I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:ePowerTray and ODDPWR has stopped working

i tried many times to open the gadget menu..but it didnt started..restarted the computer many times..and on each trial still didnt get to open it..both of the "has stopped working" box appeared each time..after countless tries..eventually i managed to open the gadget menu..and i suspect one of the gadget is causing the trouble..its the CPU meter by orbmu2k..it also didnt appear on the desktop like other gadgets and i even couldnt uninstall it..the CPU usage get alot higher than usual when i started the gadgets..so i closed all the gadgets..but what does it has anything to do with the epowertray?

Hi, so the problem I'm having with ATI Tray Tools is it installs fine, but will not start, it will throw a "ATI Tray Tools Has Stopped Working" error. I have tried all of the unsigned drivers tricks (press f8 then select the unsigned driver option every boot, I used DSEO (Drive Signature Enforcement Overrider) to start in TESTMODE and signed the appropriate drivers, I tried ReadyDriverPlus0 and none work. In fact, the srvinst.exe works and reports that the low level drivers are operational. So I've narrowed it down to the atitools executable itself, which I've tried running in admin mode, in compatibility mode for Vista SP1 and SP2, Windows XP SP2 and SP3.

Windows Defender is disabled and so is UAC. It's really frustrating because there are so many nice tweaks in tray tools, and everyone else seemed to get it to work using the unsigned driver method. I don't have any form of anti virus or ant-spyware installed, so I can't see what the problem is.

(just another thing to mention, compatibility troubleshooting never works on my rig, odd, because some of the programs I use should start fine in XP mode (no that I want them too, but its odd that they don't), but they dont. It's almost like Compatibility wizard does nothing. Whenever I try to use it, it doesn't even through an error, it just does nothing, the program won't show any sign of starting or an error.)

A:ATI Tray Tools has stopped working error

By the way, I am running the latest beta of tray tools, which supports windows vistax86/x64 and most people seemed to get it working.

DeskTopAgent Tray has stopped working and various issues
Windows, Vista Home Premium, 64bit

Also, due to several issues I reinstalled.... a week ago.
Notice I still am getting Dell logo at login.
Suspect something is still, lurking & it is not yet, right with the DeskTopAgent Tray has stopped working error message returning.

I would greatly, appreciate, HELP-at this point I am at a loss & keep going in circles. This is list of issues revolving...
1. DeskTopAgent Tray ERROR-??? Have followed suggestions to disable, and select startup programs, several times.
2. Occasional Updates were not downloading correctly, so far at this time all are downloaded "Successfully."
3. IE-8 issues (resolved by switching to Firefox-love it!)
4. Driver issues with printer, and Adobe (resolved and reloaded so, far)
5. Now, am not sure completed reinstall, with Dell logo, appearing at startup.

Every time I try to fix a problem another arises and frankly, simply worn out and tired.

Thank you.

Hi -

Go into the Device Manager, expand the tree branch for Bluetooth and un-install all devices found. RIGHT-click then select Uninstall. Re-boot. Vista will re-install upon boot-up.

Whether that helps or not - I know the laptop is a month old, but... go to your system manufacturer's web site and see if updated drivers are available for bluetooth & all others as well. Look for chipset, video, audio, wifi, Ethernet, etc...

Hello:
The mouse started to stray and stopped working in the middle of doing something, i.e. eBay, typing word and etc. which is very annoying and first of all, I lose all of the work done due to stopping of the mouse.

However, the mouse started working as if nothing wrong, once I restarted by 'force' restart ..... pushing the button in the middle of the PC. Otherwise, the PC is all fine and working OK.

I did apply Malwarebytes to combat the issue, however the issue does not resolve.

Any help on this would be truoly appreciated.

Thanks,

A:Mouse stopped working in the middle of working, i.e. eBay, typing word, etc.

Did you try a different mouse? If you still have the same problem with a new mouse, see if there are any drivers for the mouse from it's manufacturers web site.
Also try a Clean Boot, if that works, then add one startup item at a time till the mouse acts weird again, then you know that is the problematic program.

Thanks so much

P.S. my router is a linksys WRT300N Wireless-N Broadband router

A:Wireless router suddenly stopped working (Lights still working though)

what devices do you have connected the router anything else wireless
make and model of the pc

does the PC work if you connect to the router by a cable ?
if not
try connecting directly to the modem and see if that works OK

we need to see some details, which will mean you need to copy to a working PC

{run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector} Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC

http://www.xirrus.com/library/wifitools.php
Direct link to the program is here http://www.xirrus.com/library/wifi_download_redirect.php
Then run and install the program
if you get an error - You need NET Framework installed for the WiFi Inspector to function.

Run the program

post a screen shot of the program running - if there are a lot of networks showing can you click on "networks" top lefthand area - so we can see all the network information, and also post which network "Adapter Name" (1st column) is yours on the list

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file.
To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

I have had a rather large problem over the last couple of days. It started earlier in the week, when one drive stopped working. Not a big problem, I've had drives fail before. 4 disks, so i can handle one less for a little while, i though. Not so though, while still waiting for my new drive, using my computer like usual (with less load on unit D) i suddenly start getting write-errors to D:, and the Intel Matrix Storage Console lists it as Stopped Working instead of Degraded. Nothing changed except for the status of the Volume, all the disks read the same as before, fully functional.

I have very little experience with these sort of matters. This is the first time I've lost a drive where i might lose data as well, and i have pretty much no idea where to go from here. I've tried to replace the faulty disk with another 500GB drive, but the RAID-setup in BIOS just tells me there isn't enough space, and the Console in Windows places the new drive as a Non-RAID drive. I can mark it as reserve, but that seems to be all i can do with it.

I'm not, hopefully, asking for miracles. I have just two things that i really need to retrieve from the Volume, my Firefox sessions (saved in a separate folder at the root of the drive), and my Thunderbird mail, (stored in their standard location, as my whole Windows-profile is on that drive). Everything else i can get again. (Well, not really, i have stuff stored up from 8-10 years back, from people who has withdrawn from t... Read more

Okay, this is the weirdest problem I've ever hard with computers. Here's what happened:

1. I had a few years old Pentium D 2,8GHz processor running on Asus P5VDC-X mobo. PQI 566MHz DDR2 and GF 7600GS 256mb PCI-E, 350W power.
2. I updated the mobo to Asus P5L-MX to support faster PCI-E cards. Everything worked fine, despite the processor ran too hot (58C on high use)
3. Because of the overheating I replaced the thermal paste but it had no effect on the temperature.
4. I thought I used too much paste so I replaced the paste again.
---
5. Bang, no video when I turn on the computer. I tried taking off everything part by part but nothing worked. It didn't work even when I only had processor and used the integrated graphics port. Tried resetting the bios too.
6. Nothing worked so I put back the old P5VDC-X and it worked like charm.
7. I thought it was logical that the problem was caused because of the mobo so I bought a new one, Asrock G31M-S.
8. No video... Did the same steps to this one too. It also had integrated gfx but it didn't work either.
9. The old P5VDC-X still works.

So I have no idea what's causing the problem. Is it the CPU? Mobo? PSU? RAM? I have no speaker on my case so I can't hear any beeps, but it won't start loading the OS from the hardrive and my USB mouse won't turn on. Tried using a differen't monitor too.

The main point is why it stopped working suddenly on new mobo's but still works with the old P5VDC-X? A... Read more

Two new motherboards tells us you made the same simple install error in both of them.
Tell us more about power supply, memory, cable.
Did you make sure the memory was correct for both new boards, and what is the memory on the old board. Would also like to know the power supply and other hard ware.
What happens with the most basic, simple install. Does everything light up?

If you used the same hard drive with the same Windows install on the two motherboards, that is the problem. Windows has detected that you have changed the motherboard and will not operate unless you reinstall Windows on the drive on each new motherboard... One install for each motherboard.
My guess is that you will be fine if you change hard drives or do reinstalls or repair installs of the Windows on the new motherboard.

Vista Ultimate 64-bit, ASUS Rampage Formula motherboard, USB mouse and keyboard connected in back ports.

Two things happened: Avira antivirus warned me of some threats which I either ignored or deleted. Windows Update had some updates ready (although I'm not sure if it updated).

I turned off my PC for a couple of hours, turned it back on and realized that my USB keyboard was not working on the password screen.

I eventually unplugged it from the back and plugged it into the front, where it worked. However, my USB mouse did not work when plugged into the second front port, nor did it work when plugged into the front port in which the keyboard worked.

I accessed System Restore using my keyboard and restored to one day previously. When it finished, both keyboard and mouse worked, although I got a pop-up message alerting me that the "drivers for your device could not be installed." When I clicked "OK," the mouse stopped working again.

I have checked BIOS and both mouse and keyboard are recognized, so it does not appear to be a hardware issue.

I have an Optiplex 170L tower with a 2007FP display, running XP SP3.  (Yeah, yeah, I know ...)
I have always had the USB hub on the display connected to the tower to make using flash drives easier, since the tower sits on the floor at my desk.  Suddenly, Windows has stopped activating the hub.  Even worse, it thinks the hub is "new hardware" but refuses to reinstall it.  That damned "new hardware wizard" thinks it is a "USB Device" rather than a root hub and even manually pointing it at the folder where USBHUB.SYS is located doesn't work ("this location does not have information on your device").
I know the driver isn't corrupted because it runs for all the other USB root hubs on the tower.
I also already tried the trick of uninstalling all the root hub drivers (except for the one that has my keyboard and trackball connected to it) and rebooting.  All the USB hubs on the tower get reinstalled as "new hardware" and then the wizard can't find the driver for the hub on the display.
The only thing I could think of is that maybe Windows wants an .INF file specific to the display hub (although why it didn't before is a mystery) but I don't think such a file exists, nor am I well-versed in creating those.
Any and all ideas are welcome ... this is becoming maddening.

Hello everyone!
This is my very first post so I am sorry for any mistake.
I have a bothering problem. My VPN, which I configured through the "Settings" page of Windows 10, stopped working. It happened already yesterday, then I restored the system to a previous point and then it worked again. Now it has just stopped once more.
When I try to connect to my configured VPN, the writing "Verifying access information" hangs on, then nothing and then a red writing like "Unable to establish a connection with remote computer. The port used for connection has been closed" appears (more or less this, considering I have it in my own Language). Then, even if I configure another VPN, exactly the same thing happens.
Can it be something corrupted? It would be very strange, considering it happened also yesterday and in both cases I was doing really nothing, it just stopped working.
Any idea? Thank you very much!

P.S.: I have already done network reset and uninstalled and reinstalled network adapters. The only thing that worked, even if just for a while, was restoring the system to a previous point.

Client keeps getting the IE stopped working message.
We did a "Reset" of IE through the Control panel.
We uninstall IE 11 and have IE 10 installed. But it also get the error.

Error log states that there is a error with Kernelbase.dll in C:\Windows\sysywow64
I have seen "Fixes" to remove this file but then there have been postings about it being a system file and NOT to remove it.

Is it safe to delete or rename this kernelbase.dll file?

I see a lot of REGISTRY Cleaners out there that say they will clean up this error, but I do NOT trust the cleaner?
Will CCleaner solve this issue?

Or is there a GOOD SAFE remover for this error?

IE will not stay running but we do have Chrome running. The client is like me he does not want anything but IE for a browser.

I have a HL-DT-ST DVD+RW GRA-4120B installed in my Dell Dimension 8300 which recently stopped working. I also have a Samsung DVD-ROM as well , which seems to be working fine. The tray door still opens, the green lite goes on, I install a disk, the door closes and the lite goes out and stays out. The drive is still visible in "My Computer" etc., it reads the device is working properly, but it will not recognize any type of disk. so far I have uninstalled an re-installed the driver to no avail. Is it possible the unit is shot? I only have it about 1 1/2 yrs. but have burned a lot of DVDs. I have also run the Diagnostic program and the Dell troubleshooter which didn't show a problem and didn't help. I'm pretty much a novice with this stuff, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,
Rick

Check to see if it's still under warranty. I had a DVD drive in a Dell 8300 and they sent me a brand new NEC burner that works great.

I got the win 10 update and thought I would try. Bad idea for my PC, not powerful enough. So back to win 7. But it looks like some programs have been disturbed by the change. What bothers me is ADE -adobe digital editions- which cannot download acsm books anymore. I get E_adept_document_open_error, and E_IO. Some link is obviously missing. I checked acsm and epub, they are rightfully associated with ADE. I'm afraid to do a system restore before win 10, as it wold delete almost everything here, probably using recovery.
The problem seems to affect all users of win 10. Maybe a change in the temp files, no idea really. Can you help me?
Thank you

This morning IE has stopped working for no apparent reason. I can go to my favorites and go on line but cannot go to my home page. I cannot go anywhere from a search engine because IE has stopped woorking. Is there a way to fix this. My other computer is fine so it is not a server problem.

If you're still using the same version that ships with Windows 7, updating it to the latest version may fix it:

Well, my moms hdd went to hell for whatever reason, so i figured that since i had 2 HDDs in my computer, that i would take the spare one i had (never use it) and let her use it. Well it wouldnt work in her computer, it kept going to a screen that said press F1 to boot and f2 for setup options or something like that. So i figured i would put it back in my computer, and now neither of my hdds work, not the primary or the spare i had. Does anyone know the problem? All i know is the one when its booted has that F1 to boot thing, and the primary hdd i had, when it tries to boot, it says disk read error or something along those lines. Should i just get a new HDD?

A:HDD stopped working, help please

Sounds like you didn't install your HDD properly. When you put it in your mother's computer, dud you set it as master? Also, you need to install Windows or clone her old HDD to yours (sometimes you can do this even if the old HDD doesn't boot.)

Ok, so I'm sure this problem has popped up more times than people can count. Anyhow, Team Fortress 2 always shows this message when I try to start it. It never even loads it. Just begins then stops. I've tried everything Steam support said to do. I've tried the security workaround. I've disabled UAC and DEP. I've moved the folder to 'Common' instead of username. I've deleted Steam and reinstalled everything. I've enabled msinfo32.exe. I've repaired WMI. I've done just about everything people have said, and still nothing. Are there any other fixes people have heard about? I just want to play Team Fortress 2 lol.

I get these little pop up messages from windows saying, " Wndows Live Messenger has stopped working", "itunes has stopped working", "datasafe online has stopped working",etc. I restored my computer to an earlier checkpoint, but it still does the same thing. I also have DEP turned on for essential Windows programs if this helps.

Welcome to Seven Forum, Kage.

What did you do in the last session before you shut down? Did you mess around with the Registry? Did you install some new Programs? Have you kept an image of your C Drive?

Additionally please fill up your computer's specs as best as you can and carry out a virus check if you are able to.

New behavior on new Vista HP 64bit installation. Was working fine 4 days ago; had been shut down until last evening. Have installed minimum additional apps, all reportedly 64bit compliant.
IE 8 message when starting IE - "Last browsing session closed unexpectedly, Restore previous session or open homepage?" Either choice results in "IE has stopped working, Windows checking for solution"... "A problem caused IE to close, Windows will close program and notify you if solution". IE closes, no solution found. Have tried disabling add-ons, have reset IE settings to default, have disabled McAfee internet security. Have run antivirus scans, malware scans (all clean), my System Restore points were (unknowingly) turned off so my most recent restore point is from last evening, AFTER the problem began. What next? I'm at the point where I COULD run clean install of Vista HP.

before you nuke this OS why not try a system file check. it verifies and reapir system files. you run it by start>search>type cmd> right click run as admin>type sfc /scannow

My computer was making incredibly loud noises. I have 2 desktops and a laptop. Both the laptop and one of the older desktops I used for typing/printing only started making noises. Since the laptop is new I fixed it immediately (bought the warranty and everything). Now the older PC, I tried fixing it myself. I cleaned the fan. And it actually started working again. But now, a week after the cleaning the fan doesn't work at all. The computer has been on for 3 days and it's still working. Just out of curiosity, how long can a computer last before it dies without a CPU fan?

I'm going to buy one today though. Is it enough if I just tell them the stuff that's written on the CPU fan (CPU COOLER - DC 12V / 0.09 A - PL 50S12M) or do I have to measure it? It's around 2.5" long I think. Maybe even less. I'd appreciate any help.

update: OK for no reason whatsoever my fan seemed to have started spinning now. The only difference I noticed is the room temperature. When it wasn't spinning the room was very cold (open window all night). Now it's warmer by at least 7C and it started working for no reason. Does the room temp have anything to do with it?

A:Fan stopped working

hi lost and welcome to Techspot

you obviously have an Intel because an AMD system would have shut down if the fan stopped spinning (due the the CPU overheating)

however, certain Intel systems (i'm not sure if some or all) will slow down to a crawl but will still remain on. If the fan stops spinning the HSF turns into a passive cooler, the CPU will downclock itself so that it will not overheat.

as far as what HSF you need to buy to replace it. if you're only going to replace the fan itself (which i dont recommend) then you can pretty much replace it with any 3wired 12v fan of the same size. if your going to replace thewhole HFS unit (which is what you should do) then you need to know the CPU and socket type so that it attaches correctly

I've tried a couple of things that were recommended through another site.

1) I turned "SAFE MODE" on and the cd-rom worked fine but when I got out of safe it wound not fire up.

2) I uninstalled the cd-rom and let the computer reinstall it but that did'nt work either. Please any help you could give me would be great. Thanks.

It seems I can no longer install anything new in my desktop's USB ports, though existing stuff continues to work. XP recognises "new hardware" when it's plugged in but the wizard won't install the driver (automatically, from CD or from the Internet) whereas my laptop is happy with the lot (memory stick, mobile phone and webcam).
The only thing I could think of was that I unplugged my (previously working) webcam to use with my laptop for a while. Being a real cheapie device I wondered if unplugging it might have upset XP. Well the desktop now thinks the webcam is new and won't install that either, but the laptop is OK about losing the webcam.
Interestingly my Mikomi 256MB flash drive still works but my new ByteStor 2GB flash drive won’t, even though they appear (from their shapes) to be from the same manufacturer.
Anyone any ideas on how I can fix this please?

I have run Scannow which found corrupt files and successfully repaired them. I have tried to access the log but "Access is Denied".

I am not confident that this will solve the problem. Is there anything else I can do?

For no apparant reason (I haven't made any changes to my system etc), my Pioneer DVD-115 DVD-ROM Drive is no longer working properly. My computer is about a year old running XP Professional.

Data CD's - Autoplay will not work, but the cd's contents can be examined in windows explorer

Music CD's - Recognized and autoplay with no problems

DVD's - Not recognized at all. The drive just keeps spinning without revving down and Windows doesn't act like there's even a CD in the drive. Trying to open the drive in windows explorer causes a lockup.

Trying to open the drive with no cd in it causes an error message to pop up that says "incorrect function"

I tried using system restore, but it didn't solve the problem.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks.

When I press the Finish button of the the Windows XP Pro (SP1a) Automatic System Recovery (ASR) Wizard to create a backup file along with the associated diskette, I get the error message:

The files for the recovery diskette could not be created.
The operation was aborted.

This is even before ASR goes through the usual steps of checking which volumes are mounted, creating the list of what's to be backed up, and doing the backup. It's only after the backup is completed that it would ask for the diskette to put the several files on there.

The diskette drive A: is working just fine. The Accessories > System Tools > Backup utility otherwise seems to be working just fine, for example, in creating a backup of the SystemState.

But five days ago I had no problem making an ASR backup set and associated diskette! So something has changed that caused this
different result.

I emphasize that this is with XP Pro, and not Home. And it worked before.

I've found nothing relevant in the Microsoft Knowledge Base -- just one article about the same error with ASR in but that's in XP Home, which doesn't actually support ASR.

I did find one thread in microsoft.public.windowsxp.security_admin about the same error with XP Pro, but the only suggestion there concerned moving the pagefile back to the system drive C:. My pagefile is already on C: and has always been there.

I can tell you this: I had installed Roxio Drag-to-Disk (formerly known as DirectCD) yesterday ... Read more

Hi,

There appears to be quite a few hits for this file as being associated with a malware infection. Java is often used as a vehicle for malware delivery, so I think its best to scan your system for malware.

Please perform an online scan using this link, and then post the results back here:

This way we can rule this out.
