Can't move the taskbar without hole at bottom of screen

Q: Can't move the taskbar without hole at bottom of screen

So I just went from Ubuntu back to Windows 7, and the thing I miss the most is the dock. So I got a dock emulator for windows and decided to move the taskbar to the top of the screen, sort of like Ubuntu. However my problem lies with the way applications maximize. When they do, they leave a gap at the bottom of the screen, where the taskbar was. Now I just want my applications to go full screen, all the way to the bottom. Does anyone know how to go about doing this?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,
I have my start menu and task bar setup at the top of my screen as opposed to the bottom. MS did not have enough intuition to realize the problems this can cause when windows decide to place themselves under the taskbar. Furthermore I have my taskbar filled with icons, so there is only a 3 pixel or so gap between the clock and voice icon that allows me to drop the taskbar elsewhere.

The idea I've thought of is having the bottom of the taskbar set as some sort of limit. Essentially I want to make it so I cannot physically drag a window of any sort above that point of the screen, no matter what. This way no windows can open or end up underneath the taskbar at any point.

Any solutions out there? Thanks!

A:How to make bottom of the taskbar the screen limit

You can select the "auto-hide the taskbar" option, that way the taskbar is only visible, either by hovering the mouse at the edge of the screen or by pressing WIN. This will keep it out of the way and still give you use of full screen.

Find this option by right clicking the taskbar and choosing properties.

! am running Windows XP Pro SP3.

A couple of days ago when I was working on a spreadsheet and downloading an upgrade I noticed that the Task Bar/Activities bar which usually sits at the bottom of the screen had taken itself up to the top of the screen. I swear I didn't tell it to do that or knowingly do anything to make it do that.

I have searched around the newbie level books I have on Windows XP, and can't work out a way to make it go down to the bottom again.

Can anyone please help?

Hi Everyone!

This morning the taskbar on my computer jumped up to the top of my screen. I read in xp help that I could click on an empty part of the taskbar and drag it to the desired location. This did not work.
Any other ways to restore it to the bottom of the screen?

Thanks!

A:Taskbar jumped to top of screen--how do I restore to bottom?

Hello Firetooth,If it will not drag by clicking and dragging the taskbar, try right clicking on it. There should be an option that says lock the taskbar. If this has a checkmark next to it, it is locked in place, click it to remove the lock, and then try dragging it. Hopefully this resolves the problem. Remember, you can also check it again when you get it at the bottom to lock it back in place. With regards,bwest0703

I am running Win7/Pro x64.

I recently managed to unwittingly move a large branch (multiple levels of branching and many files) into my "My Documents" folder. I would like to undo what I did, but I have no idea how I did it. My guess is that I made a massive misuse of drag-and-drop

Said another way, I had a directory (very large, multi-branched folder) called "MyImageFiles" at the same level on my data drive as "My Documents." Now it is buried one level down in "My Documents."

What is the simplest way to undo this?

Thanks

I'm running 8.1 on an HP desktop, with IE version 11.0.2.

Some time in the past week or so, the bar at the bottom of the page when I am in a browser session, launched from the desktop, no longer appears. It's the one that usually shows the Connection, Safe to Eject, my Norton status, Volume icons, date/time, etc. I use automatic Windows updates, so I'm kind of assuming it was something there that did it...but don't know for sure.

All I want to know is How Do I Get It Back? I especially need that volume control icon, so I can mute all the ads when I open a news video on Yahoo, Bing, or MSN.

This bar shows just fine when I'm looking at the Desktop screen, just not in the browsers.

Thanks for your assistance.

When I have the taskbar set to "small icons" mode, it becomes possible to pull the pointer off the bottom edge of the screen, so that none of the tabs or quick launch buttons are clickable. With small icons mode off, the pointer is constrained to the bottom edge.

This is a bit irritating, because the machine in question is a laptop, and it's a lot easier to just yank the pointer all the way down than it is to try to land inside the taskbar to click on a tab. Is there any way to get the constrained behavior without giving up screen real estate?

A:pointer falling off the bottom of the taskbar

I haven't changed the default for those icons and have the same action, also note it happens when moving to the right edge of the screen. The only time the pointer doesn't disappear is when moving to the top or left side. And if you look real closely the pointer still leaves a tiny bit visible on the bottom and right. I use a black pointer which doesn't always show on the edges but it has a white outline which helps.

I have recently upgraded to Firefox 23, but first saw this issue when I still had v22.

I prefer to have PDF files from a URL display in Firefox using its Acrobat plugin.

However, the very bottom of the displayed file, including the bottom end of the scroll bar, is hidden under the Windows taskbar.

The plugin does not allow for any type of controls to be optionally displayed that might provide clues to this issue, and changing FF's zoom setting does not remedy the hiding issue.

The only thing that does remedy it is changing one or more of FF's toolbar settings, but this has to be done every time a URL with a PDF file is opened!

Mozilla's site has yet to provide me with an answer... can you?

Bob

A:Firefox: bottom of PDF display hidden behind taskbar

Hi frable82, welcome to 7F!

I stopped using Adobe Reader a while back and switched to NitroReader so I couldn't replicate the problem you're having and I can't recall having your problem while I was using AdobeR.

I looked in about:config and couldn't find anything that may lead to a solution although there are settings for browser.taskbar, and pdfjs., but I would be afraid of suggesting anything without knowing what the settings do for fear of bricking your FF browser. I'll look a little harder.

Check in Tools\Options\Applications scroll down to where PDF's are listed and see if yours is set like mine, Preview in FireFox if it's anything different just click anywhere on the listing for PDF's and a drop-down box will open for you to make changes.
You should be able to back out and check the new setting without re-starting FF, if you don't see any changes then go and re-start and check again.

In the meantime you could try: Troubleshooting Firefox issues using Safe Mode, and if that seems to take too long to hunt down the problem you may want to try: Taskbar Auto-hide - Turn On or Off

Starting to convert from XP to 7 and want to keep as much of the XP style as possible. Already changed 7 to the classic format. If I minimize a Window, how can I get it to become a rectangular bar in the bottom task bar like in XP? I could have 4 or 5 of these bars down there and maximize them with one click in XP. Now I see in 7 that they are all in one single button on the bottom left so I have to click on the button, then click again on the Window I want. And I never know what is running unless I click that button. Starting to dislike 7. ARRGGH!

A:How can I minimize a Window to the bottom Taskbar separately?

That's the way it is in 7. If you had not tampered with the system, you would see all windows open by just hovering over the icon in the taskbar and you can open that window by clicking right there.

But you can get someting similar to XP if you make this setting.

Hi there
Funny issue here on a VM on a Linux (CENTOS 7) Host with build 14316.

On a Large (4K) monitor running in Full screen mode - after a while the Bottom taskbar randomly fails to re-appear. I need to sign out and then sign back in for the problem to go away (re-boot not required). I usually have taskbar set to Autohide.

This problem only occurs if I have the taskbar at the bottom of the screen -- doesn't occur if the taskbar is at the top/sides or if I'm not in Full screen mode.

I had this problem way back with a very early build -- it went away but has reared its ugly head again.

Could be a VMware problem (running Workstation version 12.1)

A colleague of mine running the same build of VMWARE workstation with the same Monitor but running it on a W7 HOST doesn't get the problem so it could be VMWARE.

I haven't updated the Linux HOS or VMware workstation for at least 3 previous builds of Insider.

I tried to attach a photo because I realize this sounds strange, but I can't figure out how to do that.

Would appreciate your help.

A:Remove strange yellow strip from center of bottom taskbar

Sorry - didn't realise the photo would display. So in my previous post you can see the yellow part. Baffling.

Had diffs yesterday with computer running at snail speed > did ad-aware/norton scans to clean up > now when I minimize any open window, the tab/s just disappear/s to the left of the lower taskbar so they can't be opened easily again. Must be an easy fix for this but after hours of research in MS Help + Google + your existing threads, haven't been able to source a solution.

It happened once before but I can't recall how I got it going properly again - that's what age does to the memory!! Now when I have a PC prob & manage to solve it, I note the solution for the future!!

Would greatly appreciate any suggestions to solve this irritating prob.

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

I received a new computer for Christmas. I don't know what I did, but the blue taskbar that "used to be" on the bottom moved to the right side of the screen with "Start" at the top and the time is on the right where it used to be, but it's kinda squished now.

I called a friend and she told me just to drag it to the bottom. Well, it won't drag. I was told to click to make sure Lock Taskbar was unchecked (it was) and a couple of other things, but it still won't go down to the bottom where it was.

The only thing dragging did was to move the Taskbar to the left side of the screen (even though I was dragging to the bottom), but the Start Button is still at the topmost right side of the screen. The clock area is still at the bottom right, where it was.

I don't know what else to do. It just will not move to the bottom where it was and my "helper" is very frustrated with me. I do exactly what she says, but it doesn't work.

What am I doing wrong?

A:Taskbar won't move

I am getting pop ups at the bottom, bottom right and left side of my screen.  They just seem to pop up randomly and frequently.  Highly annoying.

A:Pop ups at bottom and bottom right of screen

Most likely these popups are the result of recently installed updates,  free program(s) or add-on(s) in either browsers or programs such as Skype.

Using Firefox or Google Chrome browsers with Adblock Plus add-on may block the ads.

The two programs linked below have success in finding and removing adware. Allow them to remove whatever they find.
AdwCleaner Download
Junkware Removal Tool Download

You should check your add-ons/ extensions in your browser(s) for unknown ones or that you have not intentionally installed.
Disable or attempt to uninstall them.

If the above doesn't solve your problem, post a new topic in the Am I Infected.........forum along with the scan results of the two programs.

Hi all,

I just upgraded to Windows 8. On 7 I had the taskbar on the top (yes I use linux...) and a dock on the bottom, so I did this on Win8. However now the hand cursor doesn't appear when I move my mouse to the top of the screen - it works fine when I have the taskbar on any other side of the screen, just not at the top. This means it's much harder to close - does anyone know a way of getting the hand back? (This also means I can't have the desktop side by side with another app)

Thanks in advance
