you don't find a program folder name, you must open each clsid and look in the right pane for it. If you are in doubt, don't delete anything, or select File > Export and save the key first as a reg file. You can restore it by doubleclicking

Hello robertpwns and welcome,

We will begin with ComboFix.exe. Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/comb...o-use-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:

The Recovery Console was successfully installed.

Please continue as follows:Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.
When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Please include the following reports for further review, and so we may continue cleansing the system:

C:\ComboFix.txt

A:Search Toolbar on IE

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After we are finished with your log file and verified that it's clean, you may turn it back on and create a new restore point.

Hello Everyone!

Can someone please help me. I accidently clicked on an ActiveX and it installed the AZE Search Toolbar. I have tried to use spyware removers but it wouldn't remove the Search Toolbar. Before I came to Tech Support Forum i used Registry Mechanix and it seemed to remove the (AZE) Search Toolbar file, but it's still in add-ons of my Web broswer, and i have disabled it.

I have read and followed the instructions in the "Please, Read This Before Posting A Hijackthis Log." thread. Please help me to get rid of the AZE Search Toolbar and any other virus' when you have time. THANKYOU for reading my post.

Have a nice day.
Love, cobevanlacobe.

I ran the KRC HijackThis Analyzer program to get this new log below.

Hi,
I found this message on my toolbar that say failed to retrieve buttons from My Wed Search. How do I get rid of this? I am having problems downloading anything, uploading files, pictures. When I went to download from your site, the hijack program, it saved the file but not in my start up like you said, not even sure where, but my notepad seems to have a file ran from it. I never even got to run a scan because I can't seem to even find it. Every time I try to use my hp printer it says it is missing files. hpqpse.exe is missing not even sure why because I uninstalled the printer and reinstalled it and still missing files. I am attaching what I found on the notepad but like I said, I never ran scan.

hi,

If you still need help, download and post a FRST log and we will go from there:

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/farbar-recovery-scan-tool/

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system, download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.

Right-click FRST then click "Run as administrator" (XP users: click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File).
    When the tool opens
    click Yes to disclaimer.
    Press the Scan button.
When finished, it will produce a log called FRST.txt in the same directory the tool was run from.
Please copy and paste the log in your next reply.

Yesterday I turned on my computer to discover a toolbar called "search toolbar 7.1" accompanied by a bunch of annoying pop ups saying I had viruses and needed to purchase their anti virus software, etc. My homepage was also changed. I ran my regular anti virus software, it didn't do anything. I then noticed a few things on my add/remove list that I didn't think belonged there. I ran spy bot and that removed the toolbar, the annoying pop ups and the mysterious items on my add/remove list. Spy bot said there was an item that it couldn't remove...can't remember what it was called...it was under my Progam Files and named video-add on, or something similar to that. I have a feeling that not everything is removed from my computer. I'm no expert when it comes to computer, but from checking out other forums I'm assuming that by running hijack this and posting the log on a forum such as this that maybe one of you could help me :)

Also, seemingly at the same time, Active X controls have been disabled on my laptop and I can't seem to reenable them.

There should be a law against people putting stuff on your computer that you can't remove. I called Microsoft and they told me I had to pay to get rid of it. WTF?????? I will not, nor can I pay. I'm on Social Security. This is BS.

Can someone tell me how to get rid of it. And where did my Microsoft Security Essentials go? Now it's missing from my computer. Oh.... I really need this today.

Welcome to TSF.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After we are finished with your log file and verified that it’s clean, you may turn it back on and create a new restore point.

Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing/visible also.

Before you do anything else, please create a folder for HijackThis and put it in a permanent folder (like C:\HJT) instead of the Desktop. This is required because HijackThis will create backups.

Make sure to close any open browsers you have. Check and fix the following in HijackThis (make sure not to miss any):

Please help - I have installed the following on a PC that had only Norton AV, was out of date and infected with all kinds of nasties.

Adaware
Spyware Blaster
Spyware - Search & Destroy
Grisoft AVG

I have resolved the problems thrown up, including Messenger Plus' sponsor software. But there is one last thing - an annoying toolbar that opens the first time IE is launched. You can click X to get rid of it but its not ideal. I believe its called the LOP toolbar and when clicked it takes you to a page of the Open Web Search variant. It doesnt appear to interfere in any other way now that the above has been installed.

I will post the Hijack This log and a picture of it as well hopefully

Can anyone help me??

A while ago I installed some shareware and at the same time without telling me it installed this stupid toolbar in my internet explorer 6. I couldn't remove it... It doesn't show up in add/remove programs, I can't find any files on the harddrive relating to it, and even if i 'uncheck' the toolbar to hide it, it's always there the next time I load up IE! It won't go away!

I recently uninstalled the original shareware but it's still there! It's a blue toolbar with a "search" field and it seems to be from the site www.tfil.com However the site gives no indication of this toolbar or how to deal with it.

It's really getting on my nerves!! Anyone?

A:Annoying Search Toolbar in IE!!

Run AdAware or a similar program to get rid off spyware/ads.
If that doesn't help perhaps it's listed in the startup.
Click Start -> Execute... and type msconfig, then check the last tab about system start for strange entries.
That helped me a while ago with a bootup problem which could not possibly related to that program in startup.

I researched topic on this site and ran hijackthis per some earlier threads. I read the fix for items to check and those recommended items were not in my log.

I also wanted to add that I have run spyboot and adaware and neither helped (and it seems that this startium bar is allowing viruses to work in as nortons is finding a new one every scan (despite no internet activity other than coming to this site).

My log from hijackthis follows:

Hi Mule47

Welcome to TSG!

I have moved your thread to the Security forum.

A new version of Hijack This has been released so get rid of the old one and Click here to download the new one, come back here and post the log from it.

I see you are running Hijack This from a temp folder now. This is a bad idea because it cannot create and restore backups from there. Before you download the new version create a new folder in My Documents and name it Hijack This. Now click on the link I posted above and when the box pops up asking you to Open or Save choose Save and save it to the Hijack This folder you created. That way it can create and restore backups if needed. HJT will store the backups in the same location that it is run from.
